Great tacos and great beer. We stopped by at 2 pm on a weekday and found the restaurant closed (our bad, we hadn't checked) but ran into someone outside who let us know that the tap room served food. We tried it and we were the only people in the taproom. Tacos were amazing, particularly the one with bacon. We also enjoyed the brussel sprout salad which was novel and delicious. Visited in the middle of the afternoon, only a couple of patrons at bar and three tables (so not busy). We ordered the truffle fries, panini special and ramen bowl. Fries came out first and had almost zero truffle essence to them and were poorly seasoned. After our fries were finished we waited nearly 20 minutes for our meals. Ramen came out hot, good flavor with fresh herbs. Panini however was cold and completely unappealing, sent it back couldn't even take a bite. Great food, great drinks! We have been here many times and had a great experience every time. We usually go after 9pm- and typically lots of choices for seating. They do full menu typically til 10pm, small plates after. The food is always amazing, and always changing! They try to source locally, which is a boon in chester county- why buy from California or chile if we produce it right here? That said, prices are great even with local sourcing. The "Tap" is hands down the BEST place for a "foodie" to eat in town. I frequent this place weekly with friends, and go solo after a long day on set. My favorite is the muscles and homemade marinara sauce. The gravy is far from traditional....it's a bit creamy and spicy which is why I love it. Their specials are always unique and consistent with the season and the prices are phenomenal for such gourmet delights. I'm a little afraid to leak too much glory on this hidden gem b/c I want to keep it all to myself....but that would be selfish. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the art that decks the walls is always cool and interesting to gaze at from afar. Very cool, hip, warm, inviting and amazing place to try if you're looking for a great place to eat where locals welcome you with kind words and funny stories. The only downfall I can see is it's size. Since this used to once be a twin home the place is a bit tight.... You may have to wait a bit for a table but don't fret b/c while you await you can enjoy some craft beers or succulent wine while you admire the art. Never had a good meal here. Not once. Every meal was excellent. That's right...excellent. Small menu that's very well done. If it can be made in-house, they do it. As a beer guy, can't go wrong, either. They don't have a big bottle list, but their draft selection is always worth the trip alone. It's their food that really shines, though. Station Taproom is by far my favorite place to go out to eat and drink in Chester County. My wife and I have been going here since they first opened and we have been taking our daughter along with us she she was born. There usually is a crowd at nights and on weekends but their food makes it all worth the wait. Having the Bottle Room next door now also helps! It is also noisy but like I said the food rarely disappoints so it's a minor nuisance that I don't mind. The servers and management are all very friendly and accommodating. As for the meals they rarely disappoint. We always go for the Thai Curry Mussels or Fried Green Tomato Stack for an app. For our meals, The Taproom Burger is always a great choice and especially excellent during brunch with the egg added. The Fried Chicken Panini and Beef Tendorloin sandwich are also must haves! A couple of my favorite dishes were recently replaced and they added a Chicken Ramen dish that was so good I wanted a second bowl. Their specials are always interesting and their brunch is the best in the area. The anniversary party is always a must attend event. We were there this past Saturday when I ordered the Chicken Ramen and my wife ordered another new menu item...the Pork Belly Sliders. Those for her were the first miss in a long time. She did not like them at all as they were overly fatty and not crispy as she prefers her pork belly cooked which she faulted herself. This is where I have to commend their excellent customer service. The waitress asked if she wanted them replaced to which my wife declined as my daughter and I were already finished with our meals. Tasha the manager came over to check on us asking if there was anything she could do, to which my wife declined again. We didn't feel it was necessary as it wasn't any fault of the kitchen or wait staff. My wife simply didn't like them and it was getting late so she was ready to go. We had no problem paying for the sliders even though she didn't eat them. Without asking, Tasha and the waitress generously took the sliders off the bill. We actually asked them to put it back on but in the end just tipped our waitress what would have been if they kept it on. I can't say enough good things about this place even during a VERY RARE off meal which as I said was no fault of theirs. We had the lamb burger and the mac and cheese. Both were outstanding. The mac and cheese is a newer version with Fontina cheese, bacon, leeks, and sun dried tomatoes. It was very good but a bit rich so I had to take it home, which is not the worst thing in the world. My wife had the lamb burger and it was very flavorful and quite the unique twist on an American classic. On top of it all is that the prices are very reasonable. Two drinks of a fantastic Christmas ale and two entrees were less than $35. The service was great, knowledgeable, and friendly. We are definitely putting this on the must return list. read more

truffle fries = legal crack This place has personality, friendly service and amazing food. The "happy hour" specials are a great deal - the pulled pork is fab, but at $5 it's ultra fab. $3 pints too - what more do you need in Downingtown? Other menu items are interesting and fresh as well, and the truffle fries (a generous portion) are to die for. Haven't been there for brunch or a special tasting/pairing dinner yet, but I hear solid feedback on both. Only catch is that it's small and doesn't accept reservations - it can get noisy too if that's important to you. Menu changes often so there's always something new to try - so far, risotto, seafood and the aforementioned pulled pork have all been stellar. Can't get enough of Station Taproom. Whether it's a Sunday Brunch with an ever evolving menu, or a Late Dinner with our favorite Bartender Ted, the Taproom has something for everyone. The restaurant part of this establishment has walls with continually changing local artwork on display. The staff are extremely friendly. Oh yeah and they don't call it the Station Taproom for nothing. Some of the best selection in Beers, Wines, Whiskey I have seen in the area. Kitchen is small but functions fluently, and the food is fantastic. What keeps us coming back? My friends and I looked up this place on yelp after hearing recommendations- we found a new favorite place. Browse the interesting menu first...The edamame with sea salt and lime were a great starter. Our meals were also full of fantastic flavors. I have food allergies and was pleasantly surprised at what I could eat, their easy accommodations for me and the GLORIOUS tastes! Their brisket is a must-have-item. Amazing kitchen (really unexpected and far in excess of the expectations set by the pub ambiance) and an extensive selection of tap beers - but sadly not as much variety in the types of beers . July 4th weekend (HOT) and only one each of Hefewizen and pilsner, 2 pale ales and the rest IPA, 2IPA, porters, tripel. All are good mind you, just not as seasonal as expected. Not to be negative Nellie - make a meal out of starters. Ricotta is made in house, chèvre and other cheeses local, and there is so much variety. All prices are reasonable. Only food item that needs work are the fries which were greasy and limp! read more

Very nice atmosphere. Wine glasses were clean as was the one universal bathroom. My smoked brisket sandwich was delicious. It needed a bit of salt but the balance of sauce, meat and crunch of toasted bread was enjoyable. Very much worth the price to value. My wife had the cuban egg rolls. They were ok but not spectacular. I think the price of wine during happy hour should be more competitive with the surrounding businesses. Wish I could say good things - but srvice tonight was atrocious. We got there at 8... checked in, then were overlooked for a table at least 5x. Literally, I watched as new couples entered and were seated as we stood there. While it was busy, it was not over run. When we finally were seated, 15 min went by without anyone taking a drink order or a hello. Two tables seated after us got drinks and food ordered while we sat there. When we finally decided we couldn't wait any longer, the hostess shot me a confused then harsh look as I walked out. Get your act together and I will return. First experience: Happily waited an hour (standing) while enjoying two rounds of drinks. Were told there was one table ahead of us but seems to be just that type of cool place that people want to stay awhile so it was fine. Table opened and a 3 top - who walked in 20 minutes after we did- was seated. The place is small enough to notice this and happened to be right next to where we were standing so I said to the hostess and group, "I think we were here first." Everything went downhill. The hostess went to check but the group just sat and luckily there was another 4 top open so she could say there is another table for us as soon as it had been bused but the damage had been done. My husband and brother no longer wanted to stay. The manager offered a free round of drinks and quick service but it was too late. We went to Victory for 9:00 meal when it could've been an 8:00 meal. Too bad. First impressions are so important. The 3 top should've been offered the round of drinks! Everything happens for a reason. read more

So, this was not our fist visit to the Station Tap room, but definitely our worst. We only had to wait ten minutes, which was great. Food not up to par. Service was minimal, rushed and not attentive. Our server, Rachel ( the check said, she never told us) spent as little time at our table as possible. Never offered drinks, or waters, we had to ask for both. Took forever to come back and every time we needed something we had to get her attention as she was leaving our table. Even when she finally dropped the check, she said "here you go", and kept on walking, not even a thank you! Terrible service, wonder if this was her first night!? My burger was ordered medium, came out well done. When she asked how the food was, she never even came to a full stop at our table, so I didn't have time to mention the burger. It wasn't busy so we don't know where she had to go in such a hurry. I hope they train her before she works again. We will come back, but not to Rachel's tables. read more

I am still dreaming of the mac n' cheese I ate here on Saturday. Seriously, I want it in my mouth again and soon, so much so I'm willing to risk a that's what she said comment in my yelp review. Enough dirty talk, let's get down to it. I am incredibly impressed with Station Taproom. The first impression is wonderful. The place is gorgeous and refined. I dig the open kitchen and the woodwork, really nice touches. Even the bathrooms are pretty. Second impression was even better as a. Our waitress was quite possibly the sweetest server I've ever encountered and b. You get a lemon in your ice water, without asking. Kudos! I'm really into lemon water so you know, that just gets me. Now for the food and the beer. As a vegetarian I was super impressed with the amount of options on the menu. I had a hard time deciding but settled on the artichoke and asparagus salad and the mac n' cheese. My husband had the homemade chips and guac special app of the day and the Thai Red Curry. The artichoke asparagus salad was really refreshing and came with a smattering of parmesan cheese and some "peppadews," which is now my favorite pepper name. The sweet/vinegar ratio was spot on with the parmesan adding a nice salty touch. Nom, nom, nom. My husband was kind enough to let me taste a few chips and some guacamole. The chips were fried to crispy perfection but weren't greasy and the guacamole had a really lovely flavor. While my mac n' cheese was cooling, I swear I could see steam and cheesy bubbles, I stole a taste of the thai red curry. Amazing! I will probably get it next time if I don't repeat the mac n' cheese because, again, I have been thinking about for two whole days now. It comes with whole kalamata olives in it, and I don't mean a few peppered in there for good measure, I mean like a handful of those bad boys! The salty, hot olives melted perfectly with the fontina cheese and macaroni. You also get a good dose of sun dried tomatoes and arugula as well. Tasty, tasty! We had two yummy Cantillon Classic Gueuze with our meals so we were too stuffed for dessert but I hear the creme brulee is quite nice. Next time, next time. My only gripe was that the beer prices weren't listed on the chalkboard. The wine prices were, so maybe it was an oversight of the day. I was also pleased to see they offer flights, one of my new favorite things! We got four fancy ass beers, two entrees and two appetizers for $60, pretty damn amazing. Oh and you can take the R5 pretty much to the door of Station Taproom, hence the name. Let your server or bartender know you're commuting and they'll let you know when the last train is leaving the station. Brilliant! read more

Well I'm not sure if this place is trying too hard or not hard enough. We paid our first visit and had an array of small plates. Most of the menu items try to steep out of the ordinary. Although they were good they all missed the mark. The pork sliders were good but something was a little cold, maybe the roll, and the roll got soggy quickly. The hot wings were good but the wings were very small. My wife thought this may be due to them trying to source local organic foods. The taproom broth mussels were good but not very flavorful. The truffle fries, were quite tastey put the fries we were given were mostly tiny little fry crumbs. When we asked for a replacement bowl, the new bowl was only a third the size of the first bowl (did they just take out the crumbs and give us what was left). We pointed the size out to the waiter and were given a second small bowl of fries. The short rib egg roll was tastey but greasy. Finally, its a noisy place. By the time we left at 8:00 on a Friday, the place was half empty but it was still difficult to carry on a conversation across the table. read more

Cool atmosphere, a little noisy and cramped but that's what I expect when I go to a bar. Decent beer selection on tap. This was a little more of a restaurant than a bar for what I expected. The menu sounds tasty, and we went with the raved over truffle fries and cheese dip. I have to say the fries were so salty I couldn't eat them. My boyfriend loves salty food and even he said they were too salty. I still don't know what the truffle flavor is! The cheese dip was better but not outstanding. A little spicy but nothing I couldn't throw together in my kitchen with some velveeta. Served with rock hard crostini which at least they will bring you more of free of charge. I might come back for a cold beer after work and try one of their dinners so I can give it another review. read more

For some reason they offer a version of eggs Benedict with deep fried poached eggs, I thought it sounded interesting, unfortunately they used the same deep fryer oil from the fish and chips, disgusting! Very comfortable, but very well thought out menu, both for food and beer. Their beer selection is perfect for beer lovers, and regularly rotates. The food is fantastically, and efficiently prepared. Very developed flavors. I had the Red Thai Curry wings, as did another in our party, and the 3rd got the mussels. Literally across the street from the Downingtown R5 station. I had a Bear Republic Racer 5 and a Founders Brewery IPA. Not high priced, and I can't wait to go back. read more

This is on my favorite list. Have been going there since they opened and everything about this place is amazing, except when they are busy and there is a wait to get seated. But you will wait because its worth it! The beer list is always great and upated when we visit. The TRUFFLE fries are key if you go to dine or even if you and your party are there to have a beer, order the fries I am telling you. Also, I got the red curry dish a few times and it is always hot, plentiful and delicious. Last time I tried the vegetarian burger and that was good, but not as good as the red curry. My husband had a burger last visit as well and he said it was excellent. Bottom line- a great local place with good service and food, and a nice beer selection. The closest thing to a smaller taproom in the city of Philly that you can get out here in the burbs. Love it! read more

Great beer selection. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had the flatbread, Greek Salad and truffle fries all very good. I tried the pulled pork sandwich which I quite enjoyed.
