The food that they serve here is just absolutely delicious. There was a bit of a wait on a weekday afternoon, (I waited half an hour) but the wait was well-worth it. The line was pretty long, but that's how you know a food cart serves great food. I settled for the kimichi sesame steak with brown rice. My dish came with a bed of lettuce and kimichi all over perfectly marinated, tender and juicy steak. The sauce that they gave also made the steak delicious, but it would've been just as good without the sauce. Pictures don't do any justice, but the steak that they serve here has to be one of the best steaks I've ever eaten...this coming from a food cart. As I was looking for something to eat for lunch while going to a Broadway matinee the day before Broadway closed due to COVID, there was multiple food carts on 50th St. After narrowing down my choices, I found this place with the most reviews and with a great rating. Turns out, a great option for a lunch in Midtown in a mainly touristy area. Of course, I got the Steak Basil, which was good overall. The steak is cooked to a good medium rare, covered with a tasty, yet slightly stir fried with some flavorful basil. We are in NY for two weeks and I wanted to find good food trucks to try out. Mostly, good vendors only sell during weekdays lunch hours. I had steak basil over vegetables. I asked to replace rice with vegetables and paid $9. Price was good and very cheap. Steak basil was tasty and good portion if meat. There are so many food trucks in the area, but I find myself coming back to this one at least once a week. So good. And so much protein. The sesame beef is awesome, the sauce is great without being overwhelming. And everything is made when you order, so expect to wait a few minutes for your order. Reading on yelp that it would be packed at 12, i got there at 11:20ish. There were a few people but not too bad. I ordered a steak frite, the steak was soooo juicy and tender. The fries had an interested seasoning, it tasted like salt, pepper, garlic powder and maybe a touch of grated cheese. The salad was decent. But the star was definitely the steak. I don't like to take unnecessarily-long breaks just to get my food when I'm planning to eat lunch at my desk, so I was pretty annoyed by the time I reached the front of the line to order at the Steak Freak truck and fifteen minutes had passed. I ordered what I figured I was likeliest to enjoy - the kimchi sesame steak rice bowl - and when I asked if the guy needed my name, or was going to hand me a numbered ticket (like the Thai cart down the block), he said not to worry. I waited another ten minutes, and sure enough when my food was ready, he easily picked me out of the crowd of people waiting. Since he understood this was my first time, he also explained to me the two sauces he was giving me on the side. An hour later, I'm blown away. Relatively high-quality steak (and a decent amount of it) at a food truck for $9 (don't forget to tip). Fresh lettuce and a few shredded veggies. Outstanding kimchi. Short Version: GET THE KIMCHI SESAME STEAK! Be prepared to wait a minimum 10 minutes during rush hour. Prices range from $8-10. Would definitely recommend! Out of all the food trucks I have been to this was the longest I have ever had to wait. My expectations were definitely high after having to wait over 30 minutes just to order and another 10-20 waiting for the food. I got the basil steak and chicken Manchuria combo for 10$. The portions were generous - they gave me a lot of meat. The taste wasn't out of this world and in my opinion not worth the time I spent waiting. The chicken was a real let down, tasting like orange chicken you can get at a cheap Chinese take out restaurant. The basil steak was tasty and juicy though. I enjoyed the steak a lot more but sadly I got more chicken than steak. I definitely recommend the basil steak but don't visit during your lunch hour or you'll be waiting for almost an hour. The workers were really friendly and although there was no combo listed on the truck, allowed me to order one. They're also generous with their sauces and food portions. The main reason they're losing a star is the chicken and secondly the wait time. Update: I decided to give this play another taste and I have got to give it another star. I REAAAALLLLY want to like this place because the food is absolutely delicious and it is the best affordable food that I've had in Midtown but.. I waited almost an hour and thirty minutes for my meal so.. I would love to try this place again but the line has definitely scarred me. This place was kind of difficult to find since the Yelp address is misleading. It's in front of a chase bank located on 50th street between 6th and 7th avenue. There's a whole row of food trucks here, and the line for Steak Freak is always the longest so.. it's difficult to miss. As I mentioned early, I was on this line for practically an hour and a half since they only take 3 orders at a time and when people begin ordering more than one plate for themselves the wait is extended even more. Their system of ordering really needs to be improved, the guy in the front memorizes them.. when it would be much more efficient to write it down or as others have said, give out a number. It takes a little bit for the food to be prepared, probably 10 minutes after you've ordered. I guess it's my fault because I got here around 1:15pm, just in time for the lunch rush. The food itself is delicious and goes well with the spicy mayo and white sauce that they give you. The meat is a little rough and overcooked but not a dealbreaker. The cheapest tasty and balanced meal available Midtown West. That sentence merits 4 stars. To be honest, I could nitpick the food. The rice is just rice. The "salad" fresh and edible iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and yellow tinged red tomatoes (also available at carts charging nearly double the price). Fries are above average in terms of flavor and crispness. The two meats I had were nicely marinated, appropriately cooked and with only a hint of in chewable fat. The portions are generous. I feel good about the calories I consume from this cart, I have not Ben tempted to visit another cart on my way back to the office. So far, you don't have to wait on line. I've tried the Chili Lime Beef ($8) and the Chimichuri Beef ($10). Both are good, but the Chili Lime has a better zing to it. It's a decent portion and the salad tastes good too. The rice to meat could be better but only because there is so much beef that it needs more rice! The only real negative thing is that the guy needs to stop taking cash with his gloved hand and then using same hand to put the salad onto the plate. I was craving fries this week (seems to happen at least once a week now) and this was actually the first result that came up when I searched for "fries" around my office. I had stumbled upon Steak Freak's page several times but had always just been too lazy to go hunt down where it was located. However, since I really didn't want to succumb to a round of Mickey D's fries and the weather was decent that day, I made the trek out. Having read the reviews, I knew that I would likely have to wait for some time, but I actually didn't realize how long it would take (I went out around 12:15/12:20). Basically, you give your order and wait (no payment at time of ordering, which threw me off for a moment; don't expect a number or anything either, but don't worry, they know who you are -- amazing!). Honestly, it would be nice if they had an online ordering system so you could go and pick it up, but not sure if I'm getting too high tech here. Also, they're cash only so don't forget your cash when you go. Since I was only craving fries, I was really tempted to just get the cajun fries. However, there was no way I was just going to buy a side of fries after waiting in line for so long, so I opted for the Steak Frites option. Can I just say that I never expected steak out of a truck to taste this good? Everything was very flavorful, and I hardly even needed to use the extra sauces that were provided on the side. I had only gotten through some of the fries before I had to go to a meeting (since the wait had surpassed the amount of time I expected to be out of the office) so I put it aside. When I got back, the fries had soaked some of the sauce from the steak, but it actually made it oddly tasty. Also, the steak was cooked at the perfect level of rareness for me (somewhere between medium rare to medium, I'd say?) which made me happy. On our last day in NY during lunch rush, we had the kimchi sesame steak. Amazing! And the customer service was great.

Their steak basil is amazing! The first time I had it was slightly better than the second time, but at least they are preparing everything fresh in the cart. My friend loves the steak with kimchi. Another friend who I brought wasn't too too crazy about the chimichurri steak but loved my steak basil. Long story short, I'd recommend this cart and highly recommend the steak basil. When I've been there, there haven't been long lines to order, most of the people standing around are just waiting for their food to be ready.
