Sunny Design and construction did a fantastic job on our kitchen and living room remodel. From start to finish, the communication with owner Jose was excellent, the quality of all the workers, including subcontractors, was high, and everything was done on time. All workers were very polite and respectful, which we really appreciated since we were living in the house during construction. The process started with the bid, which was done quickly and clearly. Of the four bids we received, Sunny was competitive with others. However, we liked the professionalism and approachability of Jose right off the bat. Through the design process , we were updated regularly on options, and never felt pressured to select specific products. The suppliers recommended were excellent. Demo and construction was quick and very tidy. We lived in our house during construction, and both Sunny and their subcontractors made sure to keep things clean around their work areas. All workers and subs were always on time and showed up when they said they would. There were never long periods where no work was being done, as is often the experience with other contractors. Small things would come up during construction, and questions were asked, but they were transparent about options on how to deal with them, and we quickly moved through them. Often the construction team would be waiting on us to make decisions, instead of the typical reverse! They were again very prompt and communicative with construction. The quality of work was great too, as we would often look at the work during the process. I had an interior home renovation project and i got referred by my designer Shweta Chhajed to Jose and his team. Jose was very communicative in showing and explaining his current and completed projects. We(designer and me ) visited multiple projects Jose and team had done. My impression of the work turned out to be good, i was also taking estimates from others . Jose seemed to be on the higher side of my expectation but his time lines were good around 6 weeks to complete. The project needed to move 2 walls then full kitchen demo and rebuilding all of the kitchen with re-done electrical, cabinet install with counter top, plumbing, 2 rooms needed closet expansion , fire place removal in living room , re-flooring the whole home including stairs, re-painting the whole home . Jose had many people working on almost a daily basis and the skill these guys poses for the job is very good. However i would say these guys can get very good results working with a designer who has more idea of the final outlook, their work without the designer can seem not very detailed oriented. I would highly recommend them to work more with designers to make their work shine . Learning from a designer and listening to them can take them way ahead, taking feedback from a designer and re-doing things can seem a lot but it would take them to be great professionals brining out their best work. Some of the materials the designer and me and ordered ahead of time , like the kitchen cabinets , the flooring. During renovations we had to move out to an air bnb and got stuck in moving when last minute the mover bailed out, Jose and team saved the day and i am really thankful for the quick help. In the whole renovation there was a lot of back and forth which is typical of projects but i would say Jose was clear in defining the scope of, efforts and almost everything was in writing. The part i was not very happy about is higher change order costs than i expected, we went some back and forth on those things. This led to overall cost bump for me which seemed higher than expected costs for me. Time and execution wise there was a minor hiccup for about 5 days in total but apart from that these guys worked on time. There were some material delays which i am not counting at all on the delayed timeline the project got completed (8-9 weeks). Jose and team still have some electrical work to be done but it's more pending on my carpenter to complete it, then the electrical work for LED's can be completed, Jose is very understanding of this current limitation and will schedule the electrician to work after a month or so on this. Overall i would say these guys have very good skills, clear communication, take very good care and permissions when kids and family is around, they are accommodating . I would recommend them to add more flexibility and learn from a designer to make their work stand out and shine. read more

I contracted Sunny Design & Construction to replace my electrical meter box. The entire experience was great. Jose arranged for the city permit and also communicated with PG &E. The follow up work was perfect . The stucco work perfectly match my existing stucco and they painted the exterior wall. The interior wall that was removed was replaced with a new section of drywall. Out of eight contractors I interviewed, he was - by far - the most thorough with his initial cost estimate. Some people will give you an estimate that looks detailed but is largely just a copy-paste generic breakdown of what general tasks usually consist of. Jose will get really specific to your home. He can do that because he puts in the work necessary to survey the existing construction and ask questions and follow-up questions - something surprisingly few contractors will do. Words can't describe what a wonderful experience my fiancé and I had dealing with Jose and his crew. We called Jose on a Saturday and explained to him we needed a bathroom remodeled fairly quickly. He came out a few days later and provided an estimate which covered everything from electrical to the plumbing. Once we approved the estimate his crew came and started the process. All of his sub contractors are fantastic and were very careful not to damage any of the walls in the house during the demo process. We were in the process of redoing our shingles and the roof had a complication to make sure that we find the right electric infrastructure while going through the roofing work.
