This spot was such a great find. We've either moved here pretty recently or spend enough time here that I've been wanting to find a sushi place we could really settle into and come back to often, and this absolutely feels like that kind of place. It has that true hole in the wall, local vibe. They don't even come greet you at the door. You can tell they just expect you to know the drill, sit down, and get comfortable. It's super simple and unpretentious in the best way. The menu has a little bit of everything. We got the bento box, which was really good, and we also tried several of their rice-less sushi rolls. Those were especially impressive. A lot of places offer low-carb or rice-free rolls now, but so often they just end up tasting mostly like vegetables, especially cucumber. Here, though, they were genuinely flavorful and really well done. Everything came out quickly, the food was great, and the prices were incredibly affordable. Honestly, it was surprisingly inexpensive for how good everything was. I would definitely recommend trying the gyoza. That was one of my favorite things we ordered. There was also another sushi roll I really loved. I can't remember the name, but it wasn't the cucumber one, and it was so good. I'd absolutely come back. There's still so much on the menu I want to try, especially more of their rice-less rolls. read more

This was my first time to visit Sushi Box Dallas. It's hidden in the Hillcrest Village Shopping Center between Starbucks and the Starwood Cafe. The restaurant was very clean with a relaxed vibe and a few tables for dining in. As it was a late lunch, I ordered a Sushi Bento Box that included a 4-piece assortment of sushi, 3 pieces of yoga, 4 piece of California Roll, 2 pieces of Shrimp Tempura, a house salad, and miso soup. At the time of my lunch, there was only one person working in the restaurant. The service was still very quick and everything in my Bento Box was fresh and delicious. Sushi Box may not be my go-to for a long relaxed Sushi dinner with family or friends, but it will certainly stay on my list of reasonably-priced, quick Sushi meals. read more

I was looking for tasty sushi at a reasonable price, and this is the place! Sushi Box has some of the cheapest prices I've found, and the quality is not compromised! The sushi was absolutely DELICIOUS! I got an 8-piece Rainbow Roll for just around $11 (unbelievable) and a Salmon Roll with added avocado for $2. Had been craving sushi and decided to check this place out as it is in the neighborhood. Had initially planned to sit in and eat but saw reviews saying the place was quite small and more suitable for takeout. Now I normally wouldn't do sushi takeout as I have had bad experiences with it before where the rolls are not rolled properly and it's a bit of a mess. However I saw pics thanks to Yelp and decided to give it a go. This is a no frills sushi spot, definitely agree that it's better for takeout than dine-in. The inside has only a few tables and is a very basic place, but the counter staff was friendly and the sushi to go was packaged nicely and rolls in tact. I ordered the Tiger roll and the Geisha Roll. Both were delicious, the Tiger had a little kick to it because of the jalapeños. The sushi tasted fresh and the rolls were a nice size. For being a sushi place, I also have to commend them for the pricing, because it's very affordable for sushi, most rolls are $11.50-13.50 which is unheard of at most places. ORDER Salmon Tower - The salmon tower was pretty good. I liked how they topped it with fish eggs. The salmon was fresh. I will say they gave a pretty sizable amount of crab meat which took away from the good salmon flavor. I also wish they had a bit more sauce to go with all the rice and the crab. Other than that was definitely a dish I enjoyed and would recommend. Bento Box - My friend ordered the bento box and it came with miso soup. He said the miso soup was a 5/10 since it was pretty bland and did not taste like much. The tempura has also remained the same as previously where it tastes like it was store bought and fried rather than using fresh ingredients. Other than that, the seafood was fresh. Their raw fish tasted yummy without fishiness. I will say that this place is nice for a quick stop to get sushi, but could definitely improve in some areas (it's not bad though!) VIBES Vibes are pretty casual. There are a couple of tables that people can sit down and dine-in. I've seen a lot more people coming in to grab to-go. The place is pretty clean and they are quick to clean the tables. Definitely more of a place for quick eats or casual hangout. SERVICE Food came out pretty fast. This review is for a to-go order. Having never been to Sushi Box before, I decided to test the waters by placing an order for a tuna tower via their website. Being in Far-North Dallas, somehow I'm blown away I never noticed this place. It's in the Hillcrest Village Shopping Center. There's ample parking and it's located on the ground level of the outdoor strip center. I placed the order online, and it was very easy. Totally frictionless and it said my order would be ready in 8 minutes. When I arrived, there were no diners in the establishment even though it was prime-time lunch. The place is small, and had a very casual vibe. It was cute and clean. The girl who handed over the food was really sweet and friendly. When I got home, I was delighted to find the presentation of the tuna tower I ordered was was nice and well-packed. In fact, it was shaped like a heart- so cute!!! Also, I had requested a few mods and they were observed. No avocados or Sirracha. The tuna tower itself was great! The tuna was fresh and the sauces were delish. For less than $12, the value can not be beat! There were also some good crunchy tempura pieces that gave the tower some varied texture. Tried Sushi Box for the first time yesterday! Whenever the bf and I go to a sushi restaurant, we stick to the basic rolls and never order anything crazy (i.e. volcano roll, rainbow roll, etc), but the crunch Philadelphia roll caught my eye (this is their version of Philly roll with tempura puffs - I think that's the topping?) I could have eaten the whole roll myself! I felt guilty while eating it but it was sooo good I also loved the shogun roll, less guilty while eating this one since it's a rice-less, cucumber wrapped roll. Overall, everything we ate was super tasty. I'd definitely go back for those two rolls and try all the other items on the menu. The presentation was A+ too as shown in the pictures! I ordered Shrimp Tempura with rice. They were not that busy, but after awhile of waiting, I stood up from my chair and observed the front person checking the contents of an air fryer and a discussion between the two chefs about the rice. Next, I observed a rounded serving of cold sushi rice being put in the microwave. The front employee proceeded to put the shrimp into the to go container along with the rice she took out of the microwave. The gross part was she used her bare hand to take the rice off the plate and pressed, by bare hand, the rice into the to go container. And the shrimp tempura appeared to have been previously frozen and cooked in an air fryer. Not what I expected. The shrimp tasted ok, but I could have bought a box of frozen shrimp tempura at Costco and heated it in my own air fryer. I expect more from a restaurant. Do it right or take it off the menu. read more

I used to come here a lot for lunch with my teacher friends. That was last year. Since then, the food has gone down a lot and the service is just plain unfriendly. When you order from the counter and they expect a tip, I'll leave a couple dollars but it's a couple dollars...For one lunch. Easy to miss from the outside despite living nearby for 2 years and visiting surrounding restaurants before. Inside is a generic strip mall food service layout with a few nods to Japanese design to go along with the classic sushi ingredient display fridges. Staff was friendly and helpful although it wasn't clear if I was supposed to order before finding a seat. The menu was easy to understand and the prices were reasonable compared with the area. The food was ok, nothing I disliked but also nothing that really stood out to me. Like many local sushi places they go heavy on the artificial crab and light on the actual ingredients that make sushi tasty: the seafood. While I lean towards 3 stars, the helpful staff and good value for the price lift Sushi Box up to a shaky 4 stars. If I could find a favorite roll, this would be a solid 4 but my usuals didn't hit the mark this time. read more

Wanted to give this relatively new Richardson sushi place a chance so went with two of my kids on Fathers Day. No alcohol available to purchase. Had to ask to flip on fountain drink machine. Eel sashimi was an extremely modest portion and average. Eel sushi had bones in it. There was no one else eating in the restaurant when we were there. Food was overall subpar but expensive - $90 w/ tip for 3 - for a "fast casual" restaurant with a threadbare and bare bones ambiance lacking any personality.
