Taking my daughter out for her birthday dinner! Her choice we went to Sushi AI in downtown on Olive. Not too crowded when enter lobby. I ordered hot sake for drink. It was good and warm, just right. And ordered Philadelphia rolls. It's was good. I like red snapper rolls the best. Love wasabi and soy sauce that goes with sushi. Had waiter who's Japanese. This is just not the place where I would go to eat sushi. I understand it is downtown St Louis, not NY or LA, but rainbow roll and nigiri deluxe didn't taste right. Well, you all know by now that I am a lover of the sush. It's my jam, always will be. As I sit here typing now, my belly is full of it... I see sushi... we'll be trying it. Stopped in one blustery cold night while staying in STL. Very impressed with the size of this restaurant that was PACKED FULL. There was actually a waiting list to get a table, we decided to suffer a wait. Glad we did for the most part. The sushi was good... a bit non-traditional... I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my Spicy Salmon and this one had a different tang to it. The sushi was fresh enough... nothing I'd comment negatively on but also won't rave that it was the best ever. Drinks were fine. Partner had a beer. I had a couple glasses of mediocre wine. Can't say I'd ever go back for the wine but eh... ...this wasn't my favorite sushi restaurant ever. Heck, doesn't even make the top #25 I've ever had but their presentation was nice, prices fair, staff polite and friendly and the place was HOPPING! I do not normally write reviews and I originally was not going to write anything, but had an experience that left a bad taste in my mouth. Food was fine, service overall was fine. I found a large piece of glass in my spicy tuna sushi. I was lucky not to have gotten cut or swallowed the piece of glass. At first, someone came up and apologized and told me my meal was comped. I've worked in food industry and understand crazy things can happen. When it came time for the bill, they charged me for a 99 cent green tea ice cream plus tax for a total of $1.10 because that was not part of the all you can eat option. That was ridiculous. Can't believe they felt the need to charge me that after giving me food with glass in it and telling me my meal was comped. It definitely cost them a customer. In my opinion, Sushi AI makes some of the best Japanese food in STL. And while I enjoyed eating there in-person, I've mostly ordered online, but I've been very impressed with that alone. They get your order ready super fast, but don't get it twisted, they still don't sacrifice quality! They also have the best packaging compared to other Japanese places. Most places usually put it in a styrofoam takeout box, but Sushi AI uses a plastic container that actually seals, meaning the sauce doesn't splash all over the place!!! I've noticed that there's a lot of Japanese places in STL that are inconsistent with the quality of their food, particularly their chicken teriyaki. Sushi AI ALWAYS has amazing chicken teriyaki, and the presentation in-person is beautiful. Everybody I've introduced to this restaurant LOVES it. The service is amazing, they seat you very fast and they're just generally very kind and upbeat. The waitress was very friendly and ended up convincing my dad to try a sake bomb since he'd never heard of one. She showed us how to do it and the entire table ended up having a blast! read more

My DD suggested this place after going with a friend. She is obsessed with fried oreos, and after calling around to all of the other Sushi Ai's in the STL metro area, I discovered that only this downtown location has the fried oreos. So downtown we went. On the all-you-can-eat, you get to choose from appetizers, sushi, and rolls. You mark a check or number by each item that you'd like. If you want 4 fried oreos, mark 4 by that menu item, and so on. Just remember that you must eat EVERYTHING on your plate or you'll have to pay extra.(We've never had that problem.) APPETIZERS - The spring rolls, tempura veggies, and fried oreos (basically tempura oreos) are all vegan-friendly, or so I'm told. All yummy! SUSHI - The 2 vegan sushi items are Tofu Skin and Avocado Sushi. Both ok. ROLLS - My 3 vegan-friendly go to rolls have been the Avocado, Sweet Potato, and Veggie rolls. The veggie rolls come with avocado, sweet potato, and cucumbers (I omit the latter). The avocado and sweet potato rolls are wrapped in nori but the veggie rolls have rice on the outside. (I know some people have a big preference when it comes to the way they're wrapped.) Surprisingly, the sweet potato rolls quickly became my favs due to the fact that they're tempura battered and fried before stuffed into the roll, so they're nice, warm and crunchy. So good!! We've gone twice on a Sunday, and also during the week. Sundays are great for dining in because it's BOGO 1/2 off for the All You Can Eat, making it $30 instead of $40. If you don't want to gorge on AYCE, for $19.99, you can choose 1 appetizer, a sushi, and 2 rolls. The setup inside kinda reminds me of an old western saloon, remodeled into a Sushi restaurant. Where the bar is in the middle of the floor and the seats and tables are positioned around it. The upstairs features bottomless U seating, where you can sit along the left or right side only and you can see straight down to the bar (sushi station) and main floor. There are restrooms on both floors. The male waiter is nice, attentive, and respectful. I do agree with the reviewer who commented on the female hostess/waitress. DD was just saying how she's surprised she still has a job. I too believe she must be family of the owner. Unprofessional and she has a serious staring problem. I try my best to ignore her. Sushi Ai has delicious options for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. It's downtown, so prepare for street parking. read more

I live just a couple blocks from this Sushi AI and it's our go to dinner spot. You can't beat the prices. The menu is large with lots of options and the space is 2 levels so there's lots of seating. Even on busy weekend nights the wait is minimal and the staff are prompt and polite. I've been there when it's really packed and you can still hear the discussion at your own table so it's never too loud. Shrimp tempura rolls, gyoza appetizer, and the Mai Tai are some of my favorites. Great place! read more

My husband and I have recently tried this place and have ordered a few times over again because we love it so much. Best sushi I've eaten next to my moms cooked sushi. I'm honestly not a fan of anything raw but my husband really liked spicy tuna roll which had raw tuna. My favorites are Japanese roll, Futo Maki Roll, and California Roll. Probably the worst sushi I've had in my life. I've eaten A LOT of sushi from all over the US and have had the pleasure to experience omakase as well. I friggin love sushi of all classes. Literally HyVee sushi is better than this. I should have known when the wine offerings didn't have wine labels only varietals listed and they had all you can eat as an option, shame on me for not walking out the door then. For a place with 4 stars, I was expecting 4 stars. This didn't even meet 2 stars in my book as the service was even slow. Yep! The hype is real I say!!!! Best AYCE sushi in StL at least I think. The staff is simply amazing! Everyone walks around to engage with customers but not to the point where it gets annoying. My table was constantly cleaned of plates and drinks stayed filled. I really dig how they give fist pumps to regulars that come in..lol!!!! So AYCE sushi places often times get the reputation of not using the best quality of fish. Well this spot dispels the saying "Quality over Quantity". For apps I started off with the baked salmon, (do not skip), squid, fresh salad from the salad bar, and miso soup. Then I dove right into the good stuff. Now my eyes can sometime be bigger than my stomach. I started off with a few orders of nigiri rolls including tuna, yellowtail, eel, red snapper. All was very FRESH! I tried a few of their signature rolls (volcano roll*, amazing roll, Stl roll*) needless to say after 2 rounds I was sufficiently full but not in an uncomfortable way.
