We drove about 1/2 hour from the east side of Cincinnati, and we had an awesome breakfast! Since it was our first time, we weren't sure what to get. Our server recommended that my daughter and I split an omelette and an order of pancakes (the two most popular things on the menu for breakfast). The food definitely did not disappoint! The pancakes were thin and tasty (just the way I like them). We had the not-so-kosher omelette, and wow - it rocked! The omelette was HUGE and splitting it was a good recommendation. I visited Sugar n' Spice for my first time today, and I enjoyed everything about it. I got a basic breakfast (eggs, hash browns, bacon, pancakes) and everything was cooked to perfection. I typically don't enjoy pancakes, I'm not big on syrup, but the pancakes here seemed too good to pass up and they didn't disappoint. Another big plus of this place is the customer service. While the food was amazing, the service was not. I was very excited to try this place out based off the great yelp reviews but didn't have the experience I hoped I would. We got there around 1 p.m. and it was not crowded at all. The girl at the front counter was rude and in a very unpleasant voice told us where to sit. Def didn't like that but still tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Our waitress didn't really greet us when we sat down at the table and was short with us. Once we got our food she never came and checked on us to make sure everything was ok. I needed something about 10 minutes later and she was no where to be find. Eventually I found her over in the corner at a booth drinking coffee and taking a break! I couldn't believe it. Our food was really good. I had the mexican omelette and my friend had the salmon platter. While we are excited to get our money's worth with the food, I also expect quality service. Only been once. Went for breakfast but it took an hour to get seated to ended up ordering lunch. Ordered the burger and was very disappointed. I knew right away I was eating one of the frozen fully cooked beef patties that could have been reheated in a microwave. Probably a mixture of TVP and ground beef based on the rubbery texture. I have lived in Cincinnati and New York City. Specifically Astoria in New York, a very Greek area with many, many Greek diners. Sugar and Spice is still my favorite. I have had better diner coffee and other better diner foods but still great food. This place is the most charming and fun diner. Great staff. Very diverse crowd which is rare for Cincinnati. Every trip we go on, we make it a point to find independent, hometown restaurants to try. While Sugar N Spice definitely made you feel at home, it was one of the most disappointing overall. They definitely support their community and have great local support (it is very busy and small), but the food wasn't great. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu, but my favorite is the Waffle & Wings. I get the sweet potato waffle, sometimes add pecans, mmmmmmmm!! It doesn't come with their eggs that I HAVE TO HAVE so I order 2 scrambled with cheese. They put shredded cheese on top instead of melting the cheese within the eggs and that sets them off, with a little (or a lot) of hot sauce of course! After reading reviews of breakfast restaurants, we thought this would be worth a shot! We had a 40 minute wait on a busy Saturday morning, but it was worth the wait! This place is a cute little diner, having heard great things I was excited to check it out. The service was friendly and we went right when it opened so there was no wait. I ordered the corned beef hash and was disappointed to find it was straight out of a can, for $10, I would have expected more than canned beef with rehydrated potatoes. It came with an English muffin and eggs which were good. I also ordered a blueberry pancake which was absolutely delicious! My friend ordered a BLT and said it was decent, nothing notable but no complaints. The complementary ducks were a nice touch! read more

Four stars for what Sugar and Spice is... a good ol' diner with great breakfast and good no-nonsense service. It's the kind of place where you immediately feel at home. Sugar and Spice has become our regular Sunday breakfast joint. We always sit at the counter, as we like to chat with the staff and other patrons. We also opt for the counter because you can usually sit down faster (though if your party is more than two people, it's probably just the same to wait for a table). It definitely gets busy, but they try to keep people moving. On occasion I have seen the owner passing out brownies to patrons who had been waiting for a while. I loooove the pancakes. They are delicious and they know how to serve them - hot with butter that's easy to spread and warm syrup. I have yet to venture away from these because I love a good pancake. My husband has yet to venture away from the wings and waffles. Served with a sweet potato waffle, it's delicious. He also usually orders the goetta which is good (I'll usually snag a bite, but he enjoys it much more than I do). Also, and of importance when it comes to a breakfast place, they serve good, strong coffee out of regular mugs (not the tiny kinds like many diners that only give you about four sips). I must have coffee and lots of it in the morning, and this place keeps it flowing. read more
