Went for a duo birthday dinner on labor day with my friend and we ordered two filet mignon. Server was hard to wave down for wine refills even with a nearly empty restaurant. Two steaks come out of the kitchen, doesn't look like our order but who are we to say? Steak is steak and we were hungry. My buddy starts to cut into his and the server rushes back over and pulls the plates from our table. They tell us sorry, not our order, and we tell them we already cut into one. They ignored this and still brought the steaks to the other table. We were appalled, and our steaks took another 10 minutes on top of the bait and switch. Waygu beef was no better than a skirt steak, heavily seasoned to provide even a modest taste. It was advertised as a special with porcini mushrooms which they forgot. Ordered the steak medium well it came rare, seems like a recurring problem here based on other reviews. The augratin potatoes were frozen in spots hot in others. The herb brick chicken was cold, as in refrigerator cold. Waitress never checked on us to be able to correct anything. We barely touched any of the dishes, one would think the waitress would have inquired as to why? Nope just shoved a $200 bill at us and disappeared. Find another option! Met some work friends who were visiting from out of state here. I don't normally go for this kind of place but we had great food, service, we talked for 3 hours. My husband and I had the tomahawk steak and lobster and side dishes. Our friends had the 'sure thing'. Service was quick, food was brought out soon. Nope. Thought I'd come here since everyone talks about it, and really hoped it'd be a good steakhouse. Decided to do some big balling and order the Wagyu strip (like $75) and asked for it to be medium. Instead I got this thing almost Blue. Had barely any seasoning, had to salt and pepper it a ton to make up for lost flavor. Despite the color, it was dry and barely juicy. At least the Cheesesteak Eggrolls were ok. Our experience was wonderful. An excellent meal and my favorite was the sweet potato casserole. My filet was cooked wonderfully. My husband's ribeye was cooked wonderfully. His ribeye was a bit tendon-y, which did have its challenges during the meal but overall, we will return. The hibiscus cosmopolitan was a nice refreshing cocktail. Very lovely atmosphere and our server was very polite and kind. I wish I remembered her name. I'll start by saying, the steak that I had at Sullivans was one of the top five steaks I've ever had in a restaurant. Of course, at that price, it should be, but considering where we were, it was still nice to get a good piece of meat cooked as requested. The wife had the filet and I went with the ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly and as I said before, one of the best. Very tasty and tender. I also opted for the bacon and bleu cheese topping. The asparagus that came out was a little cold and bland, and while we didn't make a fuss about it, it would have been nice to get it hot and at least seasoned a little. Service was prompt yet not overbearing. While the primary server was talkative and polite, the lady who plopped our food on the table without a word was less of a delight, but Im not going to let that spoil an otherwise very good meal. Not sure I've been such a poorly managed restaurant before. We sat in the bar while waiting on a couple friends to land at the airport. From the moment we sat down the waitress loudly complained about her workload, management, general satisfaction with her job. It was very uncomfortable. We orders a few small things and moved on to another restaurant for a better atmosphere. Her colleagues commiserated audibly but handled the stress better and more professionally. We went back to Sullivan's for the first time in two years and they have definitely upped their game since the last visit. The hosts were so sweet and personable. We sat grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. It was such a busy night we were lucky to even get a seat at the bar, but the bartenders were still quick to check on us and were so friendly. Our server was Sebastian and he was absolutely amazing! The steak was cooked a little more than we asked for and the sparkling wine wasn't very cold but other than that everything was perfect. They had some fun new items on the menu too that we definitely want to try. The only thing they can improve on is bussing. The bartenders and servers were all so busy, the bar wasn't getting cleaned quickly and plates weren't being cleared quickly at any table (not just ours). I'm not sure I saw a busser the entire night, it looked like it was up to the servers to clear their tables. First off I'd like to say that our waitress was great and deserves better. Mariyah I believe was her name. As for the ambiance, my table and I were very surprised it was nice and a packed house last night when we showed up to our 7pm reservation. But after 30 minutes the place was completely dead and there wasn't anyone at the bar even. As for our food... we got the cheesesteak egg rolls which were delicious, but we got the Wellington bites and they were completely frozen in the middle. So we sent those back and when we got those back we burnt our mouths eating them they were so hot. Then we ordered the rack of lamb and wagyu both medium rare, recommended medium rare too btw. The rack of lamb came to us still kicking on the farm and the wagyu was as blue as possible.. sent the steak back because the lamb was manageable and when I got the the steak back it was still BLUE! after sending it back a second time the steak came back and it was no longer edible, just completely well done on the outside and mushy on the inside. Definitely will not be returning anytime soon as even our drinks from the bar came weren't even good. I came for the steak lunch special I saw on the website. I was greeted by a MEATLOAF lunch special in the restaurant. What is the point of meatloaf, anyway? Why ruin perfectly good meat by adding airy, carby filler to it? Meh. It was really disappointing. I ended up going with the tavern steak. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was tasty. I can see this place getting better if only a few things changes in the future. I went for the dinner with a large group from my work. Tom and Alex were my servers. They were attentive yet couldn't really understand our needs entirely. They were maybe too focused in making this experience a fine dining and orderly that they forgot we may not be here for a nice restaurant experience. We were all there after a long day of work and we were hungry. The group arrived earlier wanted to start ordering first so they can at least start with appetizers or soup, but the server wanted to wait for the rest of the group and take orders in order to make things more prompt and not confusing. Yet they still made a mistake of mixing up the orders and spilling soup on the customers while serving. Food was okay. Icebergs wedge salad was refreshing and egg roll was crunchy. Seared tuna was also very delicious. However, I've head a better steak before. The rub on the steak had a distinctive smell that was not very appetizing. It tasted slightly funny too. Also the lobster tail had fish smell when the meat was separated from the shell. Once dipped in the sauce, it was bette but still... the first impression when I received the dish was "smelly". My coworker who ordered Wagyu also said they had a bette smoother Wagyu before. Wagyu should melt in your tongue but this one was not so different from the other steak that we were eating. Sides were good but there were nothing super special about them. It could almost be bought from Costco or any other grocery store as a "ready for the oven" food. Overall, pretty mediocre. I was excited when I arrived to the restaurant but left a little disappointed. I hope their service improves in the future. They need to step up their flavor game for the steak and the side dishes. Most times when I visit Anchorage, a stop at Sullivan's is part of the trip. I recently took 7 work colleagues to dinner. Ultimately, half of the orders were returned due to undercooked or poorly prepared meat. My steak was cold (not lukewarm- COLD) in the middle. They graciously cooked new steaks but I put that bit of hospitality on the server who was terrific. Otherwise, it was a marginal meal that cost me nearly $1,000. I'll also happened to look up at the chandeliers and they were filthy. Bottomline: They have a kitchen and maintenance problem. Veronica, the server was great and for her, they get a two-star. I used to love the French Dip sandwich, but yesterday the meat was clumpy and nicely shaved while the au jus was more like gravy and the bread was not up to their previous standards. my cup of Shrimp & Lobster Bisque wasn't great. I come here a couple times a year by myself when I am in Anchorage - which is rare these days, so as I am a true "foodie" I head for a tried and true place. Sullivans most of the time delivers. Last time it did not - this time it really really did. I arrived at 4:32 PM and did not get a wait person until 4:44 PM. The place was not packed maybe 1/3 full. There was only one wait person - a young man who did not look old enough to be in a bar, but he was busy at the bar with new friends. He took one look at a single older woman and turned his back - never to be heard from again. The bar tenders were not busy but fiddle talking between themselves and washing some glasses. About 10 minutes later I saw a new figure scurrying around tables at the end of the bar. They had just come in as did another table for 2 across the room. Chelsey was serving waters, menu's, making apologies for being over loaded and on to me. She was actually hurrying! Then she told me she had two tables ahead of me - the two that came in way after me - and that she would be right back. I spoke up b4 I knew it and said I had been here first. She did an about- face in mid air, apologized and took my order instantly. What a pleasure. She actually valued me as a customer - impressive. The drink showed up 5 minutes later - perfect then the Happy Hour snacks about 20 minutes later. It took a long time for the food but it was worth it. I even ordered oysters on the half shell - two were AWFUL - but the other four were fresh, & crisp. Since Mother Nature controls the oysters I just ignored the bad one. However the staff should have known by the looks they were questionable and I should have paid more attention. Oysters were served with the usual cocktail sauce and tobacco - cleverly plated. My only suggestion would be a vinaigrette accompaniment. I had the Beef Wellington Bites (superior) with just the perfect amount of saucing and the Blue Cheese Chips - warm and loaded with Blue Cheese. A meal in itself. A steal at Happy Hour Prices. My drink was tasty and well presented. All in all a very relaxing experience. By the time I got the check I had forgotten about the mess when I walked into thanks to Chelsey. We enjoyed pursuing the extensive lunch menu and selected Caesar salads, Delmonico steak and one with brussel sprouts and one with mashed potatoes. After disembarking our 7-day Alaskan cruise in Anchorage, which had somewhat mediocre food, I was dying for a good 'ol steak. I checked Yelp but was unable to decide on a spot, so we asked our Uber driver where she recommended we go, then crossed referenced with Yelp reviews. Sullivan's for the win! She recommended we go for dinner if we wanted an amazing meat experience. We called and were told that their dinner menu starts at 4pm. It was 1:30pm, so we waited patiently with drooling mouths, and arrived at the restaurant at exactly 4:03. I'm setting this up so you can feel how hangry and dying we (well, I) was :) We ordered the lump crab cake to start, and I was a bit disappointed that for $17, it was just one crab cake, that wasn't very good--hence the loss of one star. It lacked the crunchy exterior and acidic sauce I was craving. I was a bit sad and losing hope for the meal... But then, the steak came out. HOLY FREAKIN MOLY. It was exactly what I was looking for. I had the 26oz dry-aged long bone ribeye, and I ate every damn piece. Not in one sitting because well my stomach gave up and had no more room left (she's a wimp)--but you best believe I took the rest of the steak back to my Airbnb as a 'lite' midnight snack. Just wish my dog was with us, because he would have enjoyed chewing on that humongous bone :D Sullivan's is on the pricey side, but I don't regret getting that steak one bit. The crab cake was disappointing, and the mashed potatoe side dish was too salty, but everything else was delicious. Great staff, beautiful restaurant, and amazing location in downtown ANC. Stayed the night in anchorage before our cruise. Decided it would be nice to have a nice dinner. There were 6 of us. Food AMAZING!!! Service was AWFUL. we had a female server don't recall name. It took over 75 minutes to get dinner. Drinks ordered had to remind her several times. We piled dirty plates that were stared at and left! Manager came by told him we would love our drinks he finally got them and cleared table. Restaurant was only at 25% capacity at most.
