I had the Pad Thai when the truck was at Sunset Beach. It's a fast food-style pad thai with a very sweet (but also tangy and flavourful) sauce, but that's what I expected and wanted, and I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't too oily and had the right balance between noodles, protein, and sprouts. They had a pretty impressive condiment stand that included pickled chilies, chopped peanuts, chopped cashews, sriracha, and chili flakes. Although they're not a traditional topping for pad thai, I added the pickled chilies to mine and that was delicious. The pad thai costs $15 (regardless of what protein you get), which is pretty typical. Even though I got it without any added protein besides the tofu and egg, I didn't feel shorted on quantity. I was pretty hungry and this satiated me. One star off mainly because they had a really limited menu when I was there - just the chicken pad thai and one other chicken curry. Super Thai food truck is usually downtown, but they planned to park amongst office buildings in Burnaby last week so I gave them a chance. When it comes to Thai food, pad Thai is the measuring stick to judge all kitchens by. So of course that's what I tried when I visited this food truck for the first time. My order was made fresh and was very flavorful. It was more spicy than sweet. In fact I've never had spicy pad Thai anywhere so this was unexpected. For my average palate it was too much heat so I didn't enjoy it fully. I also found the portion size lacking. For $10 it could have been more filling. After all, rice noodles are dirt cheap. I've been to this truck twice; once when it was parked on Granville Island during a festival last summer, and once just today at the Food Truck Festival (Georgia steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery). I have noticed the quality has gone down - lithe noodles that were balanced in seasoning now are an oily oversauced, oversweetened mess. Tofu and chicken were overcooked. I gave this place a try last week when they were parked outside 33 Acres, and we were picking up a growler to go. We tried the Thai Chicken Salad and the Pad See Ew. Of the two dishes, the Pad See Ew was definitely better. I'd order it again - the noodles had good texture, it was very tasty, and I liked how they packed in a little pouch of hot chili flakes into the box. If I was rating on the Pad See Ew alone, this would be a 3.5 star review. However... my experience with the salad really brings it down a couple notches. The flavours in the salad weren't bad, but it was just so watery that it actually leaked through the paper box, through the paper bag that they gave us to carry them in, ended up breaking the bag, and both boxes of food ended up falling onto the ground in our parking lot just as we were getting home. Luckily most of the food stayed inside the boxes, but there was some leaky clean-up to deal with, which was annoying. The Pad See Ew was promising enough though, that if I was in the neighbourhood again, I'd try a couple other dishes to see if they can redeem the salad fiasco. read more

The pad thai here is pretty tasty, although they use a noodle type that tends to stick together and break off into smaller pieces. However my biggest gripe is with their inconsistent portioning. I watched a person in front of me get a lone pad thai that was heaping in size but when I ordered, it was coincidentally with a number of other people who also ordered pad thai. All of the portions when she split it were super tiny, basically a half portion. The amount of noodles in my box was the same size as my closed fist. It seems whenever the lady batches a pad thai order and splits it, she cannot portion out properly and ends up serving everyone tiny portions. This is not the first time this has happened to me and my coworker. I really just wish there were more noodles. This size was definitely not worth $10. Edit: Disappointing to see the owner so unable to take criticism. Instead of taking the time to think of ways you could improve your portioning consistency (e.g. perhaps pre-prepared portions) you blamed me for not asking for more noodles and for possibly having bias from being "just really hungry". You could have offered the suggestion of asking for more noodles next time as a solution but it was presented combatively and paired with the Subway comment. If your conclusion is to tell me to take my business elsewhere then good luck to you and your food truck, you'll need it. read more

I was a fan of this place for quite a while. It's parked outside my work so I went almost every week. I've had the pad thai at least 10 times. The first time I ordered the pad thai, I asked if they had peanuts in the Pad Thai because I'm allergic. The lady said they don't add any so after my first order, I never asked about the peanuts again. They have ground peanuts and chili powder beside the utensils so that customers can add it to their own food so I figured they never cook with peanuts. I continued to order the pad thai and it was fine for over half a year until my recent experience. I ordered the pad thai per usual. I brought the food back to work to eat. After several bites I noticed some crunchy bits amongst my noodles. To be safe, I decided to throw away the rest of my lunch and good thing I did! Since the nuts were cooked with the noodles and my allergies are predominantly for raw peanuts, I didn't notice it immediately but the effects kicked in soon after. I understand that it is a restaurant/food truck's prerogative to have nuts in their menu and I do not expect any establishment to omit them; however, nut allergies are very common and if there's any changes to your cooking methods, it should be clearly marked and/or communicated. I had the same item from your truck almost every time I ordered so I don't understand why the sudden need to add peanuts. I can't imagine if this happened to someone with anaphylaxis!!! I can't eat at an establishment that doesn't consider allergies and will randomly add peanuts to dishes. I won't be eating here again. read more

You could be dressed in orange, have Christmas lights wrapped around your entire body while fanning the flames of a bonfire to make smoke signals, and these people still would not notice you standing there trying to get an order in. I spent 15 minutes waiting patiently in line, only for them to start taking orders from people who just walked up randomly. Naturally everyone in the line, myself included, took a bit of an exception to that. The lady that was taking orders then rushed to get everybody in line, completely skipping me and taking the orders of 5 or 6 other people who I was ahead of. Needless to say, not a great experience. Super Thai food is quickly supplanting many actual restaurants as my favourite thai food in the city. It's not the absolutely best thai I've ever had, but for the money its as good as it gets. Having travelled a bit in Thailand their food is about as close to authentic Thai street food as I've found in Vancouver. The curries especially are delicious and reasonably priced and the thai lady who does the cooking is super friendly. I only wish they we're in my office's neighbourhood more often. Also there is almost no noodles, literally less than your normal half portion from other places. it's been this way the past few times I ordered from them.
