We were looking for something quick and easy for dinner. Stopped here cause you can't go wrong with a diner. Oh yes you can! I had the pork and sauerkraut which had absolutely no flavor. My friend had the captains broiler seafood platter. The haddock was tasteless the shrimp were watery and the crab cake was bad (as in rotten crab) scallops ok. Told the waitress crab was bad and we got 4 shrimp to replace it doesn't seem quite what was needed. Was asked at register if things were ok I said just ok only got an oh there. When you are severed something so bad you should at least be able to talk to management. I will NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. read more

We took our daughter there for her birthday. We ordered a chicken quesadilla, T-bone steak they were both very good. I on the other hand ordered liver and onions. I asked the waitress to please have the cook make it medium. I got my meal my liver was covered with gravy I went to cut it. It was so well done I couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. I took the knife and pushed off the gravy everyone at the table looked in shock. It honestly looked like beef jerky. Our waitress was busy so I decided to eat the sides. By the time our waitress came back to our table everyone was finished eating. As she was picking up the empty plates she got to mine. I showed her my liver she apologized and asked if I would like them to make another for me. We had no time to wait because we had another place to be in less then 30 minutes. She did not offer to take it off our tab. I didn't want to make a scene so my husband paid And we left. I've been there for breakfast several times it was always very good. Went here Saturday morning with my brother. Had been before and will go back. Place was packed. We waited 15 minutes in a packed waiting area. Got seated. We needed a place to bring some hungry soccer players between games for a tournament. This place fit the bill; so much so we came back a second day. My hubby & I went out Sunday for breakfast. We wanted to try the Starlight Diner but, the place was packed. We came back the next day & there was still a pretty good crowd. I am so glad that we came back! My husband ordered two eggs with hashbrowns, corned beef hash & a slice of ham. It was a lot of food! I had the Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries. My waffle was crisp on the outside & light & fluffy on the inside. Our food came in about 5 minutes, I kid you not. It was hot, it was good & there was plenty of it. My coffee cup was never empty.Wonderful service all around. Best of all, our breakfast only cost us $10! I do not think you can even get breakfast at McDonald's for that. Our first visit to the Starlight now that we have family living nearby. Late on a Sunday afternoon, trying to find a place for an early dinner before the long ride back home, we decided on diner food at the Starlight. We ordered two senior specials: Grilled marinated chicken and the turkey platter. We were served two hot, large, selections with a small salad and two veg. included with each dish. This was a lot of food for a very reasonable price. Good basic fare at a decent price, not a bad deal at all. Beats a chain restaurant anytime. read more

This was our first visit to the Starlight. Stopped for breakfast - but, it was actually lunch time by the time we made it there. But, we still opted for breakfast - which is served all day (always a plus for us). Service was fast and very good. Our coffee cup was never empty. The server was very attentive & friendly. Food was pretty good. It wasn't overly creative...but, a good basic breakfast - hot, food was as we ordered, and tasty. We both got the same breakfast with slightly different components. The Starlight Special include pancakes, eggs, meat, and home fries. We were able to choose blueberry pancakes and added a side of sausage gravy (it was tasty...not as good as my aunt from OK used to make - but, not bad). Overall - a nice place, good service, prices were fairly reasonable and food was good. Would definitely stop back again and try other menu items. read more

Really displeased with the Customer Service, quality and value of the food, and the general attitude of this diner. After several visits, I figured it was time to post a review, as each visit was a confirmation of the initial experience. And not that the patrons are a reflection of the diner management or even that the management has any influence on the patrons and their behavior, but for my interracial family, we have been greeted repeatedly with rude stares, nasty looks, and turned up noses. To the extent that our son has asked, "why does everyone have a mean look on their face?" and "why do people turn their heads and look away, when I catch them staring at me, and I give them a smile?" Hmm. I wonder. Perhaps the patronage is more indicative of the population in the area, than the restaurant, but it's awful chilly in there, no matter what the temps are outside, if you catch my drift! Though the decor is charming, and the building airy and open - with a big plus for ambiance and environment of the physical structure of the building: we were disappointed with the prices, portion sizes, and the taste of the food, from breakfast to lunch/dinner fare. Perkins is right around the corner, and while no diner, we normally get decent food, a decent quantity of it, for a decent price. Just saying. Stopped in for breakfast one day after a really tough workout. The server was pretty attentive and kept the water coming, which I was very thankful for. I had only been in Starlight once before and I wasn't impressed, but since it has been a few years I decided to give it a second chance. I had a delicious omelet with feta cheese, spinach and tomatoes, and side of bacon that was actually perfectly crispy. The food was decent, the service was decent, and the prices are excellent. I've only been here once but the experience was absolutely dreadful. The waitress was completely incompetent. It was nearly empty and she still failed to attend to our table. The food took ages to come out and was hardly worth the wait. It was extremely bland and poorly presented. One of my group was brought a very cold serving of beef and gravy, which was unceremoniously carried from the table by an uncaring waitress, and only after we had alerted another member of the staff because she was nowhere to be found. They threw it in the microwave. Disgusting. The salad was an absolute joke, literally just bits of iceberg lettuce with a single cherry tomato. The establishment itself was dreary and uninspired. So decided that we would give this place a try. Had read some good reviews and some awful. Well, my experience with the staff was good. The guy who waited on us was friendly. But when the food arrived, (not to long of a wait after ordering) was not even to the standard I would feed my dogs. The eggs were rubbery. How do you mess up over medium eggs? My home fries were barely warm and bland. Another person in my group ordered the Chicken Cesar salad didn't even resemble a Cesar salad, with watery like dressing, no croutons and slimy chicken. The last order was French Toast which she seemed to like, and actually looked like something I would eat. The price we paid was dirt cheap which is pretty much matching the food. Therefore we did not complain and figured we should accept the fact that you pay cheap prices you get cheap food. Except I would have paid the same at McDonalds and actually enjoyed it. read more

Eating at this place was a disappointment. Ordered the honey dipped chicken and it was the worst chicken platter I ever had in a restaurant. It reminded me of the pieces of chicken placed in store bought frozen TV dinners. Heavily breaded with tiny pieces with very little chicken to eat. Waitress did say it comes frozen and pre-packaged. Soup was very salty. The salad I had with the meal was quite small with cheap iceberg lettuce and one cherry tomato. The final scenario was when I went to exit the table and my foot slipped out of my sandal since my sandal was stuck to the floor! My husband mentioned the lousy quality of the meal to the cashier when he checked out and they did not care! This evening was our third visit. BEYOND excellent, as always! Breakfast, lunch, dinner...American, Italian, Oriental...steaks, chops, pancakes, stuffed shells, spaghetti, seafood. THEY CAN DO IT ALL! And do it FANTASTICALLY!!! Best food we have had, at ANY price...and theirs are pretty darn reasonable! one star is to much to give. started with service. place was empty maybe 10 customers. still sat for 15 minutes before server stopped to ask if anyone offered me a menu. asked for Chicken fried steak as a breakfast, didn't come with side of pancakes. was talked into CFS as a dinner. not what i was looking for. but hungry. asked for a French onion soup. came out no taste cheese hot soup was cold. didn't taste like anything good. food came out and was a mess. asked for corn, n/a mash potato cold and loaded with burnt gravy. there was so much white pepper gravy on the chicken you didn't know it was underneath. biscuits were burnt on one side. i wish i would have taken a picture. had one bite and stopped eating. the worst meal ever. chicken was dry and hard. after a while i knew why it was empty. server walked passed and asked if everything was ok. took longer for a check. when she returned asked me if everything was good i explained the issue and it seemed not to like was heard. her answer was do you want this for free? i was a paul ed by that. i payed it in full. thE cashier asked i told her never coming back worst food and service ever. didn't phased her. $22 bucks. ripped off. went to Dennys. should've went there first. my next call is health Department read more

Okay service, bland food. Our waitress was friendly enough, but forgot a side on one of our meals, and even after reminded, and acknowledging the mistake, still never brought the item. I got the breaded chicken cutlets and it was the blandest food I have ever eaten. I think they just rolled microwaved chicken in leftover toast crumbs, toasted for 10 minutes and sent it out. My son's pasta was okay, but it's hard to mess up pasta. We drove the extra mile to Perkins the next night. I would not recommend. read more

My wife and I ate there for our first time. The restaurant is clean and the prices are more than reasonable, but that's where the "positives" end. The soups were okay and homemade, but too salty and not hot enough. Too much rice in the chicken-and-rice soup and too many beans in the ham-and bean soup. Some more broth would have been nice. One of my wife's sides--the cole slaw-- was delivered at the same time as our soup, which made no sense to me. The slaw was cold and crunchy, which was a positive, but so sweet (like in too much sugar) that she could barely eat it. After a reasonable wait our entrees arrived. My salmon was acceptable, both in taste and size, but the cauliflower side was over cooked and absolutely bland--not a speck of any seasoning on it. My wife's stuffed flounder was terrible. The crab stuffing was obviously canned/frozen and thus ruined the whole meal. We both had French fries which were just fair. We had to ask for bread, which is supposed to accompany the meal, and we were nearly done before it arrived. We also had to ask for our water to be refilled. All and all it was not a real positive dining experience and we'll probably not go there again. read more

I was pretty disappointed eating a late evening dinner here. This appears to be a repurposed Perkins restaurant. Some places should remain closed, harsh words but the food here was subpar at best. The bacon cheese burger my date ordered was a frozen patty. I ordered eggs, no potatoes, bacon, grits and rye toast. I got the potatoes I didn't order. The rye toast was undone and mushy. The grits were lumpy and watery. Another table mate ordered the steak and shrimp. Tiny steak and two medium fried shrimp. In all 5 people are dinner / breakfast and the total came to $52.40. There in lies the problem. Quality sacrificed for cost. Cheap ingredients equals poor quality food and a poor experience. My suggestion is to increase quality by purchasing better food and you'd probably have more repeat business and happier customers. Meh' at best. read more

I was not impressed. The service was lacking and the food was bland. I ordered the waffles with strawberries. Based on the menus description and picture I was expecting waffles with sliced and whole strawberries on top, that was not the case. We weren't the only ones unhappy, the guy at the next table sent his steak back 2 times, then refused it, they put it in a box and made him pay his bill. This was a Sunday at 5pm. I enjoy diners and this place was really nice. I like how the tables are spaced out and you don't feel like your sitting on top of the next table over. The service was a tad bit slow but the waitresses were all friendly. I wanted to order dessert but I was never given the option that's why I bumped this review down to 4 stars. Portion sizes were huge, especially for the price. I got a western Omelet and my friend had wings. Great price for the wings and they were super meaty! I WILL return. read more

My husband and I go to Starlight about 3 or 4 times a month. There are a few waitresses that are so-so, but for the most part the staff is very nice and very attentive, including management. Their food is typical diner food, but they do have the best chipped beef in Hanover and a more extensive menu than most places. Prices are awesome and we can usually eat for about $17.00. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more
