Love this place! First time I had Steak N Shake was in Indy. I have been craving this place since then, but the closest one to me is in Cypress and that's not exactly close to home.. My friends and I came here for breakfast in January and had a fun time eating breakfast and warming up before walking back to the Marriott in the snow/freezing cold. I thought it was an awesome deal..pancakes, hashbrowns, 2 eggs, and steakburger patties + hot chocolate = perfect. They also have 4 deals for under $4. (Single, Double, or Triple Steakburger w/ Fries, or Chicken fingers w/ fries for $3.99) It's close to a lot of hotels and open 24 hours, so it's convenient for those from out-of-town. I like this location; it's is located smack downtown and is open 24 hours. It can get busy at times because of tourists and convention people, but it is a great place to people watch. The staff works hard to accommodate and the food makes it out rather quickly. Has a T.V. above the bar to watch sports, but the volume is off. read more

She even brought our friend crackers and Sprite when he was throwing up in the bathroom... Serious love goes out to the people who work at this steak and shake, specifically weekend nights. Also chicken strips and fries have saved my life more than once. I suggest never eating what falls on to the table, and one time there was poop on the floor of the women's restroom.. I went to this restaurant for lunch. All I could eat was a piece of grilled chicken without the bun or french fries. Their drinks, however, are amazing. I have never had a Diet Vanilla Coke that tasted so good. The service at this particular Steak 'n Shake was wonderful. I arrived at a peak time for lunch as was seated right away. The employee even asked me what section of the restaurant I would like to sit at. Our waitress was quick and efficient. I guess the reason why I gave this restaurant 2/5 stars is because of their lack of menu options for someone with a limited diet. I wish this restaurant accommodated more allergies. Also, my friend ordered a cheeseburger, which was covered in disgusting butter and grease. If you care about your health, do not eat here. read more

If I ever wanted my picture on the wall of a restaurant, Steak and Shake on Maryland would have 50 signed selfies of me eating one of everything multiplied by at least two! Seriously. I can't get enough of this place! In fact, they restored my faith in steak n' shake after staying away for years. I used to work at one in college, and that was hardly as good as this location. Go late night, or early morning... The late night menu is for those out here with true grit. It reminds me of something you stumble on at a local place at 3am. A seven layered burger, breakfast skillets loaded with chili, or mini sliders to stack and smash. The everyday $4 menu is also a win. In fact, you can't go wrong with the options available for either menu. Now and then, I have some mess ups with my order. Dorothy, Scott, Amber, and Kayla go above and beyond to make things right. That says volumes about the service they are giving. Gone are the days of crabby coffee pouring wait staff that came with all day diners. Steak n Shake is modern, clean, fun (upbeat music and energetic atmosphere), has excellent food, and wonderful service! They are open 24 marvelous hours, so do not be late! Before I start, I should say I generally like Steak n Shake food. I like the diner feel and its usually fairly quick. I haven't really been thrilled with the overall service at this location. Usually not very fast and usually not that friendly. That could be that we normally drop in late at night when other places are closed. Another thing you'll have at this location is people sitting outside asking you for money. This happens all day at this location. We offered to pick up some food but they weren't interested. Then when we came back out the people were very loudly arguing with each other. You'll also notice on weekends when kids are kicked out of the mall there will be a ton of kids in front of the store (& several police officers directing them). Restaurant was clean, food is cheap, service was ok...Food was good though! But the location isn't that great. read more

I rate this with 2 stars because I ordered 2 oreo shakes and when they came to my door, I had plain ice cream. There was a tiny sprinkle of oreo on top, but everything else was just vanilla! What was there tasted ok, but I want to spend my money on an oreo shake and not vanilla ice cream. But I've been to your restaurant, and everything else has always been great. Apparently its THE place to go out in the Midwest so had to stop by at least for a shake. They have a ton of monstrous shakes and its no wonder why the Midwest is not known for being healthy. It's location and hours make it an attractive option to continue the night. Depending on the night and time that you go, you could either just walk right in and get a seat or you might have to wait. There are usually two of the cities finest offices stationed there to keep everything inline. The service is generally good and pretty quick considering how crowded and how staffed they are. I have to give everyone who works the late shift props because working with the after bar crowd can be annoying and challenging as I can attest to past experience. This is a typical Steak 'n Shake and serves the standard fare. It is not gluten free by any means, including the milk shake as it is a share machine and is a cross contamination nightmare. read more

Okay I think visiting ANY Steak 'n Shake is a must whenever I have the opportunity. It is by far one of my absolute favourite milkshake and burger locations to visit in the entire United States. This particular location can be a mighty busy one -- partially because of the proximity to the Convention center and all the conventions that are held here but also because it is downtown and there is simply a good population density in this area as a result. This particular location is clean and efficiently run. I loved the nutella milkshake on my most recent visit and enjoyed a burger that had egg on it with my fries. I'm not terribly fond of Steak 'n Shake fries in general so I got these ones seasoned and they were a bit salty as a result. Still all was delicious and well worth eating. Additionally Steak 'n Shake is extremely affordable meaning that it is the right combination of delicious and price for a fast food joint. This location has become much safer-feeling over the past decade or so and is really worth a visit. read more

In town for a conference. Let me preface this review by saying. I ate there quite a bit, mostly due to the price. First day service was mediocre at best. The next day we were greeted by Rachael. Turned our view around. Attentive engaging and just plain awesome. She was a stark contrast to the other severs who while we were overheard grumbling about people not leaving them tips that were what they thought they should have left. The good: One of the better 'fast food' chains - decent quality food and actually have avocado in their salads. Not the quality/quantity of the more upscale burger places, but of for the price - well worth it. The bad: For years this location though has a long history of getting "to go" orders wrong for us, so check your orders every time before you go. They were 0-2 this past weekend on our orders - which was not unexpected given our past history there, we actually set expectations when picking up an order for multiple people that it will likely take a while as they will need to re-make something. When you think fast food you usually imagine frozen and fried, low cost, and not a memorable experience. However, that is the opposite at SteakNShake as they deliver fresh and friendly with a memorable experience that keeps bringing regulars and newcomers to their restaurants nationwide. I always love seeing the chefs cooking on the hot griddles. Instead of receiving your food in one minute, it usually takes 7-10 minutes and comes out hot and fresh. I enjoyed this meal in Indianapolis and got friendly service from Brenda Baird and Tavaress. Brenda was so kind and you can tell she loves her job and feeding happy diners. My colleague joined me for brunch and we ordered a little bit of everything burgers, pancakes and French toast sticks. I had to go with a burger well because you need to get a steak burger! like a 1800s Saloon without smoke & Alcohol (well, Not Served there)(but located across the street from Circle Center @ Maryland & Illinois) It's 3:30AM, in the midst of Late Night Post bar hopping skirt watchers & a few street drifters (like us), we were greeted & seated by Night Manager Dorothy (reminds me of Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke, she runs the place!) seated in Bob's Section (it's where you want to be) Bob M is The BEST, he's fast & friendly & patient (@ 4 in the morning, that's Amazing for anyone) he's #1 in our book. we were hungry for Frisco Melts, the best thing between white bread, my daughter used to call me from Phoenix & wish for a Frisco Melt, (No i can't FedEx one), it was the first meal she had when she came back into town our cowboy (in polos) dinner guests across the aisle were Loud & Hungry & said that i was the first person they'd seen put cottage cheese in (my) chili (with Extra Chili Beef) & kept telling me in 2 days i was going to feel the Pain of all the peppers i was consuming, Dorothy informed me, nicely, that i could take home a bottle of Pepper Sauce for $1.79 plus tax(peppers included, you know those little greenish ones, that i use as a condiment) i did take one home!! Bob served my Hot Fudge sundae in a bowl as requested, those tall glasses are just to deep for me to dig into. after Bob served the 2 wranglers next to us, i've never heard silence like that before, but they ended chanting what we always say BOB IS THE BEST!!! The experience was awful. Our server took our order and then forgot to input it into their system, it then took 22 minutes for her to realize it wasn't put in. She took our order again and then it took another 40 minutes to get our food. Yes it was a little busy however there were at least 5 other tables that were sat, orders taken, and then received their food all before us. We watched them come in at least a half hour after we were seated. When we finally attempted to pay their network went down and the manager proceeded to tell us it happens all the time and she has had to comp many orders because of network failure but refused to comp our order and made us wait until the network came back or we paid cash.
