When I walked in I wasn't sure where to go to find the area to order. It's a separate room from the seating area, so just a heads up so you aren't walking around looking lost like myself lol. Everyone working the coffee bar was extremely nice and it only took a few minutes to receive my order. HONEY OAT LATTE!! A must order drink! It's a little on the sweet side but you might be able to ask to have it less sweet if that's what you prefer! Was looking through Yelp and this little gem popped up. The aesthetics of this cafe is so cute and gives off an industrial feel, which I absolutely love! There's plenty of table and space for you to come and do work here and to just grab some coffee and bites. I got to try the cashew nut toast and of course their avocado toast. The cashew butter was rich and creamy and was the perfect amount of nuttiness. The avocado was good, loved the feta cheese that they crumble on top! A true hidden gem in the city of Martinez! Friendly, helpful and attentive employees. Very spacious interior with a modern look and feel. Simple menu, just the way I like it, that's how you know what this place has is delicious! Order a cold brew coffee and vanilla latte. Both of which were handled with love and tasted amazing. Drove out here because I saw the great reviews on yelp and it definitely did not disappoint! First of all, its located in the cutest little downtown area and when you walk in you'll be greeted by tall ceilings with industrial decor. We went on a saturday morning and the place was already packed with a line going to the door to order, so definitely expect a small wait. Anyways I ordered a dark mocha (which is not usually offered in many cafes) and my husband got a gibraltar. For small bites we got the onion cheese croissant and the veggie scone! I read a review about how the veggie scone was AMAZING and honestly ya the scone was my favorite, it would have been even better if they heated it up. The coffee was also really good, I would say it was worth our 20 min drive! Anyways overall a great cafe, good food, good vibes and good drinks. After my first review of this coffee shop, the owner graciously reached out to me and asked us to try some other things on the menu on the house. He told us that he really cares for the community and what we have to say which wonderful because my boyfriend grew up in this area. Cold brew 9/10: my boyfriend decided to try this drink again without the espresso shot and the acidity and sourness was no longer there. The drink was very smooth and had a wonderful flavor to it. Iced honey latte with oat milk 9/10: Banana bread 10/10: the texture of the bread was amazing. It was very moist and spongy and the overall flavor was tasty. Highly recommend. Chocolate chip cookie 8/10: a very large and dense cookie with a generous amount of chocolate chips inside. Overall, I had an amazing experience coming back for a second time!! The management, staff, food, and atmosphere is amazing. We highly recommend anyone in the area to try this place out as I will definitely come back again! Came in a couple days ago to grab some avocado toast. I frequent the Benicia location often. This is the 2nd time I've been to this location. I ask for light avocado toast because I know they usually pile it on. I was given a regular order of avocado toast and had to scrape off a bunch of it so that was a bummer. Chocolate chip cookie was kinda blah but overall a very cute and popular location in downtown. It's near a bunch of shops, bars, restaurants etc . It was pretty packed so seating was limited. States has always been high on my list of fave coffee shops. I use to frequent this location when I was in nursing school, so I have fond memories of studying in their back area during pre-covid times. Currently, they're doing orders inside with masked staff members, and allowing outdoor seating. I ordered an iced honey latte with oat milk (my go-to) and my friend got a golden matcha with oat milk. We absolutely enjoyed both! We opted for seating at the nearby marina since outdoor seating was pretty full, and we had plans for a picnic anyway. But keep that in mind when you visit, as you'll most likely have to bring your coffee elsewhere to enjoy it. Unfortunately the shopping area for local goods was inaccessible. I loved being able to see products from local vendors (keychains, leather goods, etc.), but understandable why there isn't shopping allowed inside under current conditions. I've been here twice, both times for our offsite unit meetings, both times during Covid. I love the building - red brick building, surrounded by plenty of street meter parking, in the middle of Downtown Martinez. There is also a parking lot next to the building. States now offers local home delivery and you can preorder online. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, so I ordered the dark hot cocoa. It wasn't sweet at all and it tastes just like dark chocolate - if you've eaten special dark chocolate, it tastes similar to that, without the sweetness. On my very first visit, I ordered the banana bread. I highly recommend the banana bread - it's moist and super delicious! States only allows 3 people inside at a time to order (due to Covid). Then you wait in the next room for your order. It took about 15 minutes for mine to come out, but I understand they were busy. In the waiting area, you can see one of the employees weighing coffee beans and packaging them. It was cool to watch. Plus I love the decor inside. It gave me a New York feel. There are tents outside but no tables, seats or heated lamps. It's just an open area to hang out with your friends or colleagues to chat and sip your coffee. It was very cold today but I managed to stay warm with my delicious hot cocoa. read more

Consistently high quality. It certainly helps that the beans are roasted in house. Can't beat that! Baristas are all well trained and talented. I've tried cortados, cappuccinos, lattes, and their hot drinks always come out with EXCELLENT texture to the foam. I get an iced flavored latte as an occasional treat and it is never overly sweet - just right. Also, their ginger matcha over ice is.... dare i say, life changing? it's luxurious and special, absolutely crave-worthy. once you've tried it, it's easy to understand their line around the block on Farmers Market Sundays! We parked nearby to go to the farmers market and were immediately intrigued by the long line! After a stroll on the way back to our car we took a peak in and saw that it was a coffee spot! Score! I ordered an iced honey latte and a baguette to bring home. They honey latte is amazing! Life changing! Got to get again! The coffee is nice and smooth. Very enjoyable. The honey adds a slight sweetness and as a girl who normally loads up on sugar I was surprised I loved it! I think because the coffee was so smooth and nice it didn't need much sugar to make it palatable. The baguette was amazing! Nice and crusty and went perfect with some cheese I had just picked up at the market. It also made some great sandwiches later in the week. There is a lot of seating indoors but we chose to sit outside where there also is a lot of space! They share the spot with a nearby brewery so the space did start to fill up as we got closer to noon. What happened to States Coffee? See my review from March 14, 2017. 5 stars "best oat milk cappuccino anywhere", etc. I actually learned about Oatmilk as an alternative to my normal soy milk back then 8 years ago. I see another negative review by SG who has also been coming here since 2017. My oat milk latte is still good, but though I told three times to the check out person that I wanted it for here, it still came in a wasteful non-compostable, plastic coated paper cup. I then told this to the barista who simply said "we don't have enough employees to do for here cups". 2nd I used to get great avocado toasts here and stopped making them. Plus seems like every time I come here there are different employees. One of the great things over the years was a stable workforce. Suddenly I came here they all had disappeared. Sorry also to see that the one in Martinez that had great backed goods, including fresh bread, is closed. Curious if it changed ownership or what? Sorry to see it go down hill. read more

They have a little bit of everything for all flavors of coffee. they have a lighter roast, medium roast, darker roast, blends, and coffee choices of the day. They also have delicious bread too with a nice hard crust if you're into that type of bread. their olive bread is absolutely amazing and often sells out quickly! The line here can get long really quickly, especially on Sundays when there's a farmer's market. it's a great little place to grab a coffee and walk around the farmer's market. it's a nice way to enjoy or start your sunday or just relax a bit on a sunday. read more

Plenty of room for those who want to sit and work/study. They sell branded hats, t-shirts, tote bags, and a variety of beans/blend bags for purchase. They have a small variety of pastries and a small/medium menu of coffee options. My husband and I ordered a Vanilla Latte and a Decaf Dark Chocolate Mocha. Both were delicious! I ordered honey latte with oat milk, avocado toast and they were delicious. The avocado toast has some red sprinkle on the top that make it a little bit spicy but it's delicious. The size of the avocado toast is quite big and it could be shared with another person. The service is quick and they bring your plate to where you sit which is very nice. The price is a little high but I think it is worth it when you are getting coffee that's from fresh roasted coffee bean. Paid street parking only and it's not easy to find parking sometimes. read more

My return visit to States was a delight today! I first visited years ago when they had just opened, and I'm glad the opportunity finally arrived for me to pop in again. Their location has just about tripled in size, and while it was a little confusing to find their actual ordering area (there's about 4 different doors to get in and really only one takes you to the coffee ordering spot as opposed to lovely seating areas), a very gracious pair of regulars pointed me in the right direction. Their morning rush was on but it was still a very reasonable wait for a great cup of lovingly made joe. I kept it simple with the vanilla latte, and took in the vibe of the place during my 5 or so minute wait. It reminded me of Pachamama in Sacramento, and the coffee houses of suburban Oregon. If you don't particularly enjoy the corporate and corny vibe of that other coffee joint that starts with an S, I assure you States is the antidote. My only disappointment was that I visited on a Tuesday morning so I wasn't able to try their baked goodies (a sign noted their baker is off Mondays and Tuesdays). A welcome respite from chains and mayhem, and a great choice for seekers of quality and calm. I look forward to returning! read more

Another great cup of coffee and vegan pastry experience at States! This independent coffee shop has expanded quite a bit since it first opened several years ago and it's still a cool, hipster spot for locals to enjoy a beverage and something to eat. It's located next door to Five Suns Brewing (which used to be a parking lot across the street from Campbell Theatre!) There's lots and lots of indoor seating, plus outdoor seating on the street. Right now, they're only serving drinks in to-go cups while they maintain pandemic protocols, guidelines which are posted on all of the exterior doors. It's well worth the wait in line if you like good quality dark bitter chocolate in your mocha, without the sugary sweetness. And if you do want a sweet treat, the vegan doughnuts -- Blueberry, Earl Grey, and Chocolate, are fluffy and delicious to enjoy alongside your beverage. Support local! read more

Exterior/Interior: Cute boutique coffee shop built to have that vintage open space feel while making local neighborhood guests feel at home. Definitely loving the layout and overall look for this coffee shop allowing guests hang out in the main building with a few couches and chairs to lounge on and an overflow area with an extension next door that consists of additional tables and chairs. Outdoor seating is available as well. They also have some blocks children can play with, which my children enjoyed. Service: Upon arrival the line stretched all the way out the opposite end of the shop with about 10 guests ahead of me estimating about 10 minutes before being able to place my order. For a busy Saturday morning there were 3 ladies working, 2 baristas and a cashier who also served the drinks. Service overall was quick but not as personal. I understand the busyness of the crowd, but would have loved more engagement since it was my first visit and barely any eye contact. Drinks: Honey Latte 5/5: Delicious latte with the perfect sweetness from the honey and balance of milk. Tastes very similar to Journey Coffee in Fairfield and Vacaville Regular Latte 4/5- was good but nothing better than what our Nespresso makes at home. Overall: cute place to visit and check out. Awesome place for studying (5/5), okay coffee drinks( 3/5), but I'd come again to try something different. States Coffee is an enormous but still cozy feeling coffee shop in Martinez. By its level of hip-ness (decorative ferns, glossy wooden furniture, brick walls and letterboard menus) it feels like it would fit in with a coffee shop in a big city, but it's in the middle of a comfortable suburban downtown. I paid for street parking, but it was an inexpensive 50c / hour (unheard of!!) As other reviews have mentioned, States is composed of 3 adjoining rooms - in total, there's probably seats for a good 30 without anybody feeling squished at all. When I came midafternoon on a Friday, there were lots of patrons sitting doing work - whether in a business meeting at the bar stools or studying for tests in the long family tables. Outlets are aplenty and wifi strong, music is pleasant and not too noisy - overall one of the best work-from-home type places I've run into in the area. Coffee wise, I had a hot vanilla latte. The latte art was lovely on top but the coffee itself not particularly flavorful - it was quite sweet and milky however. I'm grateful that the Yelp Check In deal was 50% off this item, but the quality of the drink really didn't match with how I felt about the rest of the coffee shop. I'm hoping that the other drinks, such as the brewed coffees, would be better. read more

As I sit here admiring the brick walls and the aesthetics of the gold, wooden, and greenery decor - I'm in awe of such a coffee shop let alone in Martinez. Street parking is available and meters don't begin until 9AM. Outdoor and indoor seating with plenty of high tops and regular tables and a lot of outlets! They did a great job interior decorating and complimenting the natural brick building. Space is huge with so many doors I was a little confused about which way to enter at first. They don't serve almond or coconut milk which I was bummed out about initially, but their oat milk was fantastic (unlike some others I've tried in different places). Their honey latte was THE ONE! Not too sweet. They sell vegan donuts and some other small snacks. Diversity isn't an issue here either, in case you are worried about that. Honestly, you even forget that you're in a small town.
