I have been going since they opened and still my favorite Sushi spot. I've always had a good experience.

They no longer have the phallic menu. No wait on a Tuesday night, but all the booths were taken so we sat at the sushi bar. We ordered Miso Soup, Johnathan Hamachi, jalapeño hamachi, aji, saba, hamachi, maguro,sake,Hirame, Maro and a Philadelphia roll. My first impression was the Johnathan Hamachi roll wasn't rolled very tightly and was sort of hard to eat. Other than that it tasted very good and had to be my favorite roll of the night. A couple of the Nigiri came marinated which was different from what I usually get. I don't think I cared for them too much though. Anthony the sushi chef is really nice. As for the rest of the service we got water once in the beginning and then ran out towards the middle of the meal. We waited a while to see if the server would check to see if we ran out. No such luck. I finally had to ask the server to refill our water, but she started to talk to some regulars and forgot about it. I had finished the rest of our sushi, one being the jalapeño roll before she refilled our water. I hope they read this so they know they need to step up the service and try and anticipate the needs of their customers. Anthony gave us another nigiri and we got an orange at the end of the meal. The bill ran us around $75 which is pretty pricey and the service left a bitter taste. read more

Me and my wife just had an awesome sushi experience we haven't had for a long time. We ordered three rolls, nigiri platter, tadaki and scallops platter (I think the chef specially created this plate for us) and tempura udon. All of them were top notch quality and super yummy. Very fresh sushi with friendly proprietors. A nice neighborhood place. I am particularly fond of the Grilled Ebi (shrimp) salad. Super tasty and I love the dressing. My husband LOVES the teriyaki chicken, California rolls, and tempura vegetables. I agree, they are very good. The dragon roll and potstickers are also favorites. As a bonus, once Sue gets to know you, you are treated like family and greeted with a cheerful hello. read more

Tough review. While I was sitting for almost an hour waiting for my spicy hand roll and the other thing I got (A special roll with some tempura elements and other stuff) I could tell there were some regulars who love each other and the chef. I am not a regular. I was here for soooooo long and the sushi was sooooooooo expensive, it got a bit silly. Being approached about placing my order took like 20+ minutes. After three degrees of global warming, my roll showed up. And the roll was very mediocre, especially in the sense it was logistically inedible- about four inches in diameter. Getting one piece in a mouth isn't possible. So I don't know, maybe your are supposed to chop it into a salad or something. I'm open to advice on how to eat sushi rolls of ridiculous diameter. The spicy tuna hand roll was an epic $9 and 0% better than one from anywhere. This place does suffer from my comparisons to Furo Sato, the departed Michi, whatever the one on Campbell ave at San Tomas Aquino is called this month, etc. because it is sooooo expensive here! If you are a fan of Sushi, you must try this place. Anthony is a master with the freshest fish, most flavorful seasonings and the best texture I have ever had with sushi including a week long stint in Tokyo. Ask Anthony for the Steve Roll as he has made a special roll for me. At least tell him Steve sent you. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Not a suitable place for a large group as he only has a few booths, and tables. Lunch is great and there can be a wait. Not open Sunday or Mondays for lunch. This place is great!!! Why are all the best sushi places in the strip malls? Visiting LG for the week, popped in without a reservation at 7:30, great service, superb rolls. Could be five stars, but our meal was light and we did not experince enough on the menu. Strongly recommended. read more

Wow, just plain bad. Service and food. Even my 11 year old was embarrassed for them with the lack of service that was provided. The lady serving seem like she couldn't be bothered. We order 3 sushi rolls and an appetizer. All pretty bland in taste and presentation. Don't be fooled by Yelp's 4 star review. Just see all the more recent reviews. read more

Great Sushi. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife and they do a great job. I'm a sushi snob - I don't care about service or location - I care about taste, texture and flavor. This is the best sushi in the south bay with exception of perhaps one other place in south San Jose. The owner and his wife are very friendly and nice. She waits the tables and gets a little confused sometimes, but she's cute about it and very kind. He is a great chef and is a super nice guy. read more

LOVE SUSHI E! Have been coming here for 5 years. Sushi E is a mom-and-pop restaurant. Tony is the only sushi chef (he has help with preparations) and usually his wife Sue is the only server. Its a small place, maybe 15-20 seats. Tony serves only the freshest fish, expertly prepared. For loyal customers he will throw in "Tony Special" to help you explore new tastes. Don't do it. I think the good reviews on here are bought and paid for. I am actually sitting here at the table right now and the meal is so terrible I am actually compelled to yelp about it. We ordered the rock n roll, spider roll, jalapeño hamachi and the honey bunch. All 4 rolls include ingredients that don't belong in them and they have been rolled so sloppily that they don't even stay together. While I guess the concept for their rolls is good, their execution is as bad as their service. Here's an idea, smile and greet your customers, you may get more than 4 people in here a night. read more

The Ebi Tempura Roll is delicious !!! We will be back. The California roll was very good too with real crab and no cucumber.

It's in the neighborhood and we visited it often in the past, but finally gave up because the service basically sucks. The woman is a complete space case and never apologizes for screwing things up. Just laughs and mumbles some nonsense. The food is usually good, but it's American Japanese (if that's a thing) and not true Japanese food. So after years of not visiting the store, we ventured back in again, and surprise....same lousy service. 2 of our group got their "entrees" fairly soon, the third came after the first two were finished, and the 4th never arrived and I had to ask about it. When I'm in the bay area and want good quality sashimi and rolls, this is my go to. Tony and Sue are very accommodating, and Tony has a natural talent with his delicious food. Any food that he puts out is absolutely delicious. A few of my favorites is the red dragon roll, the blondie roll, and raw scallops. Regardless, whatever you order here will be impressive and filling! read more

This is probably my go to place for some awesome sushi! What I love about this place is that the sushi is always fresh! If you go to this place you have to try something different and explore their rolls or sashimi. Something out of your comfort zone. I have one word for you - Omakase Omakase is Japanese for letting the chef choose. I'm sure you've read in the other reviews how fresh the fish is and they aren't lying. The chef, Anthony, picks all his fish and has exceptional taste. He would rather buy wild fish than farmed and you can taste the difference. This is why the prices there are on the higher side. I've been there a couple times, but the last time i went I told Tony "omakase kudasai" and his face lite up. I don't really know what we got after that, but everything just melted in my mouth. The place is small, but I've never seen it packed. The music is pretty cheesy and the only reason I mention the music is because it is pretty distinct. If you go to Sushi E, take a chance and be adventurous because there is only so much you can do with a spicy tuna roll. Just ask him what he recommends and go with it; I guarantee you'll be happy or you next roll is on me. What I love about small places is that they really take pride in their work. I found this place by accident as I was heading to the Taqueria next door. I figured I would try it since I haven't had sushi in awhile. I wasn't expecting much from the place but I was impressed with the food when I got home to eat. The California roll was delish! The tempura was a little overcooked but I think that's because they were slow and the oil got too hot. The shrimp was good too! I will definitely be back! read more

This is another Yelp Mobile find that paid off for me. The SO and I were heading up to the Santa Cruz Mountains for the weekend and wanted to squelch our sushi cravings before going rural. Yelp Mobile brought up Sushi E and the map showed it was right off the 85. So we took the detour and navigated the tough streets of Los Gatos to arrive at this small little sushi joint in a strip mall anchored by a Safeway. We were rewarded with very tasty and fresh hamachi belly nigiri, salmon nigiri and a crazy giant "Romance Roll". While the general atmosphere reflected the strip mall it is in, the sushi here is very fresh and creative. I'd certainly return here again. read more

You absolutely have to be a regular here to have a good experience. I've been lucky enough to be accompanied by one twice, during my only two visits. It's almost full service here, so don't expect too much aside from the order-taking and delivery of your essentials. Service is really catered to people they know, or any big spenders (order alcoholic bevs). The place is really small, so seating is very limited. So avoid busy weekend nights unless you know what you're doing. With my friend, the regular, we always get some kind of roll for free. Last time, they gave us this huge dessert platter for his bday with deep-fried cream cheese sticks and bananas. There was a Mouse/Bear sitting in the middle made out of oranges with a candle to top it off. The damn thing was delicious. Food quality here is very fresh. I was surprised since it seemed like a hole-in-the-wall. If you are a true sushi lover, this is one of the best. They don't over-compensate by using too much sauce and garnishes here. It's real simple sushi - the traditional way. They let the flavors of the seafood speak for itself. I, on the other hand, am not a true sushi lover. But I know fresh and good food when I see it. Go here if you're a traditionalist for sushi. If you prefer elaborate, tongue-tantalizing sushi slathered with amazing sauces like me; it's best if you go somewhere else. Not the place for yuppies. Service... 3 stars. She's great if she knows you Food....4.5 stars. Fresh. Definitely safe to eat here. Come often, yell a friendly 'Hello/Goodbye' to the staff upon entry/exit, tip decent; and they will remember you, as well as take care of your every need (and the occasional free item). read more

The sushi I've had there is always really good. I've never had anything there that was sub-par and most has been above average. My problem with this place is that there isn't really an attempt at good service. It's a family-owned place and popular with locals (of which I am not) who do a lot of take-out. It takes a long time to get service even though it's not busy, and there isn't a lot of seating. The seats at the tables along the left wall are directly below the vent which is on cold all the time, so the restaurant is cold. Great food comes. Then absolutely no effort by the person to try to get the check going... I try try try to relax and go with it, but it's really annoying to be ignored. I just can't make this a destination sushi stop for me. read more

I'd have to say that except for the.. um... interesting menu art this is some of the best sushi I've ever had. The sake just melts in your mouth and the yellowtail is also excellent. Their rolls, although a little pricey, are worth every penny. The textures they combine work so well together. I highly recommend ordering something with tobiko because they give you a mixture of three, black, green and red. This place really has phenomenal sushi. Do not come here they're so many better restaurants in the los gatos/Saratoga area. Ambiance is less than ideal tables are mediocre, floors are dirty, restaurant over all is cluttered one of the walls was lined with packaged ramen, toaster oven, and other strange odds and ends. Service was sub par got in were seated by one lady who spent most of our dining experience sitting down talking to another waitress and the sushi chef. As well as playing on her phone not even glancing in our direction. There were only two tables there on a Saturday afternoon which should have been a clue about the horror we would soon endure. Order our food hoping to get what we were paying for. First came out a rainbow row. The fish tasted slimy, and was smelly. The salmon looked a dull orange rather than the fresh orange color I am used to seeing at other sushi restaurants. The avocado was ok. The inside of our rainbow toll had horrible imitation crab. Our first roll came out like 20 mins before the other two. The dragon roll was ok but no where near the quality of sushi I am used to. Tempura was not crispy enough. Next came the worst horror which was my boyfriend lion king roll. Upon its arrival when I smelled the cheese on it I gagged. There was no mention that there would be cheese on the roll in the first place. The cheese tasted like queso dip, and the cooked salmon was not fresh. My boyfriend and I tried once piece then just left the roll on the corner of the table At this point my guest and I were itching to get out of there. It took us 10 mins after abandoning our food to get the check as the waitress was chatting with another waitress. They gave us a complimentary orange however it was not a peace offering for the horror we had endured. The cheese smell still haunts my nose. AVOID! read more

We went to Sushi E for an early dinner on a Saturday evening, because of the great reviews on Yelp. It definitely is a hole in the wall, and there is nothing particularly charming or pretty about it. The food, however, was really, really good. The sushi was obviously fresh, and they have a great variety of unusual and creative rolls that are fabulous. The chicken teriyaki sauce was a little sweet, but it was a nice cut of meat, and the kids enjoyed it. There were lots of regulars in there, and the main woman (Sue) who appears to run the place was very nice to them. She also went out of her way to say "bye" to us as we left. The younger woman who happened to be our server, however, was pretty disengaged. We came in with two toddlers, which I know some waiters hate. So maybe that was the problem. But regardless, it was REALLY hard to get her over to the table, so we spent a lot of time trying to get her attention. She seemed really rushed, walking away from us midsentence as if she were working 12 tables (although there were only two other tables at the time!). Anyway, I definitely recommend Sushi E because I think good sushi is hard to find. But I hope some of Sue's friendliness spreads to the rest of the waitstaff. read more
