Sushi Damu sheeesh this place has some of the most unique sushi rolls I've ever had! The Coconut Shrimp Roll is a perfect example and absolutely delicious. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best sushi spots in Orange County. The ambiance is always great, and they play a versatile mix of music that keeps the atmosphere fun and enjoyable. Even when there's a line and the restaurant is busy, I never feel rushed while dining there. I also have to give a shoutout to their eel -- they have some of the best eel I've had anywhere. Definitely one of my favorite sushi spots, and I'll continue coming back!
I came for the premium $60 ayce includes blue fin tuna and sashimi They have a bunch of things on their menu from nigiri, rolls, appetizers, hot dishes, sashimi, and etc. The blue fin tuna nigiri was pretty good, similar quality to x fish. Salmon and yellowtail was good as well. Service was fast once it got going but it was slow to start. Staff were all friendly and nice. Main concern: when i bit into blue fin tuna sashimi, i felt a thin layer of ice as if the fish hasn't been properly thawed. Big issue since this is one of the main things i came for Regardless, imo this is one of the best ayce in oc in terms of bang for your buck since you can order as many blue fin tuna as you can. This is very similar to x fish, biggest difference is that x fish is $55 and you also get a 12 piece omakase which includes a toro piece. This place is $60 without that. But if you live in the oc area it makes more sense to come here instead of driving further to go to x fish.
The ambiance is gorgeous dark, moody, and they have great food and service. This may be weird to point out but I love the size of their tables haha so spacious. Please note that their fizzy drinks are not from a soda machine but rather a can with ice on the side I didn't mind but just letting you know. Food is absolutely picture perfect and I love the options of the baked sushi. I was able to get dry udon for my baby girl. Ages 0-3 are free and thank goodness because I have twin babies (not so babies) and it gets expensive doing family outings. Im already thinking about my next meal here. Ohh they had the fun bendy straws+ waters for my kiddos which was so cute and my kids loved it.
I am not sure what to say with my review. I decided to come here for lunch mid week and after reading reviews I was unsure what to expect. I will say the sushi was good, the interior is nice and the service was no issue! For $45 (which ends up being $55 after tax and tip) I left stuffed, but I don't think that was good, I was unsure I got my moneys worth and will say the rolls were a bit sloppy, most every sashimi and roll had rice falling out which was not great, very messy and tough to eat. I probably won't return for the price I can probably find a cheaper buffet. But I see the appeal cool interior lots of food!
I eat AYCE sushi once a week. I've been to at least 40 ayce sushi's in Southern California. This place is hands down the best spot I've tried. Fish quality is excellent , and you must try the " Damu Signature Experience". The amount of quality food for the price is way worth it. Ethan and the whole team are in top of the service and suggestions. Music has really good vibes and excellent drinks
Their $60 all-you-can-eat omakase might be one of the best omakases you can get in Orange County. You start off with a refreshing salad, 9 pieces of sashimi including otoro or fatty tuna, that literally melts in your mouth, and a meaty raw oyster that was super fresh. Then a tempura course with a tempura black cod that was my favorite, miso soup, and 7 pieces of premium sushi with even more otoro! $60 for everything before this AND you get access to their regular all-you-can-eat menu! I had to try some of their new yakitori skewers, extra orders of my favorite sushi like salmon carpaccio, and they also have riceless roll options. Oh, and one of the sushi rolls that they light on fire! Dessert is even included, and they're doing their omakase option by reservation only. Thanks for reading! ^-^
Sushi Damu has always been my favorite AYCE sushi spot because of the quality, variety, and usually great service, so this experience was really disappointing. I give Five Stars for the food, but two for the service we received this night. We came in for dinner and placed our first round of orders, and while we received our sides and two rolls, we were still waiting on our nigiri for quite a while. At first, we understood because it seemed busy, but after waiting longer we finally asked about it and were told that our order paper had been lost. If we didn't ask would they have even noticed? By that point, we had already been waiting a long time. We were handed a new order sheet and put in our 1st round order again and not long after that we were then told to put in the rest of our order because last call was soon... They also forgot one of our appetizer orders but at that point it wasn't worth waiting for. I still love the food here, but the service during this visit was frustrating and made the experience feel rushed and overlooked.
It's been a while since I've been here. I've visited once before. I brought my family along with me during this visit to celebrate my mom's birthday. Parking: There's a medium sized parking lot. Finding a spot can be difficult. Since all the spots close to the restaurant were already taken, I parked further in the back. Ambiance/Environment: We visited on a Sunday for an early dinner around 4pm. It was already packed with every table and booth filled. We waited about 18 min to get seated. The tables were somewhat close together. Everything was kept clean. If you're a millennial, you'll appreciate the type of music. Service: We thought the service can improve. 3/5 at most. The host was really nice when he greeted & seated us. If you need assistance, you'd flip the sign to get their attention. It takes a while to grab their attention. The servers weren't as efficient. They forgot some of our dishes and didn't bring a bottle opener for the beers. Throughput was a bit slow bc it took a while to receive our orders. Sushi & cocktails: They offer two options, and we decided to go with the Premium AYCE. They have a QR code for the menu then you'd fill out the sheet for each round. The taste of each fish was good, especially the seasoned ones. Presentation can improve. Some of the cuts were messy. My favorite appetizers is the Monkey Ball. The alcoholic beverages were sweet. Can't expect much when it's $10, so I didn't expect them to be strong. - Monkey Ball - Garlic Edamame - Lychee Martini - Soju Sunrise - Salmon, Tuna, Blue Fin nigiri - Sushi Damu - Protein rolls Pricing: Their AYCE options are more on the higher end. We enjoyed the majority of the appetizers and sushi. Presentation can be cleaner. Drinks were okay, and service can improve.
Came here after debating between Sushi Damu and Sake 2 Me Newport - ended up choosing Damu because we heard parking was easier. Ironically, we got there around 6 PM and still had to circle for about 10 minutes before finding parking since the plaza was packed (possibly because of the animal hospital in the same center). Pro tip: even if you join the waitlist online, you still need to check in inside when you arrive. We missed that step, so parties who arrived after us got seated before us. We ordered the AYCE Premium (without the grilled options), and honestly it was more than enough food. Service was friendly and efficient, and dishes came out at a good pace. Favorites: * Nigiri: Unagi, Scallop * Rolls: Craw Me Daddy, Dynamite, Spider Roll * Appetizer: Baked Mussels, Poke Nacho Music was decent volume where it was still easy to have a conversation. It helped that we were in a booth. We only made it through 2 of the 3 rounds and still felt like we got our money's worth. We're not usually big on AYCE, but if the craving hits again, Sushi Damu would definitely be on our list.
Our server Matthew was super nice and took our orders. If you order a lot, the orders might take some time to come out, but all the sushi were delicious and fresh. The manager even came over to make sure everything was good afterwards which was nice of him. Would definitely recommend for AYCE.

This is bar none the best ayce sushi spot I've ever been to. Usually at an ayce they pile on the rice but here they use a nice light amount that compliments everything so well. We went with the $60 option and left very full but not that gross kind of full. I also had a lychee martini which was delicious and perfectly strong. - 5* Service. The service is extremely attentive to your needs. Just flip the sign to green and they come running! Keep it on red and they'll leave you in peace. :) - 5* ambiance. The music was great. It wasn't too loud, just perfect classics you'll instantly recognize and want to sing along to. Lighting for the table was perfect while the restaurant is dim. Perfect to feel more private. - 3.5* Salmon Sashimi (chef special). The chef gave us this order. It was okay, but salmon isnt really my go-to. Not a bad Roll and I'm sure many would love this. - 5* Coconut Shrimp Roll. delicious I'd have ordered a second if there wasn't already so much to consume. - 3* Scallop Hand Roll. This had a very punchy flavor. Overall good, but not for me. - 3* Dynamite Roll (crawfish). Very little crawfish despite being a crawfish Roll. Small pieces with little flavor, but together it was a good bite. - 5* Alaskan. Hands down the best Roll we had. Very warm, delicious spicy crab and the baked salmon melted in your mouth. Definitely give this one a try. - 5* Caterpillar. Always a safe order with great flavor. Can't go wrong. - 4* Shogun. This sounded better in the menu. It was still good, but I didnt know what to expect. Its a very refreshing roll to eat between the heavier rolls. - 2.5* Spider Roll. This was unfortunately a bad roll. No flavor, very cold, and the seaweed was chewy. Almost like it had been sitting out ready for someone to order. It surprised us because the rest of the rolls were quite good. 4* Nagiri - all good and fresh. The blue fin tuna was the best. The yellowtail was good but also the weakest. Before coming here, I read the great reviews and thought "how great can AYCE sushi be" and I was proven wrong. This is the best AYCE sushi I've ever had and I've had a lot. The quality of the fish here beats out a lot of regular sushi restaurants (non AYCE). All the fish used here are fresh and melty. I was so surprised at the quality that I even told a couple friends to make sure they try it when they visit SoCal. Service is also exceptional here and food came quickly. Came here for the first time on a rainy Saturday at around 4 pm with the hubby. Place had about 5 tables filled so not packed. There was no wait for us. Service was great. I like how they all work together and it's just not one server. So guests do not get neglected. Also, I love their ready to order sign on the table. Again, no neglect to the customers. I used to go here a lot when I lived in OC. I loved the fish to rice ratio and the large selection of nigiri. It's been a couple of years, but it's charged a bit. There's more rice now and it got pricier. However the fish was still good, but I think other places are more worth now. read more
I always heard that Sushi Damu was a good place for ayce but since it's on the pricier side ($45) I never really went. But omg I definitely should come sooner! The interior is nice. Dimly lit with lots of seating. I don't recommend coming in a party larger than 8. 6 is best for comfort. The servers were very sweet and helped us right away explaining their system since it was my groups first time. The 3 of us decided to go for ayce since a la carte is not worth it when comparing prices. They started us off with the chefs special which I'm assuming every person gets one of. It was the toro and was absolutely delicious and a great way to start the meal. Everything was super fresh. The rice to fish ratio was not the best (too much rice some fish cuts to thin and other thicker) but the quality of the fish was so buttery and soft that it didn't really matter to us too much. We came at lunch time on a Sunday. The restaurant was already packed! However, we were quickly seated and served. They have a sign that you can flip around when you're ready to order. This was nice considering some sushi restaurants do not quickly check in on additional orders. The sushi was pretty good, but the ratio of rice to fish felt more rice heavy. We love eel and usually get some form of a dragon roll. Seeing Dragon's Breath appealed to us. When they served it in a firy plate, it gave us unwarranted attention from other patrons. We didn't know this, so our social anxiety went up (not the restaurant's fault! But good to note). The roll had too much cream cheese, which made it feel heavy, and overpowered the taste of the fish. Finally tried the $90 omakase at Sushi Damu and honestly the fact that it also includes the premium AYCE makes it feel pretty worth it if you come hungry. The omakase pieces were solid across the board, especially the tuna and yellowtail which tasted really fresh. The eel had a great texture and the izumi dai was lighter and super clean tasting. I also liked the octopus more than expected since it wasn't overly chewy. One of my favorite bites overall was actually the spicy scallop nigiri from the AYCE side. Simple but really satisfying. Overall a fun spot if you want a more upgraded AYCE experience without going full super high-end omakase pricing. read more

For an upgrade, you can get AYCE PREMIUM Sashimi!!!!! Including Bluefin, Yellowtail, Salmon, etc! I've never seen such high quality thick pieces of marbled sashimi for an AYCE. Finally tried this place after hearing rave reviews about it, and it did not miss. Husband literally said it was the best AYCE he has had and he is a sushi fanatic. The nigiri and specialty rolls were fresh and incredible, I also loved how it wasn't a ton of rice but just enough ratio. But, I highly recommend the upgrade for the premium sashimi. It melts in your mouth and you can tell the difference. Totally worth it if you are a true sushi fan. We wanted to eat so much more but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. They also have a variety of appetizers and sides to choose from. The cocktails were also so fun and refreshing. My first time trying $60 AYCE, Sashimi are fresh with good texture, I would give 4.5 rating, the reasons why not full 5 star is because the following that I think is not perfect. Hand Roll- the seaweed wrap is little bit hard to chew, I see some traditional Japanese restaurant where they bake the seaweed first so it will taste better. The yellowtail collard is little bit overcooked, I prefer it to be more juicy. But if you come here for just Sashimi, this is the place to enjoy, and I will be back for sure. read more

Took my sister out for her birthday and we tried the premium menu with sashimi. The service here is a fun twist on rodizio-flip a card toward the sushi chef for service, and away when you just want to enjoy your meal. I was genuinely impressed by the staff's attentiveness; every time our card faced the chef, we were helped almost instantly. It worked even faster than the service buttons at Korean restaurants! As for the food, the sushi was fresh and offered plenty of choices. The online menu with photos was really helpful-no surprises, and it's nice that you don't get penalized for leftovers unless you go overboard. Portions are just right, so you can try a lot before getting full. I'd gladly return, though next time I'd skip the premium menu since I don't need so much sashimi. That's more for my sister- she's the bougie one. read more

I did not have a great time here during my last visit. I was reminded why I have not been here in a while. I came here alone on a whim because I was randomly craving sushi on a Friday night. I joined the waitlist via the Yelp app easily. The issue was that it kept bumping me down. At some point I was number 2 on the list but got bumped to number 6 because apparently other parties were getting kicked off the queue. It was at least an hour wait, which I expected anyways since it was a Friday night. But it was just a bit frustrating because you cannot really gauge if you should continue waiting in the area or go run some errands somewhere. I only ordered nigiri pieces, which were hits and misses. I liked the eel, yellowtail, and squid pieces the best. I did not like the smoked salmon and tuna. I do not think I have ever had good tuna here. The smoked salmon reminded me so much of lox salmon, which is salty and briny and far from smokey. I did love their appetizers. The yummy crunch, which is a poke wonton, was so yummy indeed. read more

I can honestly and confidently say that this was by far my favorite sushi spot that I've been to, and I'm definitely going to come here again soon and come again for my birthday. I've never heard of this place before, but one of my friends had recommended it. So we were in the area to finally give it a try, and my goodness it exceeded my expectations. The quality of the fish was superb and tasted so fresh, literally getting hungry again thinking of this sushi. The service was amazing as well, thankfully we went when it wasn't busy because our server said it can be a very long wait to be seated. The inside the restaurant is quite small, so not a lot of people can be accommodated inside which means there will be a long wait list. How many rounds?
It's AYCE (all you can eat) within their time limit so as much as you can eat. You'll get charge if you over order and can't finish it.
Do they still offer AYCE lunch prices?
Yes they do. Regular AYCE and sashimi AYCE for a little bit more.
When is your last call on Fridays?
We close at midnight on Fri, last call is 30 min prior to closing so it would be 11:30pm on Fridays. Please note that last seating is at 12:00 pm
Is there a max number of people you can do for reservations?
Hi, it’s usually 6 people max, we turn it off occasionally based on business requirements. We have waitlist though to put your name on it in case there’s a wait when you get here
