I love the concept of Sushi King as a whole! I'm from Northern Virginia, and moving to Richmond was a blessing for this AYCE sushi! We frequent them a lot, but this was only my second time at this location. Service was great and fast. We came for lunch ($11.99 for AYCE can't be beat), so it wasn't too busy. My favorites on the lunch menu are the Sea Angel and Volcano rolls! This location doesn't charge extra for sashimi which is great, but I do think the quality of the sushi at other locations is better. The seaweed was chewier and tougher than usual, and my pieces kept falling apart before even making it to my soy sauce. Don't get me wrong - we had a great experience, and if you're a sashimi fan definitely come here, but quality of the actual rolls is better at the other locations. read more

I've hit all the SK's in RVA, this is the newest. I swear by the one on Hull St - seems more fresh to me. All you can eat, made to order, Sashimi/Sushi Rolls, including appetizers and salad bar?! I love deals, the food here is consistent and service is reliable. Friends and I gorge ourselves with much delight for cheap. $20, you get all of the above - whereas you'd pay this for a few rolls elsewhere. And if you are a fan of Masago or Tobiko (caviar), SK has both on the menu. My favorite is the red surf clam and tuna Sashimi. I tend to stay away from the rolls which fill you up quicker, same goes for the hibachi style dishes (not good by the way). Stick to the Sashimi section and order with confidence! The owner is killing it, with multiple locations across the state. Consistency and value is key here. read more

Because it is clean, conveniently located, the options are phenomenal, the service is attentive but unobtrusive, and they actually put an amazing custom touch of lighted ice sculpture on one of our ridiculously large platters of several rolls we ordered at once (it was our second round ordering, the server was incredulous, but we only left a few pieces of sushi on our plate). So, while the quality may seem dubious to some, my wife and I have eaten a lot of sushi in our lives in a lot of cities, and this is a good quality product with an awesome selection and at a very good price! So, I'm going to throw caution to the wind and risk being forever discredited as a food reviewer by giving this all you can eat, pay the tally, sushi dive a 5 star review! ------------------------------------------ Incidentally, since we're all here and chatting, the WORST sushi I've ever had was in ... Tokoyo in a walk in dive where customers perch on bolted down round bar stools in front of a conveyor belt with tiny plates of ever traveling sushi passing out from a hole in the wall from ... the kitchen? ... and around the perimeter of the counter, beneath countless nostrils and open mouths before disappearing back into the ... kitchen?? ... through another hole in the wall and returning (like zombie sushi) a couple minutes later to meander under the gauntlet of exhalations all over again. Yep. Ugh. And it was warm and the rice somewhat mushy. Ack! making myself gag. I figure the stools were bolted down so that when the regulars were finally overcome by their several aggressive infections they would just slump to the floor without the clamor of the steel chair banging on the tile floor. Sushi King is light years beyond the quality in that "authentic" Tokyo sushi diner, but you're welcome to drop 2 grand on a 15 hour flight to go try it yourself. This was the worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant, we got there at 8:45 and placed our orders and it took about 30 minutes for our food to come out. As soon as our first round came out we placed our second order and that didn't come until 9:40.... 10 minutes later the manager says we have 10 minutes to finish and get out due to the fact they had to lock the doors, so I had asked if we could just take it to go. Obviously that was a problem and she was so beyond rude and said I had to pay $20 for take out or $20 for the "wasted sushi" I didn't even have time to eat. We tried to argue it given we had 10 minutes time to eat all of food we had on our plates. So I had to pay $80 for something that should have only costed $50. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. Not only that but the Sushi was bad, it had us all throwing up and severe stomach cramping. Found this little gem while staying at the Hyatt next door. All you can eat sushi and hibachi? Yes please. Everything was super tasty and fresh from the salad bar, the rolls hit the spot, and bc we are Americans (and we overeat) we ordered hibachi steak and shrimp after. This is definitely the epitome of "you get what you pay for". The sushi isn't even bad it's just not very good and I wouldn't compare it to other sushi places. I've had a few bad experiences at Sushi King mostly with the quality of their food and most recently with a little piece of metal in my sushi roll. Good, but not great. The food was tasty and I'd go again, but as you'd expect at an 'all you can eat' sushi place the amount of fish in each roll was less than normal sushi rolls. My main waiter was nice and attentive but not confident in his English. The salad bar is good for me since it has sashimi salad such as tuna & salmon plus soy beans. The sushi selection is for beginners its basics...just rolls not much sashimi. In addition there is no way you will make a tilapia fillet sashi if it's not fresh catch from water and mix it together with salmon roll. A place that make sushi roll with imitation crab meat is a big NOGO!!! Again this is my opinion you can give a try, the price is good $16.99 for AYE sushi its fair enough. If you think about nowadays a sashimi and rolls will cost $8-$9 a piece. The place is clean. The rice they use is not real sushi rice, it break easily and hard texture. This may be my favorite location of this chain. It's the perfect size and the staff are very attentive and quick to get refills and take new orders. They have efficient service in both the sushi counter and the hibachi kitchen, and their cold bar is always nicely stocked with a good selection of Japanese salads, raw fish, seweed salad, seafood salad, as well as desserts like cheesecake and soft ice cream. read more

We were staying at a hotel nearby and went to dinner on a Friday night. Our party of 6 was seated promptly. We had a variety of dishes including the Uni special some traditional rolls. We had a "house burrito" (think thick stuffed un-cut roll) as well as soba noodle and vegetable for a child. A non sushi fan in our group enjoyed a tofu and vegetable dish which was very well seasoned and cooked well that was Huge. The service was attentive and the owner came over to help answer questions for our group when she over heard us having trouble understanding what the waitress was saying. The bill was pretty low for the amount of food. If I were a local I would hit this place regularly. read more

I lived in Japan for several years and eaten sushi where it was pretty much invented. Sushi King is the place to go if you want quality sushi at an all-you-can-eat place. I'm sure that there are a few people that are not thrilled with their experience. More than likely I think these haters are angry because they have to wait and order the sushi. It is handmade to order. It is not sitting out getting dry or old or having other people touch it or sneeze on it. It also takes about 10 to 15 minutes for your order to come out of the kitchen. Because they are making it by hand for each and every roll that you order. You can order three or four rolls at a time. They really don't mind. I would also mention that Sushi King does have a no waste policy. In other words if you order 7 expensive rolls and then decide that you're only going to eat one of them - they will charge you for the 6 rolls and be happy to pack them up for you. I don't blame them one bit because they are offering a tremendous deal and can't afford for people to be wasteful. That said I have never once and all my visits seen a single person charged for a few pieces of sushi left on their plate or for a roll that they absolutely did not like. I've been to Sushi King plenty of times and had great service but today, the marketing strategy was terrible and an insult to veterans. I went to Sushi King for lunch with my coworkers. I've been there for lunch before and love the lunch special. Not today. On Veterans Day, Sushi King decides to serve "Dinner" charging more. This I didn't have an issue with...except that they increased the price and then stated there was a 25% discount to Veterans. So you increase the price from $11.99 to $16.99 and then state Veterans get a discount? Why not keep the standard pricing and then offer them an actual discount...for their service? Sushi King counts Halloween as a holiday, even though I'm sure no one there gets paid holiday hours, no one is off because it's a holiday, and it is not a nationally recognized holiday, Sushi King WILL charge you dinner price WITHOUT notifying you first. A customer in front of me who brought his office people paid the bill but was upset there was no notice upon walk-in. I was upset too and so I walked out. My favorite sushi place as it's cheap, fast, and delicious! My husband and I come way too often. We love the crab ragoons, queen roll, rainbow roll, and Hollywood roll. They have some crazy combinations but we like to keep things simple and fresh. It's a great spot to come with a large group or just as a couple. I have been to Sushi King before and each time I've been all my friends with me have eaten. This time I went, one of my friends had already eaten before but she wanted to come along to socialize with us. Me and my friend, we'll call her Shay, ordered food for ourselves and I ordered Edamame for the table of 3 to share since my other friend had already eaten. We were being watched and then when my other friend, Leah, was taking her second piece of edamame, the waitress walked up to the table and the FIRST THING THAT CAME OUT HER MOUTH WAS, "are you eating?" to Leah. Leah responded "no" because she was just snacking on the edamame. The waitress then said "but you're eating". Which is very rude and unprofessional. The waitress then stated that in order for my friend Leah to snack on an APPETIZER she must pay $18.99. I understand the All you can eat and how some people may take advantage of that, but it was an appetizer that she wasn't even eating by herself, the table was sharing it. Me and Shay then told the waitress that if Leah wants to eat we will split the dumb cost of $18.99 for one appetizer. Leah thought this was unfair to us so she asked to speak to the manager. I am not going to lie or over exaggerate. Leah tried to explain how she didn't want us to pay $18.99 for a few pieces of edamame and the manager LAUGHED in her face and constantly talked over here. She also said there was no way for her to change the price on the screen but you can purchase edamame for takeout for $4.50???? We have experience in food services so we know how it feels to complain but this was absolutely ridiculous. This is an unsafe place. They have had news worthy health violations regarding sashimi and fish temperatures. I decided to visit and was frankly excited. My sashimi was warm on rice that was a lower temperature than the fish? Warm sashimi? Gross, like a freshly killed worn. The rolls that they served were very nice to look at (colorful and pretty sure) but were soaked in mayonnaise, sweet sauces and other neon looking paint looking substances - it doesn't matter how much you can eat , you will not want to order much from this too Americanized sushi joint - the owners seem to think that Americans enjoy sushi with syrupy sauce - come on! The indigestion , heartburn and slight cramps tell me that something was up - a poor experience and won't be returning. Oh - let me not forget the watery frozen yogurt machine and gross cheese cake that reminded me of a plastic piece of cake that restaurants used to brig out to show you the desserts. And, your sashimi without rice (they save money and don't have to do as much work) has a surcharge - I asked the server - he just looked and me and shrugged his shoulders and said it was their policy.
