Food: Salty everything!!! First they served us soup, holly cow it was like drinking salt. Then they cooked shrimp and fried rice in front of us, they tasted nothing but the sauce, tanks for letting me know how teriyaki sauce tastes like, literally you couldn't tell the difference from shrimp and scallops, because they were all buried in that salty sauce. In addition, the rice they served me is half raw... Service: My husband is allergic to dairy, the chef told us he couldn't do that, he has to make all the food together for the table. Apparently this was a trouble for him, he showed us cold face cooking in front of us all the time, I mean only to us, not the rest. Like how dare us to be allergic to dairy products. We also asked a few questions about what the sauce is during the dinner, but he just kept silence, and answered us after 5 seconds reluctantly. Making us so uncomfortable,this is a horribly dining experience. Seriously, I suggest people go to China or Japan if you want such dining experience, they have much better service and food. I made a Saturday Night reservation 2 weeks in advance and we waited 40 minutes to be seated. Our food + hibachi man was great. But then we waited 25 minutes for our checks. We missed almost our entire dance! After checking in I asked why our wait was so long and the hostess said it was because they sat walk-in tables before we got there. Fun times for the most part. Our group of 7 dined in the habachi section of this location. We had 30 minute wait in a very cold and overly full lobby, despite having a reservation. Not a good start, but ok. We were seated with a party of 3 since all habachi tables have 10 guests. The menu selection was limited and the servers were slow/ not very attentive. They didn't bring out my appetizer until I flagged someone down when we were nearly finished with the experience. The habachi chef was fun and had some cool tricks to keep the table entertained. The seasoning on the food could have been amped up a bit in my opinion. Overall, it was a pretty good time. We stopped here for lunch around noon on a Thursday. The place was only moderately busy and smelled delicious. I glanced over the menu and realized that several vegetarian options are available, including vegetarian sushi, and dishes you wouldn't normally find as a vegetarian option. We were a bit disappointed by the appetizer menu. The only vegetarian option on it is edamame and a cucumber and tomato salad. The spring rolls and dumplings have vegetables AND chicken, not OR chicken... we even asked if it was possible to have them minus the chicken, but the waiter inquired with the kitchen, and apparently this isn't an option. There are also a couple of vegetarian soups such as miso, but I didn't try any. We skipped the appetizer and I ordered kung pao vegetables with brown rice. My girlfriend had the coconut curry vegetables with white rice. The entrees came out quickly from the kitchen. Both dishes were filled with fresh vegetables, lightly sauteed, and with just the right amount of crunch. I devoured my entree in no time because it was great. My girlfriend's curry was also yummy. This is the kind of place I could easily give five stars if they were a little more flexible with adding or subtracting meat from certain dishes. We did the dining side and not the habaci side. This dining experience started out like warm. The host/hostess needs to realize that they set the first impression and it was less than a pleasant experience. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a seat in a dining room area that wasn't busy. I then had to use the restroom where there were some kind of air freshener devices on top of the toilet that were tacky. It made me question whether or not I wanted to still eat here or leave. We ordered the calamari that came out clumped up and tasted like rubber bands. It was so terrible we sent it back for spring rolls. In all fairness, the rest of the meal was alright. Our server was pleasant and attentive. She took the calamari off the bill but a manager didn't come over to talk to us. I had the combo fried rice and my friend had the BMW rolls. They were alright The price of the meal came out to be about $40 and it was about $15 too high for the quality. The bus boys also made so much noise cleaning tables that we thought they were going to break the dishes. This place has potential to be much better but they need to fix some things. read more

Had some Nigiri and the portions were super generous!!! Yellowtail and Salmon were my favorites. My boyfriend and I headed here with another couple for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived around 6:00 pm and had a small wait (~20 min) for Hibachi. I did like their waiting area since it had the bar in the open waiting area. The Hibachi table where we sat had a really bad draft and was cold! We could not wait for the flames to start! I decided to just get sushi while everyone else had Hibachi. Of course they put on a good show. What place like this doesn't!?! On to the food...overall, disappointing! The sushi was ok, not bad, just ok. I ordered two rolls and they just didn't have much flavor (one had jalapeno in it and the other eel sauce). The Hibachi, sure they gave a ton of rice and vegetables, but it really lacked flavor. I ate a piece of shrimp and some vegetables from my boyfriend's plate but it really lacked flavor. He normally likes and eats everything without a complaint but he even said this one wasn't that great. The only reason they got two stars is because the hostess was very nice and the server was prompt. I ordered a bowl of onion soup, a side salad with ginger dressing and a shrimp tempura roll. Onion soup: typical. Good taste. Missing the fried onion Salad: they use cheap iceberg lettuce and the ginger dressing was mixed with mayo. I'm guess that's the way they stretch it to get more product??? Roll: they did not use a freshly fried tempura shrimp. The roll was very cold. At the end the server came to collect for the bill. My bill came to $15.00. I gave her a twenty and she asked me if she should keep the change. Umm no sweetheart and this is why I'm taking back a star. You did nothing that spectacular to deserve a tip greater than 20% and the kitchen should have given me fresh shrimp. Not one that had been sitting for a while. This used to a regular place for my husband and I to go and eat at the bar at least 3 times a month. Sushi was consistently good. For birthdays and groups we would enjoy the hibachi. However a couple months ago they changed bartenders. They now have the bartender covering tables as well as drinks for the restaurant and serving the 8 top bar regardless of how full it is. This is my favorite Japanese Steakhouse in town! The service is quick and the portions are generous, enough food to bring home some leftovers, too! I highly recommend the California roll and the Shrimp Tempura rolls for sushi, our daughter loves the Edamame, too! They only charge $1 for fried rice and it is worth it! Rather than waiting for a table we first tried sitting at the sushi bar but moved over to the regular bar after about 5 minutes because not only did none of the sushi guys behind the counter acknowledge us, but the bar was gross! Not impressed. Our order was a whopping $75 for a meal I could have better prepared at home. Being we're in a hotel, staying in KC for work, a kitchen to indulge in a home cooked meal isn't an option. Our steak was prepared the way it was ordered though the chicken I paid an additional fee for was not included. The "hibachi" vegetables were carrots and broccoli; likely came from the frozen section at your local grocer and slightly warmed on a cooktop. My "Teriyaki Shrimp" was doused in a creamy sauce, not familiar to any teriyaki I've experience prior. Rice was just OK. Only experience with the customer service was them handing me my bag without a departure interaction. I can't say we had a bad customer service experience, though, especially for spending the amount we did, a well wish on the way out would've sufficed vs a more than casual dismissal. I'm not quick to give a poor review, and perhaps this is just how To Go orders are prepared...but we're really disappointed. The sushi is always very good but make sure to go during happy hour so it isn't as pricey. Was recently here to catch up with a friend who just got engaged. We went to the Hibachi area and expected a bigger crowd since we were there during the lunch hour. No one else joined our hibachi table and so we got a command performance. Our chef was so friendly and he made us feel special even though I'm sure he would have loved to ham it up for a larger crowd. Our company is close to the airport so I used to have to go all the way to The Plaza (downtown) to eat good sushi in Kona Grill, now I can just drive to Legends and get to Stix in no time because it is not traffic. Seeing as Topeka has some pretty slim-pickings for Thai food, Stix offers another option - without having to go all the way into Kansas City. We went on Mother's Day. It was quite busy but the service was still timely and the food was very tasty. Pleasant atmosphere too, although a bit noisy (bratty kids at the table next to us) but not too bad. The servings were gigantic and we ended up taking home enough to have as another meal. Topekans: If you're in the area and want to something you can't get at home, this is on the same quality level as Tuptim Thai, but with a different selection of menu options as well as a hibachi and sushi to boot. I am not a sushi fan, nor seafood. However, I had the crunchy (or crispy?) Shrimp roll and the veggie roll. I was especially fond of the veggie roll. I have only had sushi from the Hyvee in Mission, so Styx was a huge step up. My fiance and i shared the appetizer sampler, which included bang bang chicken (that was new, and so good) dumplings, and crab rangoon. by far, the best rangoon i have had. I then had the general chu with chicken. Crispy, moist, rice was cooked well. Flavorful with a spicy kick. We ended the night with dessert - the apple wontons! It was OK. Not very sweet, and wasn't warm at all. I think if they could work on the recipe a bit, it would be great. As of now, until i am to find another restaurant with even better sushi - this is my go-to place. Oh, i forgot about the egg drop soup. SO delicious. Really like the hibachi grill here depending on who your cook is - some are more fun than others but it is a good family experience. I have came to this location a couple of times and I really like it. food is very tasty but sometimes you get more vegetables and rice than actual meat. Had a party of 5 on Sunday 8/22/21 at 12:30 and were the first to be seated in the Habachi area. Out of all of the available Hibachi group tables available we were put in the corner of the room next to the kitchen doors with a strong dish washing smell permeating our space. Also, we had to argue with the hostess to move to a different table. The cook and food were fine but service was horrible. None of our dishes after eating were picked up. We mentioned that there was a birthday person at our table but the staff did not come out to do their birthday greeting until after we paid and were getting up to leave. No fortune cookies left either except for the party of two that had also sat at our table. Hope Stix enjoyed the $ 250 we dropped to eat at their restaurant because we don't plan on coming back. If there were zero stars, I would give this place a zero. This was the third time of us eating here and what made it worse, it was our anniversary dinner. On top of not having a system, they can't even keep reservations and a reasonable time of wait. There were people there waiting an hr past their reservations. On top of that my hot tea was luke warm. The entire restaurant was freezing to the point we had to add heavy coats on. We didn't get sushi till we got the check. And added a gratuity on a party of 2.
