I've been coming here for years! This is my go to sushi place I will say, for what it's worth i'd avoid coming during lunch hours as they are not as attentive. The server was very nice but I was stuck with a huge salad when I asked for a "small, side salad" with no fore warning. :/ I will ofcourse be coming back for dinner! Just not lunch lol read more

Sushi Cafe has two locations, both are great! The Alhambra location is better for larger parties, and waitresses are wonderful. Sushi is as good as Mikuni's, but not as expensive--a little less ambiance, but more than double the value. Nice neighborhood restaurants. More casual. Definitely a hole in the wall gem. My friend and I came here for lunch on a rainy afternoon. The exterior didn't look like much with okay parking situation, but it was pretty busy inside. We're small eaters, so we each ordered a roll. SPD and MVR. Apparently, we were sticking to acronym rolls haha. SPD had spicy tuna, avo, shrimp tempura topped with salmon and their sauce. I think hers was more about tuna. I loved my SPD and if I had the stomach, I would've ordered another one. It was simple, tasty, and filling. This is a nice small restaurant that my family love to support for special occasions. This restaurant is small and can get busy and filled up in a hurry especially during rush hour. They updated their interior about 2 years ago and it looks and feels a lot better. Parking is enough but very tight. Food is good. I usually get the bento boxes. I must say the portion did get smaller. Food came out about 15 minutes but during rush hour I must warn you it can take up anywhere from 40-60 mins for your food. read more

Food is very good but when I have eaten there it has been busy. That is a problem because there is often a delay between the food being prepared and it getting to the table. This not an issue with sushi or other cold dishes but it is a problem with the hot items that cool quickly. An example is the eel hand roll which is heated but cools quickly. Sushi Cafe used to be my family's go-to sushi place when I was growing up in Sac. Unfortunately it was not as great as I remembered it when we recently ordered takeout. I got a vegetarian udon and an extreme roll. Both were pretty unremarkable. The udon broth didn't have a ton of flavor, and the noodles felt like they didn't have much structure, like they had already been sitting in liquid for a long time. The extreme roll was fine. Came here for the tempura since my friend told me its the best in town. The friend was like I love tempura and when I judge a place if its good I try the tempura. . When I came here for the bento box with tempura mix and saba shioyaki. . The tempura batter is amazing. Light and fluffy and for sure good. After the first bite I really love it. And when I did the tip I was amazed how delicious tempura was. I usually don't care for tempura too. But I give it thats the best tempura I have had here. . I can say it is better than the Buddhist church Japanese bazaar on Broadway yearly. This tempura hands down. . Saba shioyaki was fresh and was tasty. . The service was great. My go-to sushi restaurant right outside of Hollywood Park! Sushi Cafe offers a great mix of quality and quantity of their rolls and menu items. Food here is good but the reason I am giving a one star review is the awful customer service. It took about half an hour for them to take our order. Once we got our food one of our did not come until 40 min after we ate because "they forgot about the food". Asked for waiter with no ice and they gave us water with ice. On top of that no refills at all. Once it was time to pay no one dropped our bill we had to walk to the front to pay. I have been in this restaurant 7 times with no issues until the last 2 times. I've had a lot of rolls where the shrimp tempura gets soggy, but for this one, you could tell the roll was freshly made. Double Tuna Roll - my friend ordered this and she liked it. She said the tuna tasted really good. Sashimi Small Mix - 4/5, it came with 3 salmon, 3 tuna, and 2 each of 2 other fish I forgot. The fish tasted pretty fresh and melted in my mouth. There was only one piece I had that was a bit chewy. Taro Fried Ice Cream - 4/5, the ice cream was good! they got it from Gunther's exclusively, as in you can't get it at Gunther's. However, the batter was a bit overwhelming. When I took a bite, it was mostly batter and it made it hard to taste the ice cream. The batter tasted like funnel cake. I have been coming here since 2017 and always look forward to it being a familiar restaurant with an overall quality experience. Tonight we were seated at 6:50pm. One of our orders--ramen--came 20 minutes before the sushi, which only came after we asked about it: at 8:05pm. We had waited 15 minutes before getting chopsticks and napkins, only after asking for them. I never got the rice or miso for my sashimi order. Two tables adjacent to us were served before us, one that was seated at least 30 minutes after us. They finished their meal about the time we were served. Wakame Salad~ They we're out of the Sunomo Salad and I am glad cuz this was a 10 for me!! I loved every bit of that flavorful seaweed salad and it was decently priced at $5.95! Gunther's Green Tea Ice Cream~ The scoop was served in a little wooden box which was unique and not to mention the flavor was on point, yum and just $2.95! I would definitely recommend this location that opened in 2001 by an executive chef! I'll definitely be returning in the near future to try more of their extensive menu! Depending on your diet, they have a lot of healthy options and the staff are both friendly and helpful as well! When I received my bill I was given a Fruit Go Mango Candy for an after dinner treat and it was honestly one of the best candies I have ever had! This has never detracted me from waiting! Recently my wife,son and I came here on Friday night which was also Valentine's Day. Usually we avoid the crowds on Valentine's Day but were too lazy to cook after weeks end. Sushi Cafe does Tempura the best! I always get the Shrimp Tempura App and Veggie Tempura App. I have been to a few places where they use the frozen Costco Shrimp Tempura. That is an automatic red flag if you get served the frozen version. The tempura sauce is perfectly balanced sweet and savory. Some places it is either too salty or too sweet. Usually I order too much and never finish. Today, I was smarter and ordered less. My favorites were the Cafe Temaki Hand Roll and Yum Yum Hand Roll. My wife ordered the MVR Roll which I didnt think was that great. I ordered the SF Giants Roll which was really good. My son ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen which he enjoyed. If you want to ordered something special for a birthday or special occasion order the Fire Dragon Roll.
