Snacks, drinks, and a little section for condiments
    Am H.

A cute little market tucked away in a cozy courtyard on Ventura. The owner is super friendly and prepares delicious fresh food right on site. There is a quaint selection of Asian snacks, condiments, drinks, and ice cream. Plus a grab-and-go section with freshly made katsu sandwiches, Spam musubi, onigiri, smoothies and more. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area for a drink and a fresh baked cookie! (The Dubai chocolate chip cookie is to die for!)

My friend and I were at Citywalk to watch a movie tonight and had a lot of time to kill and decided to have a snack here. The host was very friendly---he said it was his second day but checked to make sure to find out answers to questions he didn't know. He sat us promptly at the bar. From there, it was a steep decline. It was fairly hot inside as if the AC was broken and made the experience a bit uncomfortable. It took us about 10+ minutes while we were sat before a server even approached us. He told the table behind us that he would be with them in a minute and my friend responded thinking he was talking to us but he wasn't. He didn't even acknowledge us until way later. When he finally came over to us, we inquired about the different prices for the sake and they didn't have the sake we wanted on the menu so I asked for one more minute. He didn't come back for another 10 minutes and then I flagged someone down by raising my hand and he came over and interrupted me trying to order to tell me he would grab my server. Not sure if he was a busser or another server who had his own section and didn't want to help out. Alas, there seems to be a lot of floor staff and only 5 tables occupied at the time of our visit but the service was one of the most atrocious things I've seen in a while. Our server finally showed up again and we ordered our sake and one specialty roll to split: the Terminator. He asked us if we wanted ginger or wasabi to which I responded 'just a lot of wasabi.' The sushi roll came out extremely fast---probably within a 3-5 minutes of us ordering it and while we didn't have full on conversations with the sushi chefs, they were very nice and the reason for the extra stars on this review. I sat there for about 5 minutes unable to eat because I was still waiting for my wasabi. The server never checked up on us. I got the attention of the lovely lady sushi chef and asked for wasabi and she was apologetic and left to go tell the server. The server finally arrived with not just wasabi but a lot of ginger that we already told him we didn't need. The prices are ridiculous for what you get but it's Citywalk so understandable. The sushi roll was expensive at the tune of $23 but it was pretty tasty. If I was just rating the service, this review would have gotten 1/5 stars. Didn't catch a name. He never introduced himself. We asked one of the sushi chefs if they get to keep the tips in their tip jar on top of the bar because we wanted to make sure they got tipped properly and they said they do (just fyi if you want to tip the sushi chefs!). Would I come back? Possibly if I'm there for a movie or Universal. However, if I have to wait more than 5 minutes for a server to even acknowledge my existence once I'm already sat, I feel it best to walk out and head over to Vivo where their service is always on point.

Located on Ventura Boulevard, Sushi Tomoki is a small, intimate sushi restaurant with a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic and a relaxed atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. (The Infatuation) Since we were dining with our 22-month-old, we requested a table instead of sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was very accommodating. They even prepared a customized tamago sushi roll for our little one, which he absolutely enjoyed. The omakase was thoughtfully paced, with each piece served one at a time so we could fully appreciate every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece practically melted in our mouths. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients really stood out. The only piece that wasn't my favorite was the sushi topped with mint. It simply wasn't my personal preference, though I'm sure those who enjoy mint with savory dishes would appreciate it. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. They made my sister's birthday even more special by singing Happy Birthday and surprising her with complimentary sherbet and four pieces of green tea mochi--a thoughtful touch that ended the evening on a high note. Overall, Sushi Tomoki delivered a memorable omakase experience with outstanding sushi, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

We walked in at 6:40pm and got a nice welcome from Mediko. Without having a reservation, she sat us down immediately. Our server Meika approached us right away to take our order. We started off with a standard size of Garlic Edamame ($6.80), and then ordered few other cut rolls. Spicy Tuna Cut Roll--for 10 pieces ($14.80), Albacore Fried Onion Roll-- count of 12 for ($20.80), Zero Roll-- count of 12 for ($25.00), Rainbow Roll-- count of 12 for ($10.80). Everything was so LIGHT, FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! They also have hand rolls, and other types of cut rolls. They have street and metered parking. Before I forget, we ordered Crispy Rice Tuna that came in (2) pieces for (13.50). The minute I saw that, it made me laugh. Called our server and told her to take that back and remove it from the bill which she gladly did. I thought it was going to be an actual full course rolls. They also have dessert but we didn't order anything. Restaurant was very quaint, limited decor, very busy for Monday mid evening, and was very nice and clean. Total came out to be $95.70 including tax minus the tip. I'm sure they also have a bathroom, but we didn't end up using it. I will return, but not any time soon. They also don't have any Bento Box type of food. Very authentic place to go on a date, friends, family or even dine solo. They also have a Sushi Bar. Alcohol wise, only have beer, wine and sake along with 2 fridges full of cold drinks.. Thank you all very much!!

What he apparently did not notice during this research phase was one fairly major detail: the entire restaurant is vegan. Once he realized it, there was a definite moment of hesitation. I was more in the camp of, "Well, you brought us here. We're committed now." Thankfully, his accidental vegan ramen selection turned out to be a very good one. The space is compact and dimly lit, with dark walls, simple wood tables, and a warm glow throughout. It was packed when we went, which gave the room a lively energy, but it still felt cozy rather than chaotic. Once the bowls arrived, any skepticism disappeared pretty quickly. The broth was much richer and more flavorful than either of us expected, with that creamy, savory quality you want from a comforting bowl of ramen. We both finished ours. I had the No. 9 Truffle Salt Ramen and added fried dumplings to mine. The dumplings gave the bowl a nice crispy contrast, and the truffle flavor came through without overpowering everything else. The funniest part is that neither of us walked in specifically looking for vegan ramen. We just wanted a good bowl of ramen, and that's exactly what we got. Parking is available in the shared plaza lot, but keep in mind those spaces are shared with the neighboring businesses. Street parking is another option if the lot is full. My friend may not have realized he was taking us for vegan ramen, but I'm giving him full credit for the accidental discovery.

Making a reservation was very easy, and everything went smoothly from start to finish. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted right away and seated promptly. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The restaurant is a bit dimly lit, but it really adds to the cozy and upscale atmosphere. One thing I immediately noticed was how clean all of the grills were. We chose the AYCE option (around $55 per person), and the pricing for kids was very reasonable. Our 5-year-old was charged a reduced rate, while our 3-year-old ate free, which was a nice bonus for families. The selection of meats was excellent, with plenty of options to choose from. They do have a 90-minute dining limit and a surcharge for excessive leftovers, but that wasn't an issue for us because everything was delicious. The appetizer selection was surprisingly large. We enjoyed the beef fried rice, noodles, a sushi roll, crispy tofu, chicken karaage, and shiitake mushrooms. The crispy tofu turned out to be spicier than we expected, so just keep that in mind if ordering for kids. However, spice lovers will probably enjoy it! The chicken karaage was a huge hit with the kids, especially with the spicy mayo on the side. The shiitake mushrooms were also incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned. We also ordered crispy rice spicy tuna, we loved it too! What really stood out was the service. Every server we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Instead of simply dropping off food and walking away, they took time to check in, ask how we were doing, and connect with us. That personal touch made the experience feel special. We only ordered water since we had already had plenty of drinks earlier in the day, but they offer a variety of beverages as well. For dessert, we tried the mochi ice cream special--two for $5--which was a fantastic deal. In San Diego, it's common to pay around $5 for just one mochi ice cream, so we were pleasantly surprised. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and are so happy we chose Oku-Niku for my birthday celebration. Great food, excellent service, a family-friendly atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back!
