Stopped by the Sugarfire off Winghaven on the way home today and got food to go. I ordered the "Meat Daddy" and several sides. I'll start with the meat. The ribs, brisket, pulled pork and turkey were all flavorful and excellent. You're able to take cups of various sauces with you after checkout. I got a couple of each and generally liked them all. Now to the sides...the baked beans were pretty darned good, just the right amount of sweetness. I had some kind of cheesy tater tot meatloaf side which was also surprisingly good. Who doesn't like tater tots, cheese and meatloaf? What didn't I like? The cole slaw was bland and flavorless. It left a lot to be desired. A little more creaminess and flavor would go along way. Two things in life are certain, no one makes better potato salad than my mom and no one on the planet makes better apple pie than my grandma did. So when eating either of those I don't go in expecting much from someone else. In this case the potato salad was bland, could have used just a tiny bit of salt and some pepper. I am also not a fan of celery in potato salad and not a fan of generally mashed up potato type potato salad. The apple pie....the crust was actually very good but the apples themselves were the problem. I am not a fan of people who make apple pie and don't fully cook the apples thus leaving them crunchy. Just not what I personally like, the apples should be fully cooked and not left crunchy. Overall I'd say this place is just slightly above average as the meats and sauces were pretty good. Sides, hit and miss. Dessert...the pie jut wasn't for me. I'd certainly go back, wouldn't be a main got to go to place that I just had to have regularly but I would go back. read more

Stay away from the cheesesteak. It is nothing like a philly. Very very little meat in my case (less than 1 strip of brisket overall). It reminds me of eating cheese whiz straight up as a kid but with a very very acidic taste (so not very balanced). I like sugar fire....but at the time of this meal, I also had their ribs, which are awesome!! But the cheesesteak brought my whole culinary experience to new low. I will not be getting the cheesesteak ever again. The recipe needs to be definitely overhauled before I try this again. read more

We went to Sugarfire Smokehouse in Winghaven today and not only was everything absolutely delicious but they were great about food allergies! I asked immediately To speak with a manager, I told her my son is severely allergic to all dairy and allergic to peanuts, she assured me that he could have the fries, the beans, all the meet, the rub, and all the sauces. She brought me out the rub and the sauce to read the ingredients, and brought the cook out to talk to me to make sure and let me know every ingredient in everything that we were interested in. They used new knife, New gloves, and wrapped meal separate. They were very aware And accommodating with cross-contamination. My son loved it. I highly recommend!!! read more

Trying the place for the first time Heard how good it was. Didn't mind the wait. Ordered the pulled pork plate with beans and smoked tater salad. By the time I got through to pay and took a seat inside, my meat was cold (also fatty). Probably because it was placed on a piece of paper and sitting on a cold metal tray! The beans are over seasoned and the "tater" salad tasted like a regular potato salad with smoked paprika or chipotle mixed in. The only thing that I found good was the sweet tea. Walked in and ordered. Got the meat, but apparently only one person is trained to slop green beans into a container, so we waited until our food was cold to get our sides. Finally someone came over (besides the girl at the cash register, who made it clear she was not going to be bothered to help) and agreed to get the sides for us. I watched in horror as he manhandled the entire container I was going to eat out of with the gloves I watched him wear as he cleaned the store. $50 for three people at checkout. Was hoping it was going to be worth it, but no. The cole slaw was disgusting, and I am NOT picky about it. The meat was obviously cold at this point, but it also lacked any and all flavor. The food is OK. Nothing that made me go "oh wow! I have to come back"... And it's a bit pricy. I ate a burger which had a very thin patty, added mushrooms. It was filling but I expected more meat and more flavor. Boyfriend had half rack and we had two canned beers .. Est. $35.00. I have been to two locations now and that's probably the last visit. Stopped in on way from Minnesota to Nashville for holidays. Guys behind counter were awesome to us. Warm smiles, jokes and samples....I want to thank Rob and the other fella with the visor and crazy hair for making our day. Here's the thing. The meat is good. Very good. I have never had a bad meal here. That being said, a lot of people will make this place out to be mystical. It is not. I smoke meat at home all of the time. Ribs, butts, turkey breasts, briskets, etc., and I would put any of my smoked meats up against Sugarfire's and feel confident that mine would measure up. BUT, if you don't smoke your own meat, it does not get any better than this, and what you can not duplicate at home are the sides, which are all over the top. Bottom line it that if you don't want to spend a day (or more) smoking your own meat or simply do not have the time, this place is great. If you want sides to go with your main course that you will not be able to make at home, Sugarfire is the place for you. read more

I called yesterday to set up a catering order for 80 employees. (80x$11,00+ $880.00) Two meats and 2 sides for $11.00 each which I thought was reasonable. I was then advised a 15% gratuity was going to be added to the bill because it was over $500.00.($135.00) Why? We are not eating in, I am picking up the order. This extra charge in not anywhere on your catering website. Sugarfire had the opportunity to expose themselves to 80 new customers and got greedy. I ordered with their competition. read more

They've definitely got the smoke! And large portions. St. Louis has an abundance of BBQ joints, but you should definitely give this one a try! Large selection of meats, sandwiches and sides. The food is wonderful but the seating is awful. The entire indoor seating area is high top tables, which means no one in a wheelchair or with a baby who needs a highchair can comfortably eat here unless outdoor seating is available and it's the right season. We just walked in at 5:30 and all the outdoor seating was taken, so we had to leave. This is the only thing that keeps us from coming here. We otherwise love it. read more

First I wish there was a grade of 4.5 stars because I would give Sugarfire that grade. First and foremost the food is excellent. My wife had the pulled pork and I had the beef brisket sandwich. Other plates I saw looked really good too. The side I had, potato salad was good, but not great. My wife liked the baked beans. Now the negatives.... The drinks were bad. Sugarfire uses generic, non-name brand soda, the tea was also not good. Also, the syrup/water mixture was off with drinks being watery. I would have thought a place this good would have had enough sense to have good drinks. Whoever they are using, in my opinion is not good. So, this is an excellent place to visit. BUT, I will never get a drink here again. I'll drink water! read more

Excellent!! Brisket was great and huge! I could share a sandwich! The sides are always fresh that morning and lots of great, out of the ordinary choices! The wait can be long, but that's to be expected. They expanded their outdoor seating, which is awesome because indoor seating is very small and cramped. Staff is great and always very friendly!
