Especially since they're open late and I can come by right after I get off work (midnight). The price is great for ayce and all the options they have to offer. Food is always always great and delivered quickly. The vibes are great at night. The dark lighting, the colored lights, the dj playing great music (on a projector on a wall on YouTube. Still great vibes!) mix it with a little hot sake and you'll feel like you're in a dreamy reality where the clouds are moving. Located just a few minutes south of Chinatown is Sushi 21. I visited with a friend who recommended this place when a spot in Chinatown had a long wait, this place had no wait and we were immediately seated which was very pleasing. After being seated though, unfortunately the service just sort of went downhill. There seemed to be only one server working at night and they were getting slammed with to-gos. It became pretty bad to the point where we weren't spoken to or greeted for at least 10 mins and our server almost never came to check up on us. We were ready to get dessert and pay at the end for such a long time, one of the sushi chefs noticed us waiting and basically ended up taking care of us towards the end. He was great. I truly hope the tips are shared with the kitchen here because our server wasn't much help. The food itself is okay, fish is decent quality but all of the sushi and nigiri was basically falling apart. Not a single roll stayed together and we were more or less shoveling the loose sushi in our mouths with our hands. The wonton soup is weird as it's a fried wonton put in a soup to make soggy. I've been a loyal customer of this sushi restaurant for a long time, both dining in and through DoorDash. Unfortunately, my interaction tonight with the manager, Jin, was so unprofessional that it deserves a public warning. I called about substituting salmon for smoked salmon to a Philadelphia roll--something I literally ordered last week through DoorDash with no extra charge. I've ordered this same modification many times in person as well. This time, Jin told me it would be an extra $1. When I asked why the sudden change, he spoke to me in a condescending tone, telling me to "calm down" even though I was completely calm and simply asking a question. Being gaslit and penny-pinched over something that has never been an issue before is unacceptable. Instead of providing clarity or customer service, Jin explained that the owner is "stressed about rising food costs," as if that excuses inconsistent pricing or disrespectful communication. This is the same manager who previously made a point to tell me and my husband that we "can't share plates" when I was doing all-you-can-eat and he was ordering à la carte--another unnecessary and uncomfortable interaction that left a bad taste. I have frequented this place since 2021 (my last review) and put up with the awful music and freezing temperature but the other night I went there for TAKE OUT and that finished me for this place! Went in to eat after work with my coworkers at 1:20am they don't close till 3am. There was one other customer that was eating.. They seemed annoyed that we came in. The service was not great because the minute we sat down, they basically told us we only had 15 minutes to order all you can eat. So we ordered when the sushi came out. It was literally just falling apart then in the middle of us eating, they asked for us to pay the bill because they were closing the store now it's only 2 AM. The whole kitchen staff has now left the building with only a server and someone that look like his mother hanging around. It was very uncomfortable and then at 2:15 he basically turned off most of the lights while we were still in the middle of eating food and we just got up and left.! Never coming here again or recommending this place to anybody! They literally close their doors at 2 AM when they're supposed to be open till 3am. Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024. I was in the mood for a salmon roll. Pretty simple really. I live one and a half miles away so I swung in here and ordered my role to go. When I got home and opened the box, it looked strange. Everybody knows what a salmon roll. Looks like a big chunk of salmon wrapped in rice with some seaweed. I have never had a roll, either salmon or tuna like this. After eating my first piece and last piece that I will ever buy from there, I had to dissect it.. it was soft and mushy, and after dissecting it, I realized that it was a Frankenfish. They had kept all the trimmings that you would normally put into a seafood salad I suppose, and stuffed them into disgusting example. Pretty good spot for sushi! I used to come here a lot when I worked nights and they were open late. They have a great variety of rolls and the staff is always friendly. If you have ever been to sushi cruise, this was similar (maybe even the same family). Unfortunately sushi cruise closed its door, but this place did not.
