While staying the area for business a few of us came here one evening for burgers.... Service was nice, the place was clean. Food was made fresh and hot pretty quickly and the burger tasted great. The fries were really good and so were the onion rings. Definitely worth stopping in for a burger and fries!

Ordered two shakes and the cost was $12-13. On the high side. But they were also fairly large more than I needed The grill master was busting his hump and working hard Place seemed to be fairly staffed and it did not seem that busy for its size yet we waited 10 minutes which is too long for two shakes. I am not impressed with their bandwidth for preparing shakes considering shake is in their name. All the patrons seemed content with the experience One thing that was particularly nice was kiosk stations. I think there were 3-5 , plenty. And the kiosks were easy to use

I'm honestly surprised by the reviews of this location cause when I went I had a very pleasant experience. All of the workers were incredibly kind, welcoming me and asking how I am; no idea what these other people experienced but I can 100% say the workers are NOT rude. I ordered a single patty burger, fries and a Reese's chocolate shake. The burger was just ok for me but definitely not terrible. I think I just didn't like the pepper taste it had. Fries were delicious. That shake tho!!!!!!! OMFG YES!!!!!! If I could marry that shake, I would. It was thick and creamy and tasted like heaven. Lots of love went into making it. I sadly don't have a Steak 'n Shake where I live and I wanna cry. Will 100% go back to this location if I'm ever in the area again.

I was gonna give this place a bad review, but because the manager on duty was so wonderful and the one employee was so great. I'm gonna give them more stars. My order never came back to the kitchen so we had to wait a while and then when we asked the nice gentleman where was our food was he looked into it and then told his manager that our order never came out. They had a computer problem. So He hurried and made our order and the wonderful manager refunded us our money back and gave us the food. Because how wonderful those two were we will come back. I do have to admit it was very clean inside there. I was very impressed with that.

I laughed though because the bar was playing The Muppet Show on the TV. lol The dinner menu is expensive so I went for brunch. (I believe their brunch is from 10am-2pm on Saturday and Sunday.) I ordered brisket hash (crispy potatoes, cheddar cheese, braised brisket, chimichurri, eggs, toast) and it was outstanding, although expensive at $24. My server was wonderful - just a delightful soul. The customers at the table next to me ordered chicken and waffles and their food looked amazing.

The main floor dining like a lunch vibe, but it turned out to be a cozy choice. For appetizers, we started with the cornbread after our focaccia was unfortunately not the best. Seemed to be over-proofed. The cornbread was absolutely phenomenal and a must-have! A special shoutout to our waitress, Arya, who noticed our disappointment with the focaccia and generously brought us the cornbread on the house. That kind of service is truly memorable! I also had the beets and peaches salad, which was refreshing but a tad overdressed. Still, I couldn't resist finishing the entire dish. For my main course, I ordered the lasagna, and I can confidently say it was one of the best I've ever had. It wasn't overloaded with cheese and instead complemented by mushrooms and pesto, and surprisingly light on the stomach. My husband chose the filet and rated it an 8/10, saying he thoroughly enjoyed it. We were so full by the end that we skipped dessert. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful, and the staff was incredibly attentive throughout our meal. The only downside was the atmosphere; coming from Chicago, we expected a more bustling vibe on a Thursday night. It seems Indianapolis is a bit quieter during the week. Overall, we had a delightful dining experience, and hats off to Arya for her exceptional service!

The restaurant features an extensive drink menu that will suite anyone's pallet. We chose to start with the bread service which was killer especially the honey butter. All of the apps look d amazing but went for the dry rub duck wings with home made ranch. My only critic was I wish there were more than 3. Finished off with the shrimp and grits. Although, I wasn't in New Orleans the spiciness took me back there. The wait staff was great. Even though we were late for the reservation we were seated promptly and had multiple people taking care of us. Spoke & Steele is a must if you are staying in the hotel but also if you want a cool vibe for drinks and great food I would stop by and take a look.

The seating? Intimate. The lighting? Soft. The whole space feels like a quiet luxury moment tucked right into the city. Now let's talk about what REALLY matters, the food. The shrimp & grits??? Listen... this wasn't just a dish, this was an EXPERIENCE. The grits were creamy, smooth, and perfectly rich, but that sauce layered on top?? Whew. Flavor on flavor on flavor. You've got that deep, savory, slightly smoky profile with juicy shrimp, sausage, and those pickled onions cutting through everything with the perfect tang. Every bite felt intentional. Like somebody knew what they were doing in that kitchen. And can we talk about how beautiful it was plated?? Because yes, I absolutely appreciated the aesthetics before I even picked up my fork. Paired it with a simple coffee moment, sitting by the window, and honestly... it felt like a reset. Not rushed, not loud, just good food, good atmosphere, and a chance to actually enjoy it. If you're looking for a brunch spot that feels a little more elevated, a little more intentional, and delivers on both flavor and experience. This is it. 10/10. I'll absolutely be back!!!

Plus, they had a few vegan choices for me (highly caloric, not super healthy, but still, they had more than one choice, and vegan offerings that weren't salads). They even had three tasty mocktails and some alcohol-free beers (since I don't do booze anymore either)! The veggie burger came with a squishy bean patty, with peas in it -- not my fave texture or flavor but tolerable -- and a tahini sauce... but they barely put any sauce on it. A gourmet, no-high-fructose-corn-syrup ketchup or tomato jam might have been better, or at least more of the tahini. It did come with a nice pile o' crunchy pickles (love) and a lovely green salad with balsamic dressing (way too many carrots). Service was fast and friendly. Ambience is upscale bar, with fun and interesting murals on the walls -- they had a terrific music playlist going, and the Hubbins and I ended up kind of dancing in place without realizing it. Public parking lot directly across the street meant we didn't get soaked by the rainstorm, and didn't have to drive around forever dealing with construction, looking for a parking spot. A nice, easy option for dinner with the fam without having to work/think too hard about it -- something to suit all of our varied diets.

The Brussels sprouts are an absolute triumph: perfectly blistered with a caramelized exterior and tender interior, dressed in a harmonious balance of bright acidity and savory depth. Little crunchy bits and a subtle smoky char add texture, while a finishing sprinkle (and a hint of something sweet-salty) elevates them from simple side to a show-stealer. The Korean salmon is equally impressive. The fish arrives flaky and moist with a richly glazed crust that carries sweet, spicy, and umami notes in perfect proportion. Layers of flavor -- gochujang-forward heat, sesame brightness, and a touch of citrus -- play against the salmon's natural richness without overpowering it. It's plated thoughtfully, with complementary sides that keep each bite balanced. If you're at Big Lug Canteen, don't pass up those two dishes -- they demonstrate skilled technique, bold yet nuanced seasoning, and a real sense of care in the kitchen. Great food, relaxed atmosphere, solid value. Highly recommended.
