I'm giving this location 4 stars for being super efficient. I called the night before around 10pm to see what the turn around time for lots pastries and two coffee travelers were. They told me about 30 minutes. So the next day I called early in the morning to place my order and told them I'll be picking it up in 30 minutes. They didn't hesitate and all they did was took my info and called it a day. I arrived at the time I stated and everything I ordered was ready to go. There was no line so that was a plus because all I had to do was pay and then grab all my stuff. In any case, they were nice enough to leave the items in their original packing to keep the pastries fresh. They also gave a lot of sugars (various types), stirrers, napkins and creamer. They really were nice and very efficient. Will definitely use them again if I ever need to place a semi large order. read more

It's ok. I've been here quite a lot since it's very close to UCSD. They seem to mess up drinks more than they get it right =\. They gladly remake it for you, however, but frankly, that seems like a waste of time to me. If I'm paying $4-$5 for a cup of coffee, it really shouldn't take so long to make it right. read more

Terrible Starbucks location! Horrible parking situation! Cramped, crowded seating inside! Seats & Tables outside that nearly get you run over by passing automobiles! Hidden locale that you need to prowl around La Jolla Village Square to find! So you ask why not give it a miserable 1 Star Yelp? No way, Jose. There are nice people that work behind the counter. Their BOLD coffee is BOLD-flavored! And it is a Starbucks after all-I am not going to cut off my caffeine nose to spite myself. Why is it that Starbucks property development people are so chintzy with location size at their La Jolla Starbucks? It's not like they CAN'T AFFORD the finest real estate? I know this is the fancy part of town but Starbucks is a mega-millions, if not billions corporation! C'mon people-get real. This is the closest Starbucks to UCSD and everyone knows that kind of UC mega-watt brain powerr demands QUALITY JAVA! I am very sensitive to my environment and when I go pay a couple of bucks for a coffee drink, I do not want to feel squished into a Wi-Fi area or have some rich senior almost run me over in the parking lot that passes VERY CLOSE BY the outdoor seating area! If the Sunglasses place next door to this Starbucks ever folds up shop-Starbucks should immediately grab that spot and expand into it so these wealthy, refined La Jolla patrons can have a quality coffee experience that they not only deserve but are due by birthright! read more

I used to come here a lot until I had a bad experience with one of the employees here, so now I make the extra drive to go to Peet's Coffee instead. Or if I'm really desperate, I'll go to the Starbucks in the Ralph's right next door so I don't have to deal with it. This place gets pretty busy and because of that, most of the employees sometimes have a hard time juggling orders. I remember one time I specifically asked for a cookie not warmed up. Usually when you do that, you get your pastry right away. The girl who took my order heated it up anyway, even when I told her not to do it (and used a BROWN bag...anything that is heated is in a WHITE bag). Umm, ok. I don't like my pastries heated up at Starbucks because I like to save my food for later and I know heating it in your micro-oven would harden my pastry when I get around to eating it. I didn't appreciate that and I got very snippy with the barista who gave me my drink and food. It wasn't her fault, but I was super irritated. She apologized and gave me another cookie, which I appreciate but wow, that really put a kink in my morning. By the way, the girl who took my order probably didn't like that I told her I didn't want my cookie heated because she gave me this look that she thought I was a snob with her. You asked me if I would like my cookie heated and I said no. What is so rude about that? Otherwise, I like the Filipino guy who works at the cashiers (he's always happy and smiling considering the bs he has to put up with) and the female barista with short hair whom I gave a hard time with for my hot cookie. Not my favorite Starbucks location! Just ok! The staff here aren't as friendly as the other locations (I am sure it's due to the fact that they are always swamped) there's always a wait at this location. The drinks are not the best and the baristas never seem to smile or have convo like the other locations do! I do realize though if you are not a regular here, you don't get the best service but I've notice they do seem to treat their 'regular' a little better. If it was up to me, I'd chose a different location but proximity is what keeps me coming to this location! Try the Starbucks in Ralph's! They are much friendlier there and no lines! read more

Starbucks inside of Ralph's Wandered into Ralph's today, and finally figured out what was gonna replace the old Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf joint that was there...Never mind that there is a Starbucks less than 25 yards away, just a dog leg left and your at Starbucks. To be honest, not sure how the CB&TL stayed in business for so long. There is no sign as to when they will open, but the espresso machine is in and they have a few blenders and coffee pots. It probably won't be long til the world has another Starbucks...in case you finish your drink on your walk in from the Starbucks outside the door. For now, I will rate this Starbucks 3 stars. I went in here with my friends after I saw the sign advertising their new evolution smoothies. Since I just have this unexplainable proclivity to green drinks, I had try out the greens, banana, and pineapple smoothie. I sorta got what I expected: a bittery taste from the greens, and smooth mellow taste from banana, but disappointingly no pineapple at all. It was more refreshing than creamy- but would I get it again? No, not really- i will still only go to Starbucks for their milk and cream based products. My friend on the other hand got a secret menu item: captain crunch frappuccino. And it was actually REALLY good! There was a slight almond-nutty taste that made it taste like the cereal- and it had a really appealing look to it too- cookies and cream style frappe with whip cream and caramel at the top. Service was nice- albeit quiet, I didn't hear them call my drink from the table I was sitting at. Location is convienant for UCSD students and grocery shoppers. I know I'll be coming back! read more

Have been here a few times in the am (before 9am) to grab a frap and the wait always seems just a tad too long. Baristas not so friendly but the cashiers always are. Lots of indoor/outdoor seating. I would imagine it would be packed in the pm with the college crowd. Parking is a challenge in peak times, but never had a problem at 9am. Dont like how you order in the middle of the counter, get drinks on the right of the counter and food on the left. If you order both, what are you to do? Stand in the middle and crane your neck back and forth to see who wins the race...barista or food-microwaver? If Coffee Bean had better blended drinks I would go there instead. read more

It's convenient if you need a caffeine wake-up on your way to school while riding the 201/202 arriba/Nobel shuttle, or need that extra surge o' energy to carry your groceries. Who knows when you'll need that iced coffee? I've had no problems with this Starbucks except that when it comes to doing hw, or projects, this isn't the ideal place. Its inside seating holds only a few people, and when the lines get long (on a hot day), it's definitely cramped. Not many people leave their seats once they sit either. Try peet's for the study space! For drinks though, since I have my gold card, I'm loyal to Starbucks. As long as the free rewards exist :) read more

Awesome service! The staff here are one of the nicest at any Starbucks I have visited. This Starbucks is located between Ralph's and Trader Joes and is usually VERY packed especially at peak hours in the morning. Unless you get lucky or come super early or at weird times, it is very difficult to find seating. But if you get lucky, it's a great place to get work done! I also love this Starbucks particularly because there are outlets everywhere and are much easier to find rather than having to scramble to look for them at other places. Although, a downside to getting here is that parking is a drag in the plaza. read more

This may be the least busy Starbucks I've seen in the morning. It's close to home, so it's convenient to pick up my coffee from there every morning before work. The parking isn't too bad either. I usually find parking in the Trader Joe's parking lot. I make my mobile order 5 mins before picking it up and it is ALWAYS ready when I come in. They, for the most part, make my drink how I want it. There was one time where I ordered a coffee with milk and hazelnut pumps but received a black coffee instead. Nobody is perfect. The staff is always nice and welcoming. This Starbucks is extremely loud and difficult to find a spot to sit in. For some reason this Starbucks in particular is one that a lot of people loiter at, so if you're trying to find a cafe to study in, it probably won't be this one. The service is friendly, however, like at most Starbucks cafes. I must say that I feel like they could use more workers during rush hours because, like I said, they are extremely busy. This Starbucks is pretty convenient to go to, but you could probably go to the one in Ralph's and get quicker drinks. Wow, I can understand why this starbucks has 3 stars average for this starbucks. In general, my hands have been burned way too many times by by the way. When I ask for hot coffee or hot water saying "please leave room", they never do it. Suggestion: Why don't you write down "leave room" while you're writing the name if it's so easily forgotten? "LR" if you're lazy? Just about 30 minutes ago, I purchased a chocolate croissant and a hot coffee medium roast. I also asked for a venti ice water to reduce the coffee breath afterwards. The barista gave me attitude, a look like I was crazy and only gave me a TALL iced water. First of all, I understand that the iced water is FREE and if I weren't a customer then I wouldn't see a problem with this. Heck, I would understand if she didn't give me a FREE ice water at all. However, I am a customer who also ordered not 1 but 2 other items. And you're cheaping out on water? Open bright and early. I must say for frequenting this neighborhood working close by and all I've never been to this location. Same as any other Starbucks though. Monday's and Friday's are the busiest, of course, but personally the wait is no more than 5 minutes. I like this Starbucks at 8657 Villa La Jolla Drive, until university students overtake it. Some students hoard tables, play videos and music with the sound on. It would be great if the Starbucks staff here would discourage these types of behavior. Common courtesies aren't common at this location. People, please use your headphones, not your speakers. If you want to sit and peacefully enjoy a beverage from late September through mid June, go somewhere else! This location doesn't have enough inside seating. I explained to him that it's made with the green tea powder and shaken with soy milk. This store sucks. Everytime I have gone, they have messed up my drink. 2 times, I had to remind them how to make a drink. The baristas need to be retrained. Not only do they not know how to make the drinks, but they always look so unhappy. I can just feel the mood drain me, because they are so miserable looking. An example of this is when I went to get my drink, and it was an iced one. I can tell that the barista jipped me of my soy, and I asked her if I can get more soy, and she obviously was displeased and rolled her eyes at me. Great customer service...yeah?? The parking lot around here is a zoo, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of the Starbucks. Being near a college campus, it can get pretty busy in here, but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes- the workers here are amazing! There was a mix up with a drink in front of me and the barista apologized profusely and insisted on giving me a free drink on my next visit to make up for the extra wait.
