We came to Asheville to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We could go to Sunset Terrace before and knew that we really want to come back again. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and it was pretty cloudy but we had a great view of the clouds and rain. Lol but the service we received in the food that we got definitely made up for the sad weather. We started out with shrimp and dumpling appetizer. It sounds so simple but it was phenomenal. The dumplings were actually more like flat disks that sort of tasted like gnocchi. It was in a wonderful broth and we use the bread to soak it up. My husband ordered the venison steak with sautéed mushrooms and he was blown away at how wonderful it was. The venison was perfectly cooked And even I enjoyed it, and normally I do not like venison that much. When we first came in I could smell scallops from the table across from us. There were three ladies and all three of them had ordered the seared scallops entrée. There were three large scallops that were expertly seared in place to top a cauliflower slaw and pea purée. I really enjoyed the entire entrée. The slaw had a slight curry taste to it. The pea purée was simple but elegant. Overall the flavors all melted together and was perfection. For dessert we ordered the Apple crumble with the ice cream on the side. Normally the ice cream is served on top with a white chocolate thin strip placed on top of that. But since there was no ice cream on top they just laid that white chocolate strip on top. I just do not prefer ice cream on my crumble so we had it served on the side. A great place for dinner or a cocktail. We had reservations for dinner near sunset time and the view is spectacular. We were celebrating our anniversary and they were kind enough to give both of us a glass of champagne. Our server was fantastic, Dawid, was just so great in all aspects. Fun to talk to, very knowledgeable about the menu and even the wine list. The wine list is extensive and just fun to read and there are many nice drinkable wines at a reasonable price and also the big time expensive wines. Our meal was very good. We split a wedge salad and they split it for us and served on two plates. My pork chop was so good and cooked perfectly and she had some seafood and was very please. Just remember that it is a tad on the expensive side. We also stopped in another evening a little later and were able to have a drink on the terrace. Views are wonderful and the service was good but the food was mediocre at best. Filet ordered medium was two stages under cooked. Seasoning wasn't terrible. Side of mashed potatoes were cold as soon as they came out and the creamed spinach was 90% cream and 10% spinach. It was more like cheesy spinach soup. Bill for a single person with desert over $200. Get there early. Valet park which is $25 (remember you're paying for the view) and enjoy a cocktail before dinner in the lobby with live music. Perhaps it was not his thing, but it's quite expensive to not taste good. Luckily his mashed potatoes were good, but $100 for his entree and side is not worth it. My chicken and pasta dish was good, but not something I'd go out of my way to eat again. Unfortunately, my husband ordered a simple cocktail and even that wasn't made correctly. Overall, the food here is excellent. The difficulty is getting to the food. Since this restaurant is immediately off of the lobby at the Groverpark Inn, they are not hurting for customers. Reservations are a must. Service felt rushed. Server was forgetful of some basic request (e.g. salt & pepper for a salad). Everyone's food here was excellent. The lobster on the cobb salad was definitely share worthy. Go for the food and the views. The most incredible food ever. The service was so wonderful, they made us truly feel like royalty. We started with shrimp cocktail and the cheese and meat plate. Both were out of this world. We then split the wedge salad, which was wonderful with the crispy bacon. For our entree, we split a filet, and it was cooked to perfection, and so tasty. I want to start this review by saying the service we got from David was phenomenal from start to finish, he was so excellent! The scenery was stunning. Our bottle of wine was so good and the wine service was very attentive and professional. The bottle we got was only 85 dollars (still expensive but we picked a cheaper option) I posted a picture of it if you don't know a lot about wine and just want a good red, David walked us through our options. I have mixed feelings about the food. The scallops were amazing and if we return we will get the entree , we just added the scallops to our steak. David made sure we knew it was only two scallops, so I can't put any fault there. But only receiving two scallops for 28 dollars is a little steep, I know it's fine dining though. They were so so good. The steak for 80 dollars was a little bland, but they do give you a sauce of your choice. We tried three sauces total and they were all good. But if you're looking for a flavorful strip steak without sauce, this isn't it. The other steaks could be different. The macaroni was BOMB! So good. The asparagus was mediocre, I've had better, I've had worse. What is so cool is that you can freely roam the grounds after dining (honestly I don't even think you need to eat here to be able to do so) after eating I grabbed a lavender and gin cocktail , it was very yummy. The place is stunning and if you walk down to the spa area there's a fountain that's really nice. I'd recommend coming here, especially for the ambiance. If you're a foodie coming for just food , maybe go elsewhere. But we had a good experience overall read more

Fried avocado spears is a delicious start with ricotta, cajun sauce and remoulade. Crispy braised beef empanadas were perfect with chile salsa and pico de gallo. The salmon salad made a tasty and satisfying lunch item, served with spinach, kale, berries, feta cheese, chile pepitas and apple cider vinaigrette. Friends from New Orleans were visiting Asheville and, among other things, wanted to see the Grove Park Inn, so we had lunch at the Sunset Terrace. At dinner, this is now an upscale steak, chops and seafood place, but at lunch it offers resort fare, including sandwiches, salads and entrees on the lighter side. We were impressed by the service at the Omni Grove Park Inn, starting with a greeter who met the cars and directed us to the valet (a bit steep at $20). We had drinks at the Great Hall bar, and amazingly on an August day there was a fire going in one of the huge fireplaces. The host directed us to our table on the outdoor patio, with stunning views of downtown Asheville and the mountains. Our group of seven had a very enjoyable meal. The favorites by far were the pastrami sandwiches with fries ($18). The Caesar salad was okay, but the Cobb salad wasn't much like the Cobb you'd expect, being mostly spinach and lettuce. With drinks and tips, the luncheon came to about $300, but with the view, atmosphere and good service, it was a delightful experience. Tip: If trying to make or change reservations, don't call the toll-free number but use the local concierge desk number (828-252-2711) and ask for dining. read more

My duaghters ordered was messed up which happens but he didnt really want to do much to fix it. We travel once a year with two other couples and always try to pick a place for a memorable evening and this year was Sunset Terrace. We had a sunset reservation and hoped to enjoy the weather, fall leaves and sunset but the rain took that away from us. It was a bit chilly on the terrace and wished there were heaters in the center as well as the sides of the terrace to make it more comfortable. The weather aside, we really enjoyed our dining experience. Service was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menus. Everyone agreed my Basil Peach Gimlet cocktail was the one to have. Others had the Old Fashioned, wine, local seasonal beer. As for the food, I love good seafood and the Chilean Sea Bass was spot on! Other entrees ordered were the Center Cut Filet Mignon, Prime New York Strip, Scottish Salmon and lastly the Domestic Lamb Leg Chop. These items don't come with sides so for the 6 of us we ordered 2 orders of the Merchand de Vin potatoes (red potatoes in sauce) and one order each of the Brussels sprouts and asparagus. Our server Jonathan was attentive in the beginning but then sort of left us alone. We had to ask for a desert menu which he brought but took way too long to ask if we wanted desert. Never asked us how our meals were. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was very spicy, which I didn't care for. I also ordered the crab cake sandwich with no bun. It was huge, but it was mostly filler and minimal crab(though it did have quite a bit of shells in it). Came to the Omni to tour the wedding venue and we arrived early to eat here. We had the absolute best service, our waiter Brian was very attentive, positive and energized - best waiter I have had in years! We had the Tuna Stack as an appetizer, very good but was a bit small. We had the bottle of Lavo Cerqueira, Vinho Branco white wine, which was light and has an amazing after taste. For my entire I had the Seared Salmon Berry Salad, it was amazing so many berries (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry) and a large piece of salmon. I had a cappuccino for desert. Brian helped me figure out where to eat for dinner, providing numerous top rated restaurants around the area. We will definitely come back. LOVE LOVE LOVE! I was visiting Asheville alone in the height of Covid (July 2020) and desired a good steak meal on a patio/rooftop with a view, preferably at sunset. After no luck with getting into other places (due to Covid restrictions), I stumbled upon this restaurant while checking out the hotel. I asked, feeling hopeless, if they had any open reservations for that night for 1. She advised that they had one right then (which was about 5pm) or 9pm. I took the 9pm but decided that I'd arrive early to witness the sunset views. I arrived at approx 8 and went ahead and advised them that I was there and ready whenever they were. She was able to seat me right them. Fantastic! I decided to have a "treat yo'self" night and had a filet with scallops, a side of mushrooms, a glass of Pinot Nior, and topped it all off with the deconstructed strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Gotta say, it's the most I've ever spent on a meal for myself but I ate every last drop of it... it was totally worth every penny. I'm more of a ribeye girl and not a big fan of filets but I admit, it was very flavorful for a filet and the scallops were perfectly seared. The 1 glass of wine did cost more than I can buy the whole bottle for but I get that's the game with wine mark-ups in the restaurant industry. What can ya do?!?! ha The view was great and the service was fantastic. My waitress, Valentina S (per my receipt), was even kind enough to take a picture of me with the view (remember, I was traveling alone). My friends and I dined here for lunch on our way back to Atlanta from a weekend in TN. Absolutely loved the gorgeous views here! Seriously, this place is worth checking out just for the views alone. Dining in October, we experienced light, crisp fall chill as we sat on the terrace surrounded by the warm heat lamps. Service was great our entire meal. The lunch menu is a bit pricey but hey, you're paying for the ambiance, right? I consider the menu a bit limited in terms of variety. It took me a while to decide on what to order but after walking around and scoping out the views, I spotted a gorgeous salad being eaten by a lady at the table next to mine and knew I had to have it. The salad was the lobster cobb: applewood smoked bacon / tomatoes / eggs / blue cheese / cucumbers / basil ranch dressing. The salad costs a whopping $25 but because it looked so delicious, I ordered it without hesitation. When our food arrived, the salad was huge! It contained a ton of lobster but didn't have that fresh lobster taste (you've ruined me, New England!), instead the lobster was wet and salty. The lettuce was also wet as if it had just been recently washed. The basil ranch dressing, which I was hoping would be the star of the show, was incredibly bland and didn't save this $25 simple dish at all. I ended up eating the most valuable parts of the salad - the lobster, bacon, and egg - and tossed the rest. Perhaps I would have had better luck with a different dish here. Honestly a fabulous experience. I don't know what my expectations were, but we had an awesome spot underneath some heaters. The temperature had dropped pretty dramatically and considering how open the restaurant is that was a pleasant addition. We ordered the Caesar salad which had some nice citrus flavors in it which were delightful. I ordered the filet with seasonal veggies and my boyfriend had the dry aged New York strip with mashed potatoes. We shared the sides, naturally. The food was cooked to perfection. Service was solid. I had surf and turf with it being some sort of fried fish and a filet. It was cooked soooo well. Over some creamy mashed potatoes. I can't say enough good things. Dessert was a blueberry lemon tart that looked like it was from outer space which was sort of weird and sort of cool but just so so soo delicious. During our stay at the hotel we had lunch here one day and dinner one night. The dinner was much better than the lunch. During lunch the service was terrible, the worst employee we encountered at the hotel. He was slow, not friendly, didn't tell us any information or specials and we know they had some because we overhead another employee telling a different table after we ordered. The burger I had was flavorless and not correctly cooked. Dinner was much better and the service was good. I had the chicken and it was good and my husband was very happy with his elk.
