It's a happy combination of Mexican favorites and international goods that are readily found all over the 626. Fruits, vegetables, chiles, and spices are some of the best deals I've seen. A large parking lot accommodates most as well as the the updated set up allows a for a constant flow of frequenters, moms, and party boys looking to stock up on food and drinks. Prices here are good! They always have red tag specials and you do get some savings along the way. We went there yesterday Sunday, there was a really long line and with only 1 cashier! The manager or supervisor keeps on calling for back up (nobody cane) and a guy who also works there, keeps on asking the already very busy lone cashier where the other cashiers are! Trying, because FRANK the cashier just left without apologizing for having to step away. He took a while coming back finally, he came back and was talking to two female employees, who were not on registers (perhaps on breaks?). This market is located near a ton of thrift stores. I love it. Place is fairly clean, great deals every week. It can get really busy the lines can get long, because they only open up about 3 cashiers when there's like 8 registers. The veggies are always fresh, and expect nothing less. I have tried for years to make tamales from scratch and countless recipes, with varying degrees of success, mostly bad. Then tried several stores known for their prepared masa with little or no luck either. In desperation I researched the internet to find the best prepared masa for tamales and discovered Superior Grocers was considered the best source. I made tamales today with their masa, and what a great surprise. Without a doubt this is the finest prepared masa I've ever had. They came out nice and fluffy, absolute perfection. Great masa is truly the most important ingredient to making awesome tamales. Frankly I had almost given up, and it's way too much trouble to go through to only have so so results. With their masa I will never hesitate to make tamales again. What a real pleasure it is to succeed, thanks to Superior Grocers. I hope they never stop making their masa. This grocery store is clean enough and has most of the things I am looking for, but overall it's not where I go to get the majority of my shopping done. They do not carry a lot of the products that I personally buy but then they also carry some things (fresh tortillas) that I can't get most other places. I tend to go here as a supplement to another shopping trip depending on what their weekly ad contains. Sometimes you can find GREAT deals on things but at other times they are similarly priced to Ralphs or Albertsons. read more

My mom a senior Citizen, went to the store yesterday July 29,2020 @9:30am. She bought a total of $22.75 worth of vegetables and fruits. She asked the cashier for her receipt but the cashier told her the machine run out of paper. They've really changed things up in the last few months. A much needed makeover has hit this store, and it's much better than it was previously. As always, their bakery and tortillas/chips are delicious. Great place to get a deal on common Hispanic produce (beans/tomatoes/cilantro/peppers...) are usually cheaper here than other places. Decent place for seafood items, as well as cheese/crema. Liquor is cheaper than most other places. The best thing has been the self-serve dispensers around the back wall. They remind me of the ones at Whole Foods, at a fraction of the cost. read more

I don't come here very often because it's a bit out of the way. It's a good place to stop and pick up cereal (they have decent prices) and produce. The produce is affordable, but keep in mind the fruits can be small, a day or so away from being ripe, or already ripe. I came today and picked up 6 pears, 8 oranges, 7 apples, 1 cantaloupe, 1 bottle of wine, and 1 bottle of coconut water (with pulp) for $7.00. They also have what Albertson's and Vons called "Cinderella Pumpkins" for $1 per 3 lbs. The ones at Vons and Albertons were $10. So you get the same size pumpkin here for $2. The place is generally clean. It's usually bustling. And there's often someone selling agua fresca and churros as you walk out. The produce at this place makes me happy, cheap ass tightwad that I am. Serrano peppers were $0.49 a pound today, and pineapples were two for a dollar. Pretty good quality too. Sure it might not be so organized, it's cheap and you can find some hard to find stuff. The bakery is great. I'm a fan of their ginger-pigs, and really, the ginger-pig is THE test of a good panaderia. The tortillas are also top notch. The meat counter is kind of lacking, but they do carry aged longaniza, which I'm partial to. Prices are always more then reasonable store wide, specially since they carry A LOT of generic brands (if you want to find where the good deals are, follow the Mexicans). The store has done measures to improve itself vastly. All locations from Covina to Los Angeles have added in an area that dispenses everything from flour, strawberry granola, vegetable chips, chocolate covered almonds, sweet peanuts, and my favorite indulgence lemon chili corn nuts! They have also incorporated a bigger and much more organized alcohol selection. This is one of the only places I can find a 24 pack of Reds Apple Beer. Not only have they re-vamped the place, but it is also the best deal for produce. The cheapest in the city, however make sure you use their produce within a week for freshness. I love the deli, some of the most expensive Queso Fresco but best tasting yet. If there is a cut of meat you want fresh you can go to the deli and the butcher will do his best to honor your request. Tip* Take someone who speaks Spanish if you are going to talk to the butcher. This place also has the best bakery selection. Always fresh! We sometimes wait if we see them staking a new pallet of bolio breads that have just come out of the oven. They are so-so delicious, especially at 4 for a $1.00. The jalapeno cream cheese roll is just the best breakfast a girl could want. The cakes on display are always unique fresh and much cheaper than Vons or Stater. The snacks are however a little pricey. You will see better prices and variety at Walmart for chips, soda, and other bad things we like to eat. Which is better for me not to buy when I shop. I was a little disappointed however, since they added a healthy selection of dispensers that they have not incorporated fat-free or low-fat items. Which is my reason for the four star rating. We frequent this market every two weeks, the service is always great. However, there have been a few occasions the line has been pretty long to check-out. I do not like the fact that their prices are not low as they claim & customers must bag their grocery's fruit is left to spoil and fresh ones are added to the top and put on sale. I had purchased meat ( the skin was flapped over to make it look like thighs when in fact they were the back ends) that had been wrongfully labeled as turkey thighs, I took it back and the store Mgr. returned my money. And last weekend I purchased Mahi Mahi fish piece's was given all fat pieces from the bottom of the plate displays, I had asked if he would give me the top pieces. This time I took pics and will return the fish. Customer service is bad. the employees at this store when you ask for help they speak Spanish to you and never seem to know what you are asking for or where it is. I love coming to this store for great deals! The prices are great, and the produce is always fresh! I didn't give the store a five for two reasons, reason 1, there aren't enough cashiers opening lines, which tends to make the lines really long for the couple of lines that are open. 2cd, there's a cashier named Michelle, who is just the meanest person there. Don't ask her question, she'll just ignore you, she's got horrible customer service skills and I don't think she should be working at super market like this considering how many people are constantly stealing foot into the store everyday. read more
