We went early in a Saturday morning and it was busy! Inside was lively and open. I got a matcha latte which was good, but a little sweet ( I like my matcha more matcha-y, iykyk). Came back to try some more of the food items, especially the lemon ricotta pancake (which is my go to at other restaurants). The lemon ricotta pancake here has a light and fluffy cake texture and taste, with a subtle hint of lemon. I added $12 ($2 for maple syrup, $10 for the combo meal with eggs and chicken apple patties) -- which I think is worth. The syrup adds to the sourness of the lemon and richness from the ricotta, and the eggs/patties add a good source of protein. The unagi tornado omurice was 4.5-5/5: good umami flavor, perfect soft but fluffy omelette on top, and wonderful blend of flavors (unagi, rice, egg, and roe). We also ordered the soju martini, which didn't taste too alcoholic and had nice blend of beverages. On a Sunday at 11am: wait time to get seats about 30-40 min, and then about 30ish minutes to get food (so similar to my prior experience coming on a Saturday). I've noticed on both experiences that it can take a bit to flag down a waiter, so takes a little longer to order or to get refills on the coffee but the staff are very kind and attentive when you do catch their attention. The inside does get kind of loud as sounds echo off the wood interior, but you can still have a conversation with folks at your table without having to yell. There's some other food items I'm interested in trying / do plan to come back for the omurice again. read more

Absolutely delish! My friend and I beat the morning rush and got here early Sunday morning. It was packed! I ordered the Eel Fried Rice. I don't remember the exact name of the entree, but it was yummy. I don't normally do eel, but the taste and texture was just right, especially when couple with eggs and rice! My friend ordered the pancake, potatoes, and a side of eggs and bacon. The potatoes were savory and well cooked. I love the cafe style ambiance. Definitely comes off as your mom and pop diner. I waited for almost an hour with the line of people outside. The "HYPE" was fasho on level 10! I got the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and the Unagi Tornado Omelette. And honestly, the food was solid, it was good, but it was not "WOW" at all for me. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes were good, but not WOW. As you can see from the pics, they were a little pale, they could've went a little longer on the griddle. Didn't really taste the ricotta at all, definitely taste the lemon and the slight tartness. It was just cool. Unagi Tornado Omelet ... Good, just not WOW. The eel is cooked perfect, but aside from that, it just tasted super regular. Rice with gravy and egg over it. I can't lie, I think the place right now has a lot of HYPE around it from social media, but I think the HYPE ain't what its cracked up to be. 1 hour wait, relatively pricey and the food is just "cool"? 3.5/5 : Yuzu Benedict The eggs were cooked very well for the benedict. I did like yuzu, salmon, and pickled onions together. I only wish there was more pickled onions to balance out the salmon and sauce. The potatoes that came with it were actually pretty good. I love the crispy outside of it. 5/5 Blackstone Omelet I did not have the omelet but was told it was 5/5 along with the potatoes that it came with. We were really happy that they offered sides because our toddler would not have ate off the kids menu. Nothing wrong with it, she is just a picky eater right now. She had a side of bacon (came with 3), bowl of fruits, and a side of fries. This was great for her because she ate all of it! We even tried the fries and loved it! The restruant itself is nice and clean with plenty of seating. The host and waiter were very nice and accommodating to us. Overall we enjoyed our experience here! First time here and the wait was about an hour ish. The food didn't disappoint. I got the unagi rice omelette plate and my friend got the waffle chicken plate. We ordered the matcha latte and everything was delicious. The portion was just about right and I was so fulfilled after eating my yummy food. The inside was clean and cute, and the bathroom is clean and nice too. You can go inside and put your name on the waitlist tablet. The food is delicious and yummy. Highly recommended!! Walked in on a Tuesday afternoon and it was busy, we were greeted and seated right away. They have an open seating system so you can sit anywhere you'd like. They have a great menu of food and drinks, this place is perfect for brunch. I got the unagi omurice, a nice piece of unagi, over a fluffy egg, and ginger fried rice. It was served with a dollop of masago and served with a spiced gravy and pickled ginger. This dish was yummy, so flavorful! My boyfriend got the blackstone omelet with a kimchi pico which complimented the omelet well. I love how crispy his potato's came out too! The food was delicious and so were the drinks. I got a fresh squeezed Orange juice and my bf got the raspberry lemonade that was so g tasty and refreshing! If I'm ever in the sac area again, I would definitely come here again for brunch! read more

I can see why there's a big line for Sunday breakfast. The menu is extensive-- I got the biggest blueberry pancake I've ever seen and the scrambled eggs were perfect. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. The wait staff was attentive, and a special shout out to the host who stands outside with the wait list and has to yell out names when a table is available. He was great to talk to and when I was standing next to him he said "I'm gonna yell a name in a few seconds so you might want to step back." LMAO he's not kidding he really does have to yell for everyone to hear him and yell he can. Someone needs to give him a raise as he's doing a fantastic job! read more

Ran 4 miles, walked around Midtown Farmers Market, and ended up here for brunch with the fam. They swore by this place. This spot replaced Divine gelato which used to be my favorite gelato place! We waited about 30 minutes to get seated and ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes for the table and I ordered their noodle dish. The lemon ricotta pancakes are actually my new fav pancakes ever. They are thin and both fluffy and crunchy. It's the perfect pancake. I thought their Jjapaguri dish was a bit heavy and the flavor was repetitive so the daikon and cucumber that the dish comes with is absolutely necessary. Prob wouldn't order this dish again but still good FWIW. read more

The wait was worth it. We were placed 15th and got our table in less than an hour. My fiancé got the crispy Benedict and he said the hollandaise was really good. The potatoes were big portions. My omurice was really good. Loved the unagi and the sauce. It was very busy but the servers were really fast. We were in and out like that! Would definitely come again! The atmosphere is amazing, love the big wooden doors! The matcha latte was not too sweet and delicious. The food.. omg it's so good! I had the Unagi Tornado Omrice and it's the perfect in every bite! As soon as I saw a picture of the tornado omurice, I knew I had to go here. I'm not a fan of uni though, so luckily they allow the option of subbing it with wagyu instead. First off, the sauce for the dish was great. I loved it and tried to get an even portion for every bite. The omurice was well seasoned and had a generous amount of masago on it. The ginger also gives a good kick if you want a contrasting taste to the sweetness. The wagyu itself was pink inside but the outside was very crispy. I told myself I wanted to go here to try more of the menu but the omurice tornado was just so good I don't know if I can come back here and not order it. I'd need to depend on the goodwill of whoever I'm going with to share with me at this point. My friend got one of the egg Benedict's, and I tried one of her potatoes. They were super crispy outside and super soft inside. I had to hold back from eating all her food. This is a great place for food with a small group (2-3 people). Higher than that, you may be waiting quite a while. I did have a bit of an issue trying to join the waitlist, as did other people. For some reason it wouldn't let us join the list so it led to a line being built up behind me. I'm not sure if wifi here needs to be checked or if it's the device. Food also took super long to come out, which I'm assuming is because they're so popular, so I recommend coming early. read more

I really like this place but! Let me say the service is always good. The food is also really good, however nothing disgusts me the most than dirty dishes and silverware. We got our waters and the cup had lipstick, my fork had food stuck on it, my son received a broken plate. I'm sad to say this but as expensive as this place is one of their major focus should be clean dishes and toss what's broken. That's a huge hazard. read more

Stopped by Sunny Side in Sacramento on a Saturday morning and even though it was packed inside we were seated pretty quickly. The place was bustling but the service never missed. They were fast, attentive, and kept our waters filled. I started with a mocha which was smooth and delicious with a strong espresso kick. For food we ordered the Hilo Moco and the Black Stone Omelette. Both were absolutely perfect with great flavors, nothing too salty, and a nice balance of textures. The tots on the side were perfect, extra crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. What stood out was how consistent everything felt. We kept noticing other plates coming out of the kitchen with beautiful presentation. Their menu has such a wide selection that I would come back to try more. Overall it was great energy, amazing food, and a spot worth revisiting in midtown! read more

I came here with a friend to check out since we were looking for a brunch place and was so pleasantly surprised by it! I got the unagi tornado omurice and loved it! I felt like the sauce complimented the egg and the rice well! It was we flavored but not overly saucy/salty. I would get it again! The inside is a very cute interior but also pretty spacious! It's a good place for a brunch catch up place for sure! Service was pretty efficient as well event though when we went there was only one server. Being in midtown there is only street parking only but there is plenty of parking around even if you have to go around the block. Would recommend trying this place! read more

I finally got to try Sunny Side Breakfast for a celebratory lunch and can I just say... WOW! This place really lives up to the hype and so happy I went. Art took care of us and he was so kind and attentive. He greeted us right away and made sure we had everything we needed. The service here is just as great as the food. Since we came on a weekday, we were seated quickly for lunch, but I've seen this place absolutely packed on weekends. Honestly, it's worth the wait and I'll have to come back to try more items. I ordered the Unagi Tornado Rice and it was incredible. The eggs were buttery and well seasoned with the unagi and sauce. I devoured it so fast because every bite was just that good. My friend had the Crispy Benedict which has fried chicken. She said was really good but couldn't really taste the sriracha in the hollandaise sauce. The vibe is welcoming, the portions are generous, and the menu has so many tempting options. Like I said, I know I'll be back very soon. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes are calling my name! While walking my dogs downtown, I walked by Sunny Side Breakfast and was intrigued to see an Asian fusion breakfast spot. My husband and I used to love frequenting Harry's Café, but once they closed, we felt a void in our breakfast lives. I was hopeful that perhaps Sunny Side Breakfast could fill that void. On a recent Friday morning, I met a friend here for breakfast and was not disappointed. We arrived fairly early, so the restaurant was pretty empty, but by the time we left almost every table was full. I decided to try the Hilo Moco while my friend ordered the Unagi tornado. We split an order of the lemon ricotta pancakes, and my friend's mother ordered the jjapaguri. Each and every dish had such a wonderful and unique flavor profile. There was not a single bad bite! The Hilo Moco had tons of delicious vegetables, and the Wagyu patty was so tender and flavorful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were bright and fluffy. The Unagi tornado was unlike anything I have ever tried for breakfast before. And the jjapaguri had a nice chew to the noodle. The space itself is open and modern. The restaurant was clean and the staff were very kind and attentive. I look forward to being a loyal customer at Sunny Side breakfast. read more

Food is good, food looks good, expect it to be crowded, and loud. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the food, especially me with the scramble I had that had shrimp, and crab. However the only reason I am not going to give sunny side breakfast 5 stars, is because the disrespectful size of the orange juice I got. Usually I expect to pay a ton for orange juice at any place that serves breakfast, so when I saw that it was 6 bucks for orange juice I was like alright that's normal. Sure enough the drinks come first and boom they hit me with a super tiny little glass of orange juice, and not only that the orange juice didn't taste good, it tasted kind of like they had juiced it with the seed. Anyways it ruined my mood as soon as it got to the table. Thankfully though the food is worth it, and my girlfriend was happy and that's all that mattered, so don't get me wrong this is still a good review just watch out if you expect a larger orange juice. read more

We passed by here a few weeks ago and there was a line of people so we just knew we had to try it. Looking online we noticed they take reservations so we snagged one and headed off to breakfast. The decor is clean farmhouse chic and feels very spacious. Service for us was spot on! If you are fans of Origami than you already know this going to be right up your alley. The food is incredibly creative and deliciously addictive. We had the poutine and the moco which were both stellar. Snag your reservation and treat yourself to an amazing meal. read more

Super excited for them to finally open! The server told me it took them 2 years to open. Server was quick and friendly. I tried their version of poutine and the unagi omurice. Everything came out so good and packed with flavor! The poutine had crispy tator tots and crispy bacon , gravy, and that perfectly cooked runny egg! The unagi omurice had so much flavor! It has a ginger fried rice so if you don't like ginger I wouldn't recommend it. Will definitely come back to try more :) read more

This place has been open for only a month and it has knocked it out of the park when it comes to ambience, service and ultimately food. Four of us came for breakfast and we all ordered different things. Hilo Moco- a lot of deep flavors the wagyu burger is seasoned perfectly, the veggies, etc all blend harmoniously to give a perfect bite every time The sunrise Poutine which is their restaurant's version was delicious, the gravy was outstanding. Avocado toast is fruit forward and fresh and refreshing from traditional savory avocado toast. I would add an egg if you are in need of protein, Lastly, their lemon ricotta pancakes are the best I've ever had. Definitely coming back as they are working on adding specialty coffees in the near future read more

This place took over the old gelato place and the space next to it. Since this was a new spot, I needed to check it out. It is a very interesting Asian fusion restaurant. I ordered the Unagi omurice, fried chicken wings, deep fried stuffed French toast, and the loco moco. You are allowed to choose your seating and I highly recommend that you stay away from the HVAC AC unit. That thing blew so much cold air that I felt frozen. Overall, I rate this place 3.5 stars. Pros: I really enjoyed the deep fried French toast and wings. Service was pretty good, the staff were checking on us regularly. Cons: the weight for the food was very long. Our food took at least 40 minutes or more to come out. I understand that they just opened, so I hope that the wait time gets better. The Unagi omurice was overpowered by the ginger. I felt like I couldn't enjoy the different flavors. The loco moco was OK, there was nothing that stood out about it. read more

We decided to try this place after seeing it on Instagram. I'm only giving two stars because the prices are pretty steep. We ordered three dishes, no drinks and paid close to $70. We ordered the chicken and waffles, lemon pancakes with eggs and bacon, and breakfast poutine. The chicken and waffles was our least favorite - waffle is a bit mushy, and the chicken was almost burnt. It is served with gojuchan syrup. I made the mistake of not tasting the syrup before pouring it on my dish. It was a very much acquired taste. I am not sure how to explain it - fishy, salty, sour, and spicy with sweet syrup. Just very very odd. Even the smell was off. The pancakes are so good but for the price not worth it. The breakfast poutine was sooo good. Parking is bad, so that will add to our list of obstacles as to why we may not be back anytime soon. read more

My friend and I came for brunch after seeing all the social media hype around Sunny Side! We came around 10:45am on a Sunday, and to our surprise, there was no wait and we were invited to sit at any open table. Inside is spacious, and the brick interior is beautiful, which complements the historic downtown feel. I prefer savory brunch plates, and our table ordered the Hilo Moco and Jjapaguri. I love the Asian fusion flare and these dish definitely captured the essence of it! We also ordered two raspberry lemonade mimosa since brunch wouldn't be complete without one. Everything came out great! The portions were generous, and my friend and I both had leftovers to box up. By the time we were heading out, there was a wait. I found out after the fact that you can make a reservation through Yelp and would highly recommend, given this spot's up and coming popularity. read more

Very Sunny on this side! After seeing this restaurant pop up on the socials my wife and I decided to take friends and family here for brunch while they visited Sac. To quote the great Rocky Balboa, "This world aint all sunshine and rainbows" but this place is pretty close! To start off with the service, I'll say that the staff were great and welcoming but I think right now (due to the hype and excitement of this new spot) the wait both to be seated and get our food was a test of patience. Granted it was a Sunday afternoon, but from the time we put our names on the waitlist to receiving our food was almost 1 hour and 45 minutes. Once the food arrived all was forgiven though, after perusing the menu for an extended period of time I opted for their Unagi Tornado Omurice...and wow. There was so much flavor in every bite, the Unagi was cooked to perfection and garlic rice and egg were plentiful. I was also able to sample a few other dishes from other's plates including my Wife's Jjapaguri and some of their Lemon Ricotta pancakes both of which were good but did not compare to my Omurice. Next time we go (and we will definitely be returning) I want to try their Hilo Moco and maybe KP Wings as those both caught my eyes as they walked orders by. Needless to say, the hype is real -- go get some Sun. read more

Sunny side has been on my radar for some time and I'm so glad I finally decided to take a dive into the menu! We came in on a Sunday around 9:30am and lucky for us it wasn't busy. We sat down very quickly and I was so impressed with the lay out of the place. It gives industrial chic modern with its high exposed ceilings. Very cute to look at! The menu was great and there really is something for everyone. I went with the lemon ricotta pancakes bc come on I'd have to drive to the bay to get something even merely close to them. They were delightful, spongy and lemony! Service was great and so was parking! Also for large groups :) read more

Exceeded my expectations! The dishes were as beautiful as they are tasty, and we were very pleased with our order. We shared a poutine sunrise and it had just the right amount of house made gravy while keeping the tots all crispy. The runny egg was the perfect touch for someone looking for a smaller portion for breakfast. The Jjapaguri and Unagi Tornado Omurice were our main dishes and both was really good as well. The pickles balanced out each of these dishes and each packed its own unique flavor. I could have done with just a little Unagi Sauce on the egg and not all around the plate because the rice was already so flavorful, but this would be great for someone who likes a saucy fried rice. The space is small, so come early because we came at noon on a Sunday and waited 45 minutes for a table. Worth the wait in my opinion, especially since we rarely see Unagi Omurice anywhere else in Sacramento. read more

I'm always on the lookout for a good brunch spot, and after seeing tons of rave reviews on Instagram for Sunnyside Breakfast, I had to check it out. We went on a Saturday around 10 AM and had about a 15-20 minute wait, which wasn't too bad for a weekend morning. The space used to be Divine Gelateria, but they've really opened it up--it's bright and spacious now. The menu is a fun mix of American and Asian-inspired dishes. I was initially leaning towards the omurice, but ended up going with the Hilo Moko. My friend got the Piggy Scramble, and we shared the lemon ricotta pancakes. The Hilo Moko was amazing. The gravy had mushrooms and the Wagyu beef patty was a nice touch. But honestly, the star of the show was the lemon ricotta pancakes. I wasn't sure about the lemon, but they were so good. The pancakes come with fruit and a dusting of powdered sugar, and trust me, you don't need maple syrup. Just eat them as they are--they're perfect. Even though it was a busy Saturday, service was on point. Orders were taken quickly, the food came out fast, and staff kept checking in on us. It didn't look like they had a ton of servers, but they were managing the crowd well. As for parking, since it's in the Handle District, it's hit or miss. My husband and I decided to try Sunny Side on a whim for New Year's Eve brunch. As expected, there was a wait, but we ended up being seated 25 minutes later than the time we were initially given, which was frustrating. I'm not sure if it was an issue with their system or the Yelp app, but it was definitely a delay. The interior is on the smaller side, featuring an industrial, unfinished look--concrete floors, exposed wood beams, and brick walls. The natural lighting is great if the sun hits just right, but beware: the chairs aren't designed to hold your bag. I also found it chilly inside, and it seemed like other diners did too, as most people kept their coats on. The coffee menu was another letdown, as many of the hot drinks were unavailable. That was disappointing, especially on a cold day. Our food took about 30 minutes to arrive, which felt like a long wait. As for the food, I had the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were very good but felt like they were missing something--maybe a dollop of whipped cream would've completed the dish. My husband had a bacon and egg plate, and he thought the bacon was excellent. Overall, while the food was good, the restaurant still has a lot of kinks to work out. 5 Stars - A Delightful Breakfast Experience! I had the pleasure of visiting Sunny Side Breakfast for breakfast, and I must say, it was an absolute treat! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly service that made us feel right at home. The Bloody Mary was definitely one of a kind, never knew substituting Vodka with Soju would make such a difference! It's a must try! You'll either hate ot or love it! Recently visited Sunny Side in Sacramento for brunch and tried the Hilo Moco and Avocado Salad. The flavor of the moco was pretty solid, with a nice selection of vegetables that really brought the dish together. The egg was a bit overcooked, which isn't typical for a moco, but thankfully it didn't affect the overall flavor profile too much. The avocado salad, on the other hand, felt a bit underwhelming -- cooking the tofu could have taken it up a notch. The service was friendly, although a little slow, and I had to ask for coffee refills a couple of times. But to be fair, it was during their soft opening, so I think they're still finding their rhythm. I'd say they could use a few more hands on deck to keep things flowing smoothly. Came on a Thursday around 11am and was able to be seated right away. Service was good they refilled our water a few times but we had to go up and ask them for the bill. I loved the Lil Breakfast - it was the perfect amount of food. The real winner was the breakfast sausage links though - so so good, made in house and it shows! The coffee was good and constantly flowing - their Mimosa menu is insane. I didn't even order one, but still stared at the menu for about 5 minutes. Mitchell took great care of us too! Overall, this is one of our favorite breakfast spots - we're already talking about coming back on Saturday! Check them out and show them some love!
