Arrived around 11:55 AM on a Friday, was able to order right away and received my food in 8 minutes. Kimchi Sesame Steak plate was $13 and I was able to pay via Venmo. Shoutout to Dorjee for his incredible hospitality and ability to remember everyone's orders. The food was delicious and the portion was just right for the price. Will definitely be back for lunch!

Read great things so decided to try it. Long line though fast moving (lunch time), & there was a short - wait nothing ridiculous. The person taking orders was kind and patient with those before and me when I got my turn to order. Staple of Steak Frites was ordered and got it about 10 short minutes later. My steak was tuff almost too tough. Basically like gum. But, it may be due to having ordered it medium. I will try again and let them choose how to cook it. Otherwise, as with other reviews here, friendly and relatively quick service... & astonishing he is able to remember everyone's order and call out to you while looking at you. Amazing! I suspect the next time I go my steak will be better. I will update this review then.

"It's not gonna blow your mind, it's not gonna leave you unsatisfied, but what this dish *will do* is serve as a benchmark for future foodcart food." $13 for steak over rice with delicious and aromatic sauce and steak tenderness and texture that even beats out low quality steak houses is AMAZING. This is my favorite food cart granted there's never much of a line for how delicious it is. You'll feel like you've got every penny's worth with the items served at Steak Freak. My favorite is the Steak Basil - the basil and peppers make for a nice aromatic flavor that helps cut and complement the juicy fattiness of the steak. The steak is honestly prepared so well that you can't even tell that it *might be* market bought grade steak. Overall, a well balanced food cart that's nothing short of outstanding. Been here so many times and will keep coming back.

Been going to this truck usually 2 times per week for the past 3 years (in good times and in bad)...and just realized that they're on Yelp. It's right off of 6th ave, westward on 50th - Mon thru Fri lunch only. I've tried mostly everything except for the noodles and I can say that the quality is very consistent, which keeps me going back. One of my favorites is the honey glazed chicken platter. The rice platters come with your choice of white or brown rice, a salad along with 2 types of sauces on the side (an herb/dill white sauce and a very lightly spiced french-type dressing). Note: there's only 1 type of salad dressing...a light vinaigrette-ish dressing which is just right..but you can add on the aforementioned sauces. The chunks of chicken are pretty big and the sauce is just sweet enough to contrast with the siracha, which you can request on the side. My favorite of all, which is in the pic, is the #2 sesame beef with kimchi, which you can request to leave out if you're not into kimchi The beef is sliced flank steak never overcooked and most times medium! It's never tough and most times has some slices with juicy fat left on. The marinade is a lightly sugared soy which, like the honey glazed chicken above, perfectly contrasts with the siracha sauce, which you can request if you like some spice. Imo, most food trucks don't come close to the level of taste and quality coming from Steakfreak...and, I might add, some restaurants too!

I got the Steak Basil with brown rice ($11), which comes with salad already. It is on the sweet side because of the sweet 'dressing' that they put over the meat. However, you can really taste the basil. I was on the fence between 4 and 5 stars, but for a filling lunch, this is great value so upped it to a 5. The food here leans into Asian/Chinese flavors - curious to try the chicken dishes, but the steak here was medium rare, tender, and flavorful.

This place gets 5 stars for the bang for the buck element. Look, this place isn't Peter Luger. It's a food truck. Not sure why anyone would expect getting some kind of dry aged beef action here. However, for what you pay for, you get some juicy, tender meat that is extremely generous in quantity IMO. Couple that with some rice and salad and you have a pretty solid lunch. The basil steak I tried was terrific. It was flavorful, juicy and worth the really reasonable price tag. The cajun fries were also great. Nicely fried, well seasoned (but not overwhelming) and you get a lot for the $3 you pay. In terms of value/bang for the buck = it's a no-brainer, for what you pay for you definitely get some serious amounts of grub that actually tastes solid. Again, this isn't some Michelin star steakhouse. It's a (way) above average food truck that does a fine job of cooking some flavorful meat! Great stuff and I was glad I was nearby to try it out. Will definitely return again when I'm in the area.

Steak Freak is an awesome food truck specializing in chopped steak and chicken rice bowls (as well as noodles, but past few times I've tried to order they weren't available). I've gotten the steak basil and kimchi sesame steak and either option does the trick for a tasty easy lunch. The bowls are $12 and comes with a good amount of food (rice, veggie salad slaw, meat) and white and orange sauces on side if you like. All in all, not much to say except that Steak Freak is one of the handful of solid, affordable, midtown weekday lunch options.

Really good value for a steak lunch around ~$12 each! We got the steak frites and basil steak. The basil steak was a little more interesting and had more flavor, though there was less steak. The steak frites was as you would expect and it comes with 2 dipping sauces for the fries. Good lunch if you're in the area!

Great food truck, we came during the lunch rush so had to wait a little while. Doesn't take card payment, only cash so I ended up having to zelle the guy! But the food was delicious! We had the kimchi sesame steak, honey chicken and chicken masala. The steak was very tender, loved the rice and salad. The bowls don't look that big but fit a good amount of food in them. I could pass on the honey chicken but the masala was very good, tender chicken, great sauce - rich, sweet.

I don't think you can find a better lunch spot than this place. For a hefty portion of steak and fries, at such a cheap price, I'd probably come here every day. The owner is a nice Asian man, very sweet. The steak can be the slightest bit bland but it's nothing that's going to stop me from coming here. I was so full half way through. You can split it into two meals. We went to go sit near the fountain, it was so nice. Go give this place a try.

I was listening to No Doubt Don't Speak And I had it on multi-repeat Not the biggest of crimes But it played 15 times Before my name was called by Steak Freak Long wait time, but the same could be said about trying to get a dinner-and-sex date with me (and I don't even do just dinner anymore so don't ask). My first food of the day came at a food truck which was pretty interesting. It's called Steak Freak (lol whatever) and it's really popular and has a very long wait time. The best thing about the place is the guy working here. He's super friendly and a good guy and no matter how many people are waiting he always remembers everyone's order and the order to serve them in. I liked him so I gave him a dollar tip even though the food was $9 which at the time I thought was a little crazy until I went down the street to Yumpling the dumpling place, and realized that Midtown food trucks be expensive and stingy as hell if they're not Halal Carts. Welcome to the modern era. I don't have a whole lot of good stuff to say about the food. The steak tasted okay but it probably should considering how people are raving about it. The salad wasn't bad. The rice was definitely the chalky not very professional kind. They said they had only brown rice left, and ew. Based on this, I don't think they should even be serving it. If it wasn't for the super friendly guy I probably give them three stars but it's not the most expensive food truck (while not being cheap) and they do put a lot of effort into it and the guy is incredibly nice so four stars is fine. The steak tastes good too... but not nearly as great as los reviewos suggestos.

Five stars for a food truck. My first time here today for lunch at the recommendation of a co-worker. I ordered the Chicken Manchurian with brown rice. This is not your typical sweet and sour chicken. This chicken has a nice tang and a lot of kick to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion size was quite large - abut five to six big chunks of chicken on top of a big bed of rice. The dish also comes with a bit of salad. They offer a white and red dressing sauce on the side - I quite liked the red sauce (a bit like a French thousand island spicy dressing). I will definitely go back as I would like to try the chicken Masala next time.

Got lucky and lines were pretty short around 12:30 on a Wed. The cart is on 50th street and 6th, on 50th going toward Times Square at the end of a row of a few other food carts. Ordered the Kimchi Sesame Steak ($9) and glad I did. Food didn't take much longer than any other cart to prepare, meat portion was large and delicious, not over cooked. You're also able to order them with brown rice instead of white. Kimchi was great also, and nice and spicy. Will definitely check out more stuff from here as I order them.

OH MY GOD this is by far my favorite food cart!! Yes the line is like 45 minutes but it is what it is. Delicious things require patience. I ordered the honey chicken and although it looked nothing like the picture on the food cart, it was still delicious and yummy and amazing and ya. I did notice that everyone seemed to be ordering the noodles so I definitely FOMOd out there, but guess what I'm getting this Friday...yuppp the noodles. If you could kindly all go when I'm not there so I don't have to wait forever, that would be great! :) read more

I've tried the sesame kimchi steak and basil steak - both equally delicious. The steak portions are generous, the steak is medium rare, tender, and perfectly cooked, the dishes are well-seasoned and very filling, the price ($11) is really reasonable for a midtown lunch. I think this food truck is a hidden gem. Cash only, ~20 minute wait time, steak dishes tend to run out quickly. read more

This is the best meal I've ever had from a food truck! Based on reviews, I avoided the 45min wait and planned a late lunch. I put my order in at 2:15pm and got it 13 minutes later. There was a steady stream of customers both before and after me. I ordered the half Manchurian chicken and half steak basil over brown rice. It costs a little more at $10 vs the usual $9 for steak alone or $8 for chicken, but it's so worth it. I liked being able to go back and forth between the two dishes because just one of the tastes would have been too much for me. I love the way they do their chicken - fried on the outside without heavy batter, in a sweet sauce. The steak is also delicious and the meat is not too chewy. They give a LOT of meat too. I ran out of rice early and still had a good 6 chunks of meat left. As for the salad that comes with the meal, I'm not sure if they dress it or it soaked in flavor from the meat, but the it was tasty! The guy manning the window was very polite and friendly. He must have a high stress job, so props to him for being so happy all day! read more

The first thing you noticed when you get on this block is like 7 or 8 food carts, but only two of them have really long lines (the other is the Lil Zeus Lunch Box cart), there is a reason for that, good food and great service. One of my favorite food trucks, the steak is surprisingly tender and is tastier then some of the pricier steak house I've been too. The wait is a little longer because they make everything to order but it's totally worth it. During the regular lunch hours around 12 to 2 is probably the worst in terms of wait time, so I like to go earlier if I can. read more

Tried the Steak Basil and Kimchi Sesame Steak and have to say the food is incredible. Not only is it only $10 but you get high quality ingredients at an insane value. Steak isn't over cooked or chewy every time. Definitely will recommend! read more

Very solid food cart! I was hoping to either get the Chimichurri steak over rice or Steak Frites however, they were not available. I ended up getting the basil steak over rice which was great! It was chopped up skirt steak that was marinated in some sore of basil sauce mixed with peppers. The steak itself was a little over cooked but it was very flavorful. Given that they are operating out of a cart, I think their menu may be a bit too ambitious. Their menu shows 9+ options and they ran out of 2 of the steak dishes at 11:45 am. They do have other meat options such as chicken but I feel they would fare much better if they strictly stuck to steak. The pricing is also fair, it was $8 for my dish. I will definitely have to give this cart another try, but I might have to show up at 10 am for a chance to get their more popular dishes. Edit: They just added an extra meat option for $1! I now feel like a true steak freak! read more

I think I've once again fallen victim to the hype. It's possible I just got a real doozie of a poor quality batch of meat, but I doubt it, because I've been there 3 times. I have had the Chicken Manchurian, the Steak Basil and the Teriyaki Noodles. The steak and chicken were both chewy and grizzly each time I ordered them. The noodles were lackluster. I was disappointed. I won't bother waiting on the lines to give their meat another whirl, I just feel it'll be wasted time and money. The only other time I tried to go, I really wanted cajun fries and saw that they offer them. They told me no problemo if I didn't mind waiting 20min. Wasn't worth it for me to stick around just for fries. Also, 20min? ..... Anyways, I guess either some people are cool with this quality meat, or I've had the worst possible luck. read more

Great quality food for very reasonable prices. This cart always has a long line so be sure to either come before 12 or after 2. The Chicken Manchurian is my favorite. I get it over white rice but you can also choose brown rice or noodles. It comes with a very tasty spicy mayo-type sauce and traditional white sauce. The meal itself is a perfect balance of rice, chicken and veggies. The guy who serves the food always does so with a smile and extreme attention to detail. Once you're a regular he knows your order. I will continue to recommend this place to my friends. read more

This is probably my favorite workday lunch food truck on "truck row" (on the north side of 50th St. between 7th Ave and Ave of the Americas - the Yelp address currently listed is incorrect). I've been frequenting this truck since late 2014 and love it! Line/Wait Time/CASH ONLY: If you go before 12PM, the wait time is short (~5-10min max) with only a few people in line. But any time between 12-1PM, expect to wait for 15-25 min+ because they draw a large lunch crowd (and deserving!). I will say the guys working in the truck are pretty efficient, so don't let the long lines dissuade you from waiting. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it's CASH ONLY but that's to be expected with a food truck. No gripes there. Food: I've had the Steak Basil Lime, Steak Chimichurri and Steak Frites; of the 3, my favorite and go-to is the Steak Basil (which is also their most popular, and rightly so). Of course the spotlight of the dish is on the steak which is well-marinated with a dark brown sauce that has the right amount of sweetness, and paired with the spicy mayo and white sauce that comes as a side it's even better. Alongside the steak are roasted green/red peppers that are perfect accompaniments. You also get a heaping mound of hot white rice with a side salad (lettuce and a sprinkle of purple cabbage). Sometimes I opt for extra rice instead of the salad if it's "that kind of day" which the truck guys are happy to accommodate w/o extra charge. It is a good amount of food for the price ($9). I wasn't crazy about the other two dishes. The Steak Chimichurri wasn't as flavorful as the steak basil and you basically just get two small plastic containers of Chimichurri sauce to pour on top. The steak in the Steak Frites is not marinated and I think is only seasoned with salt/pepper; for the price ($10) you're only getting 5 pieces of small steak strips and some fries - it wasn't as filling nor did it taste as good as the Steak Basil. Overall, I think this truck provides a super tasty, affordable lunch ($9 on avg per dish) in Midtown where the variety of lunch options is not the best. It's a nice respite from my usual, boring options I frequent in the area (i.e. Bocca, Cafe Duke, etc). read more

Don't Frite Out - Steak Frites er... Steak Freak is Here to Stay Food: 4 Stars Steak in the city? I had to check this out especially since the name is a play of the word Steak Frites (French word for Fries). First thing I will say is that, no you do not get a whole steak. You do receive a sizable portion of strips of medium cooked steak. The pepper/salt/spices are well distributed on the steak, while not perfect the flavor is still very tasty. For a food cart I am rather impressed at the quality of steak that is served. They exceeded my expectations. The best flavoring of steak (in my opinion) is the basil-lime. The combination of flavors works very well together. The rice is a good companion to the dish as well. If you want a classic go with the carts namesake Steak Frites. The overall dish is enjoyable. French fries compliment steak better than anything else. The salad is standard, but the heat from the steak/fries/rice makes it warm, which turns me away from eating it. My only "real" complaint is that the fries have a tendency to be over salted. Service/Speed: 3.75 Stars The service is quick and mostly precise. The system they have in place hasn't been perfected as of yet. They follow an honesty policy and rely on people remembering what they ordered and who ordered before them. Since some orders are more popular than others, they tend to repeat and people tend to jump the gun and grab it before they are supposed to. I believe if they implemented a name or number system any fallout of orders being given to the wrong person would mostly disappear. They have improved significantly from when I first tried them out over a month ago. They quickly ran out of food during the lunch rush because they were new and serving steak for great prices. I guess they grew quicker than they expected to. The wait to get food depends on the time you arrive. If you arrive anywhere between 12:15pm and 1:30pm expect to wait a good 15-20 minutes at minimum to order your food and wait for it to be cooked. Any time before and after those hours the wait time typically ranges between 5-10 (maybe 15) minutes to order and receive your food. The wait is worth it. Overall 4 Stars After a shaky start with lack of supplies and questionable service Steak Freak has become a force to be reckoned with when it comes to competing with other food cart and trucks out there. The majority of their steak dishes that I have tried are cooked to medium temperature (approximately). For a price range of $8 to $10, mostly being $8, you get one of the biggest bangs for your buck in midtown. I highly recommend checking Steak Freak out if you are in the area, the lines tend to get longer during the lunch rush, but due to their improved service wait times have been cut significantly. However, I still recommend you show up a little before or after lunch rush to cut down on the time. read more

I came for a short business trip to NY and as soon as I asked about food trucks, this was "the one". Now I understand why. The food is yummy! I didn't give it 5 stars because it was a little bit of a wait, but nothing outrageous. I will come back to try other dishes next time that in town! read more

This is the only food truck I go to at midtown, as my office is on the same block. I've tried the honey glazed chicken several times and also the steak basil, which is one of their most popular dishes. All items are around $8-$9! If you get there after 1:30 pm, there's a chance they will run out of it. It's always really tasty and the service is great. Just be aware that there are usually several people on line, so it could take 10 -15 minutes to get your order, as each order is made on the spot and 2 folks working the cart. Definitely, give this place a try if you're in the area! read more

I had no idea what the hell I felt like eating for lunch. I walked by this cart and it smelled really good so I decided to order the sesame kimchi steak and I was NOT disappointed. The man working in the cart was really nice. The steak was seasoned SO NICELY. Even the little salad that came in the food plate was decent dark-colored lettuce rather than that pale crappy iceberg lettuce you often see in cart/truck food. I will definitely eat here again, and will try some of the other dishes. read more

The line takes much longer than it looks like it will take!! Keep that in mind if you're on a lunch break, or go before noon when it's not as crowded. I only got to visit this truck once because I just don't have enough time to wait in line and I don't yet have an intern that I can send to get it. But it is still my favorite food truck around. Get the steak basil, it's awesome. A great blend of steak and Asian fusion sauces. The two guys working here really work hard and make amazing food, go check it out! read more

One of my favorite food trucks to hit up for lunch in Midtown. The food is consistently good and the service is always on point. There's always a huge line, especially during peak hours (12-2 pm), but the guys working in the truck are always quick and polite. I've had the Chicken Manchurian, Steak Basil, and Steak Chimichurri. My favorite is the Steak Basil. The steak is always well-seasoned and very flavorful, never overcooked and always juicy. Each entree is accompanied by white or brown rice and a side salad. For $8 or $9 in Midtown, you can't go wrong. Overall, this food truck is a great option for an affordable filling lunch in Midtown. read more

Genuinely surprised at how good this was. Alot of the items looked really interesting but I ordered the Kimche Steak initially. Soft rice that absorbs the sauce from the steak. Kimche was OK but still adds that Korean flavor. I even tossed in some roasted peanuts for that added crunch. Definitely going to try it again. The Machurian Chicken looked really good too. read more
