I come to this Starbucks several times a week, and it's honestly one of the most consistently pleasant locations I've been to. The team here is always friendly--like genuinely friendly. They acknowledge you, respond when you say good morning, and you can tell there's real effort on both sides to keep things kind and human. It makes a difference. Kindness goes a long way, and I appreciate theirs just as much as they seem to appreciate mine. On the rare occasions my drink isn't quite right (usually because I have a weird dairy preference--no milk but yes to whipped cream), they fix it immediately without any hesitation. No attitude, no questioning, no making it awkward. They just remake it with a smile, and you can tell they're not bothered at all. That kind of easy, no-drama service is rare and worth calling out. I also order ahead on the app pretty often, and the timing is almost always spot on. When it says it'll be ready, it actually is--which is huge when you're on the go. Doesn't wash his hands before touching the register or before grabbing a cup to fill with coffee. Gross! (And illegal). I walked into the Starbucks on De Soto and Ventura today and no one was in front of me so I went straight to the counter. A female team member refilling items saw me and continued working. She didn't smile at me or greet me. As the minutes ticked by this same team member continued to glance over at me, but never once acknowledged me or that I was waiting. She never informed another team member that I was waiting. Finally after 5 minutes of waiting the team member named Ashley came up to the register. She didn't greet me either or say Thank you for waiting. She immediately said What can I get for you. So I ordered my drink. When Ashley handed me my drink it didn't have the whip cream which I asked for so I told her. She seemed irritated that she had to put the whip cream. I then asked Ashley for the name of the team member who had ignored me. I was asked why with trepidation. I said I want to write a review based on my poor service and I want to include her name, she's not wearing a name tag. Ashley said she couldn't give me her name. Ashley then proceeded to get the manager, not what I wanted. Justine, the manager, interrupted her lunch to come talk to me. Ashley gave her a quick run down. After that Justine turned to me and just stared. She didn't smile, she didn't introduce herself, she didn't ask me what happened, just stared. It made me quite uncomfortable. So I explained what happened. Justine the manager did not apologize for what happened. She just stated that she couldn't give me the team members name. So I can only assume Justine, as the manager, has no interest in coaching her team members as to the proper customer service etiquette. It appears Justine needs coaching as to proper management etiquette as well. She should've introduced herself, with a smile and asked how she could help me. I already wasn't a fan of this location, but it's convenient when I go to the bank. I always order here, knowing that I will walk out unhappy with some issues with my drink, but I do so anyway, having some hopes and thinking this time it'd be different. But never again. Every time I order pick-up from this location, it's a problem. And usually, it's the weekend mornings. Their recipe is not consistent, and they mess up the size. I always order Venti because with this location, you get tall when you order Grande, and you get Grande when you order Venti. If you order no ice with tall size, you get half a drink of the tall size. Because YOU choose to have it with no ice, they use the same recipe for tall-size beverages with ice and take the ice away. Therefore, you have to take the risk of getting a smaller drink when you pay the same price. This wasn't my problem this time, though the lady before me had an issue when I picked up my order. I ordered two iced, non-dairy salted caramel cookie matcha drinks, one with grande and one with venti. They messed up the size; I told the barista my order was messed up. He said I could keep the drinks(both 2grandes he made) and he would re-make it again(venti), which I thought was very thoughtful. Then he disappeared, and another female barista re-made it with some attitude, snatched the drink the guy told me to keep, and gave me the new drink that was my initial order, but the drink wasn't even full. The foam was barely on top; it was just milk foam. I didn't want to ruin my Sunday morning like that, so I was whatever about it. Then, I got really upset after I tried my drink. My boyfriend got the same drink in Grande, and I got Venti, but we had two completely different drinks to the point where if I drank my drink with my eyes closed, I could hardly tell if it was a matcha drink or just oat milk with a splash of matcha. I didn't understand because the store wasn't even that busy; there was no line, and the staff were talking to each other. Most of the reason I go to Starbucks is because the drinks taste consistent, and so does their service. I couldn't find any of the merits of coming to this location. I am legally blind and needed a place to hangout while our house was being shown. So I thought, there is a brand new Starbucks that just open on West Oxnard, East of Canoga Ave and what a perfect opportunity in giving them a try. I am glad I did!! Clean and a real chill place to hangout, ordered a coffee with addshot and chocolate as well as their their version of an egg mcmuffin with sausage. To my surprise it had real cheddar cheese as well as the egg and sausage patty and with a little Saracha Sauce (my personal preference) was served hot an flavorful. Now for what I feel is the most important part of my visit. I am legally blind like I had mentioned, which means I still have some vision but is very limited and very poor quality. Without missing a beat, Michelle offered to take my debit card and did all the procedures that go along with paying for my order. Her foresight did not stop with just assisting me with my payment. In addition This act of kindness included her bringing my order to my table. Very often people are taken back in addressing my needs, finding it difficult in being able with to anticipate what might be a complicated situation for someone who is visually impaired. I let the barista know about my past experiences after receiving a third watered down drink and she said because it was "light ice" she had to add water to fill the line. It is located right on Topanga Canyon Boulevard so it is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking not only in their lot but on the street. In terms of the space, it is very well-designed. They have a nice interior area where you can sit back and enjoy your latte as well as they have a very large patio space in the front and in the back. Thus, on those warm days it is a very inviting place to sit out and enjoy your drink or snack. The staff here is always nice and they do their job as well as can be expected. This is the Starbucks just off of Topanga Canyon & Dumetz. They are open until 9pm and I find myself stopping there frequently when i am driving by that neighborhood. The staff is really nice and they really keep the drinks moving. I rarely have to wait for my drink...yes, they move fast and greet customers with a smile. I like it here, but rarely ever sit here and eat-I am always a order ahead or stop and grab & GO! Even though I am not staying and hanging outside on the lovely patio just outside the front door, someday maybe I will. It is a nice spot and most people outside have dogs or are friendly and chat with you as you walk by. All in all...a really nice Starbucks and they always make my drinks perfectly. I came to Yelp because I called to ask for a refund on a mobile order (I ordered a trenta and they gave me a tall, I had to go to work and didn't have time to wait for a new drink). I don't usually call and ask for refunds but like the error was so blatant (got a tall when I ordered a trenta, was on the way to work, and couldn't wait for another drink to be made) and it was around $10. Please tell me why the barista that answered informed me that I couldn't speak to a manager, that he would be the one to "make it right" if I came back in person tomorrow. I'm sorry- what??? This is also not the first case of errors from this store. I've been concerned about how baristas are only attentive to regulars, locals, and attractive customers. For the last week and a half, I've had to place my order 20-30 min ahead of time (this is also after the morning rush as I have a later start time than traditional working hours). Most of those times, I'm STILL waiting for my drink 20-30 min later. I only asked a barista one time about the wait on my drink after waiting for 25 min and he rolled his eyes at me. Throughout the week, I saw others who came in after me getting their orders (even still after 20-30 min). It's just the oddest branch ever. I really wanted it to be my regular everyday place, but the entire call with the barista was just so weird. I think I'll stick with Fallbrook and Shoup. They are so friendly, remember names, and are always super pleasant to chat with (they also have my drink on time so I get the chance to actually interact!!) Anyways. This is my local Starbucks since they opened. The staff and management has been through a few cycles. My observations are when the onsite management is good, the staff is good. When they bring in management that really should not be in management, everything goes to shit - even the good baristas are constrained when when a bad manager is running things.
