Was looking for some affordable eats while working in this area. Lots of reviews pointed to the Philly Chesesteak and of course I gotta try it. I got a full chesesteak with a medium combo. I would suggest getting half chesesteak with the combo b/c it was a very filling lunch. Beware, the chesesteak comes out piping hot! burnt my tongue while eating this haha. Such a great casual place for a quick bite. It's a small family owned restaurant and the owner always greets me with a big smile and wave, so heart warming. I've only tried their Turkey burgers (add avocado) and philly cheese steak sandwiches and they are always delicious! I heard their Western bacon cheeseburger is also good. This is a family owned small eatery here in Culver City, The fast food is Really good ! You can't go wrong with anything you get here! Been coming here for years and always satisfied with the food and service, they also sale lotto tickets! You can phone in your order too! No complaints with this place other then yeah the meat isn't seasoned at all but the overall flavor is still good and worth going back. The resturant itself is HUGE and SUPER CLEAN. I mean you cab see the kitchen when ordering and the floors are SPOTLESS and the griddle are ALWAYS clean. Nice place to enjoy a nice meal. I would for sure eat here again and again. The guy who helped me was an older Asian guy and his teeth were SO white, straight and beautiful. Lol just a side note. For sure trying a burger and getting another Philly when I return. Been a long time since I lived on this side of town, and out shopping with my GF, discovered I had need of a cheeseburger. She suggested Submariner as she's known the place for ages. Hot and juicy cheeseburger with just the right balance of ketchup and mustard, and a side of super crispy fries. Man, it hit the spot. Wow!! Surprisingly very good. I came in here a couple months back and since then I've been a couple times. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming which makes for a good experience. The prices are reasonable. My favorite is the chicken tenders with BBQ sauce and their yummy crinkle cut seasoned fries with ranch. The only bummer is parking, but honestly that's all of LA for you. I'm always in the search for a good cheesesteak and there are so few places in West L.A. but somehow Submariner slipped past my radar until recently. Called ahead and ordered a Philly cheesesteak with fries and a small teriyaki chicken bowl. The friendly guy taking my order told me it would be ready in 15 minutes, and when I arrived 15 minutes later, it was there, bagged up and ready to go. Limited parking is available in the back but I snagged a spot off Greene Ave. So in terms of food, I have to say that this cheesesteak is definitely one of the best I've had in West L.A., alongside Harvey's in Palms, a similar local sandwich shop. The cheese was melty and juicy, the meat was hot and tasty, and the bread was soft but not overly soggy. The fries were excellent and stayed crispy even after undergoing a 10 minute drive home. The teriyaki chicken was also quite delish- I got it with broccoli and mushrooms, and while I didn't have much room for it after I finished the cheesesteak, it's waiting in my fridge to be microwaved up for lunch tomorrow. In short, if you live in the area, Submariner is a great example of a local restaurant that we honestly need more of- affordable, delicious, friendly, and family-run. This place is nearby my office and I love the home town feeling of the building. It has definitely changed owners several times over the years. It is very nice and clean though, not sticky like it might seem from the outside. I got a solid cheesesteak there and it was exactly what I wanted when I ordered it. Fries were under cooked however. Still had that starchy taste. I kept trying different areas of the fries to see if any were edible, but it was just disappointment all around. This was my first time coming here, and I saw lots of people order the beef teriyaki, so I'm going to try that next time. I trust them to make the food pretty good. Submariner is one of the last mom and pop ran dive restaurants around on the Westside. This place hold so much sentimental value since it was one of my go-to places to hang out when I needed homework done after school when I attended junior high. Til this day, I order food from there not only because they make good food but I love supporting local neighborhood mom and pop establishments. There are not too many around anymore and I love helping places like this stay in business. The food is not the healthiest but it's unbelievably good! Their Teriyaki Sub is my favorite thing to order here. Their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich is also a crowd pleaser. But my absolute favorite thing to order is their Crinkle Cut French Fries! Straight hot out of the fryer, soft and fluffy in the inside and crispy and crunchy exterior...makes my mouth every time I think about it!! The owners are super friendly and kind people. They know how to treat their customers right. They have never been rude to me so I have no complaints. Price is affordable. Parking is limited behind the building, but there is plenty of street parking on Gilmore and Centinela. I give it a full five stars all around!
