I don't know where to begin with sushi 21. I'll start by stating, sushi 21 is my favorite all you can eat spot in Vegas. Especially since they're open late and I can come by right after I get off work (midnight). The price is great for ayce and all the options they have to offer. Food is always always great and delivered quickly. The vibes are great at night. The dark lighting, the colored lights, the dj playing great music (on a projector on a wall on YouTube. Still great vibes!) mix it with a little hot sake and you'll feel like you're in a dreamy reality where the clouds are moving. (Literally I thought the cloud lights were moving after a couple shots of sake). I always have the pleasure of having Carlos as my sushi chef & the manager,whose name I never got, as my server. Located just a few minutes south of Chinatown is Sushi 21. I visited with a friend who recommended this place when a spot in Chinatown had a long wait, this place had no wait and we were immediately seated which was very pleasing. After being seated though, unfortunately the service just sort of went downhill. There seemed to be only one server working at night and they were getting slammed with to-gos. It became pretty bad to the point where we weren't spoken to or greeted for at least 10 mins and our server almost never came to check up on us. We were ready to get dessert and pay at the end for such a long time, one of the sushi chefs noticed us waiting and basically ended up taking care of us towards the end. He was great. I truly hope the tips are shared with the kitchen here because our server wasn't much help. The food itself is okay, fish is decent quality but all of the sushi and nigiri was basically falling apart. Not a single roll stayed together and we were more or less shoveling the loose sushi in our mouths with our hands. The wonton soup is weird as it's a fried wonton put in a soup to make soggy. Disappointing wonton soup that we didn't even eat! After ordering several items we also asked for small soup. Instead we got the whole huge bowl of hot water with soggy fried wontons in it!?! One of our fav sushi spots ended up closing down so we figured let's give this place a try since a little further up the street. We were here for dinner on a normal Wednesday evening....which explains the reason why it was completely empty inside. We were the only paying customers as I think the other occupied table were the Gen-Z employees' friends. Ambiance is weird. Restaurant was dark with strobe lights lighting and cloud shaped overhead lights. Music was EDM/pop mix. Felt like a seedy bar in LA's Chinatown. Wasn't expecting to eat my sushi in the dark. Ordered two different a la carte sushi rolls...which was not that good either. Originally ordered a spicy tuna roll but our little Gen-Z worker brought out a Screaming O Salad instead. Sigh...why is it so difficult to get good service nowadays? Also got an ordered of Bulgogi and there were more sauteed onions than bulgogi itself!!!! If I didn't know better, I would've thought this was a plate of sauteed onions instead of bulgogi! Disappointing there were barely any pieces of meat. We felt ripped-off! This will be my first and last time coming to this establishment. So far it was going pretty well and after 30 mins it went down hill. There was this gentleman and this very young lady who has pink hair (who was amazing at providing customer service) who was working that night and he was being very rude to her correcting her and telling her what to do taking plates that she already had in her hands. Then he proceeded to talk about her to his coworkers infront of other customers. That's what made me lose my appetite! Instead of being rude to your employees and talking about them behind their backs telling your coworkers she is slow and that you don't like her. TRAIN THEM THE RIGHT WAY. If he is the manager I truly think he needs to be retrained as a manager because this is not how you treat anyone else an employee. He truly was lucky that I did not make a scene and instead i ended my meal and left. I truly would like my money back as I had the worst experience here. I have frequented this place since 2021 (my last review) and put up with the awful music and freezing temperature but the other night I went there for TAKE OUT and that finished me for this place! First off, the place was EMPTY on a SATURDAY NIGHT, so I guess they either changed owners or the place got so bad, they lost customers. I ordered 2 salmon avocado rolls with salmon belly. There was a $3 extra charge for the salmon "Belly" which was fine with me. I also ordered an udon bowl and miso soup. The charge was $43 so I opted out of one of the rolls. Charge was $28. I don't mind if the food is good. Well the roll I ordered turned out to be filled with fake crab meat, no avocado and a few slithers of salmon belly on top. REALLY?? The udon was salty with udon and one slice of some "chicken" kind of meat floating in this salty broth. It was awful. I was going to return but it was late and I just won't go there anymore. Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024. I was in the mood for a salmon roll. Pretty simple really. I live one and a half miles away so I swung in here and ordered my role to go. When I got home and opened the box, it looked strange. Everybody knows what a salmon roll. Looks like a big chunk of salmon wrapped in rice with some seaweed. I have never had a roll, either salmon or tuna like this. After eating my first piece and last piece that I will ever buy from there, I had to dissect it.. it was soft and mushy, and after dissecting it, I realized that it was a Frankenfish. They had kept all the trimmings that you would normally put into a seafood salad I suppose, and stuffed them into disgusting example. The whole kitchen staff has now left the building with only a server and someone that look like his mother hanging around. It was very uncomfortable and then at 2:15 he basically turned off most of the lights while we were still in the middle of eating food and we just got up and left.! Never coming here again or recommending this place to anybody! They literally close their doors at 2 AM when they're supposed to be open till 3am. I like this place a lot there's a great atmosphere when you come at night. my server was jin, and the rest of the staff overall were nice and on point! usually I'm a nigiri person but their rolls especially their special rolls were a definite highlight for my dinner.
