Had dinner there with my family. I have mixed emotions about my experience because it seemed confusing at first. Their menu is chalk written at the front where you order. I kinda like to see a few pictures. It took me about 30 mins to figure out what I wanted. I was able to locate a paper menu, so that helped. It's cafeteria style, where you walk thru a line. We got the food and had a choice of inside or outside dining. We went outside. We had to grab our own sauces, but paper towels were in table. The food is served on metal trays with paper on them. It was a little strange. Not what I'm used to. The food itself tasted pretty good. There didn't seem to be a whole lot for what you pay for. So I'm mixed about my review. Food was really good - so they deserve a shout out. Prices and initial ordering was a star breaker though. I had a beef sandwich and coleslaw. It was very tasty. No fat in my meat. Bread was amazing. The slaw was ok. I saw some other things there I will try next time. read more

My friend and I walked into Sugarfire Winghaven at 8:55 pm on Friday night and they close at 9. We were completely unaware of what time it was or that they were about to close. The two young women at the cash register gave us mean glares and pronounced that they close in 5 minutes. I said can we just get dessert? They said yes but it needs to be to go. My friend somehow caught the attention of either the chef or manager behind the counter and he was much more friendly and accommodating. He agreed to make my friend the salmon sandwich on the menu and he could choose from any of the remaining side dishes (no fries). That was acceptable to him and I ordered a slice of the key lime pie. The woman at the cash register reluctantly rang us out and said they would not charge for the key lime pie which was very nice. We walked out the door at 9:01 with salmon sandwich, side dish of cauliflower salad, and slice of key lime pie. They had 11 people working there and not a customer in the store. They key lime pie was very good and my friend enjoyed his salmon sandwich but was not too fond of the cauliflower. All in all this was a satisfactory experience other than the attitude of the two women. Having spent most of my adult life in a retail situation I do understand being there all day and having people walk in at the very last minute BUT they can still be friendly and offer to accomodate any customer at any time in some way. read more

My whole family LOVES the food here, but winces at how crowded it gets. We try to go during off-peak hours, or order ahead for take out. That usually works just fine, but not all sides are available through online ordering, orders aren't always ready when predicted, and the order accuracy isn't as good as when we eat in. Recently, we ordered online at 6:30, were given a 7:00 pick-up time, arrived at 7:05, asked for our food, dropped a few dollars in the tip jar and then watched others go through the line and receive their food before we finally asked for our order a second time and eventually received it. Upon finally getting home and opening our wrapped food, I saw that the usually delicious $2.00 bacon I paid for was left off my burger. It was a real disappointment to discover this after having to wait and then drive home. I'll award 4 stars for flavor and quality, but dock one for unreliable service. read more

The intense smokey flavor in all the meats is perfect but then the top of off with their fabulous BBQ sauce.....like the coffee BBQ is to die for but everyone is in love with the the white BBQ sauce. A solid 4 out of 5 stars. Love the way they serve their dine in...on small cookie sheets with a layer of paper. A large variety of BBQ sauces. My Favs: #47, coffee bbq & Carolina Mustard. "Texas Hot"....is not & the white bbq, not so much. The brisket was good and had some nice flavor, the turkey moist without the heavy saltiness of some. The beans excellent and the au gratin red potatoes with creamed spinach were good. The guy behind the counter was efficient and friendly enough but not a stand out encounter. The gal at the register was very friendly. It was clean and inviting. Tables are community style with 6-7 large bottles of sauce and paper towel rolls. You can eat in or out....temps were in the 90s so the AC felt great. It was a good lunch. I wouldn't hesitate to return but wouldn't rush back either. Love the BBQ ! If your in the mood for grilled meat with smoke flavor they got you covered. With that being said they're a BBQ place. Don't get roped into the pie. Bought a whole pecan pie for the holidays and had to throw it out. It was that bad. Stick with Sams and Costco for the whole pies. read more

I was torn on this review so I've sat on my thoughts for several days and come to the conclusion that overall the food is good to very good; but it's probably not the "end all be all" that some are making it out to be. We've visited twice, once on a Saturday right at open (I believe we were third in line) and once on a Sunday towards the end of lunch and this review is an amalgamation of both visits. In both cases I had the same thing - a double burger with ONLY bleu cheese with fries as the side. As far as the burger, there is a bit of a wait on that - at least that was the case both days we were there. Perhaps if it would have been a day where a burger was their "special" that might not have been the case, but I'm fine with waiting a bit for fresh food. In the case of the first visit, the burger was one of, if not the best, burger I've ever eaten and my companion agreed with me when she tried a bit of it. The second visit, it was good, but not great - perhaps the 10 minute drive home caused that, perhaps something else, but it was definitely a step down. The fries, well I personally do not care for them despite what the readers of the Riverfront Times apparently do. The only difference between the two visits were that they weren't as warm on the carryout visit which is to be expected because of the drive, but I didn't like them fresh at the dine in visit. I also did not care for their drink choices as they did not have Coke or Pepsi on fountain, but rather "Ski". I opted for lemonade the first visit (no drink the second time) and it frankly tasted like a weak version of Wyler's to me and I didn't care for it. Now I see people raving about the Ski soda, so perhaps I missed out, but I'm set in my ways and would have preferred Coke or even Pepsi. My companions differed each trip, but they both got brisket with two sides and both were happy with it, although I don't think either of them were huge fans of the fries, the other sides they did get (beans in one case, and slaw in the other) they did both like. If either of them were doing the review they might well go 5 stars and truthfully I was tempted to because the burger was so very good the day we ate there. However, a couple of things brought me down to the four stars I've given. The first being the lack of space, now per their Facebook page they are expanding (at least I thought that's what I saw) and that can only help as it's cramped in there as busy as they are; and I'm not a fan of eating outside with the flies. The second is the pricing. I'm not necessarily saying their pricing is necessarily out of line, I just thought it was a bit higher than perhaps it could be. My burger and fries was I believe $9, their brisket plates were around $13 or so. Although I found those a bargain in relation to the pie $5/$28 for a slice/whole pie... Yes you get what you pay for, and no this is not McDonald's McRibs, so the pricing is a minor complaint, but enough for me to help justify four stars in lieu of five. read more

Sugarfire was my first experience with BBQ over 5 years ago. I haven't found another BBQ place I like better since then! I always get their brisket because it is soooo flavorful. Been to sugerfire numerous times over the past few years and this time they really missed the mark. Ordered about $85 worth of food and I will break down my reasoning for the rating. We ordered a bacon double cheese burger, regular burger with fries. The burgers were overcooked and dry. Fries were good as they usually are. Sides of hashbrowns, slaw,beans were good, no complaints. Ordered 2 lbs. Of brisket and was really disappointing. Very little flavor with next to nothing rubbed on the brisket. The meat itself was really dry. On average the brisket is not bad, but this time it was game over. A rather disappointing experience overall. read more

My wife and I came here on Saturday for the first time. We both had the pulled pork platter which comes with two sides. She had the baked beans and string beans, I had the baked beans and coleslaw. Normally I would say that a good meal at Bandana's is fine by me but the meat here was nothing like you'll ever see at Bandana's ( and yes, I've been to Pappy's. When it's good as it gets, it's as good as it gets ). Moist in the middle with some burnt outside. The sides are very good and for my appetite ( I'm 185 lbs ) too large. I got hooked on the white sauce that my wife picked up. Basically, a creamy, smokey horseradish sauce. I know that it's sacrilege to smother your meat in sauce but I couldn't stop. There was a moderate line that moved fast. I was able to pick up a can of Bud while we waited to get through. The kitchen is open and you can see the guys cutting the meat and serving the sides right in front of you. The prices I found to be very fair. read more

I've been here a couple times recently and each time the meal has been great! I've been getting the 8-oz. turkey platter with baked beans and mixed veggies on the side and I love it. And the veggies have been mixed up a little bit each time, so that's refreshing. The service has been solid and the atmosphere is relaxing. Best BBQ in the Lou. After living in CA for a few years, and never getting any Barbecue worth having, this place was a god send. Perfect smoke saturation and delicious, but not overpowering, sauces.
