The views are 5+ the drinks are subpar hence the 3 star rating. We grabbed drinks and sat on the terrace. Definitely worth it for what you get to see. However if I were to go back I'd probably stick with a glass of wine or beer. The sangria and old fashioned we ordered were not the best. read more

My wife and I went to dinner here this evening and had a terrible experience. Without embellishment, this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. When we arrived the two front hostesses were more concerned about booking reservations than seating the line of customers waiting. The largest problem is that, because of the location, half the tables are under direct sunlight and the other half are located in the shade. The tables in the shade have fans above them, whilst those in the sun do not have any fans or respite from the sun. The hostess sat my heavily pregnant wife directly in the sun and declined to seat us in the shade since those tables were for parties of 4, and the tables for two were already full? I put a question mark because our reservation was for 5pm and almost all the tables were empty. My wife could not finish her dinner before we had to leave because we were both saturated in sweat. I am hoping neither she or I develop a sun burn. Lathering ourselves in sunscreen before going to a 5 star restaurant isn't something we anticipated having to do. The drinks we bought were warm within 10 minutes. Obviously, from sitting directly in the sun. I can not emphasize enough how unpleasant of an experience this restaurant was. Although the server was very good and attentive, and the food decent- this was not a $170 meal. 45 minutes, 1 beer, 2 soups, one main dish and 1 side. We went back in to give feedback to the manager, but the hostesses were back to it on the phones scheduling bookings instead of helping the now 4 couples deep line of people. read more

We were treated to dinner by my husbands father and I was thrilled. $60 prime rib which I had to cut out a lot of fat (not a fan of fat, should have gotten the other meat) but otherwise wow, so good. Husband got the elk and he's REALLY not a fan of fatty meat so our waiter gave him a good suggestion cause he loved it. As others have said the View here at the Sunset Terrace at the Omni Hotel is breathtaking and a great setting to enjoy a meal. Yes - it will be an expensive meal - but you're paying for the setting, the view, and the exceptional service. My wife and I shared the Tomahawk Steak for two with two sides and were impressed. Was it the best steak we ever had? No it was not. But add in great drinks, beautiful sunset, and a server who genuinely wanted to make our experience top notch and we thought the price was well worth it. The perfect sunset spot: this restaurant at The Grove Park Inn is your best bet for a beautiful view of the sunset and an absolutely lovely dinner with excellent service to compliment it. Be prepared to spend some money though. They are known for their meats and are a nine-time recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, most recently in 2015. Reservations in advance are a must, as this place is very popular around the time the sun is setting. While the meat is good, the seafood is great as well. If you're torn between items on the menu I would definitely recommend getting a steak. There are many sauces to choose from to compliment it. I'd also recommend getting a bottle of wine if you're really taking your time at dinner to enjoy the sunset view. The wait staff is really knowledgeable about their items and wine list. Must get sides: Their sides are family style and do not disappoint. Their twice baked potato is filling but a must. Biscuits and honey butter-excellent. Lobster cobb salad-OMG huge amount of lobster, 5 stars for that. Green goddess dressing, delicious but could have used just a little more dressing (for my taste). House smoked pastrami-yum-downside is that the bread is toasted and not grilled. Big boo on that. I think all the sandwiches had toasted bread. Beef tips with blue cheese and mushrooms were very good too, cooked nicely, over rice, wish they were a touch drier-they were pretty drenched in sauce which kind of ruins it for me. But otherwise the dish was done really nicely. Coffee-perfect. Service was kind of slow, but it didn't matter because the food was so good. This place is a beautiful lunch splurge or romantic dinner. After exploring Asheville's food scene, Sunset Terrace is BY FAR the BEST restaurant in Asheville for dinner. I am not a steak person by any means, but the filet was nothing but 5 star. In addition, our waiter Owen was fantastic. He was so humble and my fiancé and I just found ourselves wanting to learn his story! He even sent out a desert on him for us to conclude our vacation. Came down from a hike at craggy pinnacle and had the best experience. Drive down takes you on all back roads through the mountains until you pop out at the beautiful Omni Grove. Cody was 100% the best service I have had in Asheville since moving here in April! Food was delicious, view was amazing. Had the short rib sandwich and espresso martini would have both again. The hotel and the grounds are amazing but I was not impressed with the food here. I ordered foie gras And unfortunately it was the worst I have ever had. They just didn't give this dish any justice. That was unfortunate for me because I usually love this dish. Our waitress deeply apologized and said we would not be charged for the dish which was very kind of her. My main course was delicious. It was scallops that were buttery and light. They were served on top of lentils and something else I forgot but very yummy. Dessert was also yummy a cheesecake twist dish which was delicious. Lived in Asheville a long time and Grove Park Inn has always been a favorite for special occasions. I took my elderly mother there for lunch today and we decided to split the crab cake sandwich. Having grown up in Maryland I know a good crab cake and the Grove Park used to have one of the best around. Not so anymore. If you are looking for a good old regular delicious crab cake DO NOT expect to find one here. It was so spicy hot, that I couldn't even eat it and did not let my mother touch it! There may have been some tasty crab meat in there, but one could never know because of the ridiculous amount of spicing. When something is good, I will never understand why a chef has to do something different with it. Additionally on another note all together... the Sunset Terrace - a fabulous place to dine - was so incredibly noisy it also added negatively to our experience. The restaurant was bustling and in addition to the noise of the conversations,there was a steady thump from the "music" in the background which did NOTHING to enhance the atmosphere! When you stay at Grove Park Inn, you have to dine here, but make a reservation because it is the most popular restaurant on the resort. The main attraction here in the amazing view of the mountains. So request a table by the rail, so you can fully enjoy it. The menu has some great options, but the best items are the steaks. The bread was really good too and the wine list is nice. The crisp air makes for the best ambiance while dining. We started with drinks having Bee's Knees, Cucumber Collins and a Bloody Mary, all of which were wonderful. For food we started with the Avocado Toast which was fantastic! Followed by the Salmon Paillard, Steak Tips, Smoked Pastrami Sandwich, and the Fried Green Tomato BLT. The Salmon was cooked and seasoned to perfection! The Fried Green Tomatoe BLT was packed full of flavor and it a great vegetarian option that is super filling. The Smoked Pastrami Sandwich, OG my goodness is sooo worth the calories! Warm soft meat smothered in onions, cheese and other amazing fixings. Melts in your mouth! Although my personal favorite was the Steak Tips which are served with mushrooms, broccoli over grits that are heavenly. Overall an incredible dining experience in an amazing location with views that cannot be beat! We will definitely be back when we are in town again. read more

We had a wonderful experience at lunch on a beautiful sunny day in October. We had reservations and were promptly seated right by the edge of the terrace with a million dollar view. Food was good and service was excellent. We truly enjoyed walking around the hotel, sitting by the large fireplace in the lobby, and reading the history of the place. Our waiter recommended the sunset from the Mount Pisgah Inn and we did go up that afternoon (5,500Ft) it was an amazing sunset. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Asheville. read more

We went for my sister's wedding. She made a reservation for 14 people months in advance. When we went in, we found out that they were sitting us at 2 separate tables far from each other. They were really picky about reservations but not only did they not mention that we won't be able to sit together when she made the reservation, they didn't even give us 2 tables close by each other to have a conversation. It was so inconvenient. Also, I think they were trying to take too many reservations or something because people sitting behind me kept hitting my chair every time they got up. The space was a little tight to have that many people in the same area. As far as the food goes, I ordered the Joyce Farms Chicken but I wasn't too impressed. Only a few people from my party enjoyed their food. The view from the restaurant was great and that's basically what you're paying for. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and chose Sunset Terrace because we could sit outside and enjoy the phenomenal view and have a nice meal. This was just after they opened again because of Covid. We were assured over the phone they were doing everything to make sure things were clean and safe. We were really looking forward to a lovely meal out! So... The table felt sticky and had crumbs. We sent back forks that had food on them. As we were sitting for our meal, the group close to us got up and left. Dishes were picked up, a rag was used to literally wipe all the mess off the table onto the floor and then they seated the next group. No cleaner was used on anything. The floor had food on it. Seeing this, we felt nothing was clean and safe. We ordered the Charcuterie Board and champagne. It was not very generous for the price but we knew going in we were paying for the view. The lobster salad, however, was a nice amount. Unfortunately they had put avocado on that was literally sliced mush. It was watery and tasted terrible. I believe it had been frozen. We asked a passing waitress if we could have it replaced and when she looked at it she was startled and said it looked disgusting saying she loves avocado and wouldn't touch that. She brought out sliced avocado that was very nice. Why we were served that mess in the first place is a mystery. This is our second visit to this restaurant and will be our last. There's just too many good restaurants to choose from in Asheville to waste our time and money on this one. Having said that, Omni Grove Park Inn is a beautiful place to visit and we will be back playing it safe with a simple drink at the bar and a nice walk around the property. read more

The New York steak was superb, and the Caesar salad was off the charts. I was living at the Grove Park in and checked in a bit late so I decided to try this place. Another reason I decided to try it was because it was paid for. Trust me, I would never DRIVE to a hotel to eat there. It's never worth it! I was right. It was a cold night but they had these heaters on that were wonderful! I wish I had them at home! Anyway I started with the crab cake. It had julienned cabbage and I think Red pepper on it. Was a tiny crab cake but tasted pretty good. There was some great in the sauce it sat on that I really liked. However it was not worth $18!!!! I then had the chicken breast which was just ok. It was portioned in two to make it easier to eat and the part that had the skin on tasted fine. Was a bit dry. The other half that had no skin was terribly dry and bland! It did come with collard greens and stuffing that was decent. Oh yes and the biscuits were pretty good with the honey and butter. Would I eat here again? NOPE! The view is beautiful but that's it. I did enjoy the view and the ambience, but the food was way overpriced and taste terrible. Don't come here expecting good food, that would be my suggestion. My tofu dish had so much salt that I just couldn't eat it. Steak tartare was okay though. The waitresses was nice enough to take the tofu off the bill. In general, the service is not bad-just slow.
