My kids always get the Zen udon and/or avocado rolls, and I always get the salmon teriyaki bento box. Sometimes I can get my younger kid to eat some of that salmon and teriyaki sauce with rice. Omega-3 and all that, you know. Anyways, they love this place. We used to eat there, but ever since the pandemic my kids have preferred to have me fetch the food and then they eat it at home. Came after many years, and I was not disappointed. I would eat here a lot when they first opened, but moved out of the area for a little bit. I decided to come by on a Friday around 2pm. There was one guy at the bar waiting for food, but empty besides that. However, they were stacked with take out orders. Despite being 1 of 2 people in the restaurant, they took a little while to get to me and seat me. The food made up for it. The crispy rice with spicy tuna is HUGE! Enough that I was full from it!! I got the crispy sesame chicken appetizer which was another HUGE portion! It was on the sweeter side, but I was so full from the crispy rice that I couldn't even make a dent. The prices are way too high for the quality of the food. Ordered the Chirasi bowl & many pieces were frozen. Didn't feel well after but not as bad as some other people had posted. They need to either raise the quality of the food or cut prices( The prices here are similar to Izakaya) The portions are pretty tiny as well & the rolls fall apart. I live a few blocks away and my girlfriend and I have been wanting to try them for a while. And finally came in Sunday night. Their parking situation was confusing and a pain in the butt. The elevator didn't work so you had to walk around have to block practically to find the restaurant. But what ever huh? Once and it was so empty I had asked the waitress if they were even open because for it being dinnertime I was surprised to find them as empty as they were. Service was pretty nice and on top of things. We ordered a couple of rolls and a couple of starters. The sushi was good. Just not as hot as I prefer it to be. I had to return the wings because they were undercooked which of course was nasty. The food was good enough for me to come back and try again. This time now I know to ask for my baked rolls to be more hot. I'll be willing to give them another try and hopefully maybe pump them up to a fifth star. But for now four is what they get. If you're in the neighborhood I guess you can give them a try. They're not the best but definitely not the worst. read more

The atmosphere is really nice...Sushi 101 has a warm, cozy ambience. Service is very prompt and they are well staffed. I had the cucumber roll with crab, salmon, tuna and ponzu sauce. The roll was excellent and delicious. The flavor combination worked well for me. For Nigiri, I had the Albacore and Yellowtail. They were very fresh, tasty and nice sized portions. The prices here are reasonable for high quality sushi, service and location in Beverly Hills between Wilshire and Olympic on Robertson. I always see Sushi 101 on Robertson on my way to see the family. I just ordered their chirashi bowl for the first time and - wow wow wee wow. The fish was simply impeccable - and at 8:00PM! In deference to the chef, I refused to use any soy sauce, and was rewarded with the splendor of salivating albacore, succulent tuna, moist salmon, and tangy snapper. Oh and the shrimp was a delight. Lest I forget actual sushi rice that was served to me. My only gripe - and it is a subjectively non-trivial one - is the heaping portion of Vermicelli. I'll simply ask to substitute for more rice next time. (The joy in finally finding my chirashi spot so close to home!) read more

Great sushi spot by our place! Fast service, good food and average prices. Can't beat that when you're looking to have something quick and good. They are really nice here and you never have to wait. There's no parking but I've never had a hard time finding street parking. I've gotten the mountain roll that comes with crab, salmon and topped with spicy tuna. Definitely my go-to! I have been coming here for a while now. I am always open to trying new sushi spots but when in the mood for sushi and not in the mood to explore ( because sometimes you just want to go) then this spot here is my #1 option. This place has plenty of sushi options and their food always tastes great. I am big on baked sushi rolls and their Volcano roll is my favorite. The baked salmon is also very tasty. The location is great, located on a main street and no having to search for street parking, although that is an option, they have parking which is a bit hard to find in back of the building by the alley but its secure and clean. The staff here is also great, always very friendly and very helpful. Ironically most of the time I come here it is not very packed, maybe just coming at their "non busy" times but it could be people just dont know how good this place is. Sushi 101 is a good introductory course into sushi and Japanese food for the uninitiated. It's a quirky spot on Robertson that has some funny tributes to the Simpsons for all you fans out there. Their lunch specials are a great deal but on this night we had dinner as they were one of the only places open on New Year's Day. We had the chirashi bowl (around $13), the sunset roll (salmon, tuna, avocado for $12) and the tonkatsu ramen ($8.50). The fish here was better than expected especially in the chirashi bowl. You get a varied selection of fish and I liked they include garlic crisps for a nice texture change. For these affordable prices all the fish had a good flavor to them which is hit or miss at other affordable sushi places. I also really liked how they provided a sample of their spicy mango salad they use in their ceviche. It was really good and almost melted our mouths in a good way. If you need an intro lesson to sushi, you can't go wrong with Sushi 101. read more

This review is long overdue. My boyfriend and I frequent this place since it's the closest sushi place to us. I love sushi so I can say that I've tried a lot of places from high end sushi restaurants to Japan's fish market. For the fish that I have tried at this restaurant, I can say after several visit that the fish always tastes fresh and the quality is consistent. I would have to say that non-sushi type items though are decent but the sushi and rolls here are what stands out and that's what I would recommend. The place appears to be family run and they're super nice. They have absolutely no issues with people modifying their rolls (which may come with a change in price depending on what you do). I would say the only downside right now is the fact that this place doesn't currently serve alcohol but I hear that will change soon since they've applied for their alcohol license (which is why I kept the 5 star rating). Overall, I have to say that for the price and location, the sushi here is great! read more

Every once in a while, my office orders from this place. I don't know why, as nobody ever seems to be happy when we do. Lunch was over an hour late today, which obviously affects our schedule quite a bit. On top of that, I'm allergic to sesame seeds (messes my stomach up for a full day usually), so unfortunately my lunch is once again completely inedible. This happens every. Single. Time. Look at the attached photo. This is a crazy (extra?) amount of seeds, and you can even see the note that THEY TYPED saying "no seeds." This level of not caring is inexcusable, especially when it comes to food allergies. Usually I try to pick around it and test my luck, but this time it doesn't seem doable. So it's another lunch in the trash from Sushi 101. So good luck getting your food as ordered. Even if you do, it's pretty mediocre. There are plenty of other sushi options around them, and I highly recommend looking into them. If you have good allergies, AVOID. read more
