I highly recommend Sunny Shine BBQ! The roast meats are incredibly flavorful, and the stir-fries are delicious. Great atmosphere and affordable prices--definitely a gem in El Monte!

Decided to check it out and made it in time for their lunch special (until 4PM every day including weekends). It looks family owned and the service was fast. They give a good amount of food. I got a half portion of the roasted duck and I like that it does have a lot of meat on it, flavor was good. The orange chicken comes with the sauce on the side. Next time, will try other items on their lunch menu.

This place deserves way more foot traffic. The lunch specials have amazing value and 2-3 entrees can feed a family. Not too mention it is very delicious.

This review is for the roasted duck. I've been hunting for slighty cheaper price duck cause while Sam Woo is reallt good but their price has gone up tremendously. I came accross this Bbq place while I was in the plaza and decided to try it. I was so surprised! It's on the small side restaurant but seems cozy. Their duck quality was 8/10 and cheaper price! I will be back to try some other dishes.

The food was ok. I think it could be better. Beef noodle soup. Wasn't my favorite dish. I felt like the beef wasn't cool right to be tender. It was too hard to chew on it. The service was great tho. The waitress was very attentive but overall I give this place just an ok

Food is finger licking delicious. I get the half roasted duck and pork belly. Service is mediocre. I always get laughed at by the ladys behind the counter. They crack jokes in their language. Because waiting customers laugh as well. Ambiance is not appealing,

After I took my car in for service, I was looking for a restaurant that specializes in stir fry udon beef noodle, there were several places but it was kinda far from where I was. So I decided to just try the roast duck here, since is my first time eat here , I asked the owner if I can sample a small plate of roast duck and char shu, of course I paid for it. If I like it, I'll buy half duck and 1 pound of char shu for my family. When I enter the restaurant, it looks outdated and cluttered with boxes right next to the register, they should consider moving those plates/to go containers to the back or something, it feels like you're in a poor place. Anyway, I ordered the Mongolian beef, I thought it came with noodles but it didn't. Then I ordered the green beans, on the menu, it doesn't say is spicy but it was. Then the owner brought my bbq sampler with sweet dipping sauce, it has 3 pieces of roast duck and 4 pieces of char shu. Duck was ok, but the char shu was dry even with some fat on the sides. They served it with white rice. The young waitress there spoke pretty good English, but the older lady and older man don't really speak English but they do speak Cantonese and Mandarin. I asked the waitress why the menu showed the green beans as not spicy and she said the menu is wrong lol, that's funny. Maybe they didn't update their menu. After I paid and tipped, I went to ask about the duck and was about to order half but i wanted them to cut the whole duck that was hanging and I don't want the other half piece that was already cut. I don't know how long the other half was sitting there but she said no, she can't cut the whole one unless I buy the whole duck, she says the other half was only been sitting there for 10 minutes. Hmmm. I'm not really sure about that, so I didn't get it. Then her attitude changed to something that is a little condescending/rude...like I don't care if you want it or not, we not cutting that whole duck, take it or leave it. Will I be back ? no, even though I like both the Mongolian beef and green beans even though they were a little spicy. But thanks for the samples. I'm updating to a 1 star since I gave them 4 star about 23 hours ago and the owner says I'm poor. I came into the restaurant wanting a specific item and I'm by myself. I wanted the Mongolian beef with noodles and try their bbq, I also ordered the fry green beans. I'm fine with the Mongolian beef without the noodles. I been to many Chinese bbq restaurants and they do cut the duck that you pick like Kim Tar in City of Industry. And I do understand Cantonese, I just didn't appreciate the young waitress condescending attitude about not cut a new duck. But to have the owner calling me poor because I ordered the lunch special for $9.99, if that's the case, then don't put it as lunch special. And I'm sure all your food are fresh. And don't worry about me coming back because I would NEVER step foot in your restaurant again and I would advise others not to either unless you want a nasty attitude from the owner. There's plenty of places to eat and have better service like the restaurant across from them, Ocean Bao. Don't come here, owners have horrible attitude. Instead of taking customers criticism and try to improve their restaurant, they call you names and tell you not to come back. Good luck

If you're lazy to cook and craving some Chinese food, this is a pretty good place to go to. They have lunch specials that give really big portions for cheap but the normal menu pricing isn't too shabby either. The workers here are Cantonese speakers but they know enough English to help you order and understand what you want. I came and got some family style foods that comes with a bin of white rice which they will refill if you need more. Food not only comes with complimentary white rice but your choice of hot tea or my favorite, iced sweetened chrysanthemum tea! Pretty quiet with no music but doesn't mean you can't be loud and talk. Definitely should give it a try if you want authentic Chinese food and even if you're on a budget. See my pics if you want to know what I feasted on!

Very flavorful; would come back. The service was fast. And the ambiance was very peaceful.

    Prove that dasher cancelled

I ordered on DoorDash, order was canceled by dasher so DoorDash give me refund and tell me to reorder, now they called me and ask me why I canceled the order, I said I didn't it was the dasher who probably stole the food. They said ok they will prepare my new order. And guess what? They don't even bother putting the meat inside, it was a dry piece of duck leg cut in 3 pieces, I hope you guys get shut down, so unprofessional.

I would give this restaurant zero stars. Do not come here unless you want to get angry. I ordered a Fish Flavored Eggplant but they served me a Pork Eggplant instead. When I pointed out the mistake to the waiter, I expected them to bring me the correct dish. However, I was disappointed to find that the kitchen simply altered the taste of the same dish and served it back to me. The taste and presentation were still wrong. This not only failed to correct the error but also felt like an unethical attempt to deceive a customer. Never never back to this restaurant again.

Yummy food! Reasonable price! Friendly staffs. The place is also clean. Definitely will come back!

First time trying Sunny Shine BBQ lunch special and it was pretty good! Their lunch special ends around 4pm so there's time after running errands on a Saturday to grab lunch. I've been to this place a few times to grab their chicken, BBQ pork, or roast duck. I remember their chickens were super plump and full of flavor. Meaning they were bigger than your Sam Woos; however time has changed. It's a good place to go if you're looking for BBQ roast pork or chicken. This restaurant is located in El Monte on Peck Road, right across from Ocean Bo (the place that sells dim sum) and Mana Tea House. The parking there can get really busy and the parking spots are really narrow. Especially during the lunch rush, the parking lot can get really packed. The service there is good, since I ordered to go I can't say about their wait service. Food comes out piping hot and smells so delicious. On this visit, I ordered Beef Chow Fun (dry style), Braised Tofu, Orange Peel Chicken and the Fish Filet in Black Bean Sauce. Also, as a bonus for their lunch special includes a box of complementary white rice. Most dishes on the menu are $9.99 or under. Overall it was a pleasant visit and the food was good. Especially if you're super hungry, it hits the spot just right. My only sad downside is that the boxes are not packed full like other restaurants. There was not a lot of fish filet in the Fish Filet Black Bean Sauce or a lot of chicken in the Orange Peel Chicken Dish. I guess times are tough and our dollars don't go as far anymore. The food is great, I just hoped for more food. The verdict, definitely coming back to try more dishes!

It's really why I came here. There was so much meat from the lobster and the noodles were a great addition to the dish. So flavorful and delicious! If you come between 11:30-4:45pm, you can get the lunch special items. The portions were actually huge for the price you're paying. It's available 7 days a week. It's so worth it! One of the dish we ordered was the house special sauce crab with market price of ~$26 per pound. We added the noodles for $10. Normal practice the server should come and advise on the size of our crab before making so we can choose how big the crab we want for our dish, because we're paying by pound for the dish anyway... but within 2 minutes of placing the order, a crab dish arrived... HA! Problem 1: The server originally tried to give the crab dish to the table next to us and the folks refused the dish... then the server turned around and placed the dish onto our table for us. CLEARLY they made a mistake and made the wrong dish for next table and decide to not waste food and gave it to us. We asked if that was really our dish and they said yes... what a lie! The kitchen took 2 mins to cook our dish? haha...dumb! Next table was there before us and their house special lobster noodles arrived 10-15 minutes later. First they made a mistake, then tried to lie to cover it up. No one is stupid here. We would have been ok if they were honest about it and ask if we would accept that dish with no complain here. Problem 2: The table next to us got their plates changed multiple times and NOT once did someone came to check on us about changing plates. Problem 3: Our bill came. They charged our crab as 2.5 pounds. What a joke! I'm a crab person. I know my crabs. That tiny crab is probably around 1.5 pounds - 2 pounds max. (Check out the picture to see the small crab shell and the tiny pieces of the crab legs and meat pieces on the edge of the plate). The $10 they charged for noodles was a huge portion, but that is not the same value as 1 pound of crab that they overcharged us for the dish. The house special crab was pretty tasty and we like the fried calamari. The veggie was decent and soup was pretty weak... our bill was $150 and I tipped $20 for the experience. Be grateful and work on improving your practice

We ended up getting a set for $168 this time, which came with 6 dishes. It's also $35 per lb for lobster, and I asked for the smallest one. This is what I thought about the food we got. House Seafood Soup - Simple and clean soup. Good portion, and it was soothing to eat. Lots of squid. (4/5) Clams with Spicy Sauce - Large clams with tons of meat, and the sauce was fire. Always a good choice. (5/5) Crab with Salt & Pepper - Loved the seasoning, and the flavors were solid. (4.5/5) Thai Style Beef Stew - First time trying this, and it was good. A bit different, but the meat chunks were tasty and the overall flavors were good. (4/5) Sautéed Pea Sprouts - Nicely done vegetable dish. It's simple but refreshing with good flavors. (4/5) Fried Whole Fish - This dish was gone so fast because it was delicious. Nicely fried and not overly seasoned. (5/5) Signature Lobster - I feel like you have to get this here since it's their specialty. It's pricey, but in my opinion, it's the best and freshest lobster in town. Tons of green onions, seasoned well, fresh meat, and lots of lobster roe. (5/5) Service was good, and they didn't automatically add a mandatory tip for a large party. The total came out to around $364, which is pricey, but the food was phenomenal. Parking - Valet only, but they have street parking in front. I parked on the street since there were plenty of spots on a Wednesday, but I assume it gets busy on weekends.

However, if you want to try something a little different, there are some "traditional" Kaiping specialties that I haven't seen on menus anywhere else. I've always come with my family and have received great service because my dad knows the staff. They speak my home dialect so I'm sure there's some bias there. Foodwise, I've tried quite a bit and haven't had any dishes that didn't hit the mark for me. Standouts for me are the big claypot yellow eel rice, their specialty roast goose (the 2 dishes just listed may require a preorder but again, my dad usually handles all the ordering), their beansprout with pig intestine, and their egg plant with salted fish. The claypot rice is ordered by the kilo so really is a big party dish but has nice succulent pieces of eel, really well cooked rice, and then of course the crispy rice at the bottom. The goose is very flavorful and not super gamey, it has more of a meaty texture and bite than the younger poultry an American pallette may be used to so word of warning. I really like the beansprout with pig intestine, again not really gamey but very savory with very tender, fatty pieces of intestine (highly recommend even if you're hesitant with intestine). The eggplant with salted fish is also intensely savory with a pungency from the salted fish that may seem like a lot but melds really well with the sauce and overall flavor of the dish. Though I haven't tried every dish on their menu, I've tried quite a bit and can confidently say they'll bring out some tasty Chinese dishes.

Usually beef is tough in this type of noodle dish at other places. The flavors were legit..not too sweet or salty just right! It's really hard for me to find good Asian food in Baldwin Park so I was pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon this place. Highly recommend. This is our go to "I don't know what Chinese food place to go so let's go here"…read more I do want to warn that it is definitely a hit or miss! Depends on so many factors such as the day, time, and staff level they have because they don't have as many staff as you think they have). The food is good on weekend not so crowded times, depending on the season, they will have really good fried dishes, but on off days you might taste some old oil. Wait time tends to be long during rush hour lunch time for weekends and dinner for any day around 6/6:30pm. You can reserve a table if you planned to come here which will save you time if it's crowded. Staff tend to be short on weekdays, a heads up that they are working nonstop and usually are walking around. I rarely see them stop and do nothing, and it does get a bit difficult to flag the down when they are running around. Today, we had an off day, just opened on a Sunday for lunch and we ordered lunch specials, the provided soup for free but the tea was just boiled water. Took my dad two tries to tell them it was just water (and had to open the pot to show them). Our food started coming around 11:30am and also more tables got filled up quickly so the staff are more occupied, you may need to catch them when they bring you a dish. Unfortunately, an error occurred and they forgot one of our dishes and since they were so busy we sort of finished our meal without it. So we had to bring it to their attention once we got the check (and it was counted on the check despite it not arriving to our table) l, they had to check to make sure we didn't get it. I will also say that the furniture is as used and old and always here until it breaks. The furniture are slanted, wobbly, chipped, stained and missing things. It looked like you would try and avoid this place but it doesn't bother me or my family. The food is still good and I always leave with a satisfied feeling.

They offer both traditional sit down service and a takeout counter in the front if you're in a hurry. The dim sum is solid and definitely hits the spot. Since I live nearby, it's one of those convenient spots I find myself coming back to. This visit was for dinner. We ordered a fish dish that was pretty interesting (honestly not sure what the exact name was), an oyster omelet, and clams with basil. Everything was tasty and definitely made me go through a couple bowls of rice. One thing I always appreciate is that they still give complimentary dessert at the end of the meal. We got green bean soup and some ma lai gao, which was a nice way to finish dinner. Overall, Ocean Bo is one of those neighborhood gems that has stood the test of time. It may not be the trendiest restaurant around, but it's reliable, serves good Cantonese food, and keeps the locals coming back.

We arrive around 2pm and there was no wait. You order off a form and the food arrives quickly because they have most of it pre-made and ready for take out in the back. Here are my thoughts on the following: - har gow: decent and STUFFED with shrimp - siu mai: super juicy and probably the best siu mai I've ever had - shrimp rice roll: decent, nothing to write home about - ham sui gok (deep fried meat dumpling): good, but not as airy as I like them, but still good - soy sauce chow mein: super bland - egg tarts: one of them was perfect, the other two were too runny like they hadn't been set properly, but the custard was sweet and balanced perfectly with the flaky crust - egg yolk bun: my bf really liked these, but I thought the filling was a tad too grainy for my liking All in all, I was pretty impressed with Ocean Bo and would recommend.

Tried a majority of the menu items and so far, everything was yum and tasty! Ambiance is your typical Asian setting service...but still quick and efficient. This location also has private rooms if you are looking for a room for a small event. Room for three tables max.

Walked in... then walked right back out. There was an older Asian lady with a short pixie haircut working the front. She looked like the only person around. I stood there for a few minutes waiting to be served. She looked at me. I looked at her. She walked back to the register. Then she went to serve a table and looked at me. I looked back. Then she walked back to the register and turned her back to me. I walked over to the menu. She looked at me again. I looked back. At that point, it felt like we were in one of those romantic K-dramas where two people keep exchanging glances... except nobody ever said a word. Then she went to help someone else without so much as a "Hi," or an "I'll be with you in a minute." So I took the hint and walked out. For the first time in my life that I left a restaurant without ordering because of a silent staring contest. That was definitely... interesting. Onto the next adventure.
