My friends and I set out to visit this winery and two others on a cold winter day after seeing them as part of a list in The Washingtonian. It was not our first, or even second or third, trip to wineries in Virginia, but all three wineries were new to us. Of the three, this one had both the best tasting food and best tasting food. The sparkling wine and pizza we ate were both delicious. It was also a beautiful, with a cozy lodge-like building overlooking the scenic vineyard, and lots of outdoor tables with a gorgeous view had the weather been better. I would love to come back in a warmer season. However, it was not without its downsides. It was definitely the most expensive winery we visited, with a bottle being about $50--a little steep, and I declined to bring one home. The "butter board" we ordered was also NOT a butter board, but rather a loaf of bread with two sides of butter. The artisanal butters were good, but the bread wasn't warm and a butter board is a specific food item and this was not it; we felt pretty ripped off for the price point of it. This was also a tough venue to be at in the winter. The whole establishment was very cold, and you had to go outside to order your food and then back outside to get it when your buzzer went off. But the most surprising thing was that there didn't seem to be a tasting? We didn't see any flights on the menu or any options for half pours, etc., to try various wines. So we each ended up getting a glass, but it wasn't really the tasting experience we were looking for. Overall, I would recommend the winery, particularly in the summer and if you're looking for lunch with your wine, as the pizza, glass of wine, and view were stellar. read more

Did the Winter Winery Experience for my birthday. Diane was the tour guide and she's super knowledgeable. You can tell she really loved her job and is genuinely interested in what she does. She was an excellent guide! The food was okay. We had the beet and goat cheese salad, which I liked a lot, arugula and red pepper pizza with the crab dip. Dip had a hard cheese crust if you're into that. Wines are dry! I'd say it was a well rounded experience between the rose, whites, and reds. The location was convenient (be careful on the road up, very bumpy). The setting was very nice. The owners have a lot of land and venues for anything you can think of. Stone Tower is one of my favorite wineries in the DC area. The brut rosé is fantastic and perfect in the warmer months. The grounds are expansive, and they've got lots of seating options - but be warned, in nice weather, this place can be packed! They do have two spaces - one that's for families and dog-friendly, and one that's 21+ up only. What's extra nice about Stone Tower is that the food is really good, especially the pizza. They offer gluten-free pizzas - and mark the menu clearly for gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The fries are also incredible - well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. Absolutely stunning views, delicious selection of wines, and very tasty food. This winery has it all and has a dog-friendly indoor section and plenty of dog-friendly space outside along with family- friendly areas. While there were multiple events taking place - baby showers, weddings, birthdays - it was not overly crowded. Staff was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable on the wines, history of Stone Tower, and area. They had a diverse selection of flavors and wines including one from Burgundy through a pre-existing partnership. Their food was delicious with an array of creative pizzas, fries, and other food for all palates. While we came in winter, we cannot wait to return in warmer weather to enjoy the outside and beautiful views of rolling fields. Staff shared that it does get busier starting in spring with Mother's Day tending to be one of the busiest days and October being one of the busier months with people starting to arrive an hour before open to get prime seating. This place is huge and gorgeous. It's definitely a little on the bougie side and some of the wines are very very pricey. They have a while building only for members. Nevertheless, their surroundings are great, there's plenty of space outdoors, and a good amount indoors, the pizza was delicious, and the wines by the glass are not bad. Beautiful spot but the food service was a nightmare. We went for Mothers Day and the family friend side of the winery was completely unprepared. People were literally waiting for two hours for their food. We never got our food (which was only chicken fingers) and they couldn't reimburse me. It was outrageous to have a venue serve pretty much only alcohol and ice cream. A total liability if you ask me to not be able to give food and only serve alcohol. They stopped taking orders altogether because of the two hour delay so then people couldn't even get food if they tried. They should have allowed food trucks. Then in the ladies room the toilet wouldn't flush. I don't know if they have new management or what but whoever was in charge of the food service had no clue what they were doing. Delicious wines and beautiful view! Our wine server, Annie, was knowledgeable and friendly. She's been working there 7 years and lives it. We weren't expecting California-quality wines, but we were pleasantly surprised. I would put these up against all the ones we've had in Sonoma. I especially liked the South Fork merlot, cab franc, cab sauv blend. Go up to the Tower for the best view. We want to return in warmer weather to enjoy greenery and the open garage-style doors. read more

It's quite pricey (the wine I liked was $28/glass & $79/bottle!), so didn't buy any bottles to bring home. My husband surprised me with the Winter deluxe tour package, it was worth every penny. First off, this place is absolutely beautiful. And this was a cold winter day, and still just breathtaking. From the views, and the ambience indoors it all was fabulous. Second, our tour guide Kevin, was amazing! He is so knowledgeable, me, and my husband walked away learning a lot. Third, the food. Stone Tower Winery is incredibly beautiful! They also have good wines and are dog friendly. We arrived one Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. Since we came with our dog, we were limited to outdoor seating, which is available on a first come first served basis. Without waiting too long, we found covered seating. We then placed an order for 5 glasses of red wines via the QR code. We were pleasantly surprised by the 2000 Estate Wind Swept Hill, 2021 Estate Fieldstone, and 2020 Estate Merlot. All were lovely. Though I have to say the wines here are priced on the higher side. For some reason, Stone Tower doesn't provide free water. Bottled water is available at $1 each. Overall, we had a nice time at Stone Tower Winery. It is a great place to drink wine and relax with your dog; and is definitely one of the more beautiful wineries in the Northeast. read more

Among the NOVA wineries I've visited, Stone Tower gave me the closest ambiance to a Napa winery: The expanse of the land, the seating options, and the landscaping are all amazing. Because we didn't seek the formal dining options, you order/pick up food/snacks/ice cream in a separate area than the bar. My biggest hassle was the fact that you can only do flights standing at the bar. I am a very slow drinker/eater, and would always prefer to enjoy a flight at my own pace at the table. The prices are pretty steep, but it is 2024 and DMV, so not very unusual of an experience there. read more

If you are looking for a quaint, quiet, cozy winery, skip Stone Tower. It's huge with multiple tasting rooms and outdoor seating areas. Stone Tower is a bit too large and commercial for my taste, but it is one of the few places that allows dogs inside the tasting room, which was critical for us on a 95 degree day. The whites are dominated by Chardonnay, which is one of my least favorite grapes. I tasted the wild boar Chardonnay, which was unoaked and not bad for a Chardonnay. I also tasted the Rose T, which was not my taste. I finally landed on the sparkling brut rose, which was refreshing and tasty. The wines are pretty pricey at $42 per bottle. We also tried the in house pizza, which was good but not great. Despite my 3 star review, I would come back. read more

There's a great selection of wines but bottles are pricy. Margarita pizza & fries: the fries were sooo good! The pizza was a 2/5. I'm not sure if they were trying to rush making the pizza with a higher temperature but the only thing you could taste was a burnt smoky crust. Absolutely amazing scenery and perfect for a Sunday day out with friends. Situated just an hour's drive away from Washington DC, this is the perfect escapade for urban dwellers like us. Fab place, lovely staff and a really nice set up with different seating areas so you can have a more chilled visit, or be in the busier section for more of a lively atmosphere. Fantastic cheese plate, served with warm bread and lots of accouterments. The staff were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic during the wine tasting and gave some wines not on the standard tasting menu. A little pricey, but a nice treat. read more

Wonderful Mothers Day celebration Saturday with my daughter at Stone Tower Winery. The weather was perfect! Balmy with a slight cooling breeze and a panoramic view of the vineyards, lake and rolling hills set the tone for lunch. We had a unique white sauce pizza - (Fantastic) Farmer's Market: spring peas, swiss chard, ricotta, lemon zest with a drizzle of honey - and delicious charcuterie board and sipped a unique wine Sycolin Creek (crisp white with a bit of oak & sweet finish). She'd arranged an Uber trip to another favorite winery of hers - 50 West Vineyards - where we finished the afternoon watching the clouds roll in over the mountains & sipped their Brut Rose by a fire pit table. We had wine tastings at both wineries presented by personable, patient sommeliers. We laughed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our patient husbands provided safe transport home. read more

First of all, I want to say that if you're looking for a nice fall day with friends, THIS is the place to be. The view is gorgeous. They had a wedding going on while I was there but the service was still impeccable. The food did take a bit long, I ordered charcuterie but it was such a good amount for the price. What a lovely getaway close to home! It was a quick drive. The drive is lovely into the country side. This winery is relatively large. The 'harvest barn' section is open to general public and then they have a separate area reserved only for the members. The Harvest barn is pretty. They have decent food options - with outdoor as well as indoor sitting. I tried the herb fries, seasonal salad, Tomato Soup and wine )2021 Sauvignon Blanc).The pizzas looked nice and light. Will try them next time. It does get very busy. Since its so close to northern Virginia towns. It is also dog friendly and kid friendly. On a Saturday afternoon there was a long line for food ordering and also one for ordering wine. Then there may be some wait before you get a table. Even the road to this place was gorgeous. The views here you cannot beat and the wine is also tasty. There's an option to pay for a tasting, but since I was working remote from here, I didn't do the tasting. I had a glass of 2020 Nebbiolo to start which was pretty good. I'm not much of a wine drinker but had to try something while here. The Arugula and roasted red pepper pizza was delicious. There were parts of it a little too burned for my liking, so I didn't finish the whole pizza. But the toppings were top tier. The truffle fries were so good and not one went to waste. It was lovely being able to eat and work remote from here. Seeing the vineyard on nearby hills was very cool. I loved just sitting and enjoying the warm weather before the cold season. read more
