Fresh and good. No complaints would recommend especially if you love to eat since it's an all you can eat and made to order.

First time eating here. Was in the area for lunch and my fiancé and I decided to stop to try it out. Food was okay. Not the best sushi or hibachi but worth the price point for AYCE. The place was clean and staff seemed very friendly when we initially enter. We were greeted by two staff very pleasantly and explained how the process works. They informed us that they have a "clean your plate policy" that means essentially they prefer you to eat all of your food before ordering more food....awesome idea, I thought. Welll, until we were getting ready to go and asked for the check. The waiter observed we still had like 3 pieces of our shrimp tempura roll on our plate (my fiancé) and I had 3 pieces of California roll on mine. She asked was there something wrong with the food she saw sitting on our plate and I just explained to her that I had got full. Before I could get my sentence completely out of my mouth, she began to scream, "I told you before you sat down, we have a clean your plate policy. You need to eat all your food on your plate or we charge you."-_- I was so shocked at this point the only respond I could give was a hysterical laugh. I really felt like Ashton Kutcher would pop out at any moment. Her tone could be equated to that of a mother who was angrily forcing their child to eat all the veggies at dinner all while promising them they wouldn't leave the table until the plate was clear. Yes! I was appalled. Honestly, we probably would've finished all of our food if we were not rushing to eat. They told us they closed at 3:30 pm and we arrived at about 2:50 pm. Nonetheless, we inquired about the price that we would be charged if we didn't eat the food and was willing to pay because they was just no way we could eat another bit. At that point, the waiter informed us that she would go talk to her manager to see how much we would have to pay. She left and upon coming back she informed us that the manager had found some grace (I guess) and decided to "let us slide since it was our first time" eating there (lol). I insisted we pay for the food but she insisted it was fine but warned us that next time be so forgiving and "they won't let us slide" because she told us of the "clean your plate policy at the beginning." I then went on to explain to her that the way she explained the clean your plate policy and the way I interpreted it meant: to get more food you had to eat all of what you order. I continued to explain that we didn't order seconds of anything so I wasn't aware we still had to eat every single piece of food off the plate... even before we could leave! I'm still shocked and have next had such a poor experience in my life. The policy itself isn't wasn't shocked me. It was the delivery and tone of the waitress. Her customer service was horrible. I'm only giving a two star review because the food was ok and the price point is unmatched. I'm interested in knowing if anyone else has had a similar experience to this one. I have read some reviews before writing this one that mentions they prefer you to eat all your food before ordering more but none mention the actually "policy" or being forced to eat all their food before being able to LEAVE! Shame on your Sushi King for such poor customer service. I doubt if I'll ever give any of your locations a try!!! I wish I had come to YELP! to read reviews before even going there at all. read more

Weird service. I ordered a fried rice and they gave me a volcano roll instead (most likely someone else's). My total came out to be around $27 and some change, I paid with a $50 and they took tip out of my total without notice. Not great service, I went around lunch time and it was not packed at all, yet the server was all over the place. I'll go to Henrico location next time. Food was alright - tiny buffet that consisted of some avocado salad, fake-crab meat salad, some fruit and old tiramisu-like cake. Sushi takes a while to come out, even when it's empty. read more

I am very disappointed. I drove 1 1/2 hours just to go to Sushi King. When I got there they were not serving lunch. No biggie. BUT, even after I told the gentleman how far I had driven, he said I could not wait in the lobby until 5:00, which I was willing to do since I had driven so far. It was 32 degrees outside, and I couldn't wait in the freezing cold. I asked if I could stay because of that and the fact that I have a heart pump inside me. I stumbled upon this place because I didn't want to drive 6 miles down the street to Kabuto but I'm glad I was lazy that day. All you can eat dinner was more than satisfying (sushi, appetizers, fried rice, noodles, hibachi, & more !!!). The Yakisoba noodles were my favorite !!! You cannot leave food on your plate and if you do they weigh it and you'll get charged which makes perfect sense. We can be quite wasteful sometimes in America. I'm definitely going to be coming back!! My waiter was super nice as well as the host. I also like the space in the booth ((good for prego bellies)) !!! I didn't even get to the salad bar. I was way too impressed by the delicious foods on the menu. The portions are small but it was good. It allows you to not be overwhelmed by large plates or to get trapped into not eating all your food. My only gripe is the smoked salmon being a bit salty. But it's not enough to take away all 5 stars. read more

Sushi King is an interesting place. If you want a quiet or private restaurant to eat at this is not the one to go to. If you are a social person then you have a good experience with good sushi. The selection of sushi is very nice. The format is best if you share the different sushi rolls with one another in your party. Once you begin eating simply place an order for your next sushi rolls. The prices aren't all to extreme either. A great place to eat with very good service. read more

This is probably my favorite buffet in town. The waiters are friendly and come to see if you want more food. There is even a salad bar for when your waiting. The sushi is yummy and i recommend the philly role read more

Tonight was me and my two daughters (a teen and a toddler), my mother and step father. We were seated right away around 6:30 pm. After a disappointment with a long wait at a restaurant a bit closer to our home.. Sushi King had been considered, but we thought our first option was the best choice.... however, after tonight, we realized that Sushi King should have been our FIRST choice! Our Server Chris was prompt, overly respectful and patient. He got every single special request correct. I am ALWAYS happy when my drink is full, we all had plenty the entire meal. It is HARD to find good servers now a days (I should know, I AM one) but this guy went above and beyond. The food was delicious as always, atmosphere was quite and pleasant; we all left happy and very content. (Did I mention the teen and todd?) This was the second time I have been here in a month and will now have to try and make it in more often!! Great job to entire staff! We had hibachi meals, sushi, sashimi as well as chicken nuggets (TODDS!!) and salad bar which had fruit as well. read more

Our server did fine but was clearly still working on gaining a rhythm for serving. Unfortunately, the manager just paced and wandered the restaurant. A good manager would have been assisting his servers and checking with guests. The sushi was good but we waited 30+ minutes for three volcano rolls and I'm still not sure why it took that long. Was disappointed to hear the manger speaking rudely and condescendingly to the hostess when he could have assisted her in her duties or used the moment for teaching. Basically all my issues with my experience could have been improved by better management. Will likely go back to the hull street location instead. read more

Me and my husband used to always go to the hull street location. Today is the first time we tried the Midlothian tpke location. As we walk in there is a couple walked out leaving, told else the food was really good and ask the server name chris for the service said he was really nice, as we walk in we told the hostess we would like to request Chris to serve us, I believe is the manager she heard we ask for Chris walk over and told the hostess to sit us at his section. Over all, I love the food the sushi was really good and the manager come over check us and asked how was everything and I told her surprisedly the sushi is really fresh she explain how they make the sushi as we order with no sitting out time and how they control the freshness of the fish. She was really nice and the server Chris was really friendly spent time talked with us. Over all we will be back it was great time. read more

A favorite spot of my friends and I! We kick back, enjoy the food and the wine. We order apps, hibachi, and sushi. There is a wonderful vibe in the restaurant and the staff is friendly and fast. One of my friends was confused about the pricing and only wanted and app. We explained it to the waitress and she talked to the manager who was happy to sell her the app only at the to go price. Every time I come to this location I have a bad experience! They say it's all you can eat. The idea is great if it didn't take 30 minutes for each roll to be prepared! I have been here twice on my lunch break and had the same exact experience. I tried today to give it a second chance, and I fully regret that decision. Not only did it take forever for the food to be prepared half of our tables food came out wrong, on someone else's plate, AND half of us didn't get half of what we ordered. I will NEVER return to this establishment. Especially for lunch. It's a shame considering how much I love sushi. read more

Loved the very affordable sushi until today. I am a frequent customer for lunch. Today I went to the bathroom and saw a very large (dying) cockroach on the floor. Also, noted a strong chemical smell so I have a strong feeling that the restaurant had recently been fumigated. read more

This place has a great price for all you can eat but you better have a lot of time... it took 40 minutes for me to get 3 rolls based on their 1 roll at a time rule. I eat pretty quickly so i would eat my roll in 3 minutes and wait another 10 to get my next roll. The orchard roll was really good but the other two i had were quite blah and plain. For the price i would come back if i has the time but if you are on a schedule for lunch don't expect to be full when you leave. read more

Terrible service. Visited on 7/21, young lady spent more time sweeping and resetting tables than paying attention to us. Food was extremely slow coming out of the kitchen even though the restaurant was not busy, so slow that another couple was seated and left without being served. I ordered miso soup, she said it back, served clear soup anyway. Ordered a salmon roll and Philadelphia roll, never saw the Philly. Later, my brother ordered steak hibachi and a Philly, never saw either. Menu says 4 pieces of calamari, served 3. Drinks sat empty. No acknowledgement of any of these mistakes, no offer to make anything right. Still charged to take a few extra pieces home, which is fine normally, but insult to injury under the circumstances. read more

I had avoided this place because I thought it was a buffet- it is not. You pay a flat rate and the servers bring you items that you order from the menu. I think the menu is pretty extensive and overall the food is decent. I had 2 rolls, the Norfolk and the Orchard roll and both were good. They also have hibachi, which was decent the steak was cooked well. It's a good place to get a lot for your money and the food is good. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi in Richmond but it's definitely worth a visit. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very polite and helpful. read more

The sushi here is probably pretty good from the small sample that I've tried, but I really don't know... It is excruciatingly slow and I've had very little and need to leave. I have been here almost a half hour and have been brought one tuna roll consisting of six pieces... now waiting for the next order. Clearly, this is far too long and I will not be able to wait around to try another, despite it's supposedly being all you can eat. There is a very small salad bar, with some relatively good options, but not much to choose from at all. The restaurant is not crowded, at all, and, as I continue to wait, I feel like I have been deceived and ripped off. Lesson learned. read more

As an out of town visitor, I had such a great experience at Sushi King on Hull Street that when I returned for a girls weekend I insisted going to Sushi King. We ended up at the nearest location on Midlothian Turnpike. My local friend and I assumed it would be just like the Hull Street location but it was nothing in comparison and was such a HUGE disappointment. The sushi and pickled ginger tasted old, the avacado wasn't fresh, even the rice (who could mess up rice) tasted bad. The only thing that was good was the dumplings and tempura that they had to fry in the back. In other words you are taking a risk eating raw seafood here. Totally would not go to this location again unless they upgrade their standards which in my opinion borderlines some health concern. Because of their no waste food policy or pay for your leftovers we tried our best to eat what we ordered. As soon as we paid our bill we got far away from this place!! Sushi lovers beware. read more
