So many good choices to choose from and the Taro and mango bingsoo did not disappoint!!!! The Taro bingsoo was our favorite! It has soft, melt in your mouth snow with layers of Taro powder, red bean and mochi on top, sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes! Simply the best. The toasted coconut flakes were different. It gave the dessert some texture and complimented the Taro more than I thought it would! Also the Taro bingsoo is sweeter since it has all the fun toppings so try it before you add the condensed milk (served on the side)! I was very excited to see that Sul & Beans has a location in Irvine because it is my absolute favorite place to get Bingsoo. I always get the Strawberry flavor because I love the taste of the fresh strawberries with shaved ice. I have been to the Buena Park location multiple times but what makes this location different is that you can go up to the countertop and they will refill the side of condensed milk as many times as you want. I went on a Friday night and they were extremely busy but the service was still fast. There is limited seating inside and outside so you could end up waiting for a table to clear up. Love this place! My go tos are always the injeolmi, fresh starwberries and you cant go wrong with matcha either. They give you condensed milk on the side but i dont usually use it. Its perfect as is. They also put layers in the ice inside so even if you eat all the toppings youll still have flavor underneath. I also really like the toast too. The sweet potato one has a sweet potato mousse type thing inside with mochi and sprinkled with injeolmi. Its so under rated but so worth it! I love oakobing in LA and still think it's superior, but the bingsoo at sul and beans is also really good and hits the spot. Mango - 10/10 so amazing and yummy. From LA to Irvine, Sul & Beans is here!! Finally a new dessert spot to indulge and hang out late in Irvine. Yes, this shop closes at 11pm and not 8pm like everywhere else in Irvine! Sul & Beans is located in DJ Plaza and took over what used to be Kona Coffee. The interior is minimalist and clean. There are about 5-6 tables inside and a few tables along the perimeters of the store outside. We came today, Wednesday for an early dessert at 5:30pm and all the tables were already full! However, no lines to order. Luckily as we were ordering, a party finished up and vacated a table. Win!! Staff was nice and friendly. There were about 6 staff behind the counter and they all greeted guests who entered and exited the store enthusiastically! We ordered injeolmi bingsoo and injeolmi toast combo for $16. Portion was average. I could finish a bingsoo myself! The injeolmi (glutinous rice cakes or Mochi) bingsoo and toast were delicious! The bingsoo is served with a side of condensed milk and adds a bit more sweetness to the shaved ice. I can't wait to come back and try the other flavors!! This place gets packed especially on weekend nights! Go early or order ahead! They have a very organized system for seating as you have to check in first if you want to either sit inside or outside. Then they give you a buzzer and buzz when table is ready. After you get table, can order. Phew! Staff is friendly and helpful, and man do they work quickly to make the sul and bus tables! Because we went earlyish on a Saturday night (before 8pm), we managed to just miss the after dinner crowd. Even though it was a little chilly outside, it didn't deter customers from lining up and getting their desserts on. Most of their sul aka snow options are milk based, and cannot remove or substitute. I had to ask because both me and my niece are lactose intolerant and had to prepare with a lactaid tablet prior to consumption. After ordering, the wait was short, and the suls looked divine. The milk base wasn't overpowering and the sul was the perfect texture. Fruit was fresh and sweet, as both the watermelon and strawberry are in season. Hello summer!! There are a few other locations, and think there's one that just opened up in the Bay Area in Cupertino so looking forward to checking that out. The shaved ice also melts inside your mouth, and it kinda reminds me of Snowdays which is my favorite shaved ice in New York. We got the fresh strawberry bingsoo and it came with so many strawberries. We also got the green tea toast, which was delicious but it just came on regular bread so I was less impressed by it. Super cute decor inside as well! Only thing is that it is pretty popular so I would expect a wait when you go. We went on a Thursday evening and there was a 20-30min wait for two people. One of my favorite shave ice places! Sul & Beans is located in DJ so it does it very very busy. I usually try to get to go if the wait is too long, but I would say it's worth the wait! There's not much seating in stores and definitely not great for a large group of people. My favorites are their mango and earl grey. I've also had their injeolmi toast which I have also enjoyed. Their latte is not overly sweet, but also doesn't have a prominent coffee taste. Overall I'd highly recommend if you're looking for a nice dessert place. read more

Finally a decent bingsoo place in Irvine right on time for hot summer days!! Sul & Beans is located in DJ where Kona Loa Coffee used to be. They have an employee regulating the waitlist for dine-in. They do offer in door and out door seating. There was a bit of a wait when I went, but it went by quickly. I ended up ordering the Milk Bingsoo and the Cheese Ingeolmi Toast. The Milk Bingsoo came with mochi, red beans, and condensed milk. I love the big mochi pieces it comes with. The bingsoo was so light, fluffy and refreshing to eat. I also liked how you're able to get more condensed milk up in the front if needed. The Cheese Ingeolmi Toast was yummy too. It has a chewy mochi center and crispy texture on the outside with melted cheese on top. It was a good balance with the bingsoo. Earl Grey! Need I say more? We went last night (a party of 10), and the place was packed! Nonetheless, we were able to find in-door seating within 10 minutes, and we enjoyed their Green Tea, Mango, Strawberry, and Earl Grey bingsoos. All of them were amazing, but here's my order and how I ranked them: 1. Earl Grey - Perfect amount of sweetness, richness, and flavorness to this one! With every bite from the beginning to the end, you're left craving more and don't want to stop eating. I loved it even more when we put the condensed milk on top because it added that extra layer of creaminess to the bingsoo. 2. Mango - The typical, most popular bingsoo that we normally order. This one was also delicious and had those rich flavors, but comes in as a close second because that earl grey was toooo good to beat. 3. Strawberry - Normally, this would rank equally with mango, but I found the strawberries to be a bit raw and hard this time around. Normally I would dock off a star for something like this, but this is my first time experiencing this at this particular location (I've been here at least 10 times). 4. Green Tea - I really enjoyed their green tea flavors, but I didn't enjoy their red beans. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the presentation looked like a can of dog food was placed on the bingsoo. Like, it literally looks like a small can of red beans was opened and placed on top of the shaved ice. Also, I felt like there were way too many red beans... they should only put half of the amount they did. I've heard good things about the other locations of Sul & Beans, and so glad there is now one in Irvine! Located in Diamond Jamboree next to the Korean BBQ chicken and Pho Saigon. The signage is cute and minimalist, but TINY! Came with girlfriends on a Saturday night for some after dinner dessert and Diamond Jamboree was insanely crowded. Sul & Beans was already pretty full, but we managed to snag a corner table. Ordered the mango bingsoo and taro bingsoo, but wanted to try them all! There was black sesame, green tea, watermelon, strawberry.... just to name a few. The presentation is really pretty, and the shaved snow is delicious! The shaved snow is super light and fluffy, and everything just blends together really well. The taro bingsoo is just taro powder topped on regular shaved snow (instead of being taro shaved snow). It came with toasted coconut flakes, red bean, and mochi. Delicious but do wish the whole thing was more taro. My friend said the green tea one has the green tea blended into the shaved snow, so will try that one next time. The mango one was super refreshing and delicious! Huge chunks of mango drizzled with condensed milk. It was a nice mix to get one Asian sweet bingsoo and one fruity, refreshing bingsoo. This place is soooo good! They primarily serve shaved ice, and my favorite is the mango one. The shaved ice is actually shaved frozen milk, which makes it really flavorful. They also have some condensed milk on the side to make the dessert more rich. Really refreshing when it's hot outside! The portions are also quite big, so two can have a go at a single serving easily. They have cute tables and the interior design is quite sleek so it's a nice environment to be in. What a refreshing addition to Diamond Jamboree! The interior space is beautifully designed with that minimalistic aesthetic paired with natural textures/elements. Lots of clean lines and natural light flowing in the airy space. Seating is limited, but they have options for indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived mid-afternoon so the wait was minimal. They do have somebody at the door to assist with waitlist, so you're not left hanging. If you choose to dine-in, it's self service. You place your order and then pick up when ready. Menus are located right by the cash wrap, so I recommended browsing in advance and knowing what you want since menu visibility is limited. For us, we looked at Yelp photos of the menu to narrow down our options rather than crowd around the cashier lol. We decided to go with the Earl Grey Bingsoo to pair with the Black Seasme Injeolmi Toast. The shave ice was incredibly fine in texture and the earl grey flavor was subtle. It had a whipped cheese cream topping and graham cracker crumbs. The toast was a nice balance of crispy crust and chewy center. The black sesame here was very light as well and actually goes great with the shave ice. With just a few weeks from their opening date, they still have some kinks to work through. There was a small mix up on our order where they made black sesame shave ice instead of a toast, but they didn't communicate when it would be remade since they took our notification buzzer. We had to keep our eyes peeled and ask if the one that was on the counter was ours or not. Additionally, they have a section toward the back to drop off trays, but all the shelves were full. I had to make space since it didn't seem like this was paid much attention to. Overall though, I am excited to come back and try more flavors. This took over the corner spot, previously, Kona Loa coffee at the ever so busy Diamond Jamboree center. There is actually a waitlist to be seated (both inside & patio) and a separate line for the to go orders. For our party of 4, they recommended we share 2 of their most popular ones. The mango & the taro... ask for extra cream / milk on the side if you want yours a little more liquidy. Flavors are great. The mango is refreshing. Been to other Sul and Beans locations, but stopped by this location as we were nearby. It was pretty crowded inside, so we sat outside. We ordered 3 bingsoos, but they mixed up our 2 bingsoos. There was green tea ice cream in the mango bingsoo, and mangoes in the green tea bingsoo. I specifically asked to hold the red beans on the green tea bingsoo, but they totally disregarded this and placed it on top. It's not a big deal if mango and green tea are mixed, but wasn't feeling it today. The injeolmi bingsoo was very bland at this location today, and pretty much all shaved ice and very little powder and injeolmi. Although quite disappointing, when we mentioned it to the staff, they offered to make new bowls for the mix up. That was a kind gesture, so was appreciated. Since we declined, they gave us a refund for the 2 bingsoos. Busy parking lot usually since it is a plaza with many new eateries. There is a parking garage towards the back though. I've been here more than a few times and I absolutely love the Bingsu here. I think it rivals many places that make Bingsu in Irvine. My personal favorite is the strawberry cheesecake. My one con is that sometimes you get a lot of fruits and sometimes you don't. My other note would be that usually if you're going in the evening, there's never any seating available. My love affair with bingsu is so real I'm willing to eat it during winter!! This location is clean and has a modern/minimalist aesthetic. My only complaint is that the chairs are so fucking uncomfortable bc there is no back support. Also, for some reason, they are pretty stingy with the condensed milk. You're supposed to drizzle one cup of condensed milk over each bingsu, but even though I ordered 2 bingsus they only gave us 1 cup of condensed milk and told us to return it to them for more condensed milk. wtf ?lol make it make sense... I got the green tea flavored one and it was delicious. Green tea tasted authentic and the ice just melts on your tongue! They give a generous amount of red bean on top alongside four slices of mochi and some sliced almonds and dried jujube slices. The texture of the shaved ice may not be as smooth as some other spots, but it still has a light and airy quality to it. I really do like the interior design here as it reminds me of Korea (love the greenery), and appreciate the ample seating options. My friend and I ordered the Strawberry Shaved Ice, which came topped with a ton of strawberries, and a sweet, fruity glaze. For the food itself, we ordered both the Fresh Strawberry bingsoo and the Taro bingsoo with red bean. Both were super refreshing and great to eat on such a warm day. I personally preferred the strawberry, but my sister and mom preferred the taro, which wasn't as sweet and came with coconut flakes. This place was poppin' and bumpin' on Friday night. I purposely went there past 10 p.m. so the parking would open up and the line die down. Even so, there was going to be a 25-30 minute wait, but luckily for us, the people before us were no shows, so we were seated inside within 10 minutes. The host was super friendly and nice. I asked him about drink recs while we were waiting, and he gave me plenty of good recs and descriptions. We ordered the mango bingsoo which was refreshingly delicious. It had plenty of mangoes. I'm so happy they did not skimp on the mangoes. Nice big chunks! And, how do they get their "snow" so snowy?! The texture of that snow is incomparable to other snow places. Other places have a more crushed ice texture. I prefer what they have here as it's softer, creamier, and more palatable to my taste. The one mint leaf adds a nice subtle taste of mint to the mango bingsoo. The portion was large enough to satisfy my two kids and me. It honestly could feed four. We also got 5 pieces of the taiyaki in all four flavors: sweet potato, red bean (x2), Nutella, and custard. It's pretty much the same as SomiSomi's taiyaki. I remember trying their taiyaki at the Buena Park location a long time ago, and it was so much better: crispier and tastier. I also ordered the iced vanilla latte. It needed a little more sweetener, so I just added the extra sweet cream/milk they provided for the bingsoo into my drink, and it was fine. I didn't want to make a big deal because it was late, and they were still busy. They were working really hard, and I didn't want to mess up their flow. The coffee itself tasted good, a bold flavor. (It tasted better than Starbucks. Their lattes are sugary and have too much milk where I can't even taste the coffee.) Fun place to come with friends. My favorite go-to bingsoo / korean shaved ice spot! I always order the strawberry cheese and the condensed milk drizzle is the cherry on top. This is located in the Diamond Jamboree plaza so parking does get a bit difficult sometimes. But vast seating (indoor + outdoor), quick service, and good vibes.
