We came on a Saturday morning around 9 AM and the breakfast rush caused a 30 minute wait for our party of 5 burritos. The burritos came out not as crispy or grilled as we wished because the wrong person was on the grill. Our food came all together and they have a good selection of coffees though! read more

Hmmm, maybe she should be fired because she will scare the customers away. She was super slow, the line to put your order in went outside and wrapped around the building. The food was literally amazing. We ordered a Bagel with eggs, cheese and avocado and everything was perfect. The granola and the fruit salad were also fantastic. The staff was friendly and the seating area really nice and comfortable. The coffee and smoothie were very good too so all in all the food was perfect. First time here, but so far so good. The #1 thing I had to check on was how they decaffeinate their coffee, as my partner reacts to the chemical used in that process. But good news, they use the water process. And given the time we stopped by (~5pm), I also ordered the decaf, and am glad to say theirs tastes just fine. They also serve breakfast all day, and have a lunch menu, so we'll be stopping back some time to check up on their food. We've passed by this place numerous times and finally we stopped in on a Sunday morning. I was impressed by the variety of coffee options, blended beverages, smoothies and a decent breakfast menu! Their prices are also really good for the area! My husband got the pigs in a waffle and it was awesome - served with strawberries (see picture - YUM)! The espresso drinks were delicious too! Out little guy loved the little kids play corner with a play kitchen and some toys - such a nice little touch and kept him busy so we could enjoy our coffee. That is priceless, my friends. They also have about 4 small tables outside on the sidewalk and a good amount of tables on the inside - it looks smaller than it is. We will be back - maybe for lunch next time! read more

I get it's hard to find employees these days .. but your barista today was not friendly at all. She made my drink wrong , ordered a Flat white, she made a Cappuccino. when I asked if she could add more liquid she looked super put out and pissed off. This is awful customer service. I should really ask for drink to be remade completely like a proper flat white but couldn't be bothered. Will not return. read more

My boyfriend and I were staying in Shell Beach for 3 nights and we came here every morning of our stay. We tried their smoothies, scrambles, oatmeal and breakfast burrito and enjoyed everything. I'd had a rough day today and decided to go for a walk when I passed steaming bean. It looked very cute from the outside and the door was propped wide open so I walked in and up to the counter. The girl working, a younger brunette girl with lighter eyes (and I think a piercing?) was sweeping behind the counter. She looked directly at me and I smiled and said hello. She glowered at me for a moment, didn't say a word, looked up at the clock on the wall (it was 3:51pm) and then turned her back to me and continued sweeping. I was confused so I stood there for almost a full minute waiting for her to turn back around or say anything to me. I wondered if they must be closed already and looked for their hours on the window, which were until 4pm today. I stood there for another while longer and she continued to sweep silently with her back to me. We were the only two people in there. She never acknowledged me and I eventually just walked out. It was a real bummer of an interaction, especially after a hard day when I was excited to try this cute place as a treat at the end of it. Won't be trying again, they're much kinder at the Starbucks down the road. read more

I'm a student at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and despite the numerous coffee shops in SLO The Steaming Bean is my favorite place to be. The coffee is good, the food is great, but the PEOPLE are FANTASTIC. I have yet to come here and not be asked how my day is going, what my major is, or how I like San Luis Obispo. The staff is extremely friendly and the customers are too - which is SO refreshing when you think about the typical, indifferent and rude cliental attracted to most coffee shops in SLO. This place feels like home to me. As far as logistics go, The Steaming Bean has lots of seating - big tables - most tables have outlets - and this is fantastic for anyone who wants a comfortable place to study. Whether you're visiting or a local, I highly recommend The Steaming Bean if you're looking for coffee (or food - I've had the burritos, scrambles and waffle and all are amazing) and a free smile (or two). :) read more

Nice walk from our hotel to breakfast. The vanilla bean coffee was amazing it's one of their specials . So creamy and good . We shared the breakfast burrito with bacon it had fresh salsa and the tortilla was toasted nicely eggs prefect. We also had a bowl of the fresh fruit which had blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, apple and bananas. This place is very good . After heading to our favorite spot to find that is was closed, we headed over here. Very good food, very fresh. I had coffee that I must say it's one of the best coffees I have ever tasted. The steaming bean was good but didn't wow me unfortunately the coffee was pretty good. I ordered a mexican mocha as well and I was quite impressed it was really sweet and had the perfect amount of sweetness and quality of coffee. I ordered a waffle with berries and t was amazing they weren't skimpy with the berries they were very generous and I also ordered the oatmeal and it was so good some of the best oatmeal I've had desiring cinnamon and blackberries and strawberries and blueberries that were fresh. Waffle was freshly made and was pretty tasty. The main reason that they don't deserve a 5 star is the service took so long we had to wait 30 minutes between meals coming out and multiple customers got their food before us. That really disappointed us but other than that it was good but service needs to improve!! read more

Loved them before renovations and now they are even better! Love the new sleek matte black look. This store is great for a morning pick me up whether you need caffeine or some light breakfast food. The breakfast burrito is delicious and so is the Mediterranean bagel, pictured. My favorite drink is the Milk Way blended espresso drink - it had caramel and mocha flavors all in one. The Steaming Bean is a cute little coffee shop near the ocean. I love its ambiance. You will find locals reading their newspapers, playing cards, and enjoying one of the many specialty drinks that they make here. My husband enjoys their breakfast burrito. I am working my way down the list of their specialty drinks and have enjoyed what I've tried so far. I like their yummy pastries, too! There can be a lengthy wait depending on how crowded it is. The staff is incredibly friendly and this makes up for it. There's seating outside, too, where you'll find a cute little basket with blankets and seat cushions, which I really appreciate. There's street parking and I've never had a hard time finding a spot, even when it is crowded. It's a cute little treasure of a place and we really enjoy it! read more
