We place a mobile order that was supposed to be ready in 15 minutes, we showed up 20 minutes after placing the order because we know they are always slow here. Wouldn't you know it they have not even started to cook the order yet. Meanwhile there are 5 employees in the kitchen seemingly doing nothing. So my daughter was celebrating her art competition and felt for milkshakes so we dined in at Steak'nShake they also have a drive thru option. This restaurant has a 50's red, white and black pop shop theme with black and white checkered tiles, leather booths and neon lights. The waiters are wearing white button ups and black aprons and black bow ties. We're greeted at the door and seated with menus. We asked to move to another seat because were we sat and a stain on the table and the booth seat was greasy and needed to whip down. My daughter was indecisive on which burger to get the truffle mushroom or swiss cheddar burger so we got both and shared it half and half with fries and she ordered the very berry strawberry banana milkshake and I got chocolate. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the burgers were good cooked medium well. The fries are thin cut and crispy. And when it's time to pay you have to pay at the register. read more

I've grown accustomed to receiving horrible service at Steak n' Shakes many establishments, but damn, will they ever run a decent location? I don't choose to come to Steak n' Shakes unless it's where others want to go. Today we had a $10 gift card so we didn't want to waste it. Before starting this review keep in mind this can count for all the locations I've ever visited not just this one. Upon entering we see that the place has a decent amount of people, this is usual day or night unless it's very late night since they're open 24 hours. They take a while most times to sit you down full or not. When we were seated the server was "non existent." Everyone seemed like zombies except maybe one or two team members. We ordered a shake, side of fries, triple steak burger with fries, and a salad. The food is actually not bad because your paying so little for it. But there are times that the orders just don't come out right. I pay attention to what's happening around me wherever I go to eat and it's a recurring theme at Steak n' Shake. I don't know who to blame, the servers or the ones cooking. I asked for no cheese but got cheese, and of course was charged for it at the end. The food like everyone states usually takes forever to come. The shakes more than anything take forever to come. Expect to wait for whatever is ordered. The server does not return after taking your order only to drop off the food. And after that you have to flag them down. Less expensive than Burger King and McDonald's and definitely better quality. You can even get a fresh salad enough for two. Our server was very attentive and pleasant don't get that at Burger King or McDonald's sometimes anywhere. I would recommend the little deep cleaning outside and inside. read more

The food is always delicious and so are the shakes, but when I came here, it was an absolute mess. I went on a Friday night like 10:30 and my bf and I had an awful experience. We ordered quick and after 40 minutes we saw two tables who ordered after us get their shakes. I asked the waiter what was up with our order and he told us it got lost in the kitchen so we had to order agin. When he brought out the food, one of the fries we ordered were season fries so he had to get that fixed. THEN he brought out the shake... we ordered chocolate banana and you know what was brought out? CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER!!! Thank God we weren't allergic to peanut butter because a mess up like that can send someone to the hospital. After speaking to the manager about it, she removed the shake from the bill, but this was still an unpleasant visit. Onto the next Steak 'n Shake. read more

I am usually a fan of Steak 'n Shake.... however, this particular experience has been very disappointing. It took a long time to be seated, then we were told "sit anywhere." I grabbed my own menus and the paper car toy for my son. I then had to wipe my own table (although she did tell me to, "hang on I'll get it" - but was busy with another table). Then, it took 10 minutes to get service and this was after I grabbed a waitress because the table seated way after us got service and we didn't. Upon the waitress taking our order, the kitchen shouts that they were out of biscuits, which was the whole reason we came here (because I promised my son a biscuit for breakfast). My first time at this place...never going back! 1st, the place smells like they just mop the floor with a dirty mop. 2nd, after 40 minutes we got our shakes. They were delicious, but after 40 minutes I think almost anything would taste good. We ask for napkins and he totally forgot. Lunch with Granddaughter before hair and nails. Arrived before lunch rush, tables were dirty, had to wait for one to be cleaned. Several servers in a coffee clutch oblivious to arriving customers. The cheese on the patty melt was not melted therefore the bread was not toasted either, fries were dried out, the entire meal was inedible - if this is before the lunch rush - imagine during - stick to the shakes, go elsewhere for food. So disgusting. Used to come here all the time but now it has gone downhill. We stood waiting to be seated for ten minutes. Then when we were brought to our table, they were dirty with salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, etc. The bench had gum stuck to it, so we told our waitress and while my husband waited I went to the restroom (which had an overflowing trashcan and an out of order flooded stall). I returned from the restroom and we still stood waiting for another five minutes before she returned to remove the gum. After she cleaned it, the bench remained soaking wet and the tables dirty- at least the gum was gone. The lady sitting at the table behind us told us, "Good luck with your waitress. We've been waiting to put in our order for twenty minutes." So it wasn't just us... The sun was shining directly into my eyes so we closed the roll down blind, which was stained all over with who knows what. Our server too our order and she was polite, we asked for our shakes before our meal and we got them on time, which is unusual but appreciated. Our waters had flakes of some unknown brown and orange stuff floating around. The table beside us stayed dirty with plates from people long before from the time we came in until we left. The salt shaker was covered in rust, which was not an addition I wanted to add to my French fries. My Frisco melt had bright green stuff (?) on the bread in several places and luckily I checked the inside of the sandwich bc it was on the patty too! Ew. I was so ready to be out of there that I just ripped off about 1/5 of my sandwich. When we paid at the register, it was the manager who rang us up. I told him some of the complaints we had and he mumbled "sorry" and just wanted on to the next paying customer. Can't believe we spent $15, only thing deserved was the tip to our waitress. Oh, what a night! After a night of partying at Hard Rock, my friends and I had to refuel and Steak and Shake was the unanimous choice for the night. What separates this Steak and Shake from others is the super badazz server. He was manning down the fort by his lonesome and doing his thang. Serving customers and kicking out the loud mouth racist customer in the back. Truly a great server. It was especially great that a whole group had his back when the loudmouth challenged him. They helped chase the dude out and it was funny to see him get called out on his bluff. What was funnier a person from that group knocked milk shake only over himself in the scram. He came back with a goofy face saying.... "guys I think I need a napkin". Now to the food. The portobella steak burger hit the spot. I scarfed it down so fast I do not remember eating it. I don't understand how FAST food takes so long. The drive thru takes about 5/10 min just for 3 sliders and if they're taking too long they ask you to pull forward and wait meanwhile 2 cars that were behind u get their food and drive off. If they ask you to pull forward I recommend you don't do that. The reason they do it is because there is a timer that counts how long each car is at the window. management looks at this info at the end of the week. So when they ask you to pull forward it's just to cover their asses. DONT DO IT Going inside is no better. You wait 10 minutes to be seated another 10 to be greeted and to take your drink order another 5 to get that drink and hopefully take your order then about 40 min to an hour to actually get your food. I ordered a chili dog and was told they're out of chili. Isnt chili one of the things they're known for? No ketchup on the table. Hubs was given his shake, too thick to use the straw, but no spoon and we haven't seen our server in a while. I can't review the food because yep, we're still waiting for it. I stopped in at around 1am on a Thursday morning. They were busy and in my opinion, 1 or 2 people under staffed. The employees were working hard but you can tell they were stressed. All three of them were trying hard to smile and greet you appropriately...when ours came over...I can barely hear what he was saying...something along the lines of "welcome to steak and shake can I take your order?"...poor kid, he was doing the best he could and he did well. The food was out pretty quickly and it tasted pretty darn good so no compliants other then one additional person to work overnight, it might make sense. Hubby and I went there today, at 1pm. It was very crowded, as expected, and yes, it did take a bit to get our food. But the burger was well worth the wait. The staff were working their butts off, I have nothing but respect for those women and men that work the floor. As crowded as it was, no one lost patience or was rude. Hell, we had a great double steak burger each, with cheese, and fries and a water and iced tea for a grand total of $10.86. I went through the drive thru this morning and there was an older African American woman with gold teeth working the window. She was very rude and had a very bad attitude. I ordered a #4 with everything with light mustard and was told there was no button for light mustard all I asked was could she ask the person making my order to add light mustard. Today was our first time experiencing Steak N Shake and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were seated immediately & then Monica came over to take our order. Monica was very personable, sweet, attentive & very accommodating. Monica brought out water to us right away while we were waiting for our shake to come out. It was very BUSY time when we went at 3:00. We waited awhile for the food, however we didn't mind waiting. They let us know our food would be coming out shortly. Levi brought our food out & he was very sweet & friendly. Kudos to the cooks, our food was delicious. Coleslaw was excellent. The shake was... YUMMY. Can we say drunk munchy food on the way home after a long a$$ night of drinking, gambling, and dancing at the hard rock? Yeah this is the only time I frequent steak n shake, drunk and sleepy-the food puts me right to sleep. My once in a blue moon stop on a sober day is about once every 6 months or so. Beware of the insanely long drive thru night at 3:00AM on the weekends, I have fallen asleep here as I patiently sit in the car waiting for the food. I know Steak 'n Shake takes longer than normal fast food drive thru's but that is ridiculous. Finally got my food and went home and started eating it. Mid way thru found a long brunette hair (I'm bleach blonde) inside my Frisco melt. Started to pull it out and realized it was embedded in between the meat and cheese and actually sooo disgustingly long and couldn't even pull the rest out because it was so stuck. Go here for a milkshake if you are on the go and craving one. My faves are egg nog, caramel apple, and chocolate peppermint. Go here for a cherry limeade - lite ice extra lime. Otherwise it is so packed full of ice you barely have any drink! Go here for the patty melt if you don't mind spending your daily caloric intake on one burger. It's good, in that once a month greasycheesybeefyyumminess hit the toilet 10 minutes later kinda good. Don't get the fries. They are so thin that they are cold by the time they get to the table.
