With a limited number of seats inside but very spacious, all the protein packs, drinks, and cheese are behind the glass, and the staff has to get them for you. Must be a reason they have it set up that way. That's the first Starbucks I've noticed it set up that way, and they also have Limited items out in the open for you to purchase, like cups and Starbucks items. It was busy but not bad. I've never written a review but the service here was so bad it prompted me to. I went in for my free birthday drink and explained to the employee I couldn't see the coupon. I met the qualifications to receive it, but they didn't even attempt to guide me and just said no. Ive read online that when this happens the employee can type in a code but they made no attempt to even help my problem. I was making another purchaser of a mug while asking and when they said no to my birthday drink I didn't push, just accepted it and instead asked if I can at least scan to get rewards for the purchase. The employee also said no and that it only applies to drinks but that's simply not true. Also, those rewards might have prompted my app to give me the code. I don't believe I was being rude or pushy in anyway and was just trying to ask a genuine question, I treated them with nothing but respect so I don't know why they were being so troublesome and straight up lying to my face. This is the first Starbucks that opened in Portland. It may be the last to close, as Starbucks has been reducing their number of locations. Striking picketers in front aren't helping business either. There's a coffee stand at the Nordstrom across the street, Capital One Cafe is diagonally across the street, Java Man coffee is 3 blocks up at Broadway & Washington St. as well as St. Honore Bakery which has coffee. Elephants Deli and Case Study Coffee are also within walking distance. 20 years ago when there were Starbucks across the street from each other, I thought Portland could support infinite coffee shops. Despite the decline of Starbucks, this concept has proven to be true, with 7 places to buy coffee within walking distance despite the high percentage of empty businesses downtown. Starbucks has a new process for mobile orders, they are now considered low priority. Baristas have been directed to grab your coffee for you immediately if you order drip coffee in person. Heating stuff up takes some time but you can bypass that by purchasing a bistro box, which doesn't need any preparation. I like the eggs & cheddar box because it's big enought for a lunch and only has 450 milligrams of sodium. (Sodium should be limited to 1500 milligrams per day if you have high blood pressure.) A lot of restaurant and coffee shop lunches have close to or more than the full daily allotment. This location has seating for about 30 people and uses the Pioneer Square security guard to keep troublemakers out, although you still might see a homeless person wander in, fish a cup out of the trash and fill it with coffee creamer. There are also people who give money to nearby panhandlers, which enables them to come into the store and possibly harass customers. Last month a customer told me their mobile phone was stolen while it was charging. Do not leave your laptop on a table and go to the restroom, or it may disappear. read more

We stopped in for a quick evening pick me up. I originally ordered the summer boba drink with extra boba. When I got the drink I then learned that they were out of the large boba straws which to me the whole purpose of the drink is enjoying the boba. The employee offered to make me a different drink which I took her up on as sipping boba through a small straw only left you with little pieces of boba skin I would recommend ordering ahead on the app as getting the drink out took a little longer with only two employees working. You know me, I am no Starbucks fan. I do not like the taste of coffee, let alone the smell. But when out with friends you go with the flow and go where they go. That's how I ended up here at a Starbucks. We had been walking around a bit after a long week of training and working. A bit of retail therapy was well deserved and with bags in hand from other places my friend wanted to stop in here to see the regional mug that Starbucks had made for the Portland area. I had no idea they did this and I had no idea that some Starbucks locations are more retail than coffee. This location is a bit small, but works for the space. It is basically an anchor for the square and people seem to love to stop here. As soon as you walk in you are met with the tables that have the mugs. Don't ask me too much about them, but there they were. I kind of milled about while my friend looked them over. I noticed that the space we were in was way too small to house everything a Starbucks should carry. Then it dawned on me that a majority of their stock is kept downstairs. They did have a few food items in here, but nothing that looked appetizing to me. Of course the flow in here was a majority of coffee drinkers. Yes, I am aware that they serve tea, but it's not always the best tea, unsweetened is not the way to go and have me add in the sugar afterwards. There are multiple entrances and I suggest scoping it out to see which door would be easiest to use. There are a lot of people outside around the doors asking for spare change and they can get a bit in your face. read more

Came here to look at pastries and not buy anything, but the fox cake pop was just too cute! It looked exactly like the fox emoji! The cake pop itself was pretty good. Really soft and sweet. I hadn't had any sugary foods in a while, and could definitely taste it here. The actual shell of the cake pop was nice too; not too thick like some others. Really good ratio overall. I came to Starbucks on my mobility scooter with my laptop to get some work done. First it was hard to find the accessible door because it wasn't obvious. It's next to the ATM and I wouldn't have found it had someone not come out to use the ATM. Once inside I asked if there were any outlets to plug in my scooter as it was beeping because it's low on power. I was advised that there were no outlets, nor was there any seating sorry we can't help you. What a disgrace. The feel I got here was buy and get out. It wasn't inviting nor accommodating for the less abled. It wasn't even clean. And the rest of the bldg is surrounded by stairs. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The service wasn't even pleasant. So I didn't buy anything. I'm just gobsmacked that a company built on being able to connect on the wifi and plug in whilst having coffee and relax is no more. Im now left wondering, is it like this at every Starbucks? If so I will no longer go. I frequented this Starbucks last week on a week long work trip into PDX. The coffee is kind of what you'd expect at a Starbucks. Either you like it or you don't. I'm writing this review though, normally I wouldn't review a Starbucks, because of the staff. Everyone I encountered, and especially Rachel, who actually took the time to get to know me on my 2nd or 3rd morning blew me away. On my last day, Rachel actually remembered it was my last day, gave me a fond farewell and wished me safe travels. Who does this anymore? I was really impressed and that is the experience Howard Schultz wanted customers to have when they visited a Starbucks. That was his vision exactly. I try to avoid this Starbucks as much as possible. Sometimes when I'm waiting for the MAX and feel really thirsty I will go in. But most times I try to go somewhere else for my coffee or cold drinks. ANYWHERE ELSE. This location is always fairly busy due to the fact that it's sitting on the edge of Pioneer Square and the MAX stops close by. People descend upon this place like it's the only game in town. Tourists, locals and a variety of sketchy types flock here all day long. Dealing with this constant onslaught of people could be why the employee turnover seems high. My infrequent visits here always find me dealing with different employees. Sometimes the service is pleasant and sometimes it's not. Sometimes my drink is made right and sometimes it tastes all wrong. So you never know going in how a visit will turn out. There is limited seating inside. But there is a large outdoor patio overlooking Pioneer Square that is a great place for people watching while enjoying your Starbucks. read more

For some reason it took an unusual amount of time for them to prepare a mocha coffee. WiFi was very slow to connect to, even though there were only about 10 people. This is one of my favorite starbucks in the Portland area. I was surprised they have such little ratings. They are in the middle of the city, during Christmas they are right outside the big Christmas tree. The store itself is built with a lot of windows so you get a great view. The order came fast even though it was packed and they were super friendly. The public bathroom is in the other building downstairs. Coffee was as good as ever. read more

I haven't written an update in nearly six years. That mind of surprises me. I have frequented this location both because I lived downtown and because I use TriMet a lot - it's an easy thing to hop off the train and get coffee and a snack and not miss a beat or my train. My main issue with this outlet is their seating. They had a marble counter on metal legs for a table that started to sway back and forth because the structure was not adequate due to the heavy marble tabletop. It swayed so much that eventually it was going to hurt somebody badly by toppling over. I alerted the always-pleasant baristas and even sent a formal complaint to their national headquarters. Nothing ever changed (and often it was the only place to sit in this very busy venue). I was eventually so disturbed by it I just stopped going here even for coffee to go. I think this went on for close to 2.5 years. Yesterday, on the way to work, I had a bit of a wait between trains, so decided to at least peek in to see how things looked since the completion of the remodel of Pioneer Courthouse Square. I was very pleased that my offending table had been removed and a stylish renovation had been completed. Well done! I can't say the same for my almond milk/caramel macchiato. It was very tasty at first try, but had an odd musty aftertaste. My old favorite orange-cranberry scone won the day. I think I'm going to stick with my usual Americanio in the future. 1 star off for FINALLY getting rid of that damned hazardous marble table after repeated warnings for 2 or more years and for the odd-tasting drink. 3 stars for great service and the scone. The location is great. I went during covid-19 and was impressed by all the employees professionalism during this hard time. They made sure everyone was safe, they were kind and had to put up with some hard customers trying to "hang out" in the store and not listening to new policies. I needed caffeine. Stopped by this location since it was on the way back to our hotel. The roommate and I walked in on Monday, October 10th around 10:15am. I think I got a quad (or maybe triple?) tall nonfat cappuccino, extra dry. I believe I had enough stars from my gold card to make this free, but I can't really recall. (Sunday was a long, busy day, so I was very tired come Monday morning.) Service was fast and efficient. I was in and out quickly. This Starbucks is located on Pioneer Courthouse Square, so it's a nice location. I can see how a person would enjoy a coffee while taking in the scenery. I ran in to the Starbucks while I awaited my max, I figured I'd grab the coffee here instead of the target one. Where I had my first ever toasted white mocha and it was absolutely delicious. I said why not. I ordered and specified my drink, that I didn't want it with the dark chocolate sprinkles. When I got my drink and had to ask for the sprinkles. I left the store to run into the max, my drink was nothing to what I expected. It tasted like hot soy milk, with dark chocolate bits. which is nothing to what I ordered, on top of that I found this in my drink, now what? Do I finish my coffeeless $6 watered down soy milk. Did you even clean the cup when my drink was made? I'll stick to the target Starbucks, they actually take the effort to give you clean, flavorful drinks. read more

Like most of the reviews I scanned said, all Starbucks menus are pretty much the same. Same drinks, same food, same prices, pretty much. This one stands out for its location. It is in Pioneer Square and has inside seating and an outside patio with views of the square. I identify this spot as where you meet people, dates, friends I don't know how many people have told me to meet them here. It is good for that. It is convenient to all of downtown. Service is always good and I like the architecture. Trivia! When this place opened in 1989 it was the first Starbucks in Oregon and the 40th branch for Starbucks anywhere. There are more then that in just the Portland metro area today (I saw a list that said 55 though I don't know how old that list is it didn't seem to list many of the ones inside of other stores. read more

Great location right next to the Courthouse Square, and a great place to kick back, eat your lunch and people watch. This location is so popular, the entire neighborhood seems to get their Mermaid fix here too. I walked in at 2:00 and the line was literally outside the door. I decided to mobile order my drink, and walked to my table. After taking a few pictures of the surrounding area and my food, I popped back inside just to hear my drink being called. The staff were too busy to answer any questions, so I didn't bother to ask if they sold the Portland gift card here. Darn it, I should have. I've walked by or MAX'ed by this location everyday for over a year and I have never been in. Today I decided to shake things up and visit this location. At 8:15 am the barrristas were bright eyed and bushy tailed. Very friendly and really made the experience. Wish I remember my cashiers name.... My liquid fuel came to me pretty quick for the number of people that were in front of me. Having stayed up until 2am working on Afghanistan Fiscal Feasibility Analysis(aka intense) I really NEEDED my espresso. My drink was made perfectly. Heaven in a clear plastic cup. I couldn't give it five stars because of the construction going on right outside making it not the perfect zen moment, but pretty darn close. read more

I'm usually okay with spending money at a Starbucks, especially when meeting up with my girlfriend. Unfortunately, I have big issues when the staff is indifferent to people shooting up heroin in the bathroom. Guy spends 5-10 minutes in the bathroom (keep in mind the bathroom has a key code to keep unwanted people from using it). He leaves drug paraphernalia in the sink. This guy obviously looked like a drug user from the soars on his face, and ragged clothes. I bring it up to a female server, and she just replies that they can't help what people do in there. Wait, what? Why do you have a code on the door? Don't you think it's odd when someone comes in, doesn't buy anything, and uses your bathroom for more than 5 minutes? If you want to find the easiest place to shoot up drugs where the people don't care then feel free to come here, and ask for the code. You'll be welcomed with open arms. If you want to enjoy your coffee where the drug tolerance is more strict then I'd suggest finding a different place. Needless to say I'll never give another dime to any establishment that accepts drug use. read more

This Starbucks at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland serves coconut milk, has unique antique decor lighting, fireplace, indoor/outdoor design and transportation access with Pioneer Square location is ideal. Starbucks has a very limited menu and steps it up here. Perhaps maybe because it's Portland with AMAZING coffee shops that raise the bar and clearly surpass Seattle coffee for quality, brewing, taste and presentation. *This Starbucks served coconut milk! Typically you have no milk options at Starbucks. it's either milk or soy milk. Imagine my surprise when confirmed they have coconut milk! *Taste was good, not burnt tasting. I don't think the beans are different than other locations but it's good. *Downfall is their long very slow lines, but what else is new. At least our order was accurate. *This location had very nice vintage lights to fit its Pioneer Square ideal downtown location. *The overall design layout of this Starbucks is very cool. It brings the outside beauty inside. Very tastefully designed. They even have a FIREPLACE!! Starbucks actually took some effort is aesthetics at this location *Ample room inside to sit as well as the entire Pioneer Square to relax and enjoy the coffee. *MAX Public transportation right there too! read more

Sure it is a Starbucks like any other but it is gorgeous. The design of the building is exceptional. Definitely not your typical Starbucks in that regard. The coffee is the same as other locations. One employee spent a few minutes understanding my coffee preferences before he introduced me to the espresso Doppio. I was pleasantly surprised by their customer service and friendliness. RUN and try the sous vide Bacon Gruyère egg Bites!!! I snarfed it inside so quickly once I took my first bite that they didn't make it onto my pic--sorry! Swear to g+d, though, they are superdelicious and definitely worth the price. Before I didn't want to spend that kind of money on them, but now I am converted because not only are they smooth and perfectly balanced, the bacon is nice and Not Too Greasy, plus it was sliced thinly which I appreciate in such a delicate balance with egg and cheese.
