We went here to eat on Sunday October 26, 2025 following a theater performance. It was late afternoon and there was some sort of football game on the TVs which was fine. We were seated directly below a plug-in air freshener, like a Glade Plug-In or a Febreeze Plug in, which was very high on the wall above us, almost to the ceiling. It was white and I don't know precisely what brand it was, but this was NOT FINE. NOT FINE AT ALL. The absolute tone-deafness required of any eating establishment to install a ceiling mounted fucking plug-in air freshener spraying scented chemicals all over the food and patrons boggles my mind. If you have to have a damn air freshener in your establishment, put it at ankle level so that the scented chemical particulate shit doesn't fall on the clientele and the fucking food, you asshats. Anyway. The food was fine when it was served, especially if you like eating your salad with your fingers because the server forgot to bring silverware. However, minutes after being served, when the plug-in air freshener sprayed chemicals all over, the food tasted like air freshener. I don't know about you but I don't want to eat air freshener chemicals and I don't enjoy food that TASTES like air freshener chemicals. (Smell is a huge component of taste.) We eventually got silverware delivered to our table and it arrived in time for me to be able to use it to debone my boneless bbq rib sandwich myself, so... winning? It still tasted like air freshener though. The drinks were legit strong pours and there was enough alcohol in them to defeat the air freshener stuff. They tasted like drinks and they were good. When I got home from DC (a two hour drive) I had to change clothes and throw everything I was wearing in the wash because it still reeked of air freshener chemicals two hours after exposure. Stan's ambiance is always busy, loud, bumping, and hectic. It is hard to hear others speak and even your own voice. However, you can take food out but only through online or in person. Phone calls do not go through. The waiting times for food is always quicker than they say. The food always hits the spot and is more hearty and filling. All craving hits can be found here especially the fried foods especially Chicken Wings with Mambo Sauce. Better yet, the prices are phenomenal plus big portions. It's a miracle!!! Stan's survived the pandemic! This is the first time I got to sit at the bar, so I didn't feel crowded and such. Then again, it was like an hour before closing time on a weekday, so it kinda makes sense, yeah? Anywho, I got my Ciroc drink and an order of the wings with that delicious mumbo sauce. It hits just like how it used to! The wings come out hot and the bartender checked on me quite often -- not that it was needed because it took me like an hour to finish that Ciroc drink! If you haven't experienced the phenomenon known as Stan's, yet, you're in for a treat! Again, be mindful of the peak times -- you might have to wait! I have heard many good things about Stan's from other foodies in the area so while out recently, I decided to check them out for a late-ish dinner. Right away, I was attracted to the aesthetic. It was dim and felt romantic (which was the vibe I wanted for the night), however, it was so small and crowded. We did have about a 15 minute wait for a table but had full access to the bar area until then. While waiting, I ordered a tequila sunrise which was given to me in two glasses to mix myself. The drink was also over $23. Honestly, I was ready to leave after hearing the price because...why does an average sized drink cost that much? Alas, I we stayed and we were soon seated. I've heard several times that they have the best wings in the area so of course I wanted to try them. I also ordered calamari and fries. The wings were a great size and had a nice crunch, however, they didn't really have flavor. They were certainly edible but I was expecting knockout flavor based on the reviews I've seen. The wings also come with mumbo sauce but I wasn't a fan. It didn't taste like authentic mumbo sauce. I enjoyed the calamari and fries. I left the dinner feeling full. As I mentioned earlier, the actual restaurant was dimly lit and perfect for date night but the restaurant was small and packed, literally. The tables were so close together. Luckily, we were seated by a great couple who helped us decide on what we would order. Overall, I did mostly enjoy my experience. It would've been nice to have more space between the tables so it didn't feel awkward having intimate conversation. I think everything was overpriced. Service was great also. I'm glad that I got to experience Stan's since I've heard so much about it. read more

Decent spot in DC that me and my friend were warned about due to very stiff drinks as they give you a glass of liquor with pop/juice on the side. So if I order a Makers & ginger, it comes with a tall glass of Makers Mark and a short glass of ginger ale. They claim to have the strongest drinks in DC. We have a place in Chicago like that called Ceres. You can tell this is a place where many regulars come as the bartenders tend to cater to them often even though you might be sitting there as a newbie waiting for service for awhile. We showed up around 9pm one night and for happy hour the next day. I ordered the Strip Steak Sandwich which was ok. It comes with provolone, onions and mushrooms on a hoagie roll. We were starving and ecstatic to find a restaurant open so late on a weeknight. Unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived when the Stan's 8 oz. Burger I ordered was brought to the table. Despite ordering it medium well, the patty was overcooked to the point of being burnt and nearly inedible. Had it not been so late, I would have sent it back. The cheddar cheese and potato bun stood no chance at adding anything to the sandwich. The burnt taste of the meat was too overpowering. The fries were decent -- cooked to a nice crisp and lightly seasoned. Unfortunately, they couldn't offset the poor experience with the burger. As one of the few places we could find open after 10 on a weeknight, I know beggars can't be choosers -- but not burning a burger seems like such a small ask. They're not kidding when they say in their website they don't water down their drinks. That Old Fashion was loaded! Had the fried wings whole and the app sampler. The wings are great with a great tasting rub on them and they're massively huge so you definitely won't go hungry at Stan's. They're potato skins we're one of the best I've had with nice thick bacon. Service was excellent and attentive and one of the waitresses was even dancing while walking back and forth since the music made for a great ambience. We came here off a recommendation. They said it was a "dive bar". I am not sure what dive bars are in other places but I wouldn't classify this place as a dive bar. When we arrived the place was jammed packed and seemed to be a huge long wait list. However the staff was on top of it and got our name down and got us in, in about 25 minutes. The wait was worth it. I've been trying to get to Stan's for years. My opportunity finally came on a Wednesday evening after attending an event around the corner. Walked down the stairs and was immediately welcomed by Matthew. We decided to sit at a high top near the bar. The bar was full and a few tables in the restaurant were taken. Great atmosphere! What really stood out was the service that Matthew provided. The best I've had in a minute. He was so attentive and provided great suggestions. It was like he was reading our mind with what was needed. We didn't have to ask or remind him about anything. My friend and I ordered drinks. Now I've heard about the drinks and the menu even says strongest drinks in DC but I didn't believe it. This is an accurate statement. Good, strong drinks. 1st Ethera was amazing. He made sure we were well taken care of from beginning to end. I would not come back here. Came here in a party of 5 for Friday night drinks/apps. We were able to get a table which was great. We ordered a variety of apps- calamari, the sampler, and fried shrimp. And also had several plates of the wings. The wings were great! I hate eating wings in general because I don't like to eat w my hands, and certainly not in public, but these were great wings. The rest of the food was pretty mediocre. Shrimp was ok, but the calamari and sampler plates were largely not touched. The drinks. I'm not a cocktail person so I went for basic white wine, but the pours for what my coworkers were having looked very generous. Fun fact- there's no drink menu (w prices). We had split the bill 3 ways (5 people, 1 of whom only had one drink and a half plate of wings). The bill was $145 each (that's $435 total). I hadn't looked at the itemized receipt and just put my card down. That was a mistake. Those drinks must have been $30 a piece. For this kind of money....just no. RE atmosphere: super loud and rowdy.
