The salad was very good but the sandwich was great. For dessert we had a peach triffle - it was okay. Needs some improvement and a nutela brownie mouse. That was really good. Perfect place to enjoy a meal with a view. There is lots of covered outdoor seating with the Blue Ridge Mountains as they backdrop. We went for lunch and started off with Bloody Marys. The pickled asparagus was a nice touch, but the drink itself was pretty average. Next came starters, which included Avocado Toast and Tuna Tartare and the Daily Soup. I can't speak for the Avocado Toast, but my friend enjoyed it. The soup was a delicious white bean and tasso ham. The Tuna Tartare was fresh and full of flavor. For my main, I got the Lobster Cobb Salad and they did not skimp on the lobster. It was a perfect lunchtime meal. Everyone enjoyed their meals too, so it was a win all around. During our stay at the hotel we had lunch here one day and dinner one night. The dinner was much better than the lunch. During lunch the service was terrible, the worst employee we encountered at the hotel. He was slow, not friendly, didn't tell us any information or specials and we know they had some because we overhead another employee telling a different table after we ordered. The burger I had was flavorless and not correctly cooked. Dinner was much better and the service was good. I had the chicken and it was good and my husband was very happy with his elk. BEWARE! Their new parking charges added $65 to our meal!!! This is a huge change and they claim they do this during the holidays but I don't know what holiday happens on October 2. That's crazy! My friend and I ordered a Strawberry Field Greens salad which our lovely server, Sara, recommended as her favorite because they make the spiced candied pecans in-house. Our salad came without any pecans and ONE strawberry. Luckily Sara rectified that quickly. My husband loved the Chophouse Salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon radishes, chickpeas, pickled red onion and house-made balsamic vinaigrette. My friend's entree was Lemon Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower with farro, lemon-basil pesto, fried caper berries, blistered cherry tomatoes & vegan lemon butter. It was just okay. She liked the tomatoes but the rest was under-seasoned. Barely a "B". I had two of the sides as an entree Wild Mushrooms and Roasted Brussels. The Brussels were great. The Wild Mushrooms were also under-seasoned. We had the shrimp cocktail and the house Mac and Cheese. Both were good. We could have ordered the 5 oz Miyazaki Beef filet for $150 but we passed! The view was absolutely breathtaking, and the furniture was a beautiful arts and crafts style to match the stunning hotel. 3.5 stars. Beautiful view and excellent service. I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the filet mignon with gratin dauphinois. We split a salad to start. Salad was good with tender greens, candied pecans, sliced oranges and goat cheese. Dressing was very light but the goat cheese was plentiful. I think using seasonal fruit (eg blackberries, peaches in August rather than sliced oranges) would improve the salad. My shrimp scampi was good but not the best I've had. House made pasta was tender. Sauce was very light and tasted strongly of lemon. Shrimp were overcooked, what few there were. For $38 I would expect more shrimp! My husband's filet topped with bleu cheese was excellent, as it should be for $75 and no side items included! The gratin dauphinois (scalloped potatoes) was very good - creamy with nutmeg and Gruyère - and would have been excellent if not for the overpowering saltiness. Come for the view and the service. We had an excellent experience at Sunset Terrace. We were not hotel guests of the Grove Park Inn and were able to make a lunch reservation and explore the grounds. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view! I ordered the burger and it was by far the best burger I've ever had. We went here for my wife's birthday. The hotel and view are breathtaking. I wish the food and service matched it. We saved this for the last night of our vacation, thinking it would be a highlight and was very disappointed. The server did little to sell the menu, we had to ask what the soup was and if there were any specials. Had the rib-eye and a wedge salad while my wife had salmon and the ceaser salad, dauphinoise potatoes and green beans as sides. Food was ok, but nothing special. Didn't even make our top 5 for places we ate in Asheville. Service was just bad. Never offered a refill on our drinks, our empty glasses from the lobby sat for the duration of our meal. They asked if we wanted our check before our main course was served, making us feel unwelcome. We ended finding a birthday dessert somewhere else. Would not come here for dinner again. We stopped in primarily for drinks and the view. We weren't very hungry, so we just had some apps for our meal. Kim was a great waitress and helped guide our selection with much appreciated honest input (steering us away from the octopus as she noted patrons are routinely underwhelmed and highlighting the most popular drinks and food). We started with the lavender 75 and basil & peach gimlet. The lavender was fresh in the drink as well as the basil (a lot of it, but I loved it). The basil drink was super refreshing and perfect for a warm summer evening! For the apps, we had the pork belly, trumpet mushrooms and crab cake. The trumpet mushrooms with cornbread puree was creamy and delicious! The crab cake had a great amount of lump crab in it and a slightly crispy edge to it, but we probably wouldn't get it again, the flavor was okay. The pork belly with mustard greens was our favorite of the 3 apps. The pork belly was perfectly cooked with a light crispy surface and very flavorful with the mustard greens and miso orange glaze. It was worth the experience for a sunset view, just be aware this has the potential to be an incredibly expensive meal depending on what you order! We saw plenty of other tables with what appeared to be well prepared steaks, we just had too big of a lunch that day to be ordering one! read more

Great spot and views like the reviews said. I would recommend just going there after dinner to order a glass of wine from the hotel bar and sit on the outdoor patio. Dinner was fabulous (very pricey though). Definitely a place for special occasions... we ordered the Chicken dish and Pork Chop, the Pork Chop came out cold and raw, they immediately took it back and brought the temp up and it was delicious. The Chef also paid for our Apple Cobbler which was to die for! Won't be back necessarily but definitely good food but better views if you have the money to spend! read more

I agree that this is a treat yo'self sort of establishment within an establishment. The valet is $20 but you can park across from the Grove Park Inn for free for three hours. The main attraction is not the food or service but the view and the prices reflect that. The food is stellar quality with fresh fresh fresh fare (higher end steaks and seafood in the evenings and sadnwiches and salads for lunch). The service is reminiscent of a smoky steak/bar in NYC but the views remind you that you are in Hill country with fresh produce and meat available as soon as you walk out of this Giant's Luxury Cabin that is the Grove Park Inn. The vegan salad was actually delicious with Farrow, tomatoes, onions all adding fusion of color and tastes. The chopped salad is a hefty helping indeed. The avocado toast has a delicious citrus marmalade (worth a try even if you are not a marmalade person) topped with delicate fresh herbs and colorful tomatoes boated onto a fresh (and thankfully not over chewy) bread. As others have said the View here at the Sunset Terrace at the Omni Hotel is breathtaking and a great setting to enjoy a meal. Yes - it will be an expensive meal - but you're paying for the setting, the view, and the exceptional service. My wife and I shared the Tomahawk Steak for two with two sides and were impressed. Was it the best steak we ever had? No it was not. But add in great drinks, beautiful sunset, and a server who genuinely wanted to make our experience top notch and we thought the price was well worth it. I had the elk chops with whipped potatoes and roasted miatake mushrooms (what can I say I'm a Fungi). The food was excellent. The wife and I have been a heath food kick for a while so this meal seemed to be very salty, but other than that it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the mixed green and sweet peppers and she said it was excellent as well. The beer and wine list and magnificent and was paired to what ever you where planing on eating that night by awesome wait staff. Nothing short of spectacular! Only in the area for the day, we visited for lunch. The food, service and atmosphere was first rate. This is a must see. The experience began when we parked and walked up to the historic hotel, the grounds are well kept with mature trees. You feel as though you're walking back in time. As you walk through the lobby, you see why they call this Sunset Terrace. The multi-leveled view of the mountains are breathtaking. Though the weather was overcast and chilly, ceiling mounted space heaters provided enough warmth to keep us outside. We were greeted by our server Lex within a minute. She reviewed the menu options, made recommendations, etc. I am VERY particular about service. She was the best server I've seen in years. I ordered a BLT club sandwich with fried green tomatoes, and freshly done side salad. My daughter had the Lobster Cobb salad. Each was nicely presented, fresh, great flavors. We loved the service, view and meal. After lunch, we walked the hotel, reading of all the historic figures who visited the Inn during its 100 years of service. Quite impressive! Lastly, don't forget your wallet. The Cobb salad will set you back $28. A few entrees were in the same price range. Sandwiches and other salads were in the $15 range. For us, totally worth it. We had an awesome dinner at the Sunset Terrace! Is it cheap? No! But I certainly didn't expect it to be considering the location. I mean you really cannot beat that view at sunset. When I called to make dinner reservations the concierge was able to tell me the time of sunset that day so we could book our reservation accordingly. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday and even got to ring the sunset gong to celebrate the occasion. The appetizers all sounded delicious and we almost went with the seafood tower, but then decided to go with a bit of surf and turf. We split the bone in ribeye with a lobster tail and it was excellent. Plenty for the both of us as well. I could have eaten about five more lobster tails. The mac and cheese as a side was also quite tasty. For dessert we went with the ricotta cheesecake, with lemon poppy seed pound cake, and blueberries. The dessert was amazing, probably one of my top five desserts. It just needed a little blueberry sauce over the cheesecake to make it perfect. I wish I was hungrier to fully enjoy it more! They also brought out a plate of French macaron's with Happy Birthday written in chocolate which I thought was a nice birthday touch. The reason for not giving it five stars was the service was good, but not excellent. I feel like our server just had a few too many tables to really give outstanding service to each one. I agree with many other reviews that this is a better place to stay enjoy the view than the food. The only real reason to go here is for the view and convenience if you're staying at the hotel. The food is overpriced ($75 for a filet) the drinks are over priced ($15-20 for most) and the service is slow (15 minutes to get drinks). One thing really ticked me off. My wife asked for a house red blend. The server said OK. When we got the bill the server said "oh by the way we don't have a house red blend so I just got you a red blend." We started with salads that were very nice and had an appetizer of tuna tartare. I ordered the elk loin chop which was the best thing we ordered in my opinion. It was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the ideal accompaniment. The wife had the scallops which had a perfect sear and were delicious. I guess my only issue with the place is that the food is pretty basic and I like cuisine that is creative and non-traditional. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and very good, but just lacked the wow factor. I imagine this is probably what the standard demographic they cater too feels comfortable with; dependable classics deftly prepared. Come for a good to great meal and a fantastic vista. We got the Brie and the "jumbo" shrimp cocktail for appetizers. The Brie was good and the shrimp were as expected but not jumbo. I repeat: NOT JUMBO. I don't have a picture of the shrimp bc they were small and I ate them quickly. Sorry. They were regular shrimp, I've seen jumbo shrimp and these were not it. Shrimp were entirely too pricey for the size and portion. Their complimentary bread was delicious though. We got the chicken to share and again, eh. Average. The Mac and cheese side was good and the onion rings were also bland but okay. Drinks were alright. Service was good too, nothing bad, but for the price point of this place I expect way better!! Look, this restaurant is part of a hotel that starts at $400 a night...STARTS! So yeah, I expect awesome when the "jumbo" shrimp cost $12-14. I don't expect 6 regular size shrimp. The views are stunning, the place is serene. There is valet or self parking. Valet is also expensive (like $10-15)? Meh. Try it out bc it's a cool place for a sunset. Make reservations. Exactly what I wanted :-) We stayed 1 night at the Omni grove Hotel and i decided to book a table for that night, we checked the restaurant after we checked in and i was so excited to try the restaurant. 1- The view is incredible, we can see the mountain we booked our table for 6.30 so we can see the sunset. 2- Great surprise they have kids menu, i was worried about that and already checked what i could order for my 2 kids (8 and 6 Y) 3- We ordered : *** NY Strip *** Pork chop *** Asparagus and potatoes gratin *** 1 kid meal with chicken fingers and brocolini ( instead of fries) *** Simple salad My only complain would be the wait to have our food (1hour ) , i did not mind waiting but my kids were starving !!!
