    Bowl with uni and hamachi
    Elizabeth S.

We both upgraded for the $28 bowl of uni and a side of hamachi with sauce. It was so worth it - the uni was high quality, we also loved the scallop/shrimp. You can ask for soup on the side if you like drinking it from the beginning of your meal. Otherwise, they will pour it halfway through your meal into your rice bowl. This was the most filling chirashi bowl I've ever had!

The classic kaisendon - $28 offering that comes with yellowtail sashimi with sesame dressing and the classic bowl + ikura and uni. The white rice was warm and plain, not seasoned like sushi rice. The soup that is added when you're around 30 to 50% p the ball that's a lot of flavor. It changes and cooks the fish so it adds a whole new profile. It was good, but nothing mind blowing. 3.4 out of five stars.

4.5/5 Came here on a Sunday night at around 7 with my husband. Waited for around 10min to be seated. The menu was quite small and we ordered the tuna carpaccio to share and 2 of their $28 kaisendon. Since they were out of uni, they allowed us to sub it with any other sashimi that we wanted. All the food tasted amazing. Really liked the yuzu dressing in the tuna carpaccio! It made the dish really refreshing. The hamachi sashimi was also really good with the sesame dressing. The kaisendon was filled with seafood (unfortunately forgot to take a picture!) but I think there was a bit too much rice! Don't get me wrong! They were pretty generous with the seafood but there was just too much rice which made the seafood to rice ratio a little off. The broth that they added to the kaisendon was very umami! I was worried that it would made the fish fishy after adding the broth since that had happened in other places before but it didn't happen here! Overall, a great restaurant! Service was fast and food was great! I probably won't travel to the UES just for this but if you're in the area, I think it's a great spot for some sashimi!

We came right at opening and it wasn't too busy. The inside is dimly lit and was a bit too warm inside. The seating is around a counter and are close together. I thought the rice in the bowl was served too hot and the quality of the fish was just ok. (For context, I recently went to Japan so my expectations might be higher.) The service was quick and friendly. You can ask for soup in your bowl when you're almost done.

I arrived around 1PM with a friend and waited about ~15 minutes for our seats. I had their Fresh From The Sea bowl and was pleasantly surprised that I was actually full after. The meal came with yellowtail on the side and tons of fresh seafood. They're really accommodating with substitutions due to allergies that my friend has. At any point, you can request broth to add to the bowl and the flavor profile changes. It was delicious either way and I'm really glad I got to try it today!

好き です = I like it?!? Simple menu, simple restaurant. It's not very big, but there wasn't a line either on a Saturday. The seats are mini wooden benches and there are pebbles on the ground. Did it used to be a zen garden? Maybe next time I'll use a chopstick to eat it so I can savor each bite and differentiate each fish instead of shoving it in my mouth with the spoon like a shovel. You get two large pieces of hamachi with some mysterious sauce that can be described as the asian ginger salad dressing. There's salmon, tuna, and ikura (the mini dragon balls), crab, and a small piece of uni. The dominant flavor is definitely the fatty salmon. Once you are done eating the fish, they pour some dashi soup on the rice so you can finish the bowl. Even if you sit at the bar, you can't see them preparing the fish unless you are 10 feet tall probably.

Walked in on a Monday night and seated easily for party of 3! This place has a very dim, intimate ambiance that may not be good for large parties but for us it was perfect. Service was super attentive and kind. We tried two apps - the unagi tomago was SO good - egg and sweet egg. The tuna carpaccio was less of a favorite because of the dominating ginger flavor. We opted for the #2 which came with hamachi ($25), highly recommend getting bc that was such a good piece of fish. The bowl is much better with the broth that they add in the end, warm miso umami flavor!

Very intimate, cozy setting for donburi bowls. The fish felt very fresh with a good ratio of rice to fish. I actually wish I had gotten the fresh from the sea bowl like my friend had gotten but I actually got the right of the flame. The broth and soy sauce here are my standouts. Halfway through they tell you to get some of the broth and it was so delicious. Really packed with flavor. I also tried the yuzu cheese cake and really enjoyed this as well. My one gripe is that it's a touch dark, as it in the lower level. There's also nowhere to hang your coat / any of your items. I they could do with some hooks under the table.

My friend and I have been waiting so long to try this - I didn't get the chance to go to Tsujihan in Japan and have been thinking about it since! This is a little out of the way for me, and I somehow randomly would get the opportunity to go but it would fall between the hour break they have in restaurants hours - closed between 3 and 4PM. We finally made the time to go on a Saturday, arriving at about 5:20PM. I think we got super lucky due to the timing and it being Thanksgiving weekend - people were busy shopping or out of town! It's a very small and dimly lit space - there's about 6-7 counter seats and 2 small tables for 4 people max in the back. There was only 1 other party besides my friend, her baby, and I, and the staff were very kind about accommodating to the stroller. My friend's baby is a very sweet calm 1 year old but I feel like I'd probably avoid bringing baby if it's a thought - it's pretty dark and not too exciting a place given it's dark. That being said it was such a cute experience - you scan the menu QR code and they have the Chirashi bowls along with a selection of apps from fresh fish to an unagi tamago option, so def an option in case anyone doesn't want raw fish. We chose the Fresh from the Sea for $28 so we got the uni option! It was a no brainer for us really. The bowl is beautiful and came super fast, and we drizzled some sauce before mixing it a bit to enjoy. It's pretty good as its, but I wouldn't say it was especially tasty - the rice is plain warm rice and not sushi rice. The real turning point is when the waitress comes back halfway with the broth, and you add the yellow tail they give you on the side to the ricey broth and it is so so so good, and has so much flavor than without the broth. We were in and out really quickly so if you do happen to need to wait, I'd say go for it! The turnaround time doesn't seem too bad. Overall such a good experience and I'm glad I came but it's just small enough and out of the way enough for me to not able to frequent.

I had a delightful lunch here! Walked in around 1:30 pm on Sunday and got a seat. Seating is available at the counter and a couple of tables in the back. I got the $25 bowl which came with a sashimi appetizer! Overall great deal for the food. I enjoyed mixing the broth in my bowl halfway. The staff were all really nice! Come here to get your seafood fix! Really fresh and delicious

I came by Suki Desu for an early Sunday dinner recently. Our party of 2 didn't have a reservation, but when we arrived around 5:30 there were still many seats available at the bar. The ambience is not the most inviting in my opinion -- it's rather dark and it did feel rather cramped (not much space to put our bags anywhere), but it did feel very intimate to be seated very close to the chefs preparing our food. We both ordered the 2nd tier of "Fresh from the sea" ($25 level), which on top of the fish rice bowl, also came with a side of 2 slices of hamachi with sesame dressing. The bowl was really delicious, and the lovely presentation was the cherry on top. The fish was all so fresh (I loved the salmon), and I thought it was nice how well the yummy daikon and cucumber veggies complemented the fish once mixed in. The broth they added to the rice ~halfway through our meal (a more-savoury version of miso) was lovely, but I think it did drown out some of the intrinsic fish flavours. You can ask them to have the broth on the side, which I think I'd prefer (and mix the rice in separately). The hamachi slices were not bad too, but I did think the sesame dressing was a bit heavy and covered up some of the mildly/fatter flavour of the fish. I also thought the price difference between the first and second tiers of the "Fresh from the sea" was a bit high for just adding the hamachi side. Service was very prompt and attentive overall -- we got our food quickly, and they were helpful with explaining/offering the extra broth and refilling our water. Overall, this was a yummy meal, and I would want to come back again -- but next time I'd probably opt to just order the $20 version :)

Overall: 4/5 Food: 4/5 - Walked in on a saturday afternoon and got the Fresh from the sea (#3), the unagi bowl and the mixed tartare. The bowls were both pretty good and the fish tasted fresh with no fishy smell. Service: 5/5 - The server was friendly but nothing out of the ordinary. Value: 4/5 - The total ended up being around $80. I thought the price was fair but didn't like how the lowest tip suggestion is 20%. This alone I think would make me not want to come back as the food and value were not good enough to warrant going out of the way to have a meal here. I came here with high expectations after seeing many posts about the restaurant and thought the food was good but nothing extraordinary or worth coming back for. I am glad I tried it out but I don't think I would necessarily come back !

Suki Desu appreciates the freshness of seafood and the art of Japanese culinary presentation. Things you should know: I. SERVICE Excellent and timely. The waitress was observant about timing when to pour broth into our rice bowls ~ we really appreciated that small detail. II. QUALITY Fresh fresh fresh! We didn't even touch the sauces, the seafood was so delicious on its own. Presentation was beautiful. III. CAPACITY We went on a Wednesday at lunch hours and were able to be seated without a wait. I would recommend going when we did ~ the seating accomodations are slim.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

Now, having said that although the food was decent, there were a couple of questionable choices in the overall presentation and plating and the sauces that accompany the black cod bento box I ordered, which did not actually come in a box. Everything is brought out piecemeal so you don't get an actual meal before you, but a lot of little plates brought out at different times, kinda like the Japanese equivalent of Tapas. We have been to this location twice, hoping the first time was a fluke, and trying to give them a chance only for the second time to be worse. The waitstaff is entirely disengaged from the customers. They rush you through the order process and don't explain any of the menu offerings, such as what is the difference between the different platter options. When they do come over, you are greeted with the sweetness and warmth of an unemotionally flat "What do you want?" After you get your food, no one comes over to refill water and cups are initially filled halfway with too much ice. No one comes over to remove plates afterward, and they definitely show no interest in finding out if you are enjoying your meal in the least. The booth we were sat at had not been cleaned after the last party's use so there was sauce all over, and it got on the back of my pants, which I later discovered while walking home...the joy. After eating comes the best part, they come over with these tablets outlining your check on the screen. Meanwhile, the tablets are strapped to their bodies the entire time. They don't allow you to scrutinize the charges in peace, no, they stand there impatiently for the duration either swerving from side to side of tapping their foot signaling discomfort that you're taking way too long. The funny part is the straps have clips to remove the tablets so it's not like it's impossible to leave the tablet and come back shortly. The whole process feels very rushed and pressurized for you to tip with one of the predetermined button selections, which start at 25%. Ummm, service sucked so no, we're definitely NOT starting there. I guess now we're both disappointed. Eventually, you get no paper receipt for your records even if you ask for it to be printed. And the whole time, the waitstaff is with you judging you on your tipping and not even being graceful enough to restrain their reaction. So no, not going back, and definitely would not recommend as a place to have a good time. Now, if you're looking for an uncomfortable experience served by someone that completely ignores you during your entire time there and expects an exorbitant tip to boot, then yes, this is the place for you!
