For a family of four, it's reasonably priced at around $60-$70, and we typically spend under an hour there (the bench seating, and metal chairs isn't the most comfortable for longer stays). In person Scammers?? Came here today after an optometrist appointment, that's next door, for a light lunch before returning home. I live in the neighborhood and usually order online. Now keep in mind, it's EARLY. Like l, 10:45 am. I order a salad and a shrimp tempura roll. I am one person, after all. As I'm eating, the server came and says - "would you like to try ___." I didn't know if she said teriyaki, but I thought she maybe said bring my salad out with my rolls. Finally I settled on "warm saki" the accent was very thick but her eagerness to say "try" made me think she was offering me a sample of some sort or the things I ordered. These weird smelling balls come out. Apparently it's octopus balls? I now realize she's probably gonna charge me. Ok. I taste it. It's nasty. She comes BACK and asks "would you like to try miso soup"? It then becomes obvious that this is just an upsell scam manipulating the communication barrier. When the bill comes, I note I didn't actually ask for the appetizer. She says she gave me 10% off. Ok, $1 off an appetizer I didn't want or ask for. I'm out 9 dollars. A deal I guess. She says I don't have to leave a tip, I leave one anyway and tell her I don't need a box, she then asks "are you sure you don't want a box." This person is pushy and won't take NO for an answer. I visited sushi 101 on a breezy and sunny Thursday. I initially sat outside and ordered some green tea, but soon found it too cold. Our server was very accommodating and simply moved our service inside without a thought. She was also extremely attentive and polite throughout our visit. The location is adorned smartly and minimally with pleasant and unobtrusive music - a great place to spend an afternoon. I had the sushi and roll box with a spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll was made well, and it complemented the salad in the bento box well. But the star was the spring rolls, which were crispy yet tender and had a fantastic umami flavor. I also tried my dining mate's lemon flush roll, which was not to my taste but was clearly made with a lot of love and was something I hadn't tried before. The restaurant is dimly lit. It's an ok place to have dinner but not nice enough to have a casual date. The staff was polite. The takoyaki was really good, so I was hopeful for the sushi. Unfortunately the lemon flush roll was not good. The scallop was cooked but I probably should have asked. The biggest offender was the sushi rice. The interior is very aesthetic, channeling outdoor seating Japanese food spots. The service was only this one lady who was very friendly. I ordered the Unagi Roll and Chicken Katsu Bowl The unagi bowl was standard in a good way. Slightly pricier than what I'm used to. Unagi sauce was tasty, slightly more liquid than I prefer. The chicken katsu bowl is where I felt displeased the most. Coming with chicken katsu, rice, and salad, the bowl felt fairly cheap. The salad had no dressing, the rice did not feel fresh, and the chicken katsu was the thinnest cutlet I've ever eaten (picture attached). The only difference between the bowl and the plate besides the $2 extra is the 2 california rolls they give, which is definitely not worth. Overall, 3.5/10. Of all the sushi places nearby, please choose another spot. I just ordered $50 worth of sushi and for some reason my Sunshine roll looked like someone had picked the avocados off of it. I called them to ask what happened (like did the driver just pick it off while delivering it??) and the lady on the phone first was silent and not responding and after I kept saying hello, she gaslit me and didn't even try to understand the situation. Aside from the horrible customer service, the potato nuggets were soggy, tasted old, and they added eel eel sauce and spicy Mayo on it which tasted cheap. We had a side of spicy mayo and it was the blandest spicy mayo I've ever tried, and trust me I've had bad sushi. The California roll was distasteful. The egg rolls in the bento box tastes like they were frozen and heated up. Everything is overpriced for the poor quality.
