You Will NOT Be Disappointed! I have tried many "pollo a la brasa" establishments, such as the infamous "El Pollo Rico" and "Ed's Chicken and Steak" who sell in high volumes but can lack in quality. There are many other chicken places on Rt. 1 too but they are not as good. The chicken here is succulent- crispy skin, moist and flavorful meat! Perhaps what I love, love most about this place is their "aji" or salsa verde. This sauce is the perfect companion for your chicken, yucca, fries.... Hell I even bought a container to take home and put it on pizza. It is just that serious!!! Most Peruvian chicken places I have been to typically serve a watery,dark green and what appears to be puréed jalapeños that people think is good. I have frequented Su Pollo many times over the last 5 years that I've worked at Fort Belvoir. The place itself looks a little sketchy to the untrained passerby, but Su Pollo doesn't need to rely on aesthetics to keep customers happy. It's all about the food and after trying several other Peruvian chicken joints in NoVA, Su Pollo is by far my favorite. My usual meal is the 1/4 chicken with a side of yuca. The chicken is always seasoned to perfection and the yuca is always hot and crisp. (NO ONE does yuca better than Su Pollo.) The salad that comes with almost every meal is nothing special, but I like to think of it as a vessel for consuming the white sauce. I always order extra white sauce to dip my yuca in - it's basically a thick ranch dressing, but it's my favorite out of all the variations I've tried elsewhere. I prefer the spicy green sauce on my chicken. The chicken and cheese sandwich is loaded with green peppers and onions and is worth the longer (when compared to the almost instant delivery of the 1/4 chicken) wait. The plantains are a perfect blend of fried crisp and sweet mush. There's also beef and fish options on the menu. Group seating is hit-or-miss. If you show up anywhere near noon, expect a line and limited seating. read more

The food here is amazing! I've been searching for a place that's comparable to Crisp & Juicy in Tyson's and this place is on par. Their yuca is AMAZING. Much better than C&J's. This place was ranked #1 on yelp in the area, so I read a couple reviews. One said that it was the best chicken they had ever had. Being that I am almost 40 and have eaten a lot of chicken in my lifetime, I wanted to see what the rave was all about, so I went. This place was awesome. The guy that took my order was friendly and helpful. I ordered the half chicken with salad and yuca + another side of plantains. I also asked for two white sauces and 1 green. 5 minutes later my number was called. The food was piping hot so I started with the salad. Nothing special but the dressing was good. Next, I tried the yuca. Noticeably better than any yuca I had before--thick pieces and tender with just the right amount of salt. Next came the chicken--tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. BEST CHICKEN I HAVE EVER HAD!! No lie. And dipping it in the sauces was an added bonus. Unbelievable... if you are in the area, check this place out. read more

You don't need to look anywhere else for excellent Peruvian pollo a la brasa. This place has perfect rotisserie chicken in just about any portion you want; you can even get a whole chicken if you felt like it. Their sides should be explored too. Their yucca is golden fried and piping hot & 1 serving is enough for 2 to share. I am in love with the black beans, with just enough of that 'bean' juice dripping from it. Their yellow rice goes nicely with the chicken and their plantains are a sweet offset to the savoriness of it all. It can be a bit of a wait, but its totally worth it & the staff are pretty helpful too. Look, I come from the midwest where we don't have diversity in our food choices. I've never been to a Peruvian chicken joint despite them being sprinkled all over NoVa. Luckily, I put on my adventurous face tonight and we grabbed a bite at Su Pollo. Want my impressions? One word: Mmmmm I had the Milanesa de Pollo which is a fried chicken breast with fries, rice, and a simple salad; while my lady ordered Arroz Chaufa which is fried rice, eggs, and chicken combined. As I went to grab a table and watch some TV en espanol, my girlfriend watched them cook the food and was very happy to see them whip everything up right then and there. It goes without saying, but the chicken was delicious. What surprised me, however, was how terrific the fries and the sauces that come with the meal were. That green sauce in all the pictures has the perfect kick. I don't know if I was supposed to dip the chicken in it, but that's sure what I did and it was glorious. My girlfriend's dish was also great. It was a more complex taste which was spicy but also quite sweet. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to stealing a few bites off her plate. This was my first foray into Peruvian chicken and it's got a good chance of being a go to place in the future. My only complaint is that the price was a little more than I'd like to pay and you do have to wait a little while for your food. Love this place! Chicken is juicy and the yucca is perfectly cooked, and the portions are very generous. The lomo saltado is also pretty damn good and the portions are big. By the way, I eat a lot. Most importantly, the green (aji verde) sauce that comes with the chicken here is hands down the absolute best!!! I guarantee no other Peruvian or "pollo a la brasa" joint around town can compete with Su Pollo's green sauce. It is like that! The sauce is a little spicy but not too much.
