Sunset Oceanfront has some of the best room views, but the buildings themselves need major renovating asap. To start with, the security in this place is horrid. They do not use room cards, instead they use keys. There is no door bar lock that prevents someone from kicking open the door, and the deadbolt does not auto engage. The doors are in serious disrepair, and even when closed there is a major gap around the door to where you could see a lot of daylight. As a female that travels a lot, I would never stay here if I were alone. Too many security issues. Next is their continental breakfast. My opinion is either do a good breakfast or don't do one at all. Sunset's consists of yogurt cups, coffee/tea, pre-packaged muffins. That's it. The room is clean , but the furniture is mismatched. It is way past replacement time and there is a distinctive smell. It's not a gross smell, just an aged smell. If there is no other place to stay, you could stay her, but honestly your car has better security. read more

The people at Sunset are super nice. We stayed in the house across the street from the lobby, room 1413 I believe. It had the absolute best view you could possibly get. Beautiful wrap around porch with a small yard. There's a fireplace with logs, TV and a small book selection. This is an old house with alot of charm and memories. Wonderful view! Gotta give it that! No side tables, long fluorescent light to read by, very hot at night, no window to open - you just have to trust opening the sliding door for some air movement won't welcome unwanted visitors. I'll start off by giving this place a lucky 2 stars only because of the beach front view from our room. This is the worse hotel my family and I ever stayed in. This hotel needs to be fully renovated starting tomorrow. We paid $107 for one night but was worth $30. It was so bad that my husband wanted to sleep in the car, we didn't even bring our luggages into our room. Luckily, we had a picnic blanket with us and were able to lay that over the bed, we wore our shoes and sandals at all times, showered the next morning and left! I would NEVER stay here again and I don't recommend this place to anyone unless it is the only hotel left in the area. read more

This is a old nasty hotel built in the 1950s. It's musty and stinks. The carpet is stained and the bed is old and need to be replaced. The sheets are so old you can see though the threads. All the light fixtures are rusted and dated. No AC but with wood vent in the front and back that are so filthy and when the ocean breeze blows through the 50 years of dust blows in and you lay in bed and choke. The ice machine is just as gross with some old washer and dryer next to it with disgusting floors. At night people floating around and l could hear someone outside my glass sliding door. I wrote a review on Expedia the wrote back and lies about the conditions. Their looking for the money and could care less about your stay. Do not stay there. Go to the best western down the street. read more

I have stayed here more than once. You need to be careful on what room you get. Some are old and dingy, the Vern Brown rooms are newer. The prices however are too high in my opinion no matter what time of year and/or day of the week you go. They do not accept AARP or AAA so no discounts...ever! I'm staying in the Sunset tonight and couldn't wait to write a review. We checked in to the hotel and got our keys. We went to our rooms and then got settled in. After checking in I felt there was a mix up on some arrangements so I went down and expressed my concern to 'Sherry' at the front desk. She listened to what I had to say and then she very graciously straightened it out very quickly. I'm very pleased with the staff, their service and the accommodations. Highly recommend. We've been coming to Bandon and staying at the Sunset Motel for years. This time, however, we rented a cottage/house at Sunset in Bandon and were very disappointed. Our three-year-old granddaughter caught a flu bug, so accessing WiFi was really important. After not being able to log in with the given password, I called the front desk for help. The very disinterested person at the front desk said they had no idea what was wrong and that no one else had any complaints. (We never were able to access WiFi all weekend.) Additionally, trying to cook using the antiquated stove in the house was extremely difficult. Half the burners didn't work or worked inadequately. Obviously, some updates in technology are sorely needed! read more

Hands down the best stay in Bandon.. For the price and location you cannot beat this place.. Came for NYE, and to do some crabbing, reserved room weeks in advance and came in with low expectations.. Do not stay here! This place wasn't the cheapest and the first room we had was severely infested in fleas! They were everywhere in minutes. The next room we had here had stuff smeared on the bathroom door. This place needs to check on their rooms BEFORE people check-in. Especially if they have untill 4pm for peole th check in. We're getting married here in summer and will not recommend this place to any of our family. So disappointed in this place as it looks nice from the outside, but obviously they owners don't care enough to keep it clean for their customers. read more

Had a great stay at Sunset Lodging. My partner and I are traveling with a dog, and found the hotel via a google search for dog friendly hotels near Bandon. The rate was very good. The staff were friendly and accommodating to us and the dog. The view from the room was stellar, and the short walk down to the beach was easy. We also really enjoyed the dinner across the street at the restaurant. Sure, the decor in the rooms is s but dated, but that's part of the charm. This was such a disappointment. We thought it was on the beach... (actually traveled from Newport), but the motel was on the other side of the road with a sliver view. If the motel was on the water side, it may have been better. The rooms were budget... VERY OLD. Attending the reception desk which is "family owned" was Barbara. She was abrupt and unkind... Soooo, we paid the bill within 30 minutes of arriving and drove back north to Yachats (Fireside Motel) and stayed at a real water front hotel. My advice... if you are looking for a real ocean front hotel, choose another. If you want a budget hotel, old and needing a happy staff... go there. read more

This is my favorite go to lodging spot in Bandon, we stayed in the two story apartment , it had 2 baths a full kitchen living room and upstairs bedroom with a fireplace and balcony, the decor was rustic and furniture new, the shower had amazing water pressure and everything worked, the sliding glass door Downstairs looked right out to the beautiful beach we enjoyed our walks down to the beach and we're very happy to see that there was a guest access trail and stairs down to the sand. The lodge is pet friendly, and provide dog towels for the pups. Theres a free breakfast in the lobby with cereals breads toast milk yogurt and coffee , the staff was friendly and helpful. Our group had a great stay and we plan on going again soon. The price is great too it's about $50 a night per person for four guests including 3 dogs so it's well worth the price. Just got home from our second stay at beautiful Bandon Beach. The first time we had an upstairs ocean view room with a fireplace and sofa. The room was large and clean, quiet enough to hear the waves at night. Loved it so much I decided to return with my son. This time we were given the Vern Brown addition. These rooms are brand new, completed in July. The odor of new paint and flooring is still quite strong when the windows are closed so if you are sensitive take note. The room was smaller but with a brand new kitchenette complete with stove and microwave, fridge and coffeemaker. Everything was spotless with nice toiletries and soft towels. The view was incredible- sunset to sunrise amazing. The ocean is roaring here, no lulling waves. We slept with the window open and it was great. The bed was very firm. The walls are bright white and the lightning is also quite bright. Softer colors would be soothing after the glare of being on the beach all day. They left a broom and dustpan for us to use when coming in from the beach - a thoughtful touch. We had a slight error in booking but the front desk was very accommodating and they took care of it for us when we checked out. This is one of my favorite places and I will definitely return soon read more

People who rated this place one star are missing the point. There are amazing sea stack formations, sea caves, star fish, and all kinds of PNW amazingness at the beach down below. We stayed in the cheapest room we could get. The original rooms from the fifties, I think it was. It was dingy, the beds were hard, and the carpet was grimy. Yeah, it was gross. But it was warm, and clean...ish. For one night, it was fine. The breakfast was meager. Yogurt, hostess-type muffins and coffee. Front desk staff wasn't exactly the friendliest. Wifi was spotty. Laundry was a nice touch (especially for road-trippers) but pricey. Nevertheless, walk across the street and down to the beach to find all the reasons that make this THE place to stay in Bandon. When the tide goes out, you can walk out to these beautiful sea stack formations. All around them are tide pools with big orange and red star fish. We explored some more, heading south down the beach (that's left from the stairs, for anyone who is not directionally inclined) and we didn't have to look far to discover sea caves. Yeah, that's right. SEA CAVES. Places in the sea stacks where the ocean had hollowed out, big and wide enough to walk in at low tide. I am an East Coast girl, and this was my first time in Oregon, and I was baffled by the coolness of sea caves. (Tip: Your kids will love this, and they are not too scary or complicated to explore.) tl;dr: Management could definitely improve the conditions in the rooms, but one-star reviewers are missing the point. Get out of your hotel room and get on the beach. read more

This place was alright but I expected much better. I paid a pretty penny for an "ocean view" room, what a got was the view of a giant SUV parked right in front of my room blocking the view of ocean... if you're going to make your guests pay more for a room you should ensure they're getting the view they're paying for. While the 2nd floor rooms have a great view and those on the first floor closer to the lobby have an open yard between their room and the ocean all having a nice view, those rooms further from the lobby on the first floor have a view of parked cars directly in front room blocking the view of the ocean. It was very disappointing when we splurged on this room then got to hotel only to find out we'd been bamboozled. Other then being bamboozled and overpaying for a view that we didn't get, this is a good hotel overall. the breakfast is great, staff is kind and friendly, the indoor pool is great and the there is beach access right across the street. the rooms are a dated and could use updating but they're cozy and comfortable. wifi worked very well, would stay here again if the price was more reasonable and we if got what was advertised. read more

Let's be honest. It's all about the fact that the rooms (make certain you get the rooms right on the beach, not across the street) are spectacularly located with stunning views. For $175, for what you get, it's overpriced. But it's the only game in town and the owners know it so they don't have to offer special deals. You want a room on the beach, this is it. The room was clean enough, but funky is the word I'd use. We don't watch much TV so weren't bothered by the tiny screen. Folks are nice, breakfast is a joke, but it's all about the view. Access to the beach was easy, if you don't mind stairs, and you can walk for miles along one of the nicest beaches anywhere. Would I stay there again? Yes. I'd grumble about it but we've been occasional visitors since the late 80's when the beachfront rooms were new. If you can rent a home and split it with another couple, that's the best option and probably about the same price. read more

I won't argue that the view are impressive, you are quite literally on the beach and the property is large with several buildings containing various sized rooms. The economy rooms are very, very small but suitable for a one night stay. I booked one of the economy rooms as a cheap option during my drive up the coast from Los Angeles to Portland and ended up getting rerouted due to flooding which was going to put my arrival after their 10pm check-in time limit. I called straight away to inform them and they were very understanding, informing me that they would leave my key in the windowsill of the lobby and I would be able to just walk in and grab it to get into my room. I am a single female and was traveling alone so when I arrived at 10:30pm I was ready to get into my room after 13 hours on the road. I arrived to find the property completely dark and every door that I could find locked. I tried to not panic or get upset and continued to search diligently around for my key or an open door since there was a sign stating that late check in keys were in the windowsill. After searching I finally realized that my key was indeed on the windowsill, inside the room with locked doors that I couldn't get into. I was mortified. I called the first emergency contact number listed - no answer. I called the second emergency contact number listed and finally got an answer from someone who had to drive to the property to let me in. Fifteen minutes later they arrived and asked how I was doing with no apology for the situation. I got my key and got into my room around 11pm, exhausted and frustrated. The next morning I went to check out and it was clear that the situation had not been communicated to the woman at the front desk so I informed her what happened. She looked genuinely mortified by the occurrence but only offered an apology as she continued to charge me full price for a room I was in for 8 hours. She then asked me a few questions inquiring if I was sure the door was actually locked and that I actually had to call someone to let me in. Perhaps this was a one off but I certainly can't recommend staying here. The idea that there was more reliability in booking a motel over a nice place likes this truly is disappointing. read more

We got a room on the beach, it's a cabin with two rooms on top, and one larger room on the bottom. I'll start with the good: the room is spacious, consisting of two parts, a bed/bathroom area with a queen bed and a shower bathroom, and a sitting area with a lovely couch, TV, chair, refrigerator, desk, etc. The sliding glass door leading to the small balcony was a bit rickety, but opened onto an amazing view of the beach and the rocks. The beach is literally steps away, down two small staircases and you're on the sand. The room was immaculate (well, the toilet bowl was stained so it always looked like someone forgot to flush) and the towels were plush and lovely. The sheets were OK, the blanket was OK, the bed was just right. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Let me just reiterate: the view is amazing. We left the sliding door open and the sound of the waves crashing was like music. The not so good: the walls. Dear me, the paper thin walls. The people below us were loud, talking and laughing and thumping around well into the night, even after being asked to be quiet (they did finally stop). We could hear actual words through the floor, even with the door and window closed and the TV on. There is no Internet in the rooms located away from the motel itself and, as mentioned, the only service available if you're not on AT&T is a spotty AT&T single bar roamer that picks up and drops off intermittently. Breakfast was interesting (though it looked like something from The Walking Dead, people shuffling around in ratty pajamas trying to figure out the waffle maker thingy), they had tea (thankfully, bc there was no tea in the room, only coffee), coffee, cereal and milk, a waffle maker, and yoghurt (the yoghurt was good, though). No fruit or muffins that I could see. I grabbed some tea and a yoghurt, and we were out of there. Not sure if I'd do it again. $150 for a room with no Internet service or even cell service, paper thin walls and floors, no phone, but an outstanding view, decent room, and nice (evening) staff ... probably not. read more

The rooms are pretty weird, like being in a ship cabin. The ceilings are only about 7 feet tall, and the tv was places on the SIDE of the beds. That all said, it was a nice place for $80/night, and right next to the beach. I have no REAL complaints. I'm a budget hotel person. I don't need much. Just a bed, a shower, and some wifi. We got the 2 queen studio. Pretty nice size room with a couch and a "fireplace" sliding doors with a partial view of the ocean. You could walk right out the door across the street and down the beach. Beds were comfy. Pool was ok hot tub was nice. Overall pretty nice stay. It was a little pricey comparatively to other beach front hotels in Newport, seaside etc. read more

Let me start by saying that the room was nice and cute. A queen bed, small tv (19" or so), sink, shower, toilet, coffee maker. They also allow dogs so we brought our pit bull which was very nice. I wouldn't stay here again if someone paid me. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything your neighbors are saying. We were woken up at 5 am by the people upstairs. Every time they walk around, our room squeaks LOUD. When they turn on their water it is like the water is on in our room. And to boot, they have a herd of unruly children that keep stomping and running back and forth up there. But even just normal walking sounds like stomping. No possible way you get any sleep if you're downstairs and have people upstairs. No. Way. read more

We really like Sunset Oceanfront Lodging in Brandon, OR. It is right on a gorgeous beach with craggy rocks. The room was large, had a gas fireplace and a full kitchen. We were afraid with 3 people in the room it would be cramped but there was plenty of room and a divider between the beds. We enjoyed the hot tub (they give you towels) and brought complimentary coffee and tea back to the room. They have free WiFi and a continental breakfast. Parking is right in front of your room and the front desk clerk's could not have been nicer. have already sent pictures to friends and will certainly come back again. read more

I saw the reviews after we booked (unfortunately) I was hopeful because we stayed in one of the "newer rooms", but the decorations took me back to the 90's. The room was huge, but very poorly furnished and half heartedly decorated. The woman at the front didn't seem very happy to see us, which always makes for a great welcome! Please upgrade your comforters, lamps and tv's at least. The tv is so tiny compared to the large room, and has mini seizures when changing the channel. read more

This was a great value and very comfortable with great staff! We stayed in the main building with ocean view from across the street. Nice sitting area outside, big room, fireplace, frig, micro and sitting area. 5 minutes from downtown and a dinner house next door. The only two minor negatives was the room was so large that the TV was too small for viewing from the bed. It was ok, but would recommend a larger screen. The second was that the cleaning staff left tip envelopes. Not a fan of this and actually thought of tipping prior to seeing the tip envelope. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but was just something I have not experienced except on cruise ships. We were there for four nites and would have stayed longer if not for a family emergency! I won't stay there again!! We travel with our dog...note: He's quite and very calm, can't say the same for the mom and brat that were next to us. Our room because we had a dog was to say the least "The worst room I have ever stayed in!!!" First it was on the north end over the maintenance garages. The stairs have roofing shingles nailed to them to keep you from slipping. The room was an oversized kennel...my dog has better accommodations. Everything that is metal is rusty, the bed has to be 20 years old. The bathroom is 5x7 with a 7 foot ceiling...you can wash your hands, go to the bathroom and start your shower without moving from the toilet. Hopefully anyone traveling with a pet will go to a Best Western (by far the most pet friendly) because this place SUCKS!!! read more
