Where do I start? It was my first time here. The nice guy at the host stand tried to explain the format, but he talked so fast I had to ask him to repeat. Oh, you have to order right here? It was a good thing we didn't have anyone behind us. It took me and my friend 5 minutes to communicate our order. I asked for my salad without cucumbers. The server said it didn't have cucumbers. It had cucumbers. I had the chicken breast/tri-tip combo. The chicken was under done. The steak was relatively tasteless. The BBQ sauce tasted like it was from the grocery store. Honestly, I think Arby's would have tasted as good. The service staff were all very friendly and eager to please. I left a review here in 2015, and I left 4 stars. I visited again this week, and the food was so bad I had to leave a new review. I'll make it short and to the point: * Upon entering, you stand in line and order, and after paying, you are presented a receipt to sign, and it conveniently has a line for a tip. A tip? I had to stand in line and wait 7 minutes to order. Halfway through my meal, I wanted another beer, and asked a "server", who told me I would have to get back in line again. What? I went back to the line (is this McDonald's?) and saw 4 parties ahead of me, in line. I waited about 5 minutes and only one party ordered and paid, and meanwhile my food is getting cold on the table. Really...whoever came up with this idiotic idea to make the customer go stand in line to order a drink is a complete moron. But I am supposed to tip? Tip for what? I seated myself, I stood in line to order, I had to go to a special area to get my own plates and utensils, and now I'm in line to order a beer...but they still expect me to give a 20% tip? gtfo * I ordered a large slab of ribs, and they were lukewarm at best. I then tried to cut off sections of the ribs for my party, and the meat was so tough I couldn't get through. The person on the other side of the table pitched in and held the slab down with a fork while I rolled up my sleeves and gave it another go, finally cutting off one or two. I was in the Army for 11 years and I had never seen worse ribs in all that time, in the institutional mess halls. The meat is supposed to "fall away" from the ribs, if cooked right. It shouldn't be a struggle, guys. * The place was kind of crowded, and we were a large party looking for a large table. There was one large table with a party that had long finished their meal and were just sitting around talking (mostly older women), they had their jackets on and purses on their laps, as if they were ready to go. We waited and waited...and then I politely asked an employee if he could nicely ask them to leave, or maybe hint that the table was needed, and he looked at me in shock, as if I asked him to moon the table. Evidently they are free to sit there all night, on a busy weekend night, talking, 45 minutes after their meal ended. In summary, the whole evening was unpleasant. The line and wait to order, being asked to tip (for what, I have no idea, as the only think the server did was deliver the food; we did everything else), the noise level was really high, the food was mediocre at best, and not hot. I came in a few days ago and was waiting for my food. And while the food was just awful I would like to take the time and talk about the staff. While waiting I spent my time listening to a grown man (MANAGER) speak so poorly about his team members to ANOTHER team member. These kids looked around 16-20. This to me explains a lot. The food is garbage and while I see many of these reviews about the kids working here and how it's their fault that the food comes out wrong etc. But what about the management? You want teenage kids to work hard and try their best to run the restaurant (again KIDS) but have GROWN ASS MEN be disgusting to their team members? And one who speaks so highly of himself, it's gross. I used to work at a restaurant like that and left because of the management. I'm just not sure where grown men get off to treating kids so poorly at a very average restaurant. You are a manager at a RESTAURANT, nothing too special! I had the pleasure of dining on Stonefire's catering this past weekend at a wedding. The spread included Caesar salad, rigatoni, grilled chicken, and garlic bread. There were also two Stonefire employees on hand to serve the food, which was a nice touch. Admittedly, I came in with a low view of catered food, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was very good eats. The Caesar salad and grilled chicken were very good, the rigatoni was fine, the garlic bread was outrageously good. I hope that one day I can try their food in-restaurant, but I was only in the area for a quick visit. Definitely consider Stonefire for your catered event. read more

I usually have a really great time here but when I dined recently it wasn't a good experience. My mother and I ordered the chicken and we barely ate any of it because it didn't taste great. I work across the road, so when I forget to pack a lunch, this place is my first pick. They have a new lunch special I hope won't go away soon. The portions are large and it's only $7. My favorite is the BBQ steak 9" pizza and salad of choice. You can tell it's made fresh. It's not a traditional sit down restaurant. There aren't really waitresses or waiters. You pay before you sit yourself, and they'll come to you when it's done. But I suppose it's convenient because you dint have to wait on them to take an order or bring you drinks. So I guess a tip isn't necessary? They are friendly and willing to help you with anything when they bring your meal so don't feel like they are a lazy crew. read more

My boyfriend and I have been coming to Stonefire for sometime now. Every time we come both the food and service are amazing. This past Friday we came for dinner around 9PM and we had the pleasure of Ryan (manager) taking our order: BBQ tri-tip for 2, BBQ chicken salad, mashed potatoes, kids macaroni/cheese & of course extra bread sticks (About $35: feeds 3-4) To top it off, we couldn't decide if we wanted carrot cake or not, Ryan ended up giving it to us on the house. We were instructed to ask for the cake when we were ready. After finishing all of our yummy food it was carrot cake time. Unfortunately, they ran out. Blake brought us back a oatmeal cookie to die for instead & two coupons for next time. I cannot believe the amount of kindness Blake and Ryan showed us that evening. My wife and I stop in 2-3 times per week after our morning work-out in a local gym. We usually have a shareable grilled chicken salad which is a light and healthy lunch. We love the outdoor patio area. The staff is always friendly and the tables always clean. A special call-out to Sean (the Manager) who always greets us with a smile. PS. It's theme park food at best - bland, not very flavorful, cheap quality, etc. You order at the front cashier and waiters bring your food to you - kind of a fancy cafeteria. The clientele it serves is that of a Norms in the middle of the south - bizarre people, cracked out people, and good eatin' families. My boyfriend and I came across this restaurant on accident. Let me start off by saying that this restaurant serves the MOST juiciest and "fall-off-the-bone" ribs. The way this restaurant is made is you walk in and there's a counter ahead of you where you place your order and you are given a small buzzer but it doesn't buzz when your orders ready it works more like a GPS for the waiter to find where you chose to sit. Oh yeah, forgot to mention after ordering your food, you pick yourself where you want to be seated, hence the reason of the GPS thing. We ordered their famous cauliflower (delicious) The ribs (finger licking good) Pasta (I forgot the name but will add photos) this was okay but the portion for this was huge! We ordered a side of garlic bread (yummy) And last but not least we got something like a grilled chicken (we didn't like the chicken it was too bland and unflavorful however it was cooked to perfection because it melted in your mouth) To finish off we ordered their famous carrot cake and that was the most delicious carrot cake ever! I haven't spent much time in Thousand Oaks, but I get the impression that it's a town filled with families and Stonefire is a perfect place for that. It's a spacious place filled with lots of comfy booths and big family style type portions that make for nice cozy family meals. I was there with my work family and we highly enjoyed the Allison's Creation pizza and a medium size of the South Of The Border salad, which was more than enough for three eaters. I also tried a little single serving of the nutty cole slaw because I was so curious, and I really liked that as well. They also have these ginormous cookies sold by the cash register that seem to be some sort of chocolate chip oatmeal variety and is ridiculously delicious. The staff is super friendly and the place is very comfy even if you're staying there a while (which we were to get some work done on our laptops)... they were really nice in helping me find an outlet, but I was sad to find that although they have a Stonefire wifi line they aren't allowed to share the password. Other than that, I really enjoyed my time at Stonefire and would recommend it for an easy, wholesome meal in the area! read more

Do you like oil? No, seriously. DO YOU LIKE OIL? LOTS AND LOTS OF OIL? If your answer is "Yes", then this is the place for you. If not, find somewhere else to eat. I was here with my father a few days ago and I have to say, "YIKES!" Their food is swimming in oil. I ordered the quarter chicken and tri-tip meal. I think they soak their food in oil before cooking it, because that is all I tasted. First, they cook everything in their wood fire stone ovens, which is awesome, usually, except here they managed to make that vile. They place the food on aluminum trays (like a pizza) and stick it in the stone oven. Then they serve you said food on the same aluminum tray they cooked it in. The chicken and the tri-tip were floating on a pool of oil. -- Oh! And just in case you didn't think it was greasy enough, they slap a mounding tablespoon of garlic butter on top of the tri-tip. Soaked in grease, cooked in grease and served with a side of grease. I think I may have had a small heart attack while eating it. I should call my doctor. Now that that is over with, lets talk about everything else: 1. This is unlike a normal restaurant, in that you order up front and pay first (like Sizzler) and then grab a seat, where a server brings your food. 2. The service is lousy. I asked for mustard. That took ten minutes. Apparently they went in the back and picked the seeds from the plant and then ground them into Grey Poupon. Impressive stuff. 3. The salad was, well... meh. Yup that sums that up. I highly recommend you go somewhere else to eat, unless of course you are an oil vampire. If that's the case, this is the place for you. read more

When Stonefire Grill opened near my yoga studio, I was tortured every day by the smell of mesquite and food before having to go into a zen workout. Then I got to sample Stonefire at a Yelp event and was very impressed! The meat was juicy and tender and delicious. Finally came here for a late lunch with two guy friends. We each ordered a pretty good sized meal. I had a beer and they had cokes and it came to $45. I was really happy to see so many entree salads to choose from and they all sounded delicious but I think I got their signature BBQ salad with tri-tip. I tried to order the small but the guy at the counter assured me that a petite would be enough. I have a big appetite, I said! But he was right. I think I left one or two bites that I just couldn't finish but it was incredible. The guys got chicken and ribs and also gave glowing reviews. The chicken was falling off the bone and was juicy and tender. You would think you'd never heard of dry chicken after having that. As for the ambiance, it's clean and spacious and very family friendly. I like the order counter where the attendant looks like a maitre'd. And the food comes out lightning fast. You do have to get your own drinks and silverware though. My only critique is that in 2011, a place serving this much meat in upscale neighborhoods really should make an effort to source quality meat raised humanely and provide information on it. I'm not comfortable eating meat on a regular basis without any knowledge of where it comes from. All of the nicer restaurants are going that direction and I'd like to see Stonefire follow suit. read more

Love love love Stonefire Grill! They have fantastic lunch specials I ordered the petite chicken with salad and a breadstick which was awesome! Our order was ready in no time and they deliver your food right to your table. You place your order with the server at the front counter and then go find a table. Once that buzzer goes off they bring it to you! The chicken was so flavorful with garlic, lemon, and parsley. The Ceasar salad and breadstick was also packed with so much flavor. My friends were all very happy with their choices and we are planning our next lunch date there. The location is perfect and the restaurant is huge with even an outdoor patio. My only complaint was that it was really loud and hard to hear eachother, but hardly an issue when the food and price is that good! Check it out asap! read more

Yikes. Talk about overrated and disappointing. Perusing the website or the menu, it looks like a classy quick-service restaurant with simple, rustic meals. Really, it's at the level of Olive Garden, if not even worse (if you can believe it). We got a few chicken breasts, garden salad, grilled vegetables, and breadsticks. Some of the chicken was lemon garlic, but the lemon was almost non-existent, the garlic was undercooked (which meant fairly hard) and generously spread over a still-dripping oil topping on the chicken, and the chicken was dry. The barbequed chicken breast was slightly better because the chicken wasn't dried out, but the BBQ sauce was totally bland and tasted like it was the lowest quality mass-produced glop from a restaurant supply seller. The garden salad was just chopped lettuce, underwhelming tomatoes, other bits of typical (I assume) bagged lettuce (red cabbage and carrot shreddings), and some diced cucumbers. The grilled vegetables were okay, but not too remarkable, and lacking in the good stuff (like eggplant). The breadsticks were decent. All in all, it was a lot of food for the price, but it wasn't terribly good. At all. We won't go back. read more

Stonefire Grill catered our wedding this past July and we could not have been more thrilled with the job they did. My husband and I knew we wanted BBQ but needed veggie options for guests as well. Since our wedding site was in Camerillo our options were more limited than if we would have staying in the LA area. It turns out that it was just far enough that none of our favorite LA BBQ restaurants would cater without it being super expensive. We found several good local places, in fact I think we ate at every BBQ place within 30 miles, but catering a large wedding was either too hard for them, they had limited options for non-meat eaters, or they were a really chainy-chain. We needed something inbetween the foodie $150 a plate BBQ and the "oh hey it's that place by every mall" BBQ caterers. When we found Stonefire's menu I was in shock, the prices for catering are so low that I assumed the food wouldn't be great, but I was wrong! After eating in and trying the food I was sold. It's fresh, simple BBQ with really great sides and salads that are substantial enough to be main courses. They were the perfect choice for our semi-casual, ranch wedding! We had 2 meats; chicken and tri-tip for everyone, quinoa (which is awesome there) kale salad, green salad and Mac and cheese. Everyone from kids to vegans seemed happy with the food and it was half the price and far better than other places in the area. The restaurants (this location and Pasadena) are good for dining in too, but they are nothing to write home about, just nice, quick service, casual dinning. The quality of the food certainly outshines the atmosphere but for a group or family meal the restaurant. Again, I am so grateful I found them for our wedding, so many guests told me that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had and we didn't go into debt because of it. read more

I came in Friday for dinner with my wife after a movie. We love this place because it's delicious and casual. I had the tri tip meal with mash potatoes. The meal is such a great value, but the tri tip was a little tough today. A manager with a yellow shirt, glasses and beard boxed a freshly made Tri tip with a cookie in the bag. My mom and I went to this location for an early dinner and definitely enjoyed their butternut squash and tortilla soup, but was not pleased with their salad. I got a cobb salad and my mom ordered the Stonefire BBQ chicken salad. To begin with, the salad came out suspiciously fast and looked like it had been sitting for a while. The BBQ chicken salad my mom ordered came to our table without chicken, so we sent it back. The staff then asked if we still wanted the salad with chicken, which is what we had been waiting on. The same plate of salad gets brought back to our table with BBQ chicken on the side. We didn't think much of it and ate. Unfortunately we both fell semi ill and queasy the next day.
