This review is for tonight's dinner. I was craving Italian and thought that pizza would suffice. We headed for Straw Hat on the corner of Paseo Padre and Walnut, but found it was closed. Weird for 6pm on a Saturday. So we headed for Strizzi's, the next closest Italian resto. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. They were considerate enough to seat us where our daughter (2 yr old) could sleep peacefully in her stroller. Our waiter was nice and gave a great recommendation: Chicken Fettuccine (or was it linguine?) with Pesto and Pine Nuts. Yum! Hubby had the Italian Sausage and Linguine (or was it fettuccine?), which was pretty good as well. Portions were perfect - not too much, not too little. If they dropped a couple of bucks off their entrees' prices, I'd give them 5 stars. Also loved the fact that they were attentive and made sure our drinks were always refilled. Their ice tea was delicious too - didn't really need to add the sugar for flavor (except that I was craving the extra sweetness). read more

Great service, really good food, clean and cute. I had a nice green salad and a piece of baked lasagna. It was nearly awesome. We went in on Friday night and there was no wait, with only about half of the tables full. That was unsettling and I hope business picks up or it was just an off night. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and the boys ate probably four loaves of hot fresh Italian bread which was really good. No alcohol, sodas and meals for four came to just around $80. read more

3 1/2 stars. Dinner Review My original review was for lunch. Last night we ate dinner here. It was nice and cool inside, a major plus considering it was over 90 degrees outside. I find it amazing how many restaurants in Fremont have insufficient air conditioning and expect their customers to swelter in the heat. Hey, why do you think we are eating out on a hot week night? I had grilled salmon with steamed vegetables. Normally it comes with mashed potatoes but I asked if they could substitute sliced tomatoes instead. (I'm trying to loose weight.) I was delighted when they brought me the tomato topped with Mozzarella, capers, sun dried tomatoes, and fresh basil. I would have been even more delighted if they had brought me the New York steak topped with the bourbon sauce, a large order of garlic fries or a side of fettuccini Alfredo and said "I'm sorry sir, but this is all we have left. We'll include Tiramisu. Five stars for sure. Diets are such a bore. Sigh. Strizzi delivers nicely prepared fresh food, nothing fancy, with a good selection of fresh fish. When I think about their lack of moo-meat menu, it surprises me that I like this place so much. "Beef. It's what's for dinner" is my guideline. But the last two times I've been here, I've left smiling. Few weeks ago was a grilled porterhouse and, the other day, filet medallions w/ peppercorn sauce. Neither was on the printed menu or specials board. All I had to do was ask the server if they had any beef entrees. And viola! Like a good neighbor, good beef was there. Of the two, I preferred the filets. But the pleasantries of the dining experience go beyond the plate. Our waitress was Sheryl. Fantastic. Great smile and attitude. This restaurant is just terrific! Their food is always delicious and I'll keep coming back and will try something new each time. So far I've had the chicken with walnuts, the burger, and a berry sundae. I've also really enjoyed the ciabatta bread. Figured it was time to sit down and give them a well deserved compliment. :-) The food is really good and I've had good service each time I've been there. I can't remember having ever eaten dinner at Strizzi's, even after having lived in Fremont for years! My mom had always mentioned it, but it was never at the top of my list to explore. After dining on a recent weekend evening with my family, I sort of realized why it wasn't a list topper for me - it was filled with older folks. Nonetheless, my favorite fish was the catch of the day - a grilled halibut. I had to order it - obviously. Served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus, it was the perfect portion. Overall, the restaurant had a decent selection of pastas and other entrees. The happy hour menu had a good selection of drinks and small plates, as well. A decent family restaurant in Fremont, and one that your parents would definitely enjoy. read more

This is the worst. This is the second time I've walked out. Service is terrible. I was there during an off time. Three waiters a hostess and bartender. One in a booth and one at the bar. First waited to be seated then waited to give order. Ordered a glass of wine and water and my partner ordered coffee. We waited and waited and waited. I see her up there at cash register. Another waiter is doing nothing and finally I walked out. The first time same thing. I thought restaurants were wanting business. They certainly weren't short staffed no one was in there. My wife picked up to-go last night and thought the bar area looked worthy of having a drink there someday. I got the spaghetti and meatballs "four generations of family recipes", which has a mild, sweet sauce and quite a bit of cheese. The two meatballs were medium sized, soft and airy, which was unique. The pasta was soft and overcooked, which may have something to do with it being Super Bowl night, but that's purely speculation. I thought the portion could have been bigger for the price. My wife had vegetable ravioli, which she liked. I thought the portion was small as well, and it seemed to have a very creamy sauce. The bread was a sourdough loaf, which reminded us of the Colombo brand. Nothing wrong with that stuff, but the sour taste didn't really compliment the pasta, in our opinion. I wasn't going to write this review, but then I saw Randy R.'s and I thought that maybe Strizzi's has a problem it needs to look into. My husband and I ate there on June 25th for our anniversary and both ended up with food poisoning. I had it a bit worse than he did, and it was miserable. I wish I had called the restaurant and let them know. Two stars instead of one because we had been there a few times before with no problem. It's a shame that I don't think I'll be able to get myself to eat there again. Strizzi's has a good selection for vegetarians. Their pasta is fresh and they have a good wine selection, the servers are friendly and the ambiance is nice (though they could stand to get the carpets cleaned). Not a good service tonight. Server was Jerman. They messed up my appetizer by bringing the wrong item, thus, having to wait another ten minutes for the right one. And then........the entree. Albeit, it was only missing the mixed veggies, my server seemed irritated that I would mention this. He made the the comment, "we'll just add broccoli to it!", referring to my green beans. I opted to have the meal returned and skipped dinner at strizzi's. The manager was polite to come over to tell me the obvious that I would not be charged for my food. He made no attempt to make ammends, nor did he offer a comped meal for the two bad orders on 1 sevice tab. So if you go to strizzis, don't. But if you do, say hi to the manager and remind him to make sure they get your order right. read more

Finally an Italian change that gets the seasoning right! Scallops Picatta and Cheesecake were both excellent! For those who don't like Italian they also have wood grill items which are also said to be good. My husband's chicken pesto pine nuts was excellent too. I used to go to the Strizzi's in downtown Pleasanton with my family all the time, so we were ecstatic when one was opened closer to home in Fremont. I guess I've been lucky judging by the other reviews because I've never had any experiences with bad service at this location; there's been nothing but helpful servers every time I've been there. The prices are a little high, but the food is quality. If you join their email list, you get enough coupons to make everything worth it. They're also great for take out, and some of the coupons are geared toward take out as well. My favorite dishes are the rosemary chicken and the chicken pesto with pine nuts. They are both just too yummy for words. Although basic, the bread they give you before your meal is always fresh and full of flavor. I've also never had a salad I didn't enjoy there either. To top it all off, make sure you pick up one of their mints on the way out. They're chocolate covered pillow mints, and they are a perfect treat to end a great meal. read more

This small chain has decent food if you want a quick pasta fix. I started off with their house Cesar Salad and for my main dish I had the Italian Sausage with fettuccine Alfredo sauce. First the salad was outstanding. The hearts of Romain were fresh, crisp and the croutons were really good. You must be wondering why the three start review if I'm raving about the salad. The pasta itself was tasty however was over sauced. Not to mention that the portion was really small for the price. As soon as I walked in I was treated with the upmost respect as it is my first time eating at the restaurant. A kind beautiful lady let me to my seat and took my order. The food was made so quickly I was surprised as to how fast it had arrived. And the taste of it was no joke as well, I ordered a jalapeño Alfredo dish. The sauce is so rich and creamy everything was overall outstanding. If you're looking for a place to eat at the restaurant in Fremont I would definitely recommend this place. I ordered the salmon dish and like I've seen in other reviews, it isn't worth the price they charge. Sampled the Alfredo and the garlic bread too, but rather spend the same type of money at olive garden tbh. The Alfredo had about a whole head of garlic in it, deeming it inedible for my fiance. I'd even prefer eating at their other chain, Riagtonis which is a lower cost Italian joint, but I felt it was worth the quality/price. If you're craving Italian in the area, I suppose it will suffice but otherwise I'd try elsewhere. I'd suggest Buon appetito in Hayward. I enjoyed their food more than this place read more

Hidden gem located truly by accident. Quite, nice establishment with jazz playing overhead. The meal did not disappoint! Arrived in time to take advantage of a lunch small plate of salad (or soup) and a wide selection from the main menu. I fully enjoyed the rigatoni Bolognese. Honestly, the food wasn't the worst but, in regards to it being specialized in pasta was a huge disappointment. The meat also tasted as if it were frozen. In all reality, for the price the service wasn't at all worth it either. Not to mention the wait time of around half an hour when there was only one person before myself. Quite a few mediocre reviews towards the end of 2013. Based on our experience, it seems like they've tried to fix some things because we had a good meal at this Strizzi's complete with really attentive service. We were meeting friends who hadn't yet been to the Pacific Commons movie theatre but the boyfriend wasn't feeling any of the food options there, so we got to Strizzi's right before 6 p.m. on a Friday. No wait. Our Arnold Palmers were refilled without us even asking for refills. We saw that the bar has a TV and it was showing a basketball game. There were a few folks in that section glued to the game. I liked the starters we got. The Scallop & Shrimp Scampi was cooked just right and served in a glass topped full of a buttery, garlic broth. A bit pricey (we got 4 scallops, 4 shrimp), but yummy. Try dipping the complimentary bread in the broth to extend the experience. :) The Cajun Fried Calamari was very fresh and not rubbery or fishy at all. The hostess was great and told us that we should take a look at the Early Dining Favorites. It's nice to have staff be so honest and tell you about the deals you might have missed otherwise! We were STUFFED to our gills. By the time I hit the entree, I knew I was going to food coma through the movie. The soup and salad are pretty generous portions. I had the Clam Chowder with my Cajun Chicken Risotto. My boyfriend had the Spinach Salad with the Wood Grilled Chicken, substituting broccoli for the mashed potatoes. His asparagus was tender which is good because he hates being served tough asparagus spears. I thought my risotto was good, but the wood grilled chicken was great that night. Juicy with just enough woodsy smokiness. As for service, it was a good team effort. Our server checked in on us throughout the meal, but at nicely spaced intervals. Her colleagues would circle around with water and iced tea pitchers for refills. Even the person we thought was the manager (in a white shirt) would rush to set tables with place settings, help clear tables, and stopped by to check in on our evening. Here's the deal with Strizzi's... the spaghetti and meatballs is divine. The bread is good, but not special. The service is what you'd expect from a big chain, hit and miss. If you go there expecting a full-on Italian food experience, your reaction will probably be a little meh, especially for the price. But if you stick to the spaghetti and meatballs, you'll be happy. I went here with my coworkers for a training dinner. The servers were very courteous with us (there were 11 of us at dinner). They were prompt to our attention, and handled everything with a smile. We came in at a fairly ok time, it wasn't rush hour dinner, and we made reservations in advance. We were seated within 2-3 minutes. Our server (according to a coworker of mine) looked like the main character from "Center Stage". He was very nice, in taking our orders, and was very good at the "upsell" of their special of the week, Copper River King Salmon.... 4 of the 11 people got that. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Fettucine. I'll admit, the sauce was ok, albeit it was a little thin and runny. It had a nice kick in spice to it, and the chicken wasn't dry. Unfortunately, the noodles were way overcooked, and fell apart everytime I tried to pick it up with the fork. Big dissapointment there. My coworker got Spinach and cheese ravioli's, which looked ok, but I didn't try it. Green puffy looking pastas aren't my deal. Another one of my coworkers got Linguini with clam sauce. They also overcooked her noodles. They also used canned clams.... No freshness! I wasn't impressed at all with the place. I'll give the staff it's props though, they did really well in servicing a big group like us. Their prices were really high too, I mean $13.95 for a chicken dish that had MAYBE 3 big pieces of chicken? I love Strizzis!!! My boyfriend and I even have a special way of exclaiming "STRIZZZI'SSS!!" when we're excited for the night ahead. Yeah, it's a chain, but since I'm not from the Bay Area I remember walking past this place the first time when I was studying at Peet's and thinking how fancy it looked :D We usually try to go for the happy hour drinks and happy hour dinner, which comes out to like $20 for 2!! The servers are what really pushes this place to 4-5 stars -- I always leave feeling really well taken care of; the servers are always incredibly thoughtful and attentive. Even tho we end up splitting our dish usually, which is typically annoying for restaurants, the servers always split the dish into two plates for us, which I find super nice and classy. Love the mixed green salad, spaghetti and meatballs, crab / artichoke ravioli, fried zucchini, tomato and mozzerella. The last kicker here is "the works" which we always get (free!) which comes with garlic, butter, and parmesean cheese for your bread, but we always use this to help season the taste of our dishes, along with the vinegar and olive oil at the table. win!!! read more

Now what goes on in the kitchen is not my business as long as they are sanitary and the food is good. I am small business owner and I am very critical when it comes to service. Strizzi's - Italian Near Me - Fremont, California

I often saw this place on my way to the half priced bookstore, Naz cinema, or panera and always found it intriguing. Finally tonight my friend and I decided to try it out. The decor is sort of all over the place with booths, tables, and a semi-separate bar area with its own tables on the other side. I know many restaurants have both booths and tables but those are usually large ones where the tables and booths are separated by some kind of significant physical space. Though Strizzi's looks much larger from the outside its quite small and badly arranged, so this method of booths and tables just doesn't work. After noticing the odd spatial layout I noticed the prices $15-20 per entree but, I thought it would be a lot of good food for that price. I was so wrong, what do you do when you order $18 wood grilled chicken that ends up being one small piece of chicken with mushrooms randomly sprinkled on top of it? The mashed potatoes weren't bad, but the steamed green beans ruined the whole thing. At best this meal was just dining hall food on a really good day. My friend ordered the pasta primevera that was completely bland and again just looked like they threw vegetables and cheese on. Everything just seemed so assembly line. A lot of people are giving this place good ratings for its service, but our waitress was nothing special. She wasn't terrible, but she wasn't good either. I say skip this place and drive to Palo Alto where if nothing else you can get Buca or Cheesecake for the same price. side note: while sitting there eating I couldn't help but think the entire time that I could easily make both dishes at home for the $18 I had to pay for mine. Believe me, I'm not a cheap person, but there's something really sad about a restaurant that charges so much for food you could make out of all the things currently sitting in your fridge. read more

This review is no reflection on our waitress. She was great. Instead this review is focused on everything else associated with our recent visit. Which, will be out last. First, off the place ws completely disorganized. It took 20 minutes for a host/hostess to greet or seat us. To be fair 4 different roving waitresses and what appeared to be a manager did tell us someone would be with us soon. When we did finally get seated there was a lengthy discussion amongst three people. After the debate they placed us at a table that would not fit our party of two despite a more appropriate table 3 feet away. So, we moved to the other table. Next, as I said our waitress was great. However, the kitchen screwed up our order completely. They sent my wife a totally different dish than what she ordered. They did bring her a new one but there were problems there too. She ordered a seafood pasta dish and was actually looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the sauce was meat based instead of seafood based. So, it didn't taste right at all. My food had problems too. I ordered a pasta combo dish with clam chowder. The chowder didn't have enough clams in it. It was mostly the soup base and small potatoe chunks. The hot sauce and black pepper I added didn't help. It was basically like eating a bowl of slightly congealed gravy. I got the chicken pesto pasta for the other half of my combo. The chicken was fine but the pasta was undercooked and the pesto sauce was too oily. Also the portion sizes were backwards. The chowder was too much and the pasta too little. I actually had mild digestive problems later that night. Neither of us finished our meal and left totally unsatisfied. This was completely unacceptable for a $60 meal. read more

I'd give Strizzi's 3 1/2 stars if 1/2s were allowed. My husband and I hit up the bar during happy hour once a month or so. We've (for the most part) gotten good, not to chatty, but still friendly, service from the bartenders. They have good deals on some pretty strong happy hour drinks. They do offer happy hour appetizers, but unfortunately, most of them are fried. The calamari (regular, not cajun) is good, hasn't been rubbery or overcooked when we've had it. I'd skip the shrimp cocktail - not worth the price. Last time we came here for dinner it was for my grandfather's birthday. The service was good, even though there were 8 adults and 3 children in our party. I ordered a ravioli that was on special and it was quite good. Yes, there are only 6 or 7 raviolis, but they are three inches across. You do not need a bowlful of raviolis this size, so in my mind, it is not a skimpy portion. Several people in our party had the salmon, which they seemed to like. Yes, the bread is sourdough and cold sourdough just doesn't really go with the olive oil and balsamic that's offered, but whatever, I try not to fill up on bread anyhow. Something has drastically changed at your restaurant. We frequently eat here and have had great meals here. The last 2 times we have eaten here the food as not been up to standards. The service has been poor and the food was warm almost cold. After having been to the restaurant on Saturday two members of a party of four ended up with upset stomachs. It was my first time here and this place is wonderful! Although I didn't get greeted right away, the rest of my time there was excellent. The restaurant looks beautiful and she immediately took a chair and brought a high chair quicker than any place I've ever been to. She recommended my wine and it was great! Strizzi's is a little hidden away near the hospital in Fremont. Don't let that put you off; and the fact that it bills itself as more of a fish/wood fire grill place on the outside. The food here is definitely Italian. I've been here twice so far, and the food has been excellent. The portion sizes are not gigantic (which is a good thing, especially since you are tempted to fill up on bread and olive oil/vinegar while deciding what to order). Service was good (although not incredibly speedy). And the overall internal environment makes it a very pleasant place to eat. read more

Tried out Strizzi's at a friend's recommendation, and although the staff tried very hard, I still leave it at a "3." Reasons being: 1. My friend's bf found someone's eyelash in his salad. I think that for our benefit, he said he "thinks" it was his. But I noticed that he put his fork down after that. 2. My asiago and garlic ravioli gets an "A" with its presentation. The ravioli's formed a flower swimming in the pesto sauce, but it was a little bit too salty for me. 3. My bf, who usually polishes off his plate, took 3 bites of his sausage fettucini pasta... and also put his fork down. For the pros---service was great, and my friends had no complaints about their risotto and seafood alfredo. My spinach salad was simply divine! For a restaurant chain this place isn't too bad. I've dined here on a couple of occasions and to put it best it's 'fair.' It's not bad, it's not great, it's just kinda in the middle. The restaurant is clean and the servers have always been nice and friendly. To be save I always have their Oven Baked Lasagna w/ Tabasco...Mmmmm Tabasco nomnomnom! This place is a pretty standard Italian restaurant. I came on a week day so it was a little slow. The service was average. Since we were some of the few people there, I expected a little more attention. I had the risotto at the restaurant. It was pretty good. It was nice and creamy and flavorful. I think there could've been a little more kick to the food. I added a lot of red peppers. Since this is a chain, I'll accept it since they have to cater to different taste buds. I've been here twice and liked my food both times. I ordered two different types of the wood fire cooked fish (they usually have 3-4 varieties on the specials board). The fish is always very moist, and cooked perfectly. The piece of fish is sliced very thin, but it takes on a very good, smokey flavor which is really unique. The mashed potatoes are also excellent. My wife hasn't ever really liked it here, which is why I've only gone back twice. She doesn't like the fish as much as I do, and she ordered minnestrone soup and was upset that it had some kind of meat in it. Also, to be fair, on our second trip back the service was horrible. And it may be slightly overpriced, but these days, what isn't. It's fremont, so there's not much else. Unfortunately, I don't come to Strizzi's for the pasta, I come here for their addicting, crispy, perfectly Fried Mozzarella. Now these aren't your average mozzarella sticks that are tough, rubbery, and bland. These Fried Mozzarella are hefty squares that's breaded in a panko-like crust and deep fried to a golden brown. When you use your fork to break through the outer crunchy goodness you are welcomed to a soft, stringy, melty center of fresh mozzarella. Sorry...I think I had a little bit of drool on my chin. They are just so delicious and only 6.99 for 8 squares. Since I can't JUST eat Fried Mozzarella, I usually order their Grilled Chicken Sandwich. It's a really good sandwich, with grilled mushrooms & bell peppers on a soft ciabatta bun. The Fried Mozzarella and Grill Chicken Sandwich are enough to make me a returning patron. read more

Yes, it's a chain... But, at least they have good food and I was pleasantly surprised that the food was as good as it was... On the other hand, this place does have a cookie-cutter feel to it and the waitress was trying to push coupons on us, which was a little off-putting. We also thought that our waitress had the most annoying voice that we've ever heard - very high-pitched and squeaky... I know that's not her fault and no one can control how they sound - mostly... But it was a bit like being waited on by a Valley girl from the 1980s... Service in general was okay - not the best (annoying voice notwithstanding)... Food was better than I expected - probably a B... Good, but not excellent. Price was on the high side for lunch, but not outrageous. Restaurant was very clean... I had the soup and pasta combo for lunch: Creme of Broccoli and Seafood Fettuccine. The portion and the taste was just right for me; it's enough to fill you up but not too much so you get food coma afterward, and the sauce is not overly rich that you feel you cant take more than one bite. Also, make sure you ask for the Happy Hour menu, for the price you pay, you are getting a lot back from the restaurant. Overall, definitely a great restaurant to return to. read more

My wife and I went here today and had a nice lunch. The food is delicious. We both liked the fried Calamari and fried Mozzarella very much. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese and liked the meat sauce very much. My wife ordered a Ribeye steak and the steak is juicy and certainty can rival other big steakhouses.
