I went to Kakogan because I was staying in a motel across the street while enroute to somewhere else, and was very pleasantly surprised. I agree with "VERY friendly staff" in another review. And my recommendation would be the Rocklin Roll (when in Rome . . . ). It is not so very different from a 49er Roll. Absolutely delicious. read more

So my expectations of this place when I walked in were iffy. But the dude making rolls (Jason) was pretty chill and after looking at the menu I noticed there wasn't really anything spicy enough for my tastes. He and I compromised about trying to make the spiciest roll I've ever had. He's said he could do it and he definitely didn't disappoint me. Not only did he fulfill my wishes, but he also managed to make the roll look very desirable. The presentation was perfect and after trying it I quickly realized this guy knew what he was doing. If I had more money in my wallet I would've given him a much lager tip because that was indeed the spiciest roll I've ever had. He managed to make it also taste amazing. PreCOVID: been here twice and both times we had to wait for a long time for our food. DURING LOCKDOWN: ordered through DoorDash and our dasher had to wait a long time for our food. TODAY: yet again we had to wait to be seated because they have to clean a table for us (even though there were two tables open) and then waited for almost an hour for our food. As a Rocklin resident, I recommend you go to another Rocklin sushi restaurant unless you don't mind wasting you time waiting. read more

We went here on a whim the other night and I'm so glad we did. I was impressed by the level of customer service right from the start. They made sure my 2.5 year old got her food ASAP as we requested as she was already getting antsy. Everything we ate was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try a few more rolls. read more

I will be completely honest, this isn't the best sushi I've ever had (by far), but not the worst. First walking in I noticed it had a nice view of the surrounding area and was greeted with the normal いらっしゃいませ! The restaurant is clean with a few anime pictures off to the side. Decor seems to lean towards hipster and definitely feels like they're trying to seem 'premium'. We will let the food be the judge. I ordered a lunch bento with mixed nigiri ($2 extra) and snow crab Cali roll (tempted by the real crab, $1.50 extra I think) The waitress on staff could be heard talking down to the man she was training.. "you should already know this!" She could be heard as he hurried to provide an answer to the customers seated near me. She was fairly short with me but not outright rude. Two chefs were working behind the sushi bar, one was working and the other was joking (LOUDLY) with some regulars. All good, we all need to have fun at times, however, this seemed to add to the wait time for food. Waitress dropped off a heaping bowl of luke-warm miso soup and a water. Miso was standard, water tasted like tap. My food arrived via the trainee waiter (who was courteous and well-mannered). The salad served with the box tasted sub-par with a strange aftertaste I can't put my finger on. The chef chose one salmon, one white tuna, and one cooked shrimp. Cali roll came in 4 pieces, two of which barely had any crab at all, mostly avocado. It tasted... Ok... It's just a Cali roll so I can't judge too hard on this one ;) the nigiri was my big disappointment of the meal. The tuna was mealy-textured, the salmon was limp and soft, and the shrimp seemed old and extremely thin. I always tip but it was hard for me to leave one this time (I still did). I walked out of the restaurant without so much as a glance from any of the staff. Although I no longer work customer service I had for 12 years in the past and ALWAYS thanked the customer sincerely with a smile. I was very underwhelmed by my visit. I usually like to give somewhere at least two visits before concluding my thoughts but just can't bring myself to to back. I wish the owner and staff the best. Ordered through door dash. We ordered 4 different rolls and also a pepperfin. I asked for 2 sides of ponzu sauce bc we had some potstickers here at home. I would've paid extra. Well we didnt get the extra sauce. And then the pepperfin was sent dry. No sauce at all either. The other 3 rolls we got were all different (49er, Chris roll & the lemon) yet all tasted the same. The lemon roll literally had lemon rinds INSIDE. And they all had the same sauces and were all drenched in tobiko. Very disappointed read more

I was eating here last night and a table next to us got terrible service. Overheard that they missed some rolls and got random food delivered that they didn't order. No apologies were offered. Then the guys at the table noticed that one of the sushi chefs was glaring, and I mean a scowl like for five minutes straight from the sushi chef, and they rightly, got up and confronted the chef. I've never ever seen such unprofessional attitude from an employee of a restaurant. Unless that guy was fired, I'd never recommend you go to this place. Who knows what he would do to you/your food if he screws up your order and you mention it. read more

REAL WASABI! The green paste made with horseradish was on the dish but OH my goodness, the real wasabi added amazing flavor! We ordered the 9oz mixed sashimi plate to share with edamame and Asahi beers. The sashimi was a nice variety and was really fresh! The serving size was very generous, we couldn't finish it. The edamame was nice and hot. The beers were icy cold with a nice cold glass. The service was great! Will definitely be back! read more

Ordered Bento box of Grilled beef and mix tempura through doordash. I was expecting grilled beef but when I got my order my beef was thinly sliced dry and hard beef with unknown sauce mixed to it. My mixed tempura was soggy and mixed tempura isn't (almost) even covered with tempura batter. Price is unreasonable for the taste, it was pure disappoinment. This is close to our home so we decided to try it out. Weird vibe right through the door. The sushi chefs and back kitchen staff were wearing masks but the three wait staff ( I think 1 woman was wait staff but she was just walking around hugging people at two different tables) were not. I get masks are not in everyone's personal wheelhouse but at this point wait staff should be wearing them. We should have just left at this point but remained hopeful for some tasty sushi. The sashimi plate was really sub par and the fish didn't taste fresh. The roll was decent because it had fried shrimp in it but the other elements were not good. Our waitress talked to us maybe three times and two of the women were just sitting down chatting each other up and drinking. Inside looked less than clean and the entire visit was a let down. We spent $80 on dinner and it was not even close to worth it. Unfortunate that a small business near us isn't worth supporting. read more

Okay. This place is LEGIT. My husband and I stumbled upon it by accident and didn't have huge expectations - but, let me tell you....this will be our #1 sushi place from now on. We went early on a Friday night - service is good - not superb - but, def good. The prices are a tad high, which is okay since the quality of fish is out of this world. We ordered the pepper fin which was AMAZING. The cut of fish was thicker than we were use to and the jalapeños were the perfect cut and spice level to top it all off. We talked about how we wished that we'd just ordered 3 orders of that dish! Second, we ordered the carpaccio (I can't remember the type of fish in the dish) which was equally as amazing as the pepper fin. Lastly, we ordered the sashimi appetizer which was PERFECT. The slices of fish were great size and cold and very fresh. I have a feeling that you can't go wrong with what you order here - the sushi chefs know their stuff. This place never, ever disappoints. We are so lucky that such an amazing sushi spot opened close to home. Camon, the owner, makes sure you have a dining experience every time, not just a meal. He knows our family well now and we basically let him choose what to make for us "omakase" style. The BBQ Albacore and Kakogan Nachos are the bomb. The rolls are not 50% off like most places around town nor should they be-they are huge and packed full of fresh fish. Tried Sushi Kakogan for the first time yesterday. We had the Over the Rainbow roll, the Hula roll and the T&A roll. All very good. The rolls are huge! I ordered online to go and my order was ready on time and packaged nicely with everything we needed. Good stuff! read more

I have heard this place was good so we tried it out. We were sat in a back Room and the server hardly came to check on us. If we needed stuff I had to walk out of the Room to the sushi bar and ask. The food was not great and the prices were very high. It was so cold in the restaurant we almost left to eat somewhere else. It was nice to see another sushi restaurant open up but disappointed. It was ok...fish didn't taste as fresh as it should be. The rolls were lacking flavor. Took a long time to get our food once we ordered and it wasn't that busy. Then it took a long time to get our check.
