Do not underestimate the omelet. Came in on a Friday for breakfast with a friend. There was room at the bar so we were seated there. The place isn't big, so be prepared to sit at the bar if it is busy. The service was quick and kept our coffee and water full. So I had heard that their pancakes were great, but I really wanted one of their omelets, so I ordered both. Lesson learned, that is waaayyyy too much food. I swear the omelet was at least 5 egg. You then add in all the meats and veggies and cheese... thats a 2 meals right there. The omelet was good, can't really mess up scrambling some eggs, right? The pancakes were thin and wonderful. Really, really like this place. The atmosphere is excellent, definitely giving you the old school diner type of feel. The staff is friendly and if you happen to be there when the owner comes around, sit back and enjoy it. He is a riot and tons of fun to be around. You will find him passing out samples (which is a nice bonus!) and interacting with all of the customers. They won me over with giant fluffy omelets, wispy thin pancakes, cute rubber duckies to bring home (doesn't matter what your age, they give you a chance to pick one!), and reasonable prices! A quaint little dinner type place that has been a local hot spot for a while. This was my first time back in a long while. I will probably be back but I will have to rethink what I order. I was surprised how high the prices were. $12 for coffee and an omelet seemed high. But the omelet was huge. I could not finish it. I may have to order something special or off the kids menu next time. The food was good but they need some selections for people under 200 lbs. In Cincinnati for vacation. This place was recommended to us. We ordered a build your own omelette with cheese and veggies, grits, has browns and biscuits and gravy. The omelette was incredible. Tons of cheese and peppers. Light and fluffy. Also comes with buttered English muffins which were great. Everything else was mediocre at best. The grits and gravy were both lacking in flavor. Very bland. The hash browns were basic browns and OK with some salt and pepper. I left full and satisfied. It's good for a quick bite and has a nice 5os throwback feel. We did the yelp breakfast challenge on our long weekend in Cincy. Tried Tuckers, Blue Jay and finally Sugar n' Spice. Well like most things we saved the best for last. Were were wowed by how good both the omelet and scrambled eggs were. Very fluffy with a great flavor. The omelet was huge and looked like a giant burrito it was easily 3" high. I had the slaughter house five which was more than filling. The owner was fun going around handing out small trinkets. I got a nice football stress ball. Great breakfast definitely worth the twenty minute wait. In our humble opinion based on our limited 3 day weekend Sugar and Spice is the king of breakfast in Cincy! read more

Went here on a snowy morning and wasn't impressed, waited a good 40 minutes which is fine if there were places to wait or sit. Granted it was packed but they don't have much space for a busy place to wait to be seated especially when it's FREEZING and snowing outside. We waited in our car. Ordered an omelette and it was dry..not much flavor. Had their pancakes that are as thin as paper- good but you would have to eat 20 to maybe feel full, I had 3 so it was just not impressing. What a nightmare. I have never seen such a comedy of errors. First it takes forever for someone to take your order. Then I kept watching folks get food served in phases...not unusual for 15 minutes after other food delivered. One table had food delivered over 30 minutes from first to last. I am not kidding. Then nearly everyone would wait a really long time to get a check. Then same thing happened to the two of us. First order came out after a very very long wait...and it was barely lukewarm (prob because it sat too long awaiting rest of order that never came). Then my order came out 10 minutes later. Warm, but when you wait that long, the order shouldn't be screwed up. English muffin not even toasted and hash browns ordered crispy were pale and limp. The gyro omelet was amazing!!! One of the best omelets I have ever had. The decorations and staff are also top notch. I have not found a better or bigger omelette anywhere......you could easily split one of these concoctions. I recommend a Cincinnati classic Goetta and Cheese. For other omelettes, the more ingredients you choose the girthier the omelette becomes. The Whispy Thin pancakes are simply delicious. Disappointed. I don't think I understand what the hype is about. We drove 30 minutes to try this place. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing good either. Just average. We got the pancakes - their specialty. Taste just like pancakes I make at home. Coffee is normal - like folgers or something. Bacon wasn't tasty. Service was average, at best. I eat here once a month and I love everything about it: Connect Four, ducks, omelettes, hash, home fries, bites of dessert, and coffee every time our server passes. Sugar and spice and some things are nice. Ok this was my 4th attempt fto get breakfast here and finally we got in with out an hour wait. The place is filled with rubber duckies and old school toys. The food is your average diner menu and the quality was pretty good. My biggest problem is the entrance/ hostess area is awful. They have enough room for about 6 people to wait for a table. This is also the same spot you go to pay. It gets pretty tight in there. I'd love to eat there more often as it was pretty cheap but it's never worth that wait. They either need to expand or move locations because that building is hurting business. read more

The Yelp reviews on this place looked solid so I packed the two kids in the car and off we went on the 30 minute drive to Avondale. This place is right near XU's campus, so if you can find that, you can get here pretty easily. Cute exterior slightly reminiscent of the witches house from Hansel & Gretel...the place oozes syrupy charm. The first thing that caught my eye, Salmon Patties, Wings & some other non-traditional options at breakfast! I love not being restricted to sausage & bacon for meat choices! Prices ranged from $12-ish for my Salmon Patty platter (w 2 eggs, potatos & toast), to only $8 for their large breakfast platter that my kids split (2 eggs, 2 choc chip wispy thin pancakes, bacon & potatoes). Add a side of sausage links & an order of 4 wings and we had a veritable buffet! The verdict...everything was outstanding. My son polished off the pancakes in no time and said they were some of the best he's had (he also had a wing and gave them two thumbs up, as do I). The salmon patties were hot, huge and tasty w/a little hot sauce! Between the 3 of us, we managed to polish off everything but the potatoes...we just ran out of space for those! Bottom line, this place is a no-brainer if you live on that side of town, but it's also a must try for Eastsiders like us as it's more fun (did i mention they gave my kids little rubber duckies?!) and has better options than places like First Watch. Omelet big enough for two people to share.Pancakes and waffles very good also. I must have came here on a bad day. Poor wait service, poor food. At one point, our waitress was yelling at someone across the small establishment about quesadillas, and the place got quiet. Really awkward! I was seriously scared of her and scared to say anything bad about the food. My guests thought their food was just okay--the slaughterhouse five and the club sandwich. I got an omelette. It was big and fluffy but there were so few ingredients in it that I broke half of it off because it was nothing but egg. My hash browns were slimy and undercooked; my guests' hash browns were cooked fine. Usually, I would've sent the food back but it took so long to come out and our waitress seemed pissed, so I picked through what I liked. We also had to ask our waitress for sides like butter, sauce, etc. multiple times and she forgot part of my order. Now, other staff members were polite and attentive. They give out free food while you wait for you food to come out--that person was funny! The fried macaroni and cheese was tasty. And our bus boy ended up stepping in to do some of our waitress's job. I will probably never come back, because I ended up not tipping and I'd be scared to face our waitress again. But I could imagine that if you catch this place on a less busy day or time (i.e. not on a weekend during brunch hour) the food quality and attitude would be more consistent. read more
