Came here on a Monday at around 8:30ish. Service was strange. Like they were not very observant. There were 4 other tables beside mine and two servers but it was so hard to catch their attention to get anything. My salmon sashimi did not taste fresh. I eat a lot of salmon so this one was highly disappointing. The salmon did not melt in my mouth in any way but I had a slightly tougher texture. They didn't put any dressing on my friend's salad and it was so hard to flag them down to get the dressing. However she did say she liked the shrimp tempura rolls! read more

Swung by for the first time after the Long Beach Flea Market for a bit of sushi. Food was great - rolls are generously sized, reasonably priced, and there was decent variety. I had one of their baked rolls and it was very tasty, not drowning in spicy mayo like so many of these other similar places. Service was decent, ambience was alright - nothing fancy, reasonable for the price of the place. I noticed part of the wall decor included what I'm nearly 100% sure to be ikea shower curtains. Sushi Kara is a great local restaurant, and is probably one of the best sushi places in town. The servers are friendly, and the guys behind the counter are as cool as can be. The bar has a lot more entertainment factor, but they also have quite a few tables if you are on a date or if you have your family in tow. The food is good: the sushi and entrees are tasty, though I do not like that almost all of the sushi comes with avocado in it. Oh yeah, and the beer is cold and fresh. They keep up with the maintenance of the restaurant, and it always feels clean. This is a genuinely nice place to eat, and I am glad to have it in the neighborhood. read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Long Beach. This restaurant is 5 mins away from California State University, Long Beach and they serve delicious fresh sashimi. The best sushi deal for lunch. Although they recently raised their prices, their fish is still fresh. Can't beat a chirashi bowl, salad, and soup combo for around $14. Used to be $13 so I was bummed when I saw the increase. I haven't tried any rolls but I heard it was decent. My go to dishes are the chirashi bowl or the 5 mini hand roll combo. The mini hand roll combos are generally salmon, spicy crunch, spicy tuna, albacore (I think), and imitation crab. Even though it says mini, it is still really filling. Waiters are nice, but it can be hard to flag when it gets busy. Overall, thumbs up! read more

Sushi Kara has become my go to sushi bar in Long Beach. They have some very creative and delicious dishes, and reliably have fresh, quality fish. One of my favorites there is the Heart Attack appetizer. It is spicy and tasty, but not too overpowering. They have some great Spanish Mackeral usually, so make sure you try it if they have it. The Scottish Salmon is also amazing, very delicate and smooth. If only they had some beers on tap. read more

We came in after lunch and the restaurant was fairly empty. We sat at the bar and ordered Omakase. The experience was great. Best sushi in Long Beach, we come here regularly since the service is top notch, fish is fresh and prices are reasonable. Whenever we try another sushi spot we always want to come back to Sushi Kara. The cucumber roll is packed with three types of fish, no rice and wrapped in cucumber, so good! The seared tuna, long beach roll, Hawaiian roll and the simple sushi rolls are great too! They offer a good amount of deep friend rolls which are not our favorite but there are plenty of options with raw fish. Highly recommend! read more

I used to love this place but the attitude I just got from the waitresses was palpable! A woman there, didn't smile at us 1 time, looked at us with complete distain, gave us so much attitude the entire time. I was already having a bad day & she made it so much worse! The other girl helping her was a little less rude but they'd go to the back where we could see them laughing & talking about us. There was a hair in 2 of our dishes & they didn't clear 1 plate the entire time! I asked for a green tea & was handed a bottle, no ice or cup. We had to get up to ask for a straw & a bag for our leftover boxes, and we were the only table in the place, nobody else was in there! Came here last week just to try something different and im not really a sushi fan but my gf really is. The place was packed even at the bar. We sat there so we could see how they make everything. It was great really kool to see that. They came dropped off our drinks. It took a while to get our order taken but the food coming out not to long so no biggy. The orders we got was good. I absolutely love this place. Used to go to Niko Niko on Bellflower and PCH until they changed ownership. The menus changed, they raised the prices and more importantly, the comfortable feeling that we used to feel when we first walked in, disappeared. So, we did a search on Yelp and found this place! Wouldn't you know it....our old Sushi Chef from Niko Niko, Daniel, was there! Whoo hoo!! It seemed like it was meant to be. We were affectionately welcomed and immediately felt good about the place. We have now been there twice and will be coming back for more! On our first visit, we got the Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll and the Tiger Roll. Both really, really tasty! On our second visit we brought our daughter to check it out and say hi to Daniel. He was not in, but the owner, Song, made us feel like we had been coming there for years! He remembered us from our first visit and spoiled us while we were there. This time we had the Long Beach, Spicy Tuna Tempura and a Baked Salmon roll. All VERY good!!! I also like that they carry my Nigori Sake which I believe is the best tasting Sake there is. Not quite sure what people like Darren T. are talking about when they say that the sushi was not that great. I guess if you compared it to having a restaurant in the middle of the ocean where the fish can be caught and served within a matter of minutes, this place would be just OK. I usualy go to I LUV SUSHI when iI am in the area. But friends and I decided to try a new restaurant. It was Sunday night. There were good amount of costomers inside and we were lucky to be able to grab one of the two tables left at the time. They had many interesting original rolls such as Long Beach Rolls and the pricing was reasonable! I liked it the menu has pictures to make it easy for us to pick a dish. We had oysters, seaweed salad, Long Beach Roll, Baked Scallop Roll and ... some kind roll with albacore and fried garlic on top which actually tasted the best! Raw oysters felt little warm and fishy. Also I didn't like the hot sauce on top of the oyster. The baked scallop roll was okay. It was not bad but I felt like there were too much of mayo. Also they used the baby size scallop that I don't like that much. Oh well. I guess it's reasonable since the roll was only around $11. Seaweed salad was okay as well. They used only one kind of seaweed with a sesame but the flavoring was good. The service was friendly and quick. I enjoy the meal at Sushi Kara. But I prolly won't come back here. read more

Walked in at 2:59 lunch ended at 3 but the lady was nice enough to honor the lunch specials, so the customer service was already on a good start! Let me tell you we are all sushi addicts and the salmon here is to die for absolutely melts in your mouth the fish to rice ratio is perfect (they actually give you fish yes! LOL) I ordered my roll with jalapeños (because I love my rolls spicy). They were perfectly cut thin with actually some spice. Some sushi places give you thick pieces with no spice to it at all. We yelped soup, my 3yo daughter loves soup just as much as I do. I figured the soup bowl would be small so I had my wife order some extra rolls for me.
