Best teriyaki spot in a mile radius from Queen Anne. Consistently good chicken, pork, rice (brown, white, or fried), and gyoza. The noodle dishes are decent, and the katsu is good but sometimes a little dry. The 5 stars are for the consistently excellent teriyaki, particularly the regular chicken and pork. I'm also a fan of the iceberg salad that comes with the meal. My wife thinks I'm crazy because it's just iceberg lettuce with a touch of crates carrot and purple cabbage with a sweet creamy dressing on the side, but it's a type I never eat at home or nicer restaurants, and it reminds me of childhood dinners at my grandma's house. Well I was going to give 2 stars but decide 3 because the lady was nice at the counter. I think the restaurant has changed hands since the last review I posted was excellent. I don't live in the area and do have a teriyaki place walking distance but decided to drive 15mins out of my way because what I thought was good, was not. The Katsu had little meat and dry like jerky. The teriyaki was also not tender, nor juicy and flavorless just a glaze of teriyaki sauce. They don't even give you teriyaki sauce if you do take out and portions are small. I think they should at least give you a little cup of sauce and yes it cost extra if you want more but literally it was just a glaze!! I'm bummed about my lunch but oh well I'll keep searching for a better teriyaki joint. read more

Food is actually good though, so I find myself here regularly. The beef short ribs are my kryptonite ($14, but worth it every now and then). They also do some nice katsu/teriyaki combos, and all the standard teriyaki options (chicken, yakisoba, etc.). Side of gyoza (6 or 12pc) is always nice. Sunny is great. They do, however, have their own style of presentation and food that might not be the best food that you've ever had, but I like it a lot. The food is not fancy, but it is consistent and delicious. This is a great neighborhood place where everyone who works hard around drops in for takeout, quietly eating in by themselves, or charming people dining together. I like how I feel after eating here. A couple scoops of nice white rice, some sauced meat, and a tasty crisp iceberg lettuce and mayo salad. Their staple teriyaki isn't too sweet. Non-greasy noodles, a few Chinese favorites, and a couple other nice things are on the menu. I liked all of them and I've tried most. Ordered tofu teriyaki, and requested just the fried tofu and rice. When I got back to work to eat it, it was a pile of mushy vegetables and tofu doused in sauce that spilled out all over the bag. I ate the tofu and rice anyways, and now have been having horrible stomach pains for the past 4 hours. Sunny Teriyaki's spicy chicken has become my comfort food. It's just all around great - their spicy sauce they use is just packed with flavor and gives you that burn that builds up instead of an instant zing that I find annoying. And they give you so much food - a salad, a huge amount of rice and at least two big piles of chicken. I think I've only seen two different ladies at the front taking orders so I'm thinking it's family owned possibly. They're always so nice and seem excited when they see someone come in they recognize. Plus they offer chopsticks right off the bat. I'm totally mega white and most teriyaki joints or even chinese restaurants generally are like "oh, you need a fork!". This place is great because they don't assume and they know that to a lot of us the chopsticks are a part of the experience we love! read more

This place is pretty freaking good for spicy chicken and beef teriyaki which comes with white rice and a small side salad. I like the chicken fried rice (huge portion) and the miso soup. That is the only soup they offer by the way. The lady shook her head no at me when I picked up the sriracha sauce. I like it so don't tell me I can't handle it. Good food, fast service for carry out, and not too bad on the wallet. I like the beef better slightly better than the chicken but getting the combo is a good way to go. read more

A solid place to get teriyaki. I tried it for the first time today, and was really impressed with how tender the chicken was. Not dry at all, very fresh. Nice! I had to take one star off though because of the glaze. While it was yummy, it was extremely salty. I don't remember ever having teriyaki glaze this salty anywhere. It was still edible and had a rich, dark soy flavor, though. The salad dressing is AMAZING. Seriously, seriously good. The rice, of which there was a huge portion, was perfectly cooked. I hate mushy rice, so this was a big plus. I'll be back! read more

Great little standard teriyaki shop. 3.5. If what you want is standard Western Washington Teriyaki. This place is it. They have your chicken with deep char grill marks. Your two scoops of rice and limp lettuce with oddly sweet ranch sauce. If that's what you are looking for this place has it. Its also clean, mom and pop owners are very pleasant and cute. Easily my go-to spot for teriyaki/katsu in the Ballard area. Portions are huge and always good service (even though I call in takeout almost every time). Their gyoza is amazing, as well as the gyoza sauce. They charge extra (25 cents) for sauce, but definitely worth it. They're white sauce is my favorite to put on my rice. I always get the Katsu no salad extra rice with a half order of gyoza or same thing but Katsu teriyaki combo. My personal record is going 3 times in a week. I walked in to get a take-out menu, and ten minutes later I was laden with a large to-go container of teriyaki pork! Besides the fact that it took less time to order and receive my food than it takes to write a facebook status, the portions were enormous and delicious. A whole heap of sticky white rice with a half pound of pork awaited me when I got home, along with a small boxed salad and dressing - all for about $8. Even though the sauce was delicious and the rice was perfectly cooked, there wasn't enough sauce for my liking and the pork was overcooked. At some points it felt like I was chewing jerky. They were probably waiting too long for someone to order pork after they slapped it on the grill. If the meat were tender and less chewy, this place would've received five stars. All in all, this place makes fast, large, delicious (although a little overcooked on mine) portions. The menu isn't huge, which makes it easier to make up your mind, and I've made up my mind to make this my go-to place for Asian takeout. read more

Consistently awesome. Spicy sauce has Korean gochujang, and the owners are so sweet and kind. Everything there is good, you can't lose.

The food here is great, cheap, and the service is fast and friendly. Take-out takes 10 minutes and I'm in and out with food for two for $20 or less. Their eggrolls are excellent and their portions are large. Downside: I get an upset stomach 3 out of 4 times here, but it's worth it. read more

I've heard that Sunny has the best teriyaki around interbay hands down. Today I stopped and ordered spicy pork and a side of gyoza. Pork was sliced really thin and chargrilled to deliciousness (a large portion). I upgraded to brown rice, also good. Classic iceberg salad accompaniment was decent. mmmm... teriyaki... conveniently located less than a mile from my apartment, i often stop here for some yum yum on the way home from work. i've tried a few things here like the basic chicken teriyaki plate, the stir-fry, the mongolian beef and the fried rice. they always give you plenty of food and it always tastes so good!! prices are reasonable and well worth it! the staff is incredibly friendly and you can always appreciate it when the workers actually look like they enjoy working in the food industry. it definitely shows in the quality of food they make! read more

This place is absolutely delicious! I live in magnolia and eat here minimum 2 to 3 times a week. The spicy chicken is easily the best in Seattle. The sauce is spicy but also sugary in really good way. And the chicken is high quality and cut into nice neat rows. No weird looking teriyaki mash-stuff here. Everytime I go here, it is the same lady in the front and she is really nice. Can't recommend this place enough. Also ordering ordering Yakisoba here is awesome. When the lady in the front yells "yah-kee-soo-ba to-go" the guys in back call back "YACKEESOBAA!!". They only do this for the yakisoba so this won't work chicken katsu or something else. This place has HUGE portions. I'm not a huge Teryaki fan so I normally get the Chicken Yakisoba and Gyoza here- which is just the greasy treat I need when I work outside! It's pretty cheap too ($6.50 for yakisoba, $4.50 for 3 eggrolls). Pretty standard teryaki, but they make it so fast there's very little waiting. Call ahead during lunch time! read more
