I recently visited Sushi Kakogan with my boyfriend and his brother for the first time, and we had an overall delightful experience! The menu was pescatarian-friendly, and left many options for delicious rolls at a very reasonable price. The vegetable and shrimp tempura was a beautifully prepared and not overly fried appetizer, and every roll we ordered was absolutely delectable. Okay, I'm an avid yelp review surfer. I'm going to start by saying I came here by chance without looking at reviews. I would NOT have come if I'd read reviews. BUT ANYTHING UNDER A FIVE STAR FOR THIS PLACE IS INSANITY! I've visited a total of three time now (soon to be four because I'm writing this review with drool trailing down my mouth) I've sat at the bar both times, the level of service I received was/is exceptional! One on one talks about food, vacation destinations, ingredients, craftsmanship, lessons on how to really enjoy your food, laughs, and once with a terrible cold I think my eyes were even watering. (Tears of joy I like to think; Probably because the food was food was gorgeous and DELICIOUS) I've had the chef pick my rolls twice, and sampled a couple off the menu. I partook in some smoked salmon nigiri, and SEASONED salmon nigiri! What have I been missing my whole life?! Had some BBQ albacore also (100% please try)!!! They do not mess around here! Placed an order online, said it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrive 25 minutes later and a server tells me my order will be out in just a couple more minutes. Cool. Ten minutes later, still haven't received my order. A server comes out and says "we had an issue with our printer so your order will be out in just a few more minutes. We put a rush on it so it will be really quick." Um, ok. Fair enough, things happen I get it. I then proceed to wait another 30 minutes for my "rush order" to be made. Meanwhile I watched the sushi chefs roll countless other rolls for other tables and online orders. I get it things happen, but don't feed me a line of B.S. that my order will be ready "in a few minutes" and then that you're "rushing my order" when I have to wait another 30 minutes to get it done -- and countless other orders are being finished before mine! And the worst part of all was that there was no apology, no offer to make things better, nothing. On top of that, the food was mediocre at best. My ramen was cold and someone needs to tell this restaurant that sushi rice is supposed to have sugar and vinegar added to it. It had no flavor whatsoever, it was just straight white rice. After going here for over a year because we really enjoyed the food and service, we have steadily seen a decline in both. Our visit last Friday night will be our last. The food was bland and had no flavor and the service was horrible. We were a small table of 4. We ordered several rolls and different sashimi as well as oysters. Nothing had flavor (unless it was drowning in various sauces), everything was bland. The oysters tasted like the were straight from the freezer. We had to repeatedly ask for things and had to ask for chopsticks, napkins and soy sauce. Our server, Katie, was more interested in the single men at the bar than her tables. Came by here tonight to grab a roll to go before my husband's soccer game at Cal Fit down the road. First off, it took at least 10 minutes of me standing there at the entry for anyone to acknowledge me or come help me. When someone finally came to take my order I asked for the vegetarian Scooby Doo roll and asked if they could add inari to which she said yes, but she said it would take upwards of 30 minutes for it to be ready! Now this isnt a huge place, but there was a party of people (who looked like they were done eating), so I told her I had to be at the game in 20 mins, so she asked the sushi chef if he could do it fast and he said yes. Great, so I confirmed again, the Scooby Doo roll with inari. I sat down in the bar area to wait and I can see the sushi chef's work space clearly. He took one glove off, but not the other one that he had been wearing while making his last order. Okayyy... so I watched as he made my whole order with one fishy glove and one bare hand. WTF. If someone orders a veg roll, they probably dont want you to use fishy gloves to make it. But the bare hand just baffled me. While I was waiting, the girl brought my bill. After tax, the roll came to a little over $17. Whaaat? This roll doesnt even have rice or nori, so let me get this straight... I'm paying almost $20 for what is essentially half a cucumber stuffed with sprouts? Is this a joke?? Got to the game and saw that they didnt even put the tofu in it. Should have gone to Jamba Juice. Won't be going back. Two stars are for the fact that they even offer a decent number of veg options, and that he made my order in under 30 minutes. read more

So I love Mikuni's but this place is amazing and the owner is great. Try the pepper Finn, barbecue Albacore and don't miss the nachos. Please be patient as they are a new restaurant, but this place is here to stay and the food is top notch. Can't wait to come back. Very disappointed by the food quality and representation of Japanese food. Ordered through "Doordash" My bento box I ordered was grilled steak and salmon. My steak was cut so thin and chopped up in a small pile and my salmon was overcooked with watery weak teriyaki sauce on top (pretty tasteless) for $20. We ordered (3) bento boxes and (2) orders of sushi total cost was $121, this was terrible tasting food and overpriced and our delivery guy delivered 30 minutes late due to the restaurant unable to prepare it within 56 minutes. What a great Sushi place! We went there after a school event and felt very welcomed. Kevin was awesome and very personable. He made us feel special and as a business woman, I am impressed! I really wanted this place to be good as it is very close to where I live. Boy was I wrong! The food was ok...not great. We had some tempura which was just greasy and had very little tempura batter on it. The gyoza was so-so...I've had much better. We had 3 different rolls and they weren't bad just not "oh wow these are awesome". The service however was not good. I think it's because they so young and inexperienced. Our waitress sneezed twice into her hand while taking our order. If you've ever been in the service industry you know to sneeze into your elbow if you must in front of a customer. The other waitress was scratching what looked like her crotch right there in front of everyone. It may have been her inner thigh but it looked like she was going to town down there. Holy smokes! We decided to try Sushi Kakogan based on reviews we've read. Man, does this place rock! The place has a real chill vibe and looks great. We were greeted by the staff like we were long lost friends the moment we walked in. We sat at the bar and started chatting with Kevin, who was very, very nice. Ordered a Summer Roll and 2 Bento Boxes. The sushi was so fresh and so delicious! I could have eaten a lot more, but we were short on time. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. We left the place with a date to come back and sample some sake (Uber will be driving us that night!) The manager behind the counter who wears glasses and a bucket hat was extremely rude when we made it known we had been waiting 40mins just for an appetizer. The servers then began to talk loudly to each other and stare at our table in front of the other customers. Extremely unprofessional and we will be taking our business elsewhere! Also a side note we are the most laid back customers ever, 40mins to get our appetizers though and not even order is a bit much. This is Camon Lee's 2nd restaurant, after Silver Sake in Carmichael. We've been regulars there for over 15 years so we were quite excited to try out his new place. Hubby and i went in for lunch today and were greeted by Camon and his server, who was very friendly. I think she was Ashley. We had our old favorite, lemon drop roll along with a special handroll he made for each of us. We washed it all down with yummy Nigori sake. Everything came in large portions and very tasty.
