2. Dragon Roll

We only got one picture (the dragon roll) because we were so into the food, but everything was great. It's a nice cozy relaxed place. The sushi was yummy (California roll, Dragon roll, Amazing grace roll, and Blondie roll) and the hospitality was so pleasant. The lady was very kind and helpful. My bf and I really enjoyed the experience there. 10/10.

When the food is good, it is gone fast:)

Tony and Sue are AMAZING! Right from the start we were greeted with an excited smile. They seated us in a booth right next to the sushi station and we watched our food get made right in front of us. It's very family friendly and the space is very calm. My girlfriend and I LOVE this place and can't wait to come again. Thank you Sue and Tony!

I had some extra time today and thought I would stop by for some lunch, and I'm so glad I did! The owners are so incredibly sweet and even offered me one of their favorites to try. They made me a beautiful 49ers roll. I'll be back, thank you!

Expensive for the amount of food you're getting. My seafood salad's portion was tiny & it was only OK, nothing special.

One drawback is their seaweed salad. It isn't worth one bite. They used to have it perfect, but not the last few years. Now, it's super dry, hard to chew and not properly seasoned (missing seasoning). Quite disappointing, bc that was always something extra I got. Safeway down the street has it better, which says it all!

A very short wait and my order arrived, nicely presented. The rolls tasted fresh and were nicely constructed. I know veggie rolls are not a thorough reflection of a Japanese restaurant but sometimes places get these simple things wrong. The only thing I didn't prefer was that the rice vinegar taste leaned a little more sweet than I prefer. Despite that I had no problem with the meal. But next time I'll order something different. Service was excellent and very prompt. Prices were reasonable. $15 total for my two rolls. The ambiance is no frills/casual and I was fine with that. You can dine inside or outside. Dog friendly on the outside patio! I sat inside as it was pretty warm outside. Since they're on the main strip in downtown LG, you'll need to park on the street or elsewhere nearby as they don't have their own parking lot. If presented with the opportunity I would come back to try some other dishes.

We were 10 minutes late (saying goodbye to children) and the restaurant was pleasant. Thankfully, they were still taking in orders for drinks and had not started. Drink menu is heavily concentrated on sake. Not being a heavy sake drinker, we naturally headed over to wine and beer menu. It is much slimmer pickings than the sake, but enjoyed our sparkling wine paired with the kaiseki very much. The dishes were all excellent. The thing that lingered in my mind even till this day, a week after I am writing this review, is that umami flavor bomb chawanmushi with mosel mushroom and uni (never can go wrong with uni). The other thing that I thought took more skill, attention, and was unique to the chef's background was their dashi/broth. It was a complex of flavors from the sea that all paired well together. I thoroughly enjoyed every sip, and the flavors waking up all parts of my tongue. One more part - the meat dishes were not my favorite. They just do the seafood so well. Oh! And dessert, of course, the Japanese melons were as if it was dipped in fructose lol Ambiance is dressy and date-worthy :) the elderly ladies beside me were sporting their Birkens and taking pics of their food next to it

We knew that this was an upper-end restaurant and like most restaurants of that caliber, the establishment had some traditions that they liked to adhere to regarding dress and comportment. Not wanting to cause any embarrassments, we hoped to get a couple of questions answered before we walked in. They don't answer their phone. They don't reply to emails. Their website says to contact them via phone messaging, but they don't even reply to THAT. Fortunately, there is another Japanese restaurant just one block down (Hachi ju Hachi) which serves superb, authentic Japanese food and which warmly WELCOMES its customers. We went there instead and are of the opinion we didn't miss out on anything by giving this kaiseki joint a pass.

We're glad we picked here to show them what the Bay Area can do in terms of more authentic Japanese food. The decor is traditional and not fancy, but comfortable and clean. The shishito peppers were really tasty, not too hot, pleasantly hot. Edamame was typical, nothing really special, but it's a bit difficult to really elevate edamame. The braised pork was good and the lean parts were easy to selectively eat. Nothing here is aggressively seasoned, but also not at all bland, so it's a good balance of flavorful but not overbearing. The grilled chicken wings were okay, but nothing outstanding or memorable - but simple and fine. Our "main" dishes, the deluxe meshi, nike tofu, and okonomiyaki were all great! Really enjoyed all of them and they were again flavorful, authentic tasting, and generous portions to share. Wish this were a little closer to where we live, but we enjoy coming here whenever we do and I recommend this for trying more traditional dishes when you want something different than simple teriyaki and sushi rolls.

I liked their traditional izakaya decor inside. They also had a tatami seating area towards the back. We decided to go family style so that we could try more items on their menu. We ordered the Niku Trio Set, which included braised pork, grilled chicken wings, niku tofu, edamame, and shishito. The food came out really quickly. Other than the edamame, which was very bland, everything was very flavorful. The pork was very soft, and the sliced thin beef paired really well with the tofu in the niku tofu. Both dishes came piping hot, and were very comforting, like home-cooked food. The shishito peppers came with a lot of bonito flakes; they're charred very well and not spicy at all. Wings well nicely grilled, too. The seafood okonomiyaki was not bad. It's a bit softer than I expected, but had quite a lot of seafood. The large Deluxe Meshi was pretty big. It came in a hot stone pot with a generous amount of salmon, eel, flying fish roe and a poached egg. I loved how crispy the rice around the pot was. No wonder it's their most popular dish. If you like authentic Japanese food, I would highly recommend this place.

The drunken noodles and fried rice are always packed with flavor, and the fresh spring rolls are such a refreshing starter. This time we tried the Taiwanese bamboo shoot dish from the Chef's Recommendation section. It was definitely spicy, though not quite as fiery as the last time we had it. Maybe they toned it down a bit... or maybe we were braver last time We also ordered the Khao Soi, which was pretty decent. Fewer sides compared to some other places, but still really tasty overall. The Rose was nice, and the ahi was pretty good, but nothing noteworthy. I looked at my watch and replied, "That's two hours from now and there are lots of tables open right now." We got seated, our food arrived, and then it started raining harder. Instead of quietly moving out the couches to add additional tables and chairs, the staff dragged them all across the floor, creating loud scraping noises the entire time. It made for a really unpleasant dining experience. We asked for a little more coffee, but it never came. We even flagged down our server and she just stared at us blankly as if we had never asked. We eventually just got up and left. The food was good, but it doesn't make up for the terrible service and rude treatment.

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.

Special selection: You can only choose one per person. We opted for the Boujee Roll and the Sashimi Salad. The Boujee Roll--an upscale roll made with premium ingredients--was good, and the Sashimi Salad was solid. Nigiri: Left the best for last, but we were disappointed with the quality of this lineup. Knowing that it was the premium addition, the quality wasn't the best--and yes, this is factoring in that it's AYCE, but the texture and taste were still a bit off. Overall, we would come back maybe for the à la carte rolls, or if we do AYCE, we might just stick with the regular option.
