The Station Taproom is one of my favorite places in town. The beer selection is large, the food is wonderful and flavorful, the staff is very friendly and well informed, and the atmosphere is spot on Durring my last visit (one of countless visits) I ordered the chorizo quesadilla, Alagash White, and shared an order of fries. It was all spectacular. My only recommendation to the chef would be to possibly use roughly chopped red chorizo instead of ground. It came of as slightly gritty. Having said that, everything else that I've ever ordered there has come out amazingly. Tip: if you're not familiar with craft beers, tell your waiter or waitress what beers you typically enjoy and they will recommend one for you. A little pub across from the Downingtown train station...it sounds like the start of a limerick. The food and beer selection here is some of the very best I've encountered anywhere in the Philly suburbs. The beer changes almost daily (sometimes even during the day) offering aficionados everything from winter stout to pale ale from microbreweries scattered across the country. Who has the time to sample all of these...I want that job! The food is delicious, savory and not like any bar food I have ever eaten. This stuff could be served in a fine restaurant, or a pub across from the Downingtown train station. Their daily specials are not to be missed, seriously, that chef knows what he is doing and does it very well. Go, enjoy yourself for an hour or two. Snuggle up to the bar or grab a table but do it quick. It's not a large place so you might have to jostle a bit. If you want true heaven, try their Sunday Brunch but get there at 11am sharp or just wait until 12:45 when the crowd thins...their brunches are stupendous! read more

To be honest I only heard of Station Taproom after they were mentioned in Phlly Magazine's Best Of issue. My girlfriend lives close by so Friday night we went to see what all the hub bub was about. We arrived around 7PM and surprisingly the place was not too packed. We had a short wait of about 10-15 minutes. There didn't seem to be any one particular person handling the seating, just whoever was available. I was expecting a much busier bar and a much longer wait but I wasn't going to complain about that. Our waiter was great. He was very friendly and helpful. The beer selection was a good mix of local brews and other craft beers from around the country. There was an equally impressive bottle selection as well as a number of different wines, whiskeys/bourbons as well. Our waiter rattled off a long list of specials for the night and also explained that the bar tries to source as many of it's ingredients as it could from local farms. I always love it when a small, local bar sticks to supporting the farms around it. We ended up ordering the chipotle hummus to start and followed that up with a "deconstructed" BLT and a fried chicken sandwich, both which were specials for the night. The hummus was good, not great, and had a nice little kick. I prefer my hummus to be a bit more creamy, but overall it had good flavor and tasted fresh. Both the BLT and fried chicken sandwich were fantastic. The BLT consisted of bacon, lettuce and tomato (duh), but had no bread. Sitting on top of all of this was one big egg, sunny side up. For the chicken, it was fried yet still thick and moist when you bit into it. On top was a delicious chipotle-lime type of sauce that went well with the onions and the chicken. Both sandwiches were tasty and the highlights of the meal, with the breadless BLT+egg one slightly edging the other out. I loved almost everything about Station Taproom. Keyword: almost. As the night went on and the bar began to get more crowded, the noise level rose greatly. By the end of our meal it was hard to hear one each other from the ends of the table. It's not the worst thing in the world though because that means the place is busy and busy makes money. I would definitely eat here again and plan on doing so (especially for brunch)! read more

Was passing through after a hike, looking for quality beer and food. Originally stopped by a local brewery that I won't mention, place was packed, felt like a chuckie cheese, and there was no room at the bar, so decided to split for something different. Station taproom was pleasantly busy, cozy. I grabbed a seat at the bar. Beer selection was excellent for a small place. Very happy to see Tired Hands brews on the menu. Ordered a hop hands, bartender ran through the specials and I ordered the burger special with bacon, pulled pork, bbq sauce and a smoked cheddar I believe. Now let me tell you, this burger was cooked an absolutely flawless medium rare. Crazy juicy, just so good, like beyond belief good. The fries were that perfect crispy, light crunch on the outside, not too heavy on the inside. I've been to brewpubs, gastropubs, ale houses and burger joints across the country, but it's hard to remember a time I've had a beer and burger combo that would surpass the experience at station taproom. We went for brunch today for my daughter in laws birthday. The place Is very small but cozy. High tops, regular table and the bar for seating. The owner moves tables to accommodate. Husband and son had chicken and waffles. The chicken was in a delicious white sauce. Waffles thick and crispy. Served with hash browns. I had mushroom toast. Sourdough toast, mushrooms in a mustard sauce with a fried egg. Delicious veggie frittata and chicken fingers for the grand baby finished it off. Great place only wish the home fries were cut bigger. We went back in early February on a cold, dreary, rainy Saturday afternoon. I'm happy with the Station again. I think on my January visit, it was too crowded and I was disappointed overall in that singular visit. One thing I have noticed is that their bar staff is not overly friendly. I'm not looking for a chatterbox, and they aren't sullen, but they get you your beers and clear your plates. Not much chit-chat otherwise. That doesn't matter too much, because our food and beers were awesome. My husband and I also split the iceberg wedge. Wow. Homemade buttermilk dressing is out-of-the-park. I returned to ordering the Curried Chickpea Burger, but with bacon ('cause everything is better with bacon). Delish! The fries are also prepared just the way I like them--crispy and with just enough salt. My husband enjoyed the Thai Red Curry (my disaster of a dish on the last visit), but this time, it was not soupy, and had great flavor. We will definitely return for future visits, but will probably focus on weekend afternoons, when the kitchen isn't overly busy and we can enjoy a leisurely meal. read more

I used to live in the area and was a patron since they first opened their doors. The beer selection has always been impressive with about 10 rotating taps. it has a very urban vibe for a suburban restaurant. the formula of a selection of craft beers and a changing menu is pretty standard for a lot of restaurants in the city, but still fairly unusual in a place like downingtown. Having said that, this place is not a 5 star rating because its the only show in town. Station Taproom would be doing just fine in philly even with heavy compeition. They do not offer miller lite or yuengling if that is what you are looking for. i'm actually always confused by people that look for miller lite at a place like this. it would be like trying to get chicken fingers at a nice restaurant. expand your palate...you may not like everything but you can appreciate the variety...ask for a sample before you try it. the food is top notch. the shrimp and grits are great. i've always really like the chick-pea burger thing. It's basically the best veggie burger you'll ever have. their happy hour is a good deal for the beer you get. they also offer a limited selection of wine and whiskeys. (they may have a full stocked bar, i'm not sure, i've only ever noticed the whiskeys). honestly though, if you're at a place called a 'taproom' you should probably give the beer a shot. if you claim you don't like beer, its probably because you have found the style you like. I read a review that complained about their wine selection. First of all, they do offer a fairly decent variety of wines. Perhaps not many in each style but they spread it out a bit, and they are pretty good wines. overall, good vibe, good staff, great food, great beer, good prices. read more

My girlfriend and I come here essentially every Sunday for brunch. We occassionally consider other options such as Side Bar in West Chester, but Station Taproom is just too good pass up. Their beers on tap are always outstanding, not to mention I haven't seen them stock overrated Victory beer too often. The brunch menu isn't overwhelming, but just browsing the items, you're inclined to order everything since it all sounds so good. The place itself is pretty small, and I've heard that it tends to be packed for happy hour and dinner. So while we'd love to eat here for dinner one night, we prefer to not deal with the craziness since brunch can be bad enough. I would also note that this place probably isn't ideal for large groups. If you're on a double date with another couple, then sure. I have seen large groups seated for brunch, but it just makes the wait that much longer for those of us waiting to be seated since the hostess has to combine tables. The only reason I didn't give Station Taproom 5 stars is the organization (or disorganization) of the seating. Typically when my girlfriend and I arrive there, there are plenty of other couples/groups waiting to be seated (thus hanging around the bar drinking). They don't have a solid methodology around seating people. We have been bypassed by the hostess seating another couple/family who clearly came in after us. I know no place is perfect, but they probably should have a hostess stationed at the front or side door to take names upon customer's entering the resturant. If you like pretty awesome craft beer to go with a pretty specular brunch menu, then Station Taproom is place to go. read more

The burger was awesome. We got burgers and eggplant fries and were really happy with the orders. The tomatoes were really fresh and the burger was cooked just the way I asked. The bread was good too. The menu lists some of the vendors they try to buy ingredients from locally and the burgers were listed as "hormone free". I hope they keep expanding their menu because what we had at dinner time was delicious. I saw they do have a breakfast menu but didn't get to look at it. Service was friendly and attentive. The place was clean. There were nice window seats and high tops besides the bar seating. Exposed brick and paintings. The bathroom was very clean and kept up (for some reason I really care about that in restaurants). (Side note) We went on a rainy day this September and the air was cranked up so both of us was really cold with sweaters but the waitress was nice and offered to turn down the air. Would go again. For food, we ordered the truffle fries and the mussels (served in a delicious perfectly spiced Thai curry sauce with some sliced bread for dipping). Drinks-wise, My companion stuck with light pale ales and pilsners.. Drove way out of my way to try this place with a friend recently and was very happy with the decision to do so..... The space.... is very small, but has a very clean and friendly atmosphere. We were greeted to the bar by a very friendly bartender who was attentive the whole night. The beer.... selection wasn't very large for a taproom, but there was a good diversity in styles and brands which did not disappoint. The food.... was not anything to rave about, but was good enough that I didn't leave wanting more. I ordered a medium rare burger topped with brie and bacon and came with a side of fries. The burger was satisfactory, but was not the most flavorful meat. The fries were pretty good. I plan on trying the mac n cheese next time I'm here as it seems to be a common topic in other reviews. This is my favorite place in Downingtown--and I like it for the food just as much as I like it for its beverage selection. The truffle fries are amazing--and Station gives you so many!! I sometimes just order them for dinner... :) I've had the grilled cheese here as well and it is VERY different, but really good. It's high class with multiple different kinds of fancy cheese. I wouldn't suggest it if you are counting your calories (I only had it once...and there is a reason for that). We have been going here for dinner on a weekly basis for years, and we are still not tired of Station Taproom. There is nowhere even close to go in Downingtown in terms of quality and variety, which is why we are such fixtures here. Oh yeah, and the food is awesome. The regular menu has great standards, like fish and chips, the pulled pork sandwich, and truffle fries. They offer a cheese plate, with different cheeses available to choose from on a weekly basis, and the accompaniments are always excellent. The specials they offer every weekend are varied and amazing - tonight we shared a Mexican flatbread appetizer that was mildly spicy and wholly delicious, with a slice of creamy eggnog cheesecake for dessert. And the food is not just good sometimes. It is consistently good, at both brunch and dinner. My husband and I have vastly different tastes in beer, and there is always something new for each of us to try. Tonight? I had Anchor Christmas Ale and he had Wurtzburger Pilsner, and we were both happy with our choices. They update the choices on tap frequently, and have several different types of beer available at all times. Finally, the service here is amazing. All of the ladies who tend bar, hostess and serve are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they make us very happy to return every week. You know there is a good working environment at a restaurant when you see the same people there week after week, and it shows in the service. I only have two small complaints about Station Taproom: there are too many IPA's for our liking, and this place is too popular! So don't come! Especially on a Friday night. ;) read more

Hands down, my favorite place. Let's face it, the dining choices are weak along the 30 corridor in Chester County. This place is a jewel in the rough. I travel a lot, so I'm spoiled when it comes to fine dining establishments. The folks that run Station Taproom got their act together. The place is small, which is good. Nice bar, some high-boys, and tables. The beer selection is fresh and always something new on the board. The food is always, always perfect. Their menu is diverse and covers my food spectrum perfectly. But, I usually order one of the specials. Entrees, burger specials, and the Brussels sprouts-hot damn. So good we ate there twice ! We were told about this place by the B and B owner and we headed there for lunch. I had the fish and chips; all good, excellent chips. My husband had a salad and the mushroom toast. He order it again when we returned the next evening. For our dinner visit we tried had equally good food. The calamari salad was great. The shrimp and grits was excellent but very rich. I ended up leaving a lot on my plate because it was more than I could finish. Good service I'd go back next time I'm in the area. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants! We always go here and even bring our 2 1/2 year old son and now newborn. The food is always good and my husband is always happy with their beer selection. The staff is awesome and we are never disappointed with the service or food. There are two negatives to this corner bar/gastropub. 1) Not enough room! 2) Not enough room!! I can't blame them for the tiny size but if you can visit on an off night this place is amazing. Grab a bar stool and chat it up with the bartenders. They know their beer! This is what other corner bars try to be! Great food (try their carolina pulled pork) and amazing beer/whiskey selections. Not much else liquor or wine wise but it's a small corner bar/pub that it'd be impossible to have a 20 seater bar with a a full selection of every beer, whiskey, and wine. This is our choice spot for a happy hour evening start or a couples night out. How can you beat a great list of draft, craft beers alongside great food. The menu is exactly what we like and I have not had a bad meal there. If you are visiting, I can't think of where you would go other than here, Victory, Amani's (byob, less casual), Brickside, ... (a few others I may be leaving out). The only hurdle is getting a table but any of the other places can also be up to 1 hour for seating. Why do we see restaurants folding, yet the good places take an hour to be seated? You can know that you will have excellent beer while you wait but if crowds are not your thing, go for another place. read more

The "Tap" is hands down the BEST place for a "foodie" to eat in town. I frequent this place weekly with friends, and go solo after a long day on set. My favorite is the muscles and homemade marinara sauce. The gravy is far from traditional....it's a bit creamy and spicy which is why I love it. Their specials are always unique and consistent with the season and the prices are phenomenal for such gourmet delights. I'm a little afraid to leak too much glory on this hidden gem b/c I want to keep it all to myself....but that would be selfish. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the art that decks the walls is always cool and interesting to gaze at from afar. Very cool, hip, warm, inviting and amazing place to try if you're looking for a great place to eat where locals welcome you with kind words and funny stories. The only downfall I can see is it's size. Since this used to once be a twin home the place is a bit tight.... You may have to wait a bit for a table but don't fret b/c while you await you can enjoy some craft beers or succulent wine while you admire the art.
